Microsoft to provide another way to access Outlook on the web with new Edge extension

Microsoft is planning to launch a new browser extension for Edge that will let users quickly access the Outlook web app via a pop-up menu. Microsoft has updated the Microsoft 365 roadmap to indicate that the Outlook extension is slated for a release in July, as spotted by German website Dr. Windows.

The browser extension will be available to download from the Edge Add-ons store, and it will add an icon on the Microsoft Edge toolbar that will provide direct access to the calendar, emails, and more. “The Microsoft Outlook browser extension brings you the power of mail, calendar, contacts, and tasks using an icon in Microsoft Edge. Quickly access your Outlook work account or your Outlook.com or Hotmail account without switching to another tab or app,” the company explained on the Microsoft 365 roadmap.

The extensions experience isn’t something new, and the Microsoft Office add-on is already enjoying a similar integration in both Edge and Chrome. It lets users quickly view, edit, and create important documents by clicking on the Office icon within their browser.

The new Outlook extension is coming first to the Edge Add-ons store, but the company is also planning to bring it to the Chrome Store. However, there is no word on when the feature will be available for Chrome users.

Leaked screenshots of Windows 11 reveal Windows 10X-inspired Taskbar and Start Menu

The first screenshots of Windows 11 have leaked today ahead of Microsoft’s Windows event on June 24. The images have been published on the Chinese website Baidu, and Windows Central and The Verge have since confirmed their authenticity.

One of the two images reveals a Windows 10X-inspired Taskbar design with centered icons, as well as a floating Start Menu with Pinned apps but no Live Tiles. The animated Tiles have been around since Windows 8 released almost 10 years ago, but it looks like Microsoft is ready for a fresh start with Windows 11

The second image shows the “About” section of the Settings app revealing that what we’re seeing in the Windows 11 Pro build 21996.1. which according to Windows Central Zac Bowden is “a near-final build of the OS.”

These two leaked images don’t reveal much about the OS, but the similarities with Windows 10X are pretty obvious. Microsoft recently announced that it had shelved the new OS to focus its efforts on Windows 10, though the company also said that “the technology of Windows 10X could be useful in more ways and serve more customers than we originally imagined.”

Microsoft has been having fun teasing a Windows 11 reveal with the June 24 event picture and an 11 minutes video of Windows Startup sounds, but it’s unfortunate that the company hasn’t been able to prevent all leaks ahead of the event next week. We’ll see if more information about Windows 11 will be revealed in the coming days, but in the meantime, we still have a lot of unanswered questions about this new version of Windows.

Update 10:40 AM PT:  It looks as though the whole build has leaked, not just these screenshots, and many early enthusiasts have already been sharing more screenshots of Windows 11. We’ll have more on this leaked Windows 11 build very soon!

Forza Horizon 5 is targeting 4K 30 FPS on Xbox Series X with an optional 60 FPS Performance mode

Forza Horizon 5 developer Playground Games revealed this week that its upcoming open-world racing game will target 4K at 30 FPS on the Xbox Series X, similar to what Asobo Studios announced for the Xbox version of Microsoft Flight Simulator. However, unlike Flight Simulator, Forza Horizon 5 will offer an optional 60 FPS Performance mode on both the Series X and the Series S, which is essential for fast-paced racing games.

There was some confusion about the official Forza Horizon 5 post on the official Forza Motorsport website, which indicated that the game would be “available in 4K 30 FPS on the Xbox Series X (1080p 30 FPS on Xbox Series S) with an optional 60 FPS performance mode. Mike Brown, Creative Director of Forza Horizon 5 at Playground Games has since confirmed on Twitter that “Performance mode gets you 4k60 on Series X and 1080p60 on Series S.”

If Playground Games deserves credit for releasing a next-gen upgrade for Forza Horizon 4 ahead of the release of Microsoft’s Xbox Series X and Series S consoles back in November, Forza Horizon 5 should offer a whole new level of photorealism on Series X|S consoles. “Our Mexican HDR sky captures illuminate the world to the point that you will feel as if you are right there. And thanks to Xbox Series X|S, ray tracing is utilized in Forzavista to make the cars look even more true to real life,” Mike Brown wrote on Xbox Wire.

Forza Horizon 5 was one of the main highlights of Microsoft’s Xbox and Bethesda Games showcase, and the game will be released on November 9 on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and Windows. We don’t have details yet about the performance on Xbox One consoles, but it will be interesting if the Xbox One X will also offer a 60 FPS Performance mode as this was the case with Forza Horizon 4.

Three ways that Microsoft apps and services made moving from Windows 10 to an iPad Pro easy

Switching between devices and different ecosystems like iPad and Surface can be hard. You risk losing your files, passwords, and a lot more. But since Microsoft is a multi-platform company — with apps across Windows, Android, and iOS — they actually make things easy for you.

As part of my journey to move to an iPad Pro and using it as my main device for a week for an incoming review, I ended up heavily depending on Microsoft apps. Here’s a look at three ways that Microsoft made switching across Windows 10 to iPad OS easy.

Microsoft Edge & Authenticator

Microsoft Edge iPad with Authenticator

I start first with one of the more obvious things. As I’ve covered before, Microsoft Authenticator is a great tool to use for password management as it can sync up your passwords across your devices. Just so happens that in moving from Windows 10 and Edge to Safari on iPad OS as my main browser, the Authenticator app for iPad carried everything I needed with me. I even was able to use it in place of iCloud Keychain for my password management, and bring all of my saved passwords from Windows 10 across my iPad, anywhere I need it.

Then there’s the Edge side of the story. Edge is my main browser on Windows, and since it is available on iPad, I’m able to use the app there, too. All my bookmarks, passwords, and browsing history from Windows 10 landed right on my iPad. Everything syncs with a Microsoft account, and there’s no need to worry!

Now, Edge on an iPad does feel a bit dated and doesn’t play as nice with desktop websites as Safari does, but it’s great to have it as an alternate to Apple’s own browser. You even can set it as the default. Microsoft is working to improve Edge on iOS and merge the code base with the desktop version, so there’s hope ahead for this browser replacing Safari for me.

Microsoft OneDrive

Microsoft-OneDrive-iPadOS

Next up are the photos, documents, and files aspect of switching between devices. Usually, any important file I save on my PC also gets saved in my OneDrive, so I can take it anywhere I go. Thanks to the power of the cloud, and the free 1TB of storage included with Microsoft 365, I have all the important files I need right on my iPad. I can even make them available offline, too.

And Microsoft’s OneDrive does offer integration in the iPad’s Files app. That’s just like how it works in File Explorer in Windows 10. No need to open the dedicated app, just visit the Files app on an iPad, click to “locations” and find OneDrive. Apple and Microsoft make it easy to take your files anywhere.

One note on OneDrive, though. Since a Microsoft 365 subscription and access to Word/Excel/PowerPoint offers bonus storage in OneDrive, it’s more of a value compared to Apple’s own iCloud. You can get away with using the free 5GB tier of iCloud on an iPad if you want, but you will hit some limits if you don’t pay.

Even with the mid-range $20 a month 200GB iCloud storage included in “Apple One” bundle pricing, Microsoft 365 Family offers more for the low price of $9 per month and works great on an iPad. Of course, you can just pay $3 or $10 a month for 200GB or 2TB of storage, but that’s just iCloud storage, and not including any additional Microsoft 365 features, or access to Apple’s premium apps.

All the Microsoft 365 apps

Last on my list are the other Microsoft 365 apps. Since I am a writer, I highly depend on Teams, Planner, and the rest of the Microsoft 365 apps for my work. All of these apps are available on iPad, but just the mobile versions. Of course, mobile apps have their limits, and it takes some getting used to after being on Windows, but it’s great that Microsoft has mobile counterparts of the desktop apps. With Microsoft 365, there isn’t anything that’s not possible for me on my iPad that I can’t do on Windows. Your mileage might vary, depending on your workflow but for me, it has worked well so far.

Part of an experiment

I’ve explained how Microsoft has helped me move to an iPad as my main laptop, but this is all part of an experiment of my own. Microsoft loves to compare the Surface Pro to the iPad Pro, and tech reviewers alike, so I am giving it my shot. Can an iPad really replace a Surface or Windows PC like Apple has claimed? So far it’s been an interesting journey for me, and I look forward to fully reviewing this iPad Pro to answer that question. Stay tuned to OnMSFT for more!

Microsoft Teams is getting RTMP support for streaming large meetings on other platforms

Microsoft Teams is will soon receive a new update that will allow users to live-stream large meetings on other platforms through RTMP. The news comes from a recent update to the Microsoft 365 roadmap, which suggests that RTMP streaming support is coming to Teams in July 2021.

For those unfamiliar, the Real-Time Messaging Protocol (RTMP) is a TCP-based protocol for audio, video, and data streaming over the internet. Live streaming option has been available on Zoom and Webex for a while now, and it looks like the Redmond gaint is finally planning to bring it to the Teams collaboration service.

Once enabled, this feature will let hosts leverage RTMP to broadcast their meetings to a wider audience on social media platforms such as YouTube and Twitch. “Enables support for your users to stream their Teams meetings to large audiences through RTMP, including endpoints outside your organization,” the company explained on the Microsoft 365 roadmap.

The addition of RTMP streaming support should help to make large meetings and webinars more engaging than ever before. The Microsoft 365 roadmap listing indicates that this capability will be added to meetings, but there is no word on whether it will be available for Live Events as well. The company is also adding an automatic recording option for Teams meetings. This update is only coming towards the end of this year, though.

New design for Xbox Series X video game cases spotted online

In a bit of unexpected Xbox news, a new design aesthetic for Xbox video game cases has begun to pop up online on several storefronts for upcoming titles.

One of the first people to spot the change was Twitter user, XenokoYT, who tweeted the new design of the Microsoft Flight Simulator cover. As can be seen in the comparison below, the new design (left) removes the green Xbox bar along the top to allow for more space for the artwork. It also swaps out the 4K and HDR logos for Smart Delivery which is an interesting choice. Maybe 4K is just assumed to be supported in modern video games at this point?

Microsoft Flight Simulator

While this new design for Microsoft Flight Simulator is up on some online stores, many others are still carrying the older look. Halo Infinite and Forza Horizon 5 are also sporting the new aesthetic. Curiously, the BestBuy listing for Halo Infinite is using both the old and new designs.

If you are an Amazon Prime member, you will get Luna on June 21

You will most likely want to know that, after quite a few months in early access, Amazon’s own game streaming service, Luna, will become available for all Prime members, starting with June 21.

For a limited time, Prime members can access games on Amazon Luna without requesting an invite for early access. Start a Luna+ 7-day free trial to play action, adventure, platformer, indie, shooter, RPG, racing, and classic games – and we’re always adding more.

You can get priority access to Luna and play free for 7 days

As you might know, the company announced Luna back in September 2020, afterwards making it available by invite-only, in early access, in October.

One of the big advantages for users is the overall availability of this service, which they can use on Windows, Mac, Fire TV, iPhone, iPad, as well as Android.

For the moment, the Luna service is streaming games at 1080p/60 fps, but Amazon stated that 4K support will be coming soon for some select titles.

How can I get Amazon Luna?

If you’re not a Prime member and you can’t benefit from the offer above, you have to go to Amazon’s Luna official page and request early access or download the Luna app on supported Fire TV devices.

However, there are more conditions for this. You need a U.S. Amazon account except for teen/child and business accounts that are not supported yet. Hawaii, Alaska, and other U.S. territories are also excluded.

The price for this service is $5.99 per month for the moment, although it’s expected that the cost will go up.

However, you can’t miss this great offer from Amazon so you should hit the link below to get yourself an Amazon Prime account and get access to Amazon Luna.

How can I play on Amazon Luna?

First of all, you will need a high-speed Internet connection because it’s an online service.

Then, you can use any compatible game controller that includes the Xbox One controller, the DualShock 4 controller, the Razer Kishi Mobile Game Controller, or the mouse and keyboard.

As we mentioned before, those include Windows PC, Mac, Fire TV, iPhone, iPad, or some Android phones.

Some more good news is that you can also buy the dedicated Amazon Luna controller, which you can now purchase for a nice discount.

If you’re going to play on a PC, here’s a selection of the best backlit keyboards that will leave your enemies behind.

What are the best games on Amazon Luna?

There is no secret that the best reasons for gamers to join a service are the featured games, and Amazon Luna has a few aces down its sleeve.

For instance, we need to mention Control, released by Remedy Entertainment, a supernatural shooter with conspiracy theory flavor.

Another great title is Metro Exodus, developed by 4A Games which is the third episode in the Metro saga. It’s a first-person survival horror shooter based in post-apocalyptic scenery.

Other great tiles include Resident Evil 7, Far Cry 5, A Plague Tale: Innocence, WatchDog: Legion, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, Immortal Fenyx Rising, The Division 2 and many, many more great titles.

It seems that Amazon has a great shot to hit the market and the hearts of the gamers pretty quick with the new announcement.

As you can see, you need an Amazon Prime account to reach Luna but Prime is only available in only 20 countries.

Google’s Workplace is now free and you can use it today

Its time for some more good news, directed to all the Google users out there. The company has decided to remove payment for one its most used services.

More exactly, Google has announced that its making taxed Workspace features also available to non-paying Google users, thus creating a single, integrated experience for everyone.

Google offers more features for no charge

Until recently, Google Workspace, which was previously known as G Suite, worked like Microsoft’s Office 365.

There were both free and paid versions of core services such as Gmail, Docs, and Sheets, as well as the paid versions which gave users a bit more functionality, besides management capabilities.

According to the company, with this change, the Workspace features which cost money will become available to non-paying customers, leading to the creation of a simpler codebase for Google to offer customers more value.

By bringing Google Workspace to everyone, we’re making it easy for people to stay connected, get organized and achieve more together, whether it’s advancing a cause, planning your family reunion, assigning next steps for the PTA, or discussing this month’s book club pick.

Google creates Workspace Individual, a new paid service

While the services that we mentioned above are becoming free of charge, Google is introducing a brand new paid project, called Workspace Individual.

This initiative is mainly aimed at entrepreneurs, as well as other individuals that work alone, or as a part of small businesses.

With this new Google Workspace subscription offering, individual small business owners can get more done, show up more professionally and better serve their customers. Building on the integrated Google Workspace experience now available to everyone, the solution provides premium capabilities, including smart booking services, professional video meetings, personalized email marketing and much more on the way

Through this, the company provides premium features, such as booking services, professional video meetings, and personalized email marketing.

Google officials state that even more features are planned for the future, so users have yet more reasons to rejoice.

Workspace Individual will be coming soon to Australia, Brazil, Canada, Japan, Mexico, and the United States.

Although no pricing information has been made public yet, users can still sign-up in order to gain more information.

How to choose the right gaming laptop

Gaming laptops are great if you’re either traveling or joining LAN parties with your friends without carrying a huge desktop.

However, they have different configurations, weights, functions, displays, and you should plan ahead, according to your needs so, here’s how you select the best for you.

Think about what games do you want to play

It’s crucial to know what genre of games you want to play because the configuration will be highly different from one to another.

If you want to play fast-paced, action games like shooters or DOTA-type titles, it’s very important to choose a laptop with a great screen, high frequency, and low response time.

You also want at least 16 GB of RAM and an SSD for fast access. Of course, the most important here is the graphics card and you should have at least one with 8 GB of dedicated memory.

If you’re playing strategy, logic games, and even racing, you won’t need more than 8 GB of RAM and a decent graphics card.

Ensure the best connections

Whatever game you play, if you do that online, make sure you have the best possible Internet connection.

The LAN cable is still sacred but the latest Wi-Fi 6 technology can provide great connection speeds and will ensure portability.

How portable you want to be?

And, talking about portability, you should also think about how big the rig is, and how much autonomy will the battery provide.

Let’s face it, with a high-end configuration and discrete graphics, gaming laptops are not the slimmest or the lightest. However, we have some models on the list that have great autonomy.

You need to decide whether you want a heavyweight champion or a light contender that won’t break your back.

We also have a great selection of the best gaming laptop deals on the market right now so you might also give it a look.

Over to you now: Are you planning to buy one of these machines in the near future? Let us know in the comments below.

Just like its predecessor, Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 is a battle RPG game placed in, you guess, the Dragon Ball universe.

You take the role of the Time Patroller, two years after the first part ended. With your fully customized character, you travel through time to stop Past and the Future of the Dragon Ball world.

Furthermore, there are five selectable races, each with its perks and abilities. Additionally, the new main in-game hub, Canton City, is 7 times larger than Toki-Toki city from the first game.

And, adding on to the free-roaming segment, you can fly around if the ability is unlocked. Additionally, there are several modes besides the standard, story mode.

Few of them add on the past game and are a brilliant solution for multiplayer versus/co-op battles.

Indivisible

Indivisible

Indivisible is an action RPG known for its unique real-time combat mechanics and hand-drawn art animation.

The story revolves around Ajna, a rebel teenager who went on a quest to avenge her father’s death and the destruction of her village.

Many characters are based on South Asian folklore and its Metroidvania-inspired platforming completes this idea.

The breathtaking landscapes combine 2D sprites with 3D backgrounds, immersing the player into a fantastical world, especially through the audio sensory experience offered by the official soundtrack.

Indivisible’s combat mechanics focus on juggling and combos. One thing that makes the game stand out is the fact that it has real-time combat instead of turn-based.

Moreover, there are in-game tutorials about the controls, including how to use Iddhi bars.

You can download Indivisible on any type of device that supports Windows 7/10. The minimum system requirements include a 64-bit processor, 6 GB RAM, and a GeForce GTX 560 card for graphics.

Devil May Cry 5

If you are a fan of action hack and slash games, you should be familiar with the Devil May Cry series.

When Capcom created the first part in 2001, on basis of Dante Alighieri’s Divine Comedy, no one expected such a revolutionary game.

15 years and 4 installments later, Devil May Cry is the household name in the gaming industry.

The fifth part, the one we are presenting in this list, is actually the reboot of the first part. So a great start for getting into the storyline.

You take the role of the Dante, a half-demon-half-angel. He is on his road of vengeance, trying to kill Mundus, the demon who killed his mother.

Dante is accompanied by his twin brother Vergil. As in all past games, you can use your trusty sword, dual pistols and many other weapons that can be upgraded.

In addition, there are two special abilities: Angel and Devil mode. These two have special impact in combat. The game scenery is modern Limbo city.

Devil May Cry 5 is great title pumped with action and the great story. Highly recommended.

Tales of Zestiria

Tales of Zestiria windows pc

A lot of amazing RPGs get out of Japanese studios and Tales of Zestiria is far back behind, for example, the Final Fantasy series.

This colorful action RPG brings the whole repertoire: valid battle system, anime-like graphical scenery, and a quite good story.

You take the role of Sorey, carrier of the Seraphim power, on the fight against Helion, evil creatures that possess the land of Glenwood.

Sorey is accompanied by various characters throughout the game, but his best friend, Mikleo, is there from the beginning.

The battle system is true to the series, with a few innovations added. Battles are now played in the same free-roam scenery, and the world is larger than in the past games.

Also, two characters can fuse into a single entity and produce special attacks. The story is long enough to take the hefty chunk of your time, so you will enjoy this game for long.

⇒ Get Tales of Zestiria from Kinguin

You can also find Tales of Zestiria available on G2A.

Attack on Titan

Attack on Titan is a hack & slash game that utilizes button mashing gameplay and innovative movement with special gear.

It closely follows the storyline from the original manga series. Players can select from up to 10 characters with different pros and cons, and the main goal is, well, slaying humanoid giants.

Did I mention that Titans favorite food are humans? So, we have a war till extinction and few heroes that are going to stay between fragile humans and hungry Titans.

Fighting is fast-paced and players can easily get to know it. But, as the game progresses, some tactical approach is needed against tougher opponents.

Interesting concept that is worth a while. And a good way to get to know a story of the manga.

⇒ Get Attack on Titan / A.O.T. Wings of Freedom Steam from G2A

If you’re searching for a good price deal for Attack on Titan / A.O.T. Wings of Freedom Steam, you should know that you can also find it available on Kinguin.

These were the games we enlisted for you. Even if you are not a big admirer of anime culture, you may find them interesting and exciting.

Microsoft’s latest KB5004327 to fix Xbox Game pass errors

You should know that Microsoft has released an off-schedule update for Windows 10, that addresses errors 0x80073D26 and 0x8007139F, for versions 20H1, 20H2, and 21H1 of the OS.

This is more than good news for many, as the issues caused by these errors are not something that users take lightly.

Improved solution for the Xbox Game Pass errors on PC

Microsoft designed KB5004327 for the systems that have experienced problems installing or opening Xbox Games Pass games.

Users that are affected by the issue are automatically redirected to the Microsoft Store page for Gaming Services when these errors occur.

More exactly, this particular update replaces the previous, not so efficient workaround to the problem, previously made public by Microsoft..

As some of you may remember, the initial so-called involved using a PowerShell script to fix gaming services and wasn’t something that many users felt comfortable doing.

Where do I download KB5004327?

Via the Windows Message Center, Microsoft wanted to let users know that it identified an issue that affects a small number of devices with Windows 10, version 20H1, Windows 10, version 20H2, and Windows 10, version 21H1.

Thus, they have expedited a resolution which is now available as an out-of-band update.

This update address an issue in which attempting to install or open an Xbox Game Pass game on your Windows 10 device, you might be redirected to the Microsoft Store page for Gaming Services. For more information on the issue, see KB5004327: Error 0x80073D26 or 0x8007139F occurs when you install or start Gaming Services on a Windows 10 device. You do not need to install this update if you are not experiencing this issue.

If you are among the users that suffered these errors, you can apply this optional cumulative update by using the  Windows Update tool in the Settings menu, or downloading it from the Microsoft Update Catalog.

Keep in mind that, if you choose to download it via Windows Update, you’ll need to check for optional updates.

Diablo II Resurrected comes out on consoles & PC in 4k 60 FPS

If you are a Blizzard fan, you surely remember that, in February, the company confirmed the fact that it will be remastering one of the most prolific games of all time.

They were of course talking about the legendary Diablo II, along with the Lord of Destruction expansion.

Diablo II Resurrected is coming in September

This is extremely good news because the fans of the game expressed their desire to return to Diablo II after the third title of the series did not live up to the expectations.

In a rather unexpected turn of events and decorum, Blizzard chose the Xbox & Bethesda E3 showcase to announce the official release date trailer for all the fans worldwide.

Diablo II Resurrected is coming not only for PCs, but for Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Playstation 4 & 5, as well as Nintendo Switch, on September 23.

With graphic performance reaching 4K 60FPS on console, as well as PC, this game remaster will also feature cross-progression support.

Some more good news to get excited about is that Diablo II Resurrected will have up to 8-player co-op mode on all platforms, except Nintendo Switch, updated Battle.net support, and much more.

Fans are also waiting for Diablo IV

As we said above, Diablo III did not really rise to meet player expectations. This was disconcerting for the wide majority, as they’ve waited for a new Diablo game for more than a decade.

The game itself was nicely done, with new and interesting elements being added to it but, overall, shorter and not as challenging as Diablo II.

Now that Blizzard has touted Diablo IV and admitted that it will return to Diablo II standards, from many points of view, fans are extra hyped.

From the gameplay we could all witness at the BlizzCon event, indeed Diablo IV will be more similar to Diablo II, being much darker and real, and not as cartoony as III was.

But there is no release date for Diablo IV and, during the last BlizzCon, one of the game developers told fans that the title is not coming soon, even by Blizzard standards.

And we all know what that means, don’t we? Probably, Diablo IV will be ready sometime in 2024, hopefully.

Are you excited about the release of Diablo II Resurrected? Tell us all about it in the comments section below.

Web versions of OneDrive and Microsoft Lists are becoming installable PWAs

Microsoft is planning to turn its OneDrive cloud storage service into Progressive Web Apps (PWA). Indeed, the company has recently announced via Microsoft 365 Admin center message that OneDrive for Business will be available as a progressive web app on Windows and macOS through web browsers in July 2021.

This release will allow any OneDrive for Business user to install the web app by simply hitting the plus icon available at the right of the address bar. “Users in your organization will be able to install OneDrive Progressive Web App (PWA) on their computers from Microsoft Edge, Google Chrome, Firefox or other browser that supports Progressive Web Apps (with the exception of Safari). They will be able to pin and launch the app from their computer’s home screen or task bar, and perform the same actions that they are used to when working in the web version of OneDrive,” the company explained.

In addition to OneDrive for Business, the new Microsoft Lists app is also getting a similar treatment next month. This update will allow users to install Microsoft Lists as a desktop app from Microsoft Edge, Google Chrome, or other Chromium-based browsers that natively support PWAs. According to the Microsoft 365 roadmap, the new PWA-based Lists app will begin rolling out to Targeted release customers in early July.

For those unfamiliar, PWAs are essentially websites, but these apps come with improved caching support, background functionality, and notification features to make them appear like traditional applications. The software giant has been looking into PWAs since 2018, and it’s currently testing new web-based Microsoft Teams and “One Outlook” apps.

Overall, the new PWA experience should make it easier for users to manage or upload files and maintain lists on their computers. Do you see yourself using the new OneDrive for Business and Microsoft Lists PWAs, or do you prefer to access these apps within your browser? Share your thoughts in the comments below.

Microsoft Flight Simulator on Xbox Series X|S will run at 30FPS, new Xbox peripherals to be revealed soon

Microsoft yesterday during its Xbox and Bethesda Games showcase that Microsoft Flight Simulator will be released on Xbox Series X|S on July 27. The game will launch on Xbox Game Pass for Console on day one and also support Xbox Play Anywhere, meaning that PC gamers who purchased it on the Microsoft Store last year will get the Xbox Series X|S version for free.

In a detailed FAQ published yesterday, developer Asobo Studios explained that Xbox players will experience the same level of depth and complexity that PC players have been enjoying since last year. The console version will be optimized for the Xbox Wireless controller, but it will also support keyboard & mouse input and third-party peripherals such as the Thrustmaster T.Flight Hotas One, Thrustmaster T.Flight Rudder, and HORI HOTAS Flight Stick for Xbox One. “New, Xbox-compatible peripherals will be announced soon,” the team said.

On Twitter, the official Microsoft Flight Simulator account shared a bit more details about the Xbox Series X|S version of the game. Answering a specific question about the game’s performance on next-gen Xbox consoles, the team confirmed that Microsoft Flight Simulator will have a base frame rate of 30FPS, though TVs and monitors that support Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) will be able to go above 30FPS.

The 30FPS target will likely be disappointing for Xbox gamers, though Microsoft Flight Simulator is a pretty demanding game that can struggle to run decently on many recent PCs. It’s probably why Asobo Studios also chose not to release Microsoft Flight Simulator on Xbox One consoles, as the experience would likely have been compromised by the aging hardware.

Are you still looking forward to play Microsoft Flight Simulator on your Xbox Series X or Series S console despite the 30FPS target? Sound off in the comments below.

Pulseway: A top Remote Monitoring & Management tool [Review]

There are plenty of Managed Service Providers (MSPs)  in the world, most of which use Remote Monitoring and Management software (RMM).

The only problem is that you can’t just use any crummy old tool, especially since the Internet is full of them, and that is why we will be looking over one that we find to be extremely promising called Pulseway.

This entire article will act as a review of Pulseway, and we will be looking over its features, what it can do, who it can be of use to, and whether it is worth getting or not.

What is Pulseway?

Pulseway is a staple RMM platform that features advanced automation, an advanced patching engine, unlimited remote control, network discovery, and reporting, providing users with Backup, Endpoint Protection, and PSA tools for managing companies.

Back when it first appeared, Pulseway was designed to be used by I.T. departments and busy system administrators but quickly gained popularity among Managed Service Providers (MSPs) soon after launch.

It is rated as one of the best tools that one could use for Managed Service Providers (MSPs), IT departments, IT consultants, and System Administrators.

Built as a mobile-first, cloud-first IT Monitoring, and Management software, Pulseway makes it possible to take care of all your IT needs from any device closest to you, regardless of your location, which is especially useful given the rise of remote work.

What are Pulseway’s features?

In a nutshell, Pulseway is very useful for anyone that needs remote management and monitoring tools to evaluate the performance of all their systems, machines, and users, especially given how it can run on all servers and systems in any given data center.

Monitor everything

Pulseway’s dashboard allows you to keep an eye on everything that is happening at any given moment within your system, and this includes workstations, servers, network devices, APIs, and clouds.

The data received during our tests was in real-time, and the accessible UI of the client makes it easy to understand, although basic knowledge of RMM tools is needed.

Using the tool was quite pleasant since everything was neatly arranged where you would expect them to be, and as long as you knew what you needed to do, it was easy to find the tools that could help you.

Given the service’s availability on all major platforms, all of these assets can be monitored regardless of where you are physically, just as long as you have an Internet connection.

Improve the way you connect to your clients

Pulseway comes with a client portal that allows you to automate your end -user support easily. This means that you can create automated responses to common problems that guide the end user to a quick fix or solution.

This, in turn, reduces your support team’s workload and improves the time wasted in between problem reports and troubleshooting, thus improving efficiency.

This feature can also be automated to a certain degree via scripts and tasks when needed.

Lastly, you can customize the portal to highlight your company to all end users, making it more accessible and welcoming based on your target demographic.

Pulseway lets you know exactly what you need to know

No matter how great an interface looks, going back and forth between tabs to see how things are evolving can be tiresome, and that’s where Pulseway’s advanced notification features come in handy.

They are detailed compared to other asset management tools, and you can select services and scheduled tasks to manage.

These include:

  • Performance counters
  • File-browsing features
  • Maintenance windows
  • Certificates
  • Network connectivity, and more…

You have an entire Reporting tab where you can see everything that has been incurred within your system within a given period, so even if you’re not there to see the data live, you will still be able to see it later.

Access and control anything remotely

As stated previously, despite being a RMM software, Pulseway doesn’t limit itself to controlling just PCs from afar, as it can easily handle servers and cloud-based servers just as well.

This range of control includes:

  • Killing processes
  • Restarting machines and servers
  • Logging out of machines and servers
  • Suspending and locking your machines and servers

Automation makes things easier

You can set up an advanced IT automation workflow that will closely monitor everything and resolve any IT issues automatically right after they happen.

The auto-remediation will be triggered after the error or issue happens, without the need for human interference. This way, the possibility of downtime is reduced to 0.

Having an automated troubleshooting process will greatly benefit the company because it will help avoid unexpected downtime, resulting in more time allocated to the things that matter.

Pulseway also lets you automate tasks and set predefined triggers for scripts to launch and perform tasks by themselves.

To get you started, Pulseway comes with a lot of pre-built samples that you can try, and you can even edit them so that they can work precisely to your own needs.

These automated tasks vary in complexity from simple steps to more complex workflows that can greatly save your administrator a lot of time.

Support for a wide range of platforms

When users think of servers, 90% of them probably think of Windows Server as an OS, but for the few of you that use something else, know that you will have Pulseway’s full support.

On that note, Pulseway also supports the following server OSes:

  • Windows
  • MacOS
  • Debian
  • Raspbian
  • Unix
  • A wide variety of cloud servers

Use it from anywhere at all times

One of the main selling points of Pulseway are fully functioning native mobile apps available for both iOS and Android, which are just as feature-rich as their desktop counterparts.

This means that you can view your system’s statistics, troubleshoot and respond to any critical alert from anywhere at all times.

Keep your system safe and running

Integration with other third-party services is what keeps Pulseway going, and this includes its ability to keep entire systems and networks safe.

Pulseway can benefit from network security features brought by two major antivirus services:

  • Kaspersky
  • Webroot
Tip icon Tip
While it is reassuring to know that two very reliable antivirus providers are integrated with Pulseway, keep in mind that their licenses need to be purchased separately from Pulsewayu2019s own license.

OS and 3rd party patch management

Pulseway doesn’t just integrate antivirus software for some added protection, it also provides you with everything you need to collaborate with your team better, and to manage a plethora of different useful programs that help your company.

Pulseway Patch Management engine supports both OS patch management as well as continuously growing 3rd party titles library, adding a new title almost every week.

You can also automate the patching process with the help of policies and schedules to keep all software in your network up to date and secure.

The app supports 148 popular titles at the moment, such as Skype, Slack, Adobe, Microsoft Office, and much more.

Don’t worry if you’re using something that is not on the supported list. That’s not a problem. The Pulseway Patch Management software also supports custom third-party apps.

There is nothing that this tool cannot manage and access, enabling anyone using Pulseway Patch Management to ensure the complete security of all systems and applications at all times.

How do I get Pulseway?

Anyone can subscribe to Pulseway, and the transparent pricing plans let you pay for what you need when you need it with flexible billing options.

In fact, not only does Pulseway lack hidden fees, it also comes with tiered discounts, so anyone that wants to commit over long periods of times or owns a large company is greatly rewarded.

As of the writing of this article, Pulseway supports a monthly, yearly, and 3-year subscription plan, with the latter being the most efficient money-wise.

Additionally, they have flexible prices based on multiple criteria:

  • Number of workstations
  • Number of servers
  • Whether or not you want to include third-party patching
  • Number of Webroot Endpoint Protection licenses
  • Number of Webroot DNS Protection licenses

Simply move the slider to accommodate your needs, and the price will adjust automatically to suit your needs.

Once your account is created you can log in to the Pulseway WebApp with your newly created instance domain and Pulseway mobile app.

The mobile apps are available in the Apple App store and Google Play. But if you choose to install an on-premises server, you’ll need Windows Server 2012 or higher along with SQL Server 2008 R2 or higher.

Besides that, you’ll also need one public, static IP address, and a Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) certificate.

Closing thoughts of Pulseway

Pros
Modern and sleek UI
Powerful mobile client
Flexible subscription plans
Real-time data transmissions
Secured with third-party antivirus tools
Integration with other popular collaborative tools
Cons
The Network Monitoring Feature has to be bought separately

Given the nature of this service, we don’t get the chance to review similar tools all that often, but when it comes to comparing Pulseway to the few other services that we’ve reviewed over the years, we have to admit that it is quite impressive.

The monitoring capabilities are very detailed and comprehensive, the task automation makes things a whole lot easier, and the level of your client support will greatly increase.

Add the fact that the UI is incredibly easy to handle and that Pulseway can integrate several third-party services into it to enhance its features, and you made it all the more accessible.

Finally, the fact that it is available on a wide variety of platforms makes system and asset monitoring easy, especially when you’re constantly on the road.

All in all, if you are looking for a tool that can handle remote monitoring and management in a fast and efficient manner, we recommend that you try Pulseway, especially since you can test it out for free for 14 days.

Improve the quality of your streams

Perhaps one of the most beneficial facts of the webcam software is how it affects content creators. If you are a YouTuber, or you stream content on special platforms, these apps are crucial.

They really do make a difference. From changing the resolution to adding text on your screen, or using image filters to make your face more interesting to the viewers; every detail matters.

A webcam software that provides full customization might be what keeps you from going viral or gaining traction on social media.

Stay safe thanks to monitoring

As you might have read above, many of these apps have support for different camera setups. This is great when you have lots of surveillance cameras around your house or office.

You can set up the software on a designated PC, and watch all of the footage live, at once, simultaneously, on the same display.

This will not only make it easier for you to check out the activity on those cameras, but it will also save lots of money you would otherwise waste on multiple displays.

There are multiple factors to camera quality

Obviously, if you want to have the best webcam quality, the software is important, but there are many other factors which we need to take into account when we talk about it.

First and foremost, the most important factor is the capabilities of your devices. If you get the most expensive camera, it will be capable of streaming at high resolutions and framerates.

Secondly, the room light and temperature will also contribute to the image quality. A darker room will heavily decrease the frames and clarity of it.

Lastly, we have camera angles and the software we use to improve certain aspects of the footage. Ensuring that all of the aspects discussed are attended to properly will result in a crisp and clear image.

Since we’re discussing the topic of cameras, is your antivirus blocking messing with your webcam? Here’s a thorough guide about fixing the antivirus if it’s blocking your camera.

In conclusion, share with us your experience in using any of the programs we mentioned in this list of best alternatives for CyberLink YouCam software. Feel free to comment below.

6 Best Touchpads For Windows PC To Buy

Touchpads are currently the most popular devices that people use to navigate their computers.

And most users especially desktop users, are buying external ones because of the additional features they offer, compared to the standard mouse.

How do touchpads work?

Touchpads can either be capacitive or conductive. The latter is what most of us know, which contains multiple layers of material.

The uppermost one being what you touch, while the other layers have rows of electrodes, separated by a thin insulation layer.

At the bottom of the layers is a circuit board to which all these electrodes, which are charged using alternating current, are attached.

So, when you touch the upper layer, it depresses slightly causing contact with the lower layers and creates a current interruption that is registered on the circuit board.

Capacitive touchpads, however, are more common than conductive ones, as the layer you touch holds the charge that creates an array like that of a grid.

This way, it converts the location of your finger’s touch to a specific location on your computer’s screen.

These are more accurate touchpads with multi-touch functions, and they won’t register accidental touches, but if you’re using gloves, it won’t register the touch.

If you’re looking for the best trackpad or touchpad for Windows PC, here are our top picks.

How to choose the perfect touchpad/ trackpad for your PC?

The touchpad was created as an alternative for the PC mouse that could be integrated into the laptop. And for some users, they became the norm, and they want to use it on their PCs.

What do you look for in a touchpad? That’s what we want to discuss in this short guide.

How big do you want the surface to be?

There are small, 2-inch touchpads and they can go over 10 inches in surface. It all depends on whether you want a small, portable form-factor or you want a comfortable, big real-estate.

The bigger the touch surface, the easier will be to perform any gestures on it. You also want a smooth, high-quality material that will ensure further comfort for long, continuous usage.

Buttons and gestures

The modern touchpads come with touch buttons but if you’re used to dedicated physical buttons, you can also choose an older design.

It’s also important to verify if the touchpad can perform the gestures that you’re used to like swipes, pinches and you can even personalize your own.

Those can save you a lot of time and replace a lot of keyboard shortcuts that you always forget.

Construction and durability

It’s very important for the device to be constructed with durable materials that can rezist to daily use wear.

The grip of the touchpad is also extremely important. You don’t want the device to move when you’re performing a gesture or scrolling. In that respect, touchpads with bigger surfaces are better.

Microsoft shows Halo Infinite multiplayer, Forza Horizon 5, and more at its Xbox Games Showcase

Microsoft has just wrapped up its much-anticipated Xbox & Bethesda Games showcase, which was pretty much a big advertisement for the company’s Xbox Game Pass subscription service. 27 of the 30 games Microsoft showed today will be available on Game Pass on day one, with the 3 exceptions being EA’s Battlefield 2042, Ubisoft’s Far Cry 6, and Blizzard’s Diablo II Resurrected.

The company revealed today 10 new games are joining the Xbox Game Pass catalog today including Yakuza: Like a Dragon, Dishonored: Death of the Outsider, and Fallout 3, with 18 additional games to follow before the end of the year. This list includes several high-profile Xbox Game Studios titles including Halo Infinite, Forza Horizon 4, and Age of Empires 4.

Xbox Game Pass Hero Image

Microsoft opened the show with a new trailer for Starfield, Bethesda’s brand new IP that will launch exclusively on Xbox and PC in Fall 2022. Microsoft really needed to show more of its first-party lineup today, and they did so with Halo Infinite’s multiplayer mode, the Xbox Series X|S version of Flight Simulator, the gameplay reveal of Forza Horizon 5, as well as a brand new IP from Arkane Austin named Redfall.

We’ll be focusing on Microsoft’s upcoming first-party games first, then we’ll highlight some of the biggest third-party games coming soon to Xbox Game Pass. Some big names were missing today including CrossfireX, Forza Motorsport, Hellblade 2, Avowed, the Fable and Perfect Dark reboot, and more, but Microsoft is probably right to not tease more of its upcoming games too early.

Starfield, the new IP from Bethesda got to open the Xbox showcase today, but we still don’t know much about the space-themed adventure. The new trailer we’ve seen today revealed that the game is set hundreds of years in our future at the beginning of humanity’s final journey, and you can see in the trailer below a man is a spaceship that’s about to take off.

Starfield could be a great space exploration game and we’re looking forward to learning more about it ahead of its November 11 2022 release on Xbox Series X|S and PC. As expected, the game will be exclusive to the ecosystem and won’t ship on PlayStation consoles.

We had to wait a little bit to get some news about Halo Infinite today, but we got to see today an exciting gameplay trailer for the game’s upcoming multiplayer mode. Moreover, 343 Industries gave us a new look at the game’s campaign featuring a new AI companion that will aid Master Chief throughout his journey.

Microsoft confirmed today that the Halo Infinite Campaign and Multiplayer modes will launch together this holiday season and that the game’s multiplayer mode will support 120FPS on the Xbox Series X. The new grappling hook we’ve seen last year will also be available in Halo Infinite’s multiplayer, and classic modes such as Capture the flag and Big Team Battle will make their comeback. We probably didn’t see enough of Halo Infinite today, but we’ll likely see more of it ahead of its Fall 2021 release.

Flight Simulator will also make its debut on Xbox Series X|S consoles next month on July 27, and the trailer we’ve seen today looks quite impressive. There’s still no word about an Xbox One release, but we wouldn’t be surprised if developer Asobo Studios made the call to only ship the ambitious simulation on Microsoft’s next-gen Xbox consoles.

The Microsoft Flight Simulator team also revealed today an upcoming Top Gun expansion that has been developed in partnership with Paramount Studios. The experience will ship around the release of the new Top Gun: Maverick movie in November, and we should get more details about it soon.

This one was quite unexpected, but the RTS game Age of Empires 4 will launch on PC on October 28. We got an exciting new gameplay trailer today, and there will be 8 diverse civilizations at launch. The game will include 4 campaigns with 35 missions featuring legendary historical figures, 8 player multiplayer modes, user-generated content tools for custom games, and an advanced tutorial system for newcomers.

PlayGround Games also made a big splash today by revealing Forza Horizon 5, coming on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC on November 9. The game is set in Mexico and will be the largest and most diverse open world ever seen in the Forza Horizon series.

Forza Horizon 5 will feature next-gen Horizon live servers, a new volumetric lighting system, ray-tracing support in Forzavista, and many other new graphical features. The Eliminator battle royale mode that made its debut in Forza Horizon 4 will also make its comeback, but Forza Horizon 5 will also introduce a new sandbox mode named Event Lab. You can learn more about the game in the 7 minutes video below.

Psychonauts 2, the sequel to the original Psychonauts game from Double Fine Studios will also be released on August 25. The platform adventure game got its first gameplay trailer today and it looks like a fun sequel to the critically-acclaimed original game released back in 2005. Psychonauts 2 will be available day one on Xbox Game Pass, but it won’t be exclusive to the Xbox ecosystem as it was in development before Microsoft acquired its developer in 2019.

If Microsoft Flight Simulator will get a cross-over event with the upcoming Top Gun movie, the upcoming Season 3 of Sea of Thieves will also bring a fun cross-over with Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean movie series. On June 22, Sea of Thieves: A Pirate’s Life will allow players to experience a new story featuring Captain Jack Sparrow and let them search for the world’s greatest Pirate Treasure.

Fallout 76, Bethesda’s take on a multiplayer version of Fallout is also getting a free Steel Reign expansion on July 7 which will conclude the Brotherhood of Steel storyline. Next year, the free Expeditions: The Pitt update will also take players outside of Appalachia for the first time and bring story driven, repeatable missions.

Grounded, the survival game from Obsidian Entertainment is also getting a Shroom and Doom update on June 30. Players can expect new pets to befriend, the ability to build castles, and try to survive encounters with a new type of deadly spider called the Broodmother. The Shroom and Doom update will also add achievements to the game, which will still remain in the Game Preview program for now.

Obsidian Entertainment also revealed today The Outer Worlds 2, the sequel to its new action RPG title released in 2019. The Outer Worlds 2 will introduce a new solar system and crew, but the game still has no release date for now. However, we’ve learned today that it will be exclusive to Xbox Series X|S consoles and PC.

Arkane Studios, the creator of the Dishonored series also unveiled today a brand new Xbox exclusive IP named Redfall. The game will be an immersive shooter that can be played in co-op, with a cast of four vampire salyers tasked with eliminating a legion of vampires who have blocked out the sun in the quaint island town of Redfall, Massachusetts.

Redfall will launch on Xbox Series X|S and PC in Summer 2022, and it looks like a great new exclusive IP for the Xbox ecosystem. This game was Xbox head Phil Spencer’s “one more thing” to conclude the Xbox Games showcase, and it was a really nice surprise overall

We’ve seen many other third-party games coming day on Xbox Game Pass, including The Ascent (July 29), Hades (August 13), Back 4 Blood (October 12), S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 Heart of Chernobyl (April 2022), as well as A Plague Tale: Requiem (2022). You can get a more complete recap of all the games Microsoft showed during its Xbox & Bethesda Games showcase on Xbox Wire.

Windows Defender vs Avast: In-depth antivirus comparison

Windows 10 comes with its own antivirus software called Windows Defender, but is Windows Defender good enough to protect your PC?

Many are wondering how does Windows Defender compares to other antivirus software, and in this guide, we’re going to compare it with Avast.

Both applications offer similar features, but which one offers better protection and which one is easier to use? Keep reading to find out.

Windows Defender vs Avast, which one is better for your PC?

A quick introduction

Windows Defender: A built-in antivirus software for Windows

Windows Defender is a successor to Microsoft Security Essentials, and the first version of the software was released in 2006 for Windows XP.

The software was a part of Windows Vista and Windows 7, but it only offered anti-spyware features. That changed with Windows 8, and Windows Defender finally became a full-fledged antivirus.

Windows Defender is now the default antivirus software for Windows 10 and Windows 8, and it’s not available for any older versions of Windows.

Avast Antivirus: A security veteran

The first free version of Avast was released way back in 2001, which makes Avast one of the older antivirus applications on the market.

Ever since its release, the software offered a freeware version while keeping certain features available only to premium users.

Nowadays, Avast Antivirus is available on Windows, macOS, Linux, Android, and iOS making it one of the most used antivirus applications on the market.

User interface and ease of use

Windows Defender: A core component of Windows 10

Windows Defender is a core component of Windows Security on Windows 10, and you can access it from the Settings app.

The look is identical to any other section in the Settings app, and all antivirus categories can be easily accessed from the menu in the left pane.

As you can see, Windows Defender has a simple and friendly user interface that is identical to other sections of the Settings app, so you won’t have any issues using it.

Avast Antivirus: Simple to use with a modern interface

The first thing you’ll notice about Avast is its simple and clean interface. All features are neatly organized in the left pane, and you can access all of them in a matter of seconds.

The right side of the application is reserved for notifications, so you can have a quick overview of the latest notifications, detected threats, etc.

On the right side, you can also find a menu that you can use to open settings or check your statistics. Overall, the interface is simple and friendly, and even first-time users should be able to navigate through it.

Security features

Windows Defender: Solid basic protection for any PC

Windows Defender comes with real-time, behavior-based protection that should be able to detect any malware threat on your PC in real-time.

It’s also important to mention that cloud-delivered protection is available for instant detection of new malware threats.

With Windows Defender, you can perform a quick scan, or see the list of files that have been whitelisted by you. You can also modify the scan settings and choose 4 different scan types.

The quick scan will scan only system folders in which malware tends to reside after an infection. However, you can perform a full system scan or select a specific directory or file that you want to scan.

Lastly, there’s the Microsoft Defender Offline scan that will restart your PC and perform the scan without starting Windows. This is especially useful against persistent malware, such as rootkits for example.

Anti-phishing support is available thanks to the Windows Defender SmartScreen feature, and with it, you should be able to detect suspicious websites with ease. Sadly, this feature only works with Microsoft Edge.

On the other hand, SmartScreen can also protect your PC by scanning all downloaded apps and files. You can even use SmartScreen to block apps that aren’t malicious but which have a bad reputation.

Speaking of files, Windows Defender can also protect your files with built-in Ransomware and exploit protection features.

The software also offers Device security features that can protect core parts of your device and prevent malicious code from accessing high-security processes.

To use this feature, you need to have suitable hardware, which usually refers to the TPM 2.0 chip, so keep that in mind.

Lastly, the software also lets you have a quick overview of your device’s health and performance, which might come in handy to some users.

Overall, Windows Defender offers great features, and it should provide solid protection to all Windows 10 users.

Avast Antivirus: A highly customizable security solution

Avast comes with real-time protection and several scan types. You can perform a smart scan, a full system scan, or just scan specific directories and files.

It’s worth mentioning that Avast supports boot-time scanning, so it can scan your PC for threats before Windows starts.

If you want to scan your system outside of Windows, you’ll be pleased to know that you can create a rescue disk on a DVD or USB flash drive and use it to scan your PC if it won’t boot.

The software also has a custom scan feature that lets you create your own scan and schedule it. You can choose how sensitive the scan will be and the type of threats the scan should detect.

With the Core Shields features, you’ll be able to scan any new files and detect any suspicious app activity.

This feature can also detect and block web attacks, suspicious downloads and protect you from malicious email attachments.

It’s worth mentioning that you can configure how each Core Shield works, allowing you to fine-tune your settings for the best protection.

Wi-Fi Inspector is also a welcome feature that will scan your network and show you all devices that are connected to it and warn you about protentional vulnerabilities.

Ransomware Shield is also available, and it allows you to choose between Smart and Strict modes. With the former, only regular and trusted applications will be able to modify your files.

With the Strict Mode, you’ll have to give each application permission to modify your files, which is great if you’re heavily concerned about your security.

The feature will automatically protect common system folders, but you can add any other folder to the list in a matter of seconds.

Lastly, there’s a Software Updater feature that will inform you if your installed applications are out of date and help you update them.

Although Avast Antivirus offers great features and in-depth configuration for scanning and core shields, the Free version misses several features.

The biggest feature that is missing is the Firewall, but you can always rely on Windows Firewall instead. Other missing features include the Sandbox feature, Remote Access Shield, and Real Site.

As for the privacy features, the following are missing in the free version: Data Shredder, Webcam Shield, Sensitive Data Shield, VPN, Password Protection, and AntiTrack Premium.

These features aren’t essential, and even without them, Avast will provide you with top-level security on your PC.

Malware protection

Windows Defender: Great protection for your PC

According to the latest AV Test report, Windows Defender achieved a 100% detection rate for 0-day malware attacks and a 100% detection rate for prevalent malware.

The software also had zero false warnings when visiting websites and just 1 false detection when scanning the system.

In addition, there were no false warnings or blockages while installing or using legitimate software.

Windows Defender achieved maximum rating according to the AV Test report, which means it’s perfectly safe and one of the better antivirus solutions on the market.

Avast Antivirus: All around perfect protection

AV Test report for Avast Antivirus states that the software had a 100% detection rate for both 0-day malware and prevalent malware.

Avast has zero false warnings or blockages when visit websites, and there was just one false detection during a system scan.

Lastly, there were no false warnings or blockages while installing or using legitimate software. This means that Avast earned a maximum rating according to the AV Test, which makes it one of the better antivirus applications.

Overall, both Windows Defender and Avast achieved similar results, with just a single false detection, which makes them both pretty reliable in terms of malware detection.

Performance and system impact

Windows Defender: You won’t even know it’s running

Windows Defender is a core component of Windows 10, and in most cases, you won’t even notice that it’s running on your PC.

During our testing, we didn’t notice any slowdowns or performance issues. However, during the manual scan, the CPU usage went up to 50%, but that didn’t cause any issues. As for the memory usage, it remained around 150MB.

Overall, we were pretty pleased with the results and didn’t have any issues while using the software in real-time scanning mode.

If you choose to perform a quick or full scan, you might encounter some slowdowns, but that applies only on low-end PCs.

Avast Antivirus: Low CPU usage during scans

While being idle, Avast used around 320MB of RAM and less than 1% of CPU power, so we didn’t even notice that it was running.

Regarding the scanning process, the memory usage went up to 334MB. As for the CPU usage, it varied between 20% and 40% or a bit more at times.

Although Avast used a bit more RAM than Windows Defender, it made up for it with its CPU usage. While Windows Defender kept CPU usage around 50% at all times during the manual scan, the CPU usage varied with Avast.

Overall, it seems that during our testing Avast used less CPU power on average, which makes it a perfect choice for low-end PCs.

Pricing

Windows Defender: Comes with Windows 10, completely free

Windows Defender is a part of Windows 10, so it doesn’t have any additional fees. You just need to purchase Windows 10, and Windows Defender will be there with all of its features, free of charge.

All future updates are also free, so there’s no need to renew your license, meaning that you continue to use the software as long as you’re using Windows 10.

Avast Antivirus: Free, but with certain limitations

The free version of Avast Antivirus offers great protection from all online threats, including ransomware, while offering impressive customization options.

However, certain features are available only in the Premium version. The few features that we missed the most are the ability to run apps in Sandbox mode as well as firewall protection.

Webcam spying protection, file shredding, and protection against malicious websites are also available in the Premium version, but we managed to get by without them.

Keep in mind that the Free version might give you a reminder from time to time asking you to consider upgrading to the Premium version. While these reminders are harmless, some users might find them annoying.

Conclusion

Windows Defender: Great basic protection available on any device

During our testing Windows Defender proved to be reliable and simple to use. Being a default antivirus on Windows 10 has its benefits, meaning that you’ll be protected as soon as you boot your PC.

Windows Defender improved a lot since the release of Windows 10, and except for minor and rare slowdowns, we didn’t have any issues.

The software doesn’t offer any advanced configuration, which can be a downside for some. Our only complaint was the lack of the schedule feature, so you’ll have to manually start every scan.

Pros
Free
Comes with Windows 10
Simple to use
Protects from all types of malware
Ransomware protection
Cons
No scan scheduling
Not many configuration options

Avast Antivirus: Secure and highly configurable

We were pleasantly surprised by the number of features that Avast offered, even in the free version. The interface is intuitive and simple to use, so even first-time users will be able to use it.

Configuration is a big part of Avast, and at times we felt overwhelmed with the number of settings that you can change, but that’s something that security experts will surely appreciate.

Certain features such as Software Updater, Driver Updater, and Cleanup felt a bit unnecessary, but you don’t have to use them if you want, and most of them are available only in the Premium version.

Pros
Simple and friendly user interface
Free to use
Highly configurable
Offers protection against all modern threats
Ransomware protection
Cons
Some features are available only in Premium version
Some features felt unnecessary

Comparing Windows Defender and Avast Antivirus isn’t an easy task, but if you’re going for the free option, both are great choices when it comes to available features.

However, we found Avast’s interface more engaging, and the level of settings that you can change is also a plus if you’re a security expert.

Microsoft will finally release a Xbox mini-fridge this holiday season

Microsoft’s Xbox and Bethesda E3 games showcase just ended, but there’s one big announcement that the company saved for the very last second. While the focus were the 30 new games, 27 of which are coming to Xbox Game Pass, Microsoft says you’ll soon be able to buy an Xbox Mini Fridge of your own.

Microsoft did not share a specific release date, but you can see the Xbox One X mini-fridge in action above in the trailer. The company introduced it by teasing the fridge as “a new system that leaves others cold.” You can see how the fridge opens up to expose the green inside and the “Xbox Velocity Cooling Architecture.”

If you may recall, the Xbox mini-fridge was a bit of a gag when the Series X console was first revealed, with people saying it looks just like a fridge. Microsoft followed up by handing out free Xbox mini-fridges to influencers as a joke, but now you’ll be able to have one in your hands soon.

The company built up to this moment by urging people to vote in the BestOfTweets Brand Campaign and help Xbox win to bring one into production. Now it’s finally happening. We hope that the fridge remains affordable, though, as not everyone has $500 to spend on such a gag gift. Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.

Install MSI motherboard drivers without a CD [Easy Guide]

Installing the drivers for your new mainboard isn’t always simple, and many are wondering how to do so without a CD.

Most hardware comes with a driver CD, but many PCs don’t have an optical drive, so installing the drivers from the CD won’t work.

However, there are several methods that you can use to install the latest MSI motherboard drivers, and in this guide, we’re going to show you how to do that.

How can I install MSI motherboard drivers without a CD?

1. Use the Device Manager

  1. Press Windows Key + X and select the Device Manager from the list.
    device manager
  2. Find the device whose driver you want to update, right-click it and choose Update driver.
  3. Now select Search automatically for updated driver software.
  4. Windows will now try to find and install the appropriate driver.
  5. Repeat these steps for all motherboard components.

Although this method is pretty simple, it has a couple of drawbacks. For instance, the database of drivers that Microsoft uses isn’t regularly updated, so you most likely won’t get the latest drivers.

In addition, you’ll need to repeat this process a couple of times to update all drivers that are associated with your motherboard.

However, there’s a faster and simpler way to install MSI motherboard drivers without a CD.

2. Use specialized software

Updating drivers manually can be a tedious task, but luckily some applications can update all your motherboard drivers automatically, with just a couple of clicks.

Among our top recommendations for such software is Outbyte Driver Updater because it is very light and easy to use. It is proven to always find the best driver version for your specific hardware.

Using automatic software removes the risks that are imposed by installing a mismatched driver. This mistake can severely affect your system and is pretty difficult to remediate.

You can let Outbyte Driver Updater run in the background and regularly scan, update and repair your drivers so you won’t have to worry about this issue in the future.

⇒ Get Outbyte Driver Updater

3. Download the drivers from the MSI website

  1. Open your web browser and visit the MSI download page.
  2. Now select motherboard from the list of devices and choose your motherboard model.
  3. Once you do that, click the Search button to search for the driver.
  4. Navigate to the Driver section and select your operating system from the menu.
  5. Expand all available sections and click the Download icon on the right.
  6. Download the drivers for all components that are listed on the website.
  7. Now run the downloaded files and follow the instructions on the screen to install the drivers.

This is a relatively simple method, and to do it, you just need to know the model name of your motherboard and follow the instructions listed in this guide.

One advantage of this method is that you’re downloading the drivers from the official source, and as a result, you’ll always get the latest drivers for your motherboard.

However, this method takes the most time since you need to manually find, download, and install each driver.

This short guide showed you how to install MSI motherboard drivers without a CD, and we hope that you find it helpful.

Even more, it’s mandatory to constantly back up your drivers. Therefore, we can only encourage you to use the best driver backup software for Windows 10 in that regard.

You can also use specialized tools, but before doing that, you need to read our guide and learn how to download MSI Driver Utility Installer.

Malwarebytes Free vs Premium: In-depth feature comparison

Keeping your PC safe from malware should be your priority, and one of the best tools for that task is Malwarebytes.

This is a well-known malware removal software that comes in Free and Premium versions. Both versions are highly effective when it comes to malware removal, but what are their differences between the two?

In today’s guide, we’re going to test Malwarebytes Free and Premium and see what does each version have to offer, and is Malwarebytes Premium worth buying.

Malwarebytes Free vs Premium, which one should you use to protect your PC?

A quick history lesson

Malwarebytes first appeared in 2006, and over the years it became one of the better malware removal applications on the market.

The software is available on Windows, macOS, Android, iOS, and Chrome OS. There are two pricing models available, Free and Premium, and the Free version comes with a 14-day Premium trial.

User interface

Malwarebytes has an incredibly simple user interface thus offering only the essential functionality to its users.

The interface is divided into three sections, allowing you to easily check the detection history, configure your protection or perform a system scan.

As for notifications, you can quickly access them from the toolbar and can click each notification to see the full detection report.

With its clean interface, large icons, and buttons, the software is friendly to use, and since there are no extensive configuration options, even first-time users won’t have any problems with it.

Regarding the interface, it’s worth mentioning that some basic customization is available, allowing you to switch to the dark mode or use one of the two available backgrounds.

We do have a couple of complaints when it comes to the interface. During a scan, you’ll get a banner at the bottom asking you to upgrade to the Premium version, if you’re a Free user.

This doesn’t affect the application in any way, but some users might not like this. We didn’t find this banner too intrusive, but we can understand why some users might not like it.

Also, the news section feels a bit out of place. While it’s important to keep up with the cybersecurity news, having a news section in the application itself feels a bit unnecessary.

This feature might come in handy to some users, especially less tech-savvy ones that don’t follow the latest cybersecurity news, however, we didn’t find too much use for it.

Fortunately, the Security news section appears only in a single part of the application, so it’s not too intrusive, and you’ll most likely forget that it exists.

The stats section is also something that we didn’t find too useful. Having a quick overview of how many malicious websites or unwanted applications Malwarebytes stopped on your computer is always useful.

You can even expand each section and see a detailed report for each detected item. However, there’s no need to have global statistics in the application since they can’t benefit you as an end-user.

Malwarebytes features

Malwarebytes Free: Simple but solid malware scanner

The basic version of Malwarebytes is completely free and it comes with a reliable malware scanner. The software can detect and remove both malware and unwanted applications from your PC.

You can perform a regular scan that will scan your memory and startup objects for any malicious content. After the malicious content is detected, you can choose to ignore it, remove it, or quarantine it.

You can also set up your custom scan and choose the destinations that you want to scan. You can scan for rootkits, archives, registry entries, and memory objects.

Of course, you can choose which folders or drivers you want to scan from this section as well. Lastly, you can configure how the software will react if it detects unwanted programs.

You can choose to treat them as malware or ignore them. You can also get a prompt asking you what would you like to do with each unwanted application that is detected on your PC.

The software also offers detailed reports, and you can see all detected threats that were found on your PC. If you want, you can learn about each threat by clicking its name on the report page.

Regarding reports, the Detection History section allows you to view all your reports, along with all the quarantined and whitelisted items.

If needed, you can easily delete or restore items from the quarantine, and you can also add files, folders, websites, and applications to the list of exclusions.

We also have to mention that Malwarebytes comes with an optional Browser Guard extension. This extension should protect you against unwanted applications, trackers, scams, and online malware.

The extension can also detect unwanted software websites and warn you before you visit them, so you won’t ever install any unwanted software on your PC.

It’s important to mention that you can run Malwarebytes and Windows Defender at the same time, which can be useful if you want to make your PC even more secure.

However, to achieve this, you need to make few small changes in your settings and disable the option to register Malwarebytes in the Windows Security Center.

Overall, Malwarebytes Free offers some great features, and it will provide solid protection to any PC.

Malwarebytes Premium: Malwarebytes, but more advanced

The Premium version of Malwarebytes offers the same features as the Free one, so everything that we mentioned in the previous section applies to the Premium version of Malwarebytes.

However, the Premium version has several features that separate it from the Free version. While the Free version offers a great malware scanner, the Premium version has Real-Time Protection.

Real-Time Protection consists of four features: Web Protection, Malware and PUP Protection, Ransomware Protection, and Exploit Protection.

Why is this important? The Free version doesn’t have real-time protection, and if you visit a malicious website or download a malicious file, your PC will get infected.

Once you run the scan in the Free version, the scan will detect the malware and then try to remove it. As you can see, this can be problematic, and if you don’t scan your PC frequently, your PC will have malware on it.

When using the Premium version of Malwarebytes, the malicious files will be detected automatically as soon as you try to run them and your PC will remain protected.

The same applies to harmful websites or websites that host unwanted software, so you’ll remain protected at all times.

Scan scheduling is also available only in the Premium version, and you can choose between three different scan types: Threat Scan, Quick Scan, and Custom Scan.

Regarding the scheduling, you can choose the start date and start time and choose if you want to perform the scan daily, weekly, monthly, or on every reboot.

There’s also a useful option that allows you to perform a scan at the first opportunity if for some reason the scheduled scan wasn’t able to perform.

As for advanced options, you can choose to quarantine all threats automatically or even restart your computer to remove persistent malware threats.

All your scheduled scans are easily visible in the Scan Scheduler section and you can edit or remove them with just a single click.

Malware detection rate

Malwarebytes: Almost perfect antivirus protection

According to the Malwarebytes Premium testing by AV Test, Malwarebytes offered 100% effective protection against 0-day malware attacks and widespread malware.

When it comes to false detections, Malwarebytes performed almost perfectly and it had zero false warnings or blockages when visiting websites.

However, there was a single false detection when performing a system scan, which isn’t alarming. As for false warnings when using legitimate software, there was only a single warning, which is slightly above the industry average.

Regarding the false blockages of legitimate software, there were only 2 false blockages. Again, this isn’t too concerning, but it’s a bit over the industry average.

While Malwarebytes offers a 100% detection rate for malware, it might on some rare occasions falsely detect certain legitimate applications as a threat, however, most users shouldn’t be too concerned about it.

Requirements and resource usage

If you’re concerned about Malwarebytes memory usage, our tests showed that the application was using only 79MB on our PC while being idle. As for CPU usage, it remained around 0% at all times.

As for the Malwarebytes Service, while being idle it used only 210.8MB of RAM and no CPU.

The situation was slightly changed when we performed the scan, and the resource usage for the application remained almost the same in terms of memory.

The CPU usage went up to 3.7%, but that’s nothing to worry about. Regarding the Malwarebytes service, it was using up to 80% at times during our scanning and RAM usage went up to 530MB.

Keep in mind that we tested the application on the low-end PC, and the scanning process somewhat affected our performance, most notably while multitasking.

As you can see, the memory usage of Malwarebytes isn’t a problem, but CPU usage might cause minor inconvenience on some older low-end PCs. However, this shouldn’t be a problem if you have a PC that is 4 or 5 years old, so you shouldn’t worry about it.

As for the requirements, here’s the list of hardware requirements for PC:

Operating system:Windows 10
Windows 8.1
Windows 8
Windows 7 SP1
CPU:800MHz with SSE2 technology
RAM:2GB for 64-bit OS
1GB for 32-bit OS
Storage:Minimum 250MB
Network:Active Internet connection

Conclusion

Malwarebytes Free: Simple, and easy to use malware removal software

If you suspect that your PC is infected with malware or you have potentially unwanted software installed, Malwarebytes Free should be able to detect it and remove it.

The software is incredibly simple to use, and even first-time users should be able to handle it. The Free version has its drawbacks, and the largest one is the lack of real-time protection.

Without it, your PC will get infected, and only if you manually scan your PC, you’ll be able to find and remove the malware or unwanted applications.

It’s worth noting that this version doesn’t support scheduled scanning, so you’ll have to start each scan manually. This isn’t a major issue, but it can get tedious especially if you scan your PC daily or if you simply want to automate the scanning process.

This is a problem since it makes it inevitable for your PC to get infected. There are few ways to work around this issue, and the first one is to use common sense and avoid shady websites.

To help you with that, we suggest using the Malwarebytes Browser Guard extension for your browser. You can also use Malwarebytes alongside Windows Defender without the interface, which is a plus.

By doing so, Windows Defender can do real-time scanning while Malwarebytes can be used for manual or scanning.

The Free version also offers reminders to upgrade to the Premium version, and while we didn’t find them too invasive, some users might not see it that way.

Overall, Malwarebytes Free is a great malware removal tool, and if you haven’t tried it yet, this might be the perfect time to do so.

Fix: War Thunder Video Driver Hung and Was Restarted

Some players have posted on Steam’s forum about a War Thunder video driver-hung issue that arises for that game. Chances are you’re no stranger to this problem either.

When that issue arises, an error message appears in the game that says: Video driver hung and was restarted. Consequently, War Thunder briefly freezes and then reduces graphical/texture quality.

Assuming that you want to get rid of the issue as soon as possible, don’t hesitate to take a closer look at the troubleshooting tips mentioned below.

How can I fix the War Thunder video driver hung error?

1. Update your PC’s GPU driver

Try updating your PC’s GPU driver. The best way to do that is to scan your PC with driver updater software. Your driver updater utility will tell you if your GPU’s driver needs updating.

2. Undo GPU overclocking

War Thunder’s video driver hung issue can arise because of players overclocking their GPU or CPU. If you’ve overclocked your PC with third-party overclocking software, undo any overclocking you’ve applied.

Restore your PC to its default clocks with your overclock software and see if the issue persists.

3. Select the openGL test option

  1. First, open the War Thunder launcher shown directly below.

  5. Also, select a lower option on the Anti-aliasing drop-down menu.

You can download the latest patch updates from the Changelog section of War Thunder’s website. If a new patch is available, download and install it to update War Thunder.

6. Clean boot Windows 10

  2. Then you can open MSConfig by entering this command in Run and clicking OK: msconfig
  3. On the General tab, select the Selective startup option so you can configure those settings.

  11. Finally, press the Restart button on the dialog box that pops up.
  12. After that, try playing War Thunder after clean-booting Windows.

If clean-booting Windows fixes the video-hung driver issue, the error was likely due to conflicting programs or too much background software.

Clean booting removes superfluous startup software and services, frees up system resources, and reduces potential software conflicts.

You can restore your original boot configuration by selecting the Load startup items and Enable all options within MSConfig.

If you do that, however, you’ll need to identify what programs conflict with the game or free up system resources by closing background software before playing.
