Excel File Format and Extension Don’t Match: How to Fix It

If you rename a file extension from one Excel format to another (e.g., from a .xlsx to .xls), you get the following error message:

The file format and extension of .xls don’t match. The file could be corrupted or unsafe. Unless you trust its source, don’t open it. Do you want to open it anyway?

Microsoft Excel opens files in various formats, such as .xls, .xlsx, .xlsm, .xlsb, .xltx, .xml, and many more. This error also gets worse. If you click Yes, the file opens anyway, but with all of its content missing.

Of course, like all error messages, the format and extension don’t match error can be as a result of other underlying issues, the most common of which is that the document is deemed to be corrupt.

Here is what to do when faced with this challenge.

How do I fix format and extension don’t match in Excel?

1. Unblock access for safe files

  1. Go to the folder which contains the Excel file.
  2. Right-click on the document you are trying to open.
  3. From the options, select Properties.
  4. Next, on the General tab hit Unblock.
  5. Finally, click on the OK.

2. Add the workbook to a Trusted Location

  1. Launch Ms Excel.
  2. Click File on the toolbar and then choose Options.
  3. Next, in the resulting screen, click Trust Center.fix file format and extension don't match: click trust center
  4. Finally, click on Trust Center Settings and select Trusted Locations on the left sidebar.add a trusted location to repair the file format and extension don't match error

In Microsoft Excel 2010, 2013, and 2016, saving a file to a Trusted Location lets the program view it as safe. Excel comes with default trust locations, and you can add others by clicking the Add new location button.

Save the problematic worksheet in a trust location and try to open it again. However, you must note that if a malicious person places a file in a trusted location, Excel will overlook this document also.

3. Repair the workbook to fix file format and extension don’t match error

  1. Launch Microsoft Excel.
  2. Click the File menu on the toolbar and hit Open.
    • This will open the dialog box to browse for the file.
  3. From the dialog box, click Browse and find the workbook that gives the file format and extension don’t match.
  4. Next, instead of opening this file straight away, click on the little arrow beside the Open button and choose the Open and Repair option from the dropdown.open and repair worksheet to fix file format and extension don't match error
  5. Finally, click Repair. This should now recover the content of the problematic workbook.
  6. If the Repair operation fails to restore all the formulas and values from the workbook, try again by using the Extract Data

These solutions above should clear the file format and extension don’t match error. However, if all fail, backing up the workbook or creating a recovery file can salvage your data.

In the next section, we will explore how to recover data from the problematic file, as well as how to back up the workbook.

4. Change the calculation setting to manual from automatic

  1. Launch Microsoft Excel.
  2. Click on the File menu on the toolbar and hit New.
  3. Next, click on Blank workbook. This will open a new workbook with no values.
  4. Now, click on file again, but this time, select Options.
  5. Navigate to Formulas, and under Calculation options, select Manual.manual formula calculation fixes file format and extension don't match error
  6. Hit OK.

Now open the workbook and confirm that the file no longer gives the file format and extension don’t march error or opens blank sheets.

In conclusion, the file format and extension don’t march error comes, especially when you rename an Excel file to another extension.

We have looked into troubleshooting this issue by unblocking files, saving and opening the workbook from a trusted location, and repairing the file.

Also, we went over preventive measures to take on your worksheet, so that you do not lose data. Are you experiencing this issue or got it in the past? How did you resolve it?

We appreciate your comments and will get to as many as possible.

Microsoft Outlook email signatures will sync in the cloud

In June, Microsoft will finally bring out the e-mail signature synchronization to the cloud for Outlook. This feature was expected for a long time ago by Outlook users.

How can I sync my e-mail signature in Outlook?

The whole point of the Outlook e-mail signature syncing in the cloud is to ensure a consistent user experience when you access Outlook for Windows on any of your computers.

That means that when you will create an e-mail signature on one computer, it will sync to all the other devices if you’re using the same account.

What is an e-mail signature?

The e-mail signature is the personal or professional contact data you set for the end of the e-mail. That can mainly contain text, but you can also add graphical information.

At this moment, the signatures are stored on the device you create them. So if you create the signature on a PC, and try to send an e-mail from Outlook installed on another device, you will not be able to use that signature.

According to the Microsoft 365 roadmap, the feature is timed for a rollout beginning in June 2020, and right now it will be working only on Outlook for Windows.

However, as it’s super-useful, it wouldn’t be a total surprise if it will also extend to other platforms in the future.

Outlook’s text prediction feature

Until the e-mail signature comes along, we will have a text prediction feature in Outlook that will enable you to compose your mails via the web-based platform much faster.

It’s similar to Gmail’s Smart Compose and it’s coming to Outlook on the web later this Month.

OSError [Errno 48] Address Already in Use: 3 Ways to Fix

You get the oserror: [errno 48] address already in use, also known as Python socket error 48, when a process attempts to bind itself to a busy port.

This error is somewhat different than Python runtime error that we covered earlier, so let’s see how we can fix it.

What is socket error 48 address already in use?

  • This error message occurs while using Python.
  • It’s caused because a different process is already using the specified socket.

How do I fix oserror: [errno 48] address already in use?

1. Specify an unused port number for the process

  1. Start the command line.
  2. Add the port number after the above command, so that it becomes: $ python -m SimpleHTTPServer (Port Number)

  3. Make sure to change the port number with the actual port number.

After running the above command, confirm if oserror: [errno 48] address already in use error is gone.

2. Free up the port

  1. Locate and list the processes using the port by running the command below: $ ps -fA | grep python

  2. If successful, you will see the process codes in the argument, looking like the line below: 502 89332 12877 0 3:40PM ttys00 0:00.15 python -m SimpleHTTPServer
  1. From the argument above, if multiple python processes are active, it is easy to spot the process running SimpleHTTPServer.
  2. From the argument above, we can now kill the process with code 89332 to free up the port. Enter the following command to kill this process: kill 89332

  3. If the process is not responding, you can also kill the process using the tougher command below: sudo kill -9 PID
  1. The above command sends a standard SIGTERM signal.
  2. Finally, bind the process to the port you just freed up by running the following command: $ python -m SimpleHTTPServer (Port Number)

Remember that you should change the (Port Number) in the command to the actual port number.

After entering the last command above, the process will be created on the free port. This method has proven to repair oserror: [errno 48] address already in use error.

3. Restart Raspberry Pi

  1. Turn off your Raspberry Pi.
  2. Wait for a few moments.
  3. Power it up again.

As mentioned at the beginning of this troubleshooting guide, the process may already be bound to port 800 (the default port) if you ran it before.

You can easily clear the oserror: [errno 48] address already in use by specifying an unused port or freeing up the port that the process is bound to.

By following any of the above-written methods, you should be able to fix the Python socket error 48. Python is prone to errors, and we already covered PermissionError: [Errno 13] permission denied in one of our older guides.

We also have a new guide on Cannot open shared object no such file or directory error, so you might be interested in checking it out.

However, we would appreciate it if you let us know which method worked best for you by leaving us a message in the comments section below.

Minecraft Dungeons review: A charming dungeon crawler that feels a bit unfinished

Minecraft is the most popular game of all time, with developer Mojang recently announcing 200 million copies sold. The sandbox game is Microsoft’s most valuable gaming IP, so expectations are quite high for Minecraft Dungeons, a new dungeon crawler that will be released on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and Windows 10 tomorrow, May 26.

During my hands-on with the closed Windows 10 beta, I wondered if Dungeons could well be “Minecraft for the rest of us.” Even though the original game has 126 million monthly active players, it has a steep learning curve and the pixelated graphic style is definitely not for everyone. Well, the blocky art style is definitely easier on the eyes in Dungeons, which makes excellent use of Epic’s Unreal Engine 4, and the game is much more accessible than regular Minecraft.

If Minecraft never clicked with you before, Minecraft Dungeons may well be the game that could change that. It probably helps that Dungeons can be played with up to four players in co-op, though crossplay is unfortunately not supported at launch.

The review code Xbox sent me included both the PC and Xbox One versions of the game, and I played Minecraft Dungeons mostly on PC because that version was able to import my character from the closed PC beta. However, the game runs flawlessly on both my Xbox One X and my PC, and the latter version supports both mouse and keyboard and Xbox controller input.

An accessible gameplay

Unlike other dungeon crawlers like Diablo 3, Minecraft Dungeons has no class system. This means that you won’t have to choose between melee-focused characters and others better at ranged attacks. All the character customization is done through loot, the enchantment points you can use to give your weapons special perks, and artifacts that give you special abilities with a cooldown time.

During my playthrough, I found that all melee weapons are not equal: you’ll start the game with a sword, but you’ll find plenty of other options including the familiar pickaxe, sickles, hammers, but my personal favorite is the two-handed glaive which has a very long range, making it easier to hit multiple enemies with one swing and keeping them at a distance.

In addition to your melee weapon, you can also shoot arrows at enemies with a bow, though arrows are pretty limited. Your armor and weapons can be customized with enchantment points, which you gain every time your character gains a new level. As an example, my level 47 character has 47 enchantment points to spend on perks that are unique to your equipment.

When you salvage your equipment, you’ll get back the enchantment points you spent on them to use on new gear. This flexible system encourages players to change their equipment all the time, and enchantments are guaranteed to make your gear pretty unique.

The artifact system will also allow you to equip three objects that will give you special abilities: My favorite ones were the Totem of Shielding which creates a protective shield that can block all projectiles for a couple of seconds. The Totem of Regeneration is also a quick way to heal yourself on the battlefield by creating a circular aura that will heal you and your allies.

Some other artifacts also let you collect souls every time you kill enemies, and you can use this resource to use magic spells. However, I didn’t find this “Mana” equivalent very effective so far, though maybe I still need to find artifacts that make better use of this resource.

Overall, the gameplay in Minecraft Dungeons is very accessible, and there’s actually no crafting at all (more on that later). The game is rated for ages 7 and up, and I found the enchantment system easy to understand and well-thought-out. It’s definitely not as complex as a real class system, but the possibilities still seem endless

A short adventure with good replay value

Minecraft Dungeons is a pretty short game, and I finished the 9 main missions in less than six hours, though there are some hidden levels to unlock if you take your time When you finish the game, you’ll unlock a new difficulty level with stronger enemies and new gear and artifacts to find.

All levels in Minecraft Dungeons are procedurally generated, which adds some replay value to the game. It’s also worth noting that every level has specific gear drops and artifacts to find, so you may need to play them multiple times to find the weapons and artifacts you’re looking for.

The story in Minecraft Dungeons is pretty barebones, and your main goal is to put an end to the Arch-Illager’s reign of terror. You’ll encounter the little tyrant multiple times during the game, and you’ll have to eliminate all of his evil minions to progress further. The pretty bland story is a bit of missed opportunity, especially since there are no real NPCs in the game.

Between missions, you’ll end up at your camp where you can find the blacksmith and wandering trader to exchange your gems for randomized gear or artifacts. However, these two NPCs have zero dialogue options, and you won’t find anything else to do in the camp. To my knowledge, there are also no sidequests, except for the hidden level I mentioned above.

As of this writing, I finished the game a second time and unlocked the “Apocalypse” difficulty level. I’m still having fun playing it and I’m able to find much better gear than before, but I hope the game will get more content soon. Developers Mojang and Double Eleven are already working on DLCs that will be included in the game’s Hero Edition, and you can already see these additional adventures on the Mission Select screen.

A little more polishing needed

Minecraft Dungeons is a fine game considering it’s priced at a very affordable $19.99, but there are certain things that left me scratching my head. First of all, the Windows 10 and Xbox One versions don’t share saves via Xbox Live, which is a very surprising omission considering that Xbox Live achievements are shared between both platforms. Cross-play multiplayer is also missing at launch, though Mojang said it’s coming in a future update.

I spent a couple of hours playing Minecraft Dungeons in online coop with a friend, and I was quite surprised to see that you can’t exchange gear with teammates. Loot is actually pretty rare in the game, and you’ll be very happy if you find 10 different objects on a level. As I wrote before, each level has a pre-defined selection of loot drops, so players looking for certain objects will have to complete the same level multiple times. Moreover, you can only exchange your money for randomized gear, and the two merchants in your base camp won’t allow you to buy what you want.

The latter point was probably the most frustrating thing for me in Minecraft Dungeons. If you’re a fan of certain weapons, bows, armors, or artifacts, it’s actually pretty hard to get more of them. Not only is the loot dropping insufficient in the game, but you can only spend your own money on randomized items, and you’ll often get the same midrange stuff over and over.  As a result, I often had to wait literally hours before I could upgrade my equipment for something better, and I think the game could really benefit from having a trading system between players, as well as real merchants in the base camp. You can’t even purchase arrows for your bow, and those are actually pretty rare to find on the battlefield.

My last point of criticism would be about the absence of crafting, which is pretty curious for a Minecraft game, as well as the absence of destructible elements. In the original Minecraft game, the exploding Creeper mobs create huge craters on the ground when they blow up, but the terrain is completely indestructible in Minecraft Dungeons. Even the rare TNT crates you can throw on enemies will leave absolutely no trace on the ground. That’s probably not that big of a deal in a dungeon crawler, but crafting and destructible elements play a key role in the original Minecraft game, so it’s pretty weird to see them completely missing in Minecraft Dungeons.

A perfectible but promising formula

Overall, Minecraft Dungeons is good value for a $20 game, and it will also be a good addition to Xbox Game Pass for PC and Console. It’s also great that the game is launching tomorrow on PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch, though it’s too bad that Microsoft couldn’t get cross-play multiplayer ready at launch.

Minecraft Dungeons certainly doesn’t reinvent the dungeon crawler style of games perfected by Blizzard’s Diablo series, but it does make it more accessible with a simple but versatile progression system. The main issue for me is the lack of content with a campaign that can be finished in six hours, and the game being generally too ungenerous with loot. The really good stuff is a bit too hard to find, and the game would certainly be more fun if it gave you more things to experiment with.

I’m hoping to see some gameplay improvements in post-launch updates, including the ability to trade loot with other players. A PvP multiplayer mode would also be interesting, especially since there are so many ways to customize your character with enchantments and artifacts.

If you plan to get the game on Xbox One, be aware that Minecraft Dungeons doesn’t support Xbox Play Anywhere or cross-saves with the PC version, which has to be purchased separately. Minecraft was already the rare exception in the growing pool of Xbox Game Studios titles that support Xbox Play Anywhere, so that’s not really surprising. Anyway, $20 is pretty cheap, and it’s even cheaper to try Minecraft Dungeons with Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, which is just $1 for new subscribers.

Seeing the 0xc0000006 Error (STATUS_IN_PAGE_ERROR)? Fix it

Some users have discussed a 0xc0000006 error on software support forums. That error arises when users try to launch some of their software.

The error message can have an error message that states: The application was unable to start correctly 0xc0000006. That’s a STATUS_IN_PAGE_ERROR which can often arise for users trying to run software from network volumes. If you need to resolve that error, check out these potential fixes.

This is how you can fix the 0xc0000006 error

1. Clean boot Windows

  1. The 0xc0000006 error can be due to conflicting third-party software, such as antivirus utilities. To clean boot Windows without any conflicting startup software, press the Windows key + R keyboard shortcut.
  2. Enter MSConfig in Run’s text box and click OK to open the window in the image directly below.
    MSConfig window 0xc0000006 Error (STATUS_IN_PAGE_ERROR)?
  3. Click the Selective startup items option.
  4. Deselect the Load startup items checkbox.
  5. Select the Load system services and Use original boot configuration checkboxes.

  8. Select the Apply option.
  9. Press the OK button to exit the window.
  10. Click the Restart option on the dialog box that opens.

2. Uninstall third-party antivirus software

If clean booting Windows does fix the issue, you’ll need to figure out what third-party program or service is conflicting with the software error 0xc0000006 arises for. It might be the case that your antivirus utility was the conflicting software. So, try uninstalling that antivirus utility and then restore your original boot configuration.

You can do that by entering appwiz.cpl in Run to open Programs and Features. Then select to uninstall the third-party antivirus utility from that Control Panel applet. Thereafter, restore your original boot configuration with MSConfig; and restart the desktop or laptop.

3. Run a system file scan

  1. Some users have confirmed a System File Checker scan can fix error 0xc0000006. To initiate an SFC scan, press the Windows key + S keyboard shortcut.
  2. Input cmd in the search box to find Command Prompt.
  3. To open an elevated Command Prompt, right-click it and select Run as administrator.

  6. If that scan repairs some files, restart the desktop or laptop.

4. Edit the registry

  1. Editing the Windows registry key might also fix the 0xc0000006 error for some users. To do so, open Run’s window.
  2. Enter regedit in the Open box, which will open the Registry Editor when you click OK. Open this registry key path: Computer > HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SOFTWARE > WOW6432Node > Microsoft > Windows NT > CurrentVersion > Windows.
The Windows key 0xc0000006 Error (STATUS_IN_PAGE_ERROR)?
  3. Select the Windows registry key.
  4. Double-click Applnit_DLL on the right section of the Registry editor.
Edit String window 0xc0000006 Error (STATUS_IN_PAGE_ERROR)?
  5. Erase the number in the Edit String window, and click the OK button.
  6. Exit the Registry Editor, and restart Windows.

So, give some of those potential fixes for error 0xc0000006 a try. As a last resort, you could try reinstalling Windows with a repair install to reset the platform’s components.

If you can’t set up the installation media for a repair install, resetting Windows is an alternative method.

Experiencing a domain server mismatch? Try these easy fixes

What makes troubleshooting a network or Internet connection particularly arduous is discerning between whether it’s a hardware issue or a software one.

For instance, as a Google Chrome user, you may have tried to access a website only to receive a message not dissimilar to this one:

This server could not prove that it is accesswebsite.com; its security certificate is from example.com. This may cause a misconfiguration or an attacker intercepting your connection.

For those who have the misfortune of using Internet Explorer or Microsoft Edge, your message may look like this:

The security certificate presented by this website was issued for a different website’s address.

Security certificate problems may indicate an attempt to fool you or intercept any data you send to the server.‘

The website you’re trying to access may very well be your own. If you trust the website you’re trying to access and would like to stop your browser from flashing this message in the future, the following guide will show you how.

What to do if my domain doesn’t match a server’s certificate?

1. Google Chrome Workaround

  1. Double-check the website‘s URL in your address bar.
  2. If you know it’s safe, click on ADVANCED.
  3. Click on Proceed to [websitename.com] (unsafe)

Google Chrome domain server workaround

Not so long ago, Google Chrome removed support for commonName matching in certificates. Because of this, it may cause domain name mismatch issues with older websites.

If you’re tired of seeing the above message for websites you’re trying to run locally or Google Chrome, you can disable it completely using these steps:

  1. Copy and paste this link into your Google Chrome address bar
    • chrome://flags/#allow-insecure-localhost
  2. Next to the flag labeled: Allow invalid certificates for resources loaded from localhost, click on the drop-down box and select Enabled.

Getting a NET:: ERR_CERT_INVALID error on Google Chrome? Try these easy fixes.

2. Microsoft Edge and Internet Explorer workaround

  1. Close Microsoft Edge/Internet Explorer and try to re-launch it with administrator rights.
    • Right-click on the shortcut and select Run as administrator.
  2. Launch the web resource or website giving you certificate issues.
  3. Click on Continue to this website (not recommended) if you’re still receiving a security certificate error.
  4. Your address bar should have an error message that reads Certificate Error.
    • An error dialog with the message Untrusted Certificate should appear next. Click on the button marked View Certificate.
  5. Click on the Install Certificate button.
    • It should be next to the Issuer Statement button. I
  6. If you’re presented with a warning message, click on the Yes button.
  7. On some versions of Windows, this will open the Certificate Import Wizard.
    • On the first screen, click on next.
  8. Click on the radio button labeled: Place all certificates in the following store.
  9. Next to the Certificate store text field, click on the Browse button.
  10. Scroll down and select Trusted Root Certification Authorities and then click on OK.
  11. If you can’t find the previous option in the Select Certificate Store screen, click on Cancel and select the radio button labeled:
    • Automatically select the certificate store based on the type of certificate.
  12. Click on Next.
  13. Finally, click on Finish.
  14. Close and relaunch Microsoft Edge/Internet Explorer.

3. Mozilla Firefox workaround

  1. From the warning page, click on the Advanced button.
  2. Click on the button labeled Accept the Risk and Continue.

4. How to solve a CN Mismatch Error for your own site

  1. Use a free online SSL certificate diagnostic tool such as GlobalSign to check whether or not there’s an actual certificate name mismatch.
  2. If you’re using GlobalSign and you have a certificate name mismatch then you should see an error similar to this one:
Certificate name mismatch screen from GlobalSign
  3. Check and make a note of what certificates are installed on your IP address(es) or server(s) (if there’s any).
  4. Click on Ignore Certificate Mismatch or scroll down to the certificate information.
  5. If there’s a common name mismatch, you’ll see some red text indicating this next to your common names.
  6. Make sure that your common names and alternative names are correct.

The issue may be that the right website was not included in your common name(s) by mistake.

For instance, you may have purchased a certificate for a website with the common name www.windowsreport.com but you may have not added windowsreport.com in the list of Subject Alternative Names (SANs).

Consequently, you’ll need to contact the issuer of the certificate to change the SAN. In some cases, SSL companies allow you to modify some of the information on the certificate through a portal.

If you’re using a shared host, where a hosting company allows you to share an IP address with other websites, this could cause issues with your website.

You should also check your firewall and load balancer settings on the server-side. One of the most common issues may stem from an incomplete server certification installation.

In that case, you’ll need to deploy the chain certificate file to the server hosting your website.

This can be accomplished by downloading the chain certificate from the issuer and then installing it on the server. You’ll need to find your server-specific instructions for installation.

Most SSL/TLS certification errors can be solved by contacting the issuer. Either way, let us know how you managed to solve this issue by leaving a comment below.

Is your AOL mailbox not available? Fix it in 6 easy steps

Most error messages give you hints to the cause of the issue, but not the AOL mailbox temporarily not available error. When you try to send a message, if you get this error, confirm that the receiver’s email address is correct.

After that, the next suspect is your internet settings. If the sender’s address is correct, and your internet is connected, the mailbox is likely unavailable due to a server problem or your browser.

On this page are the troubleshooting steps to fix your unavailable AOL mailbox.

How do I fix the AOL mailbox temporarily not available error?

1. Confirm the status of your AOL server

check aol server status for AOL mailbox temporarily unavailable

From the error message AOL mailbox temporarily not available, the most obvious suspect is the AOL server, if you entered the receiver’s email address correctly. You can check your AOL server status on different websites, such as Down Detector and Outage Report.

If the AOL server is down where you are, then you cannot do anything to fix your AOL mailbox that is temporarily not available. However, if the server is up, then the issue is local to your network.

2. Change DNS server configuration

change dns server config to fix aol mailbox temporarily not available

  1. On your computer, go to Control Panel > Network and Internet > Network and Sharing Center > Change adapter options.
  2. Next, configure the specific connection by right-clicking on it and clicking Properties.’
  3. Scroll down to Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) and hit Properties.
  4. If Obtain a DNS address automatically is selected, change it to use the following DNS server addresses.
  5. Change the Preferred DNS server to 8.8.8.8.
  6. Next, change the Alternate DNS server to 8.8.4.4.
  7. Hit OK and reboot the computer to finally confirm if the AOL mailbox is temporarily not available still.

After saving this, flush your DNS cache. If you access the internet from a router, you may have to change the DNS server IP addresses on the router to fix AOL mailbox unavailable.

To change the DNS server configuration on your router, check either the DHCP or LAN settings. In the fields for DNS Server1 and DNS Server2, enter 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4, respectively.

3. Disable security

mailbox unavailable fix disable antivirus and firewall

Antiviruses, anti-malware, and firewalls can block ports and connections you use for accessing your AOL mail.

After changing your DNS server configuration and restarting your machine, if AOL mailbox is temporarily not available still, then disable any security measure you have set up and retry.

4. Clear browsing data and disable extensions

clear browsing data to fix mailbox unavailable

  1. To view your browsing history on most browsers, press CTRL+H. On this screen, you can delete your browsing history, cached files, and data. On other browsers, you have to find and enter the settings page.
  2. From Settings, navigate to the Privacy and security section and look for the option to clear your browsing data. Set the time range for which you want the history removed and hit OK.

By browsing data, we mean internet browsing history, cache, and data. The process of clearing browser data differs from browser to browser, but the fundamentals are the same.

After clearing your browsing data for a more thorough process, it’s best also to disable all third-party extensions. Try sending the email again after doing these.

5. Use the basic AOL WebMail

aol basic version fixes unavailable mailbox issue

  1. To use the AOL WebMail Basic Version on your web browser, open basic.webmail.aol.com.
  2. There, enter your AOL username or email address and password, and hit Sign In.
  3. On signing in, the browser takes you straight to the main interface. Hit Email to start a new email and use the Send button to send it.

6. Retry after a while

Your AOL mailbox might as well be temporarily not available, not due to a wrong configuration or issue from your end; traffic problems can cause some AOL features to be inaccessible.

When a user attempts to use such a feature, AOL mail throws this error. If that is the case with yours, all you need do to fix this error but to wait it out.

Generally, the error mailbox unavailable or AOL mailbox temporarily not available is not a problem from you, unless you did not enter the receiver’s email address correctly. It means that the AOL service cannot communicate with the requested mailbox.

The standard solution is to wait and retry, but if that does not work and the AOL server is up, then clearing your browsing data, disabling your antivirus, and changing your DNS settings are solutions. If all fails, use the AOL Webmail Basic version.

FIX: Skype translator is not working

If you constantly Skype your family, friends, colleagues, or clients overseas, you would know how helpless it feels when Skype translator is not working.

Skype translator stopped working for many users in November 2019, when Microsoft broke the news of them discontinuing the Translator bot. However, Microsoft revamped it and brought it back better than ever.

When the translate function first appeared on the stage in 2015, it was a standalone application, but Microsoft integrated it into Skype the next year, making it now a built-in feature. If the Skype translator is not working in 2020 for you, here’s what to do.

How do I fix the Skype translator if it doesn’t work?

1. Refresh Skype

  1. Sign out of your Skype client and Quit the application.
  2. Reboot your PC after signing out of Skype.
  3. When the computer boots successfully, re-launch the Skype client.
  4. Sign in to your Skype application now and retry the translator function.

If the Skype Translator is not working still, then your next course of action should be to rebuild your Skype client. If it doesn’t , continue to the next solution.

2. Rebuild Skype

rebuild skype translator not working 2020

  1. Uninstall the Skype client from your computer.
    • Do that by navigating to Start > Settings > Apps > Apps & Features.
  2. From the list, click on Skype and select
  3. Open the Run dialog box by pressing the Start button and R.
  4. Next, in the Run dialog box, enter the following string: %appdata% and press Enter.
  5. From the directory you are taken, look for the Skype folder and rename it to Skype_old.
    • If the Skype folder is missing from the list, skip this step.
  6. Next, restart your machine.
  7. Finally, download the latest version of Skype from its website and re-install the client on your computer to check if Skype translator is not working still.

3. Set up Skype Translator correctly

  1. Open the Skype client and navigate to Chats.
  2. Right-click on a contact head and select View profile.
    • You could also click on the contact to open the chat window and then click on their profile.
  3. Next, enable the translation function by clicking on Send translation request.
    • Also, configure the languages and other translation settings.send translation request if skype translation is not working
  4. Skype will now send a translation request to this contact.
  5. The user at the other end will have to accept this request to use Translated Conversations.
  6. If the other party accepts your translation request, you will be able to translate your messages to your chosen language.

With the improved Skype translator, you no longer need to add the Translator bot as a member of your chats whenever you discuss business with your overseas clients. When Skype translator is not working in 2020, the function disappears entirely.

Other times, it only works for specific languages or only one participant, but it’s nothing serious. You can fix this issue by refreshing Skype or rebuilding it entirely.

By following these methods, you should be able to get rid of any Skype translator-related issues that you may be having.

How to restore Kodi when your library is currently empty

Kodi is one of the best media centers for Windows, and other platforms, with which users can organize and open all their media.

A lot of Kodi users install builds, which are basically pre-configured Kodi setups that come with their own themes, add-ons, and even electronic program guides. Some builds give Kodi a very different look and feel.

However, Kodi might revert to its default Estuary skin for some users when they start the software, which displays a your library is currently empty message. Kodi goes back to its original default state with an empty library when that happens.

In such circumstances, users who installed builds need to restore them.

The Estuary skin kodi your library is currently empty

If you’re new to Kodi, note that the your library is currently empty message is not a software error. Some new users might expect Kodi to automatically scan for media content in their folders when they first launch it.

However, Kodi doesn’t automatically scan for media files. Thus, new users need to manually add their media content within the media center’s default Estuary skin.

The Media sources page on the Kodi wiki provides details for how users can add media sources.

How can I restore Kodi when my library is empty?

1. Select the skin that holds your build

  1. If, however, you need to get a Kodi build back, there’s a quick way you can restore it.
    • Click the cog button at the top of Kodi’s left sidebar.
  2. Click Interface to open the options shown directly below.

However, some users might still need to reinstall their builds if Kodi has been completely wiped clean. Thus, you’ll need to start from scratch by turning on the Unknown sources setting so that you can install the third-party build.

Then add the build’s source link via Kodi’s file manager, and select to install the package from the zip file.

3. Back up Kodi

  1. Users who keep backups can restore their Kodi configurations whenever they need to.
    • To back up Kodi, select Add-ons.
  2. Select Download > Install from repository > All repositories to open a list of repositories as in the snapshot directly below.

  11. Select Browse Remote Path > External storage, and then choose a folder path to save backup.

  14. Click the OK button.
  15. Click OK again to close the Backup add-on.
  16. Open the Backup add-on again.
  17. Press the Backup button.

Note that the above guidelines are for Kodi‘s Estuary skin. What you need to click on to install the Backup add-on might be a little different for a third-party build skin.

Nevertheless, when you’ve saved a backup with that add-on, you can restore your Kodi build setup when needed.

To restore it, open the Backup add-on in Kodi, click Open Settings, click Browse Remote Path, and select the folder that includes the backup. After closing Backup, open the add-on again and click its Restore option.

As a conclusion, it is recommended that you keep a Kodi back up to ensure you can always restore your build. When you don’t have a Kodi backup, try selecting the skin for the build as outlined for the first resolution.

If Kodi gets completely wiped clean, however, you should have kept a backup as you’ll need to reinstall the build!

FIX: Failed to install dependency error on Kodi

If you’ve been a long-time fan of Kodi media player, you must have encountered the Failed to install dependency error message at least once, because this is a very common problem.

One of the best things about the Kodi media player is that it uses third-party add one precisely to offer all that content, from all around the world.

If add-ons and their dependencies fail to install – hence the Failed to install dependency error – you can’t get the desired content.

So in this article, we’ll try to cover several ways to fix this error or to force-install dependencies.

How do I fix Kodi failing to install dependencies?

1.Clear Kodi Cacheclear kodi cache

For Windows / Mac / Linux, it is recommended to clear cache via a dedicated add-on such as Ares Wizard. If you’ve been using Kodi for some time, you surely heard of Ares Wizard as the ideal tool to keep Kodi streaming smoothly.

The tool includes a maintenance option that allows you to delete thumbnails, delete packages, and delete cache/temporary files. You can download the .zip file from here or just install it directly from your Kodi using as file source the URL https://areswizard.co.uk/.

For Adroid devices, open Settings >Apps > Kodi > Clear Cache > click and confirm.

For smart TV/ Fire TV Stick, go to Settings > Applications > Manage Installed Applications > Kodi > Clear Cache.

2. Force-install dependency from log filesinstall kodi dependency

  1. Open the Settings menu.
  2. Go to System Settings > Logging.
  3. From the right menu select Show event log. There you should see exactly what dependency failed to install.
  4. Click on it > click on the Install button.

This might do the trick and separately install the dependency and then allow you to install the add-on.

Alternatively, you can Google-search the dependency and you’ll most likely find the .zip file online (on GitHub). Download it, then install it from the .zip file on your device.

3. Remove the Kodi database

  1. Open the Settings menu.
  2. Go to File manager > Profile Directory.
  3. Double click on Database.
  4. Find Addon27.db > righ-click and select Delete > Yes.

Then close Kodi and relaunch it. You will have to re-enable your add-ons from Add-ons > My add-ons and reactivate the ones you find there.

Also, try again to install the add-on you initially wanted to get. If you’re still having problems, let’s move on to the next solution.

4. Install TVAddons Repositoryinstall kodi add-ons

  1. Open the Settings menu.
  2. Go to File manager > Add source.
  3. Click on <None> and insert the URL https://fusion.tvaddons.co, give a name to this source, then click OK.
  4. Then, from the home screen, go to Add-ons > clock on the box icon > Install from zip file.
  5. Look for your source and click on it > select kodi-repos > english > repository.xbmchug-3.0.0.zip.
  6. Repeat step 5 for both files in the kodi-scrips source.

Afterward, go back and try to install the add-ons that you wanted.

5. Uninstall and re-install Kodi appunsintall kodi app

This is just as a last resort, but most likely there’s no need for you to go this far because the problem should have been fixed by now.

If, however, you are here, the Kodi application can be uninstalled from the Settings and Applications/Apps menu of any device, desktops included. Then you can download the web version or the app that you find in the Play Store/ App Store.

What is 5xx server error on Instagram [Explained & Fixed]

Sometimes, like any other Internet service, Instagram can be down, and users who open the app get an error saying Couldn’t refresh feed on the app and 5xx Server Error if you check it on a browser.

This outage can happen pretty often, but it doesn’t take too long until the servers get up and running again. This is normally a general problem that’s not peculiar to a single user.

Before going on to fix the 5xx server error, let’s first have a better understanding of the issue.

What is a 5xx server error on Instagram?

The 5xx server error on Instagram comes up when the app has a problem that the server knows about.

Mostly, the problem can arise from an over-congested server, a network error, a problem with the webserver, or an error executing HTTP requests. Either way, this guide applies to both scenarios.

These errors are of twelve types, and the error messages range from a 500 server error to a 511 server error.

Although all 5xx server error codes point to similar server problems, the numbers give you an insight into the problem with the server.

The various 5xx server errors on Instagram include the following:

  • 500 Internal Server Error
  • 501 Not Implemented
  • 502 Bad Gateway
  • 503 service unavailable
  • 504 Gateway Timeout
  • 505 HTTP Version Not Supported
  • 506 Variant Also Negotiates
  • 507 Insufficient Storage
  • 508 Loop Detected
  • 509 Bandwidth Limit Exceeded
  • 510 Not Extended
  • 511 Network Authentication Required

The most common 5xx server errors are the 501, 502, and 503. You now know the various 5xx server errors on Instagram and their causes. Next, we’ll look at the troubleshooting solutions for this issue.

How do I fix the 5xx server error on Instagram?

1. Wait for the Instagram technicians to solve the problem

As one of the most popular social media platforms, Instagram‘s servers must be online 24/7.

However, thanks to server/network challenges, the unexpected can happen. If Instagram encounters a serious issue, it will be taken down briefly for maintenance.

This also applies when the platform needs updating. If Instagram is offline due to maintenance or a glitch, and a user attempts to access the app, they are likely going to get this dreaded error.

The 503 error code indicates that the admins are currently fixing an issue with or upgrading the servers.

Unfortunately, if you are this user, and you are shown the error, you cannot do anything to fix it yourself except wait on the admins of the platform’s server.

The reason for this is that the issue does not originate from your setup – your app, device, or Internet connection. However, if you hate waiting, you can do some tweaking to fix any general issues.

2. Log in and out of your account

  1. Go to your account and click on Profile.
  2. Click on the icon with three lines and select Settings.
  3. Select Log out.
  4. Log in again into your account.

If there is a blockage caused by your account login, this might solve the problem so you can try it out.

3. Update or reinstall Instagram

Whether you’re using the mobile app or the Windows 10 app, make sure you have the latest version installed.

For the mobile version check the Google Play Store and Appstore and for Windows 10, you can get the app from the Microsoft Store.

You can also try to uninstall and reinstall the app on your mobile or PC. This might refresh and unlock the potential blockage.

4. Check your connection

If the error is 5xx, you shouldn’t be bothering with any connection problems from your side.

But just in case, you may reset your network connection and, if you’re on a mobile, try to disable your Wi-Fi connection so you can switch to mobile data.

By a long shot, if the problem is from your side, this might get you through and connect to Instagram.

You also have another way of troubleshooting your connection and that is by installing a network monitoring app for your PC or mobile.

We hope this guide answers your question of What is a 5xx server error on Instagram? You’ve probably faced the 5xx server error on Instagram if you make use of the platform.

As we’ve discussed in this article, these error codes originate from the server-side, and so you cannot do anything about it but wait until the problem is resolved.

Windows 10 Slack app updates with increased security for all web content

The official Slack app updated to Version 4.6.0 this past week on Windows 10 devices. This latest app update features a rather significant change with the activation of app sandboxing for all web content which means that accessing online content within the app will now be a lot more secure than before.

Also included within this update is the added option for a save location for downloads and the usual bug fixes and improvements.

Here’s the full release notes:

What’s New

  • Batten the hatches! The app sandbox is now enabled for all web content. This is a fancy way of saying we’ve dialed up the security of the app. It wasn’t unsafe before, but it’s double safe now.
  • A preference that allows you to choose a unique save location per download, instead of choosing a folder for all of them. For the choosy types.

Bug Fixes

  • Your notifications should be tidily grouped by workspace when shown in the Action Center.
  • A tricky case where some users were unable to get to the browser to add their first workspace.
  • The Launch on login preference showing the wrong value, when the app was installed from the MSI package.
  • If you found yourself, in some distant past, trying to start a song on Spotify with your keyboard’s play button, and it did not respond to your command while Slack was front and center, pesky hardware media keys were the problem. And this version is the cure.
  • The app should be less spicy to your CPU when you’re viewing certain network error pages.
  • When a download completes, we’ll show an in-app prompt rather than a bothersome system notification.

Slack is a popular collaboration and communication tool for individuals and businesses though it’s recently been faced with stiff competition from Microsoft Teams. Which service do you prefer? Let us know in the comments below and then follow us on Pinterest and Twitter for more Windows app news.

Got the HBO Go too many devices error? Fix it in a few steps

When HBO Go says too many devices are using your profile simultaneously, it doesn’t mean that the service doesn’t support multiple devices. However, only a limited number of devices can stream at once from a single account.

You could only stream from one device at a time, but the limit is now increased to two. When you connect a third device, HBO Go‘s too many devices error pops up. Here, we will show you just what to do when you can’t stream because of this error.

How do I fix the HBO Go too many devices error?

1. Stop streaming on the other devices

  1. On a web browser, visit the HBO Go website on hbogo.com.
  2. Next, hit the Sign In button on the menu bar of the web page.
  3. Choose your TV provider now.choose-tv-provider-hbo-go-too-many-devices
  4. Now, log in with your TV provider’s credentials.
  5. When you successfully log in, go to your Profile page.
    • On a PC, the Profile icon is at the top right area of the screen.
    • On a mobile, select the Profile icon, and then tap the Settings icon in the upper right area.
  6. After getting into your Profile page, click on Manage Devices to view all the computers, mobiles, tablets, and other devices that you have signed in with recently.
  7. You can now sort the devices by their Last Used time.
  8. Since HBO Go says too many devices simultaneously, what you need to do now is to stop streaming from any of these devices.

2. Use sub-accounts from your TV provider

The first solution above is the proper procedure to take in order to reduce the number of simultaneous streams from your account.

Now, there may be no device to disconnect if they’re all really in use. Also, when you switch from device to device, you can get the HBO GO too many devices issue, whether or not you disconnect one.

In this case, where you cannot disconnect devices, a walkaround that lets everyone enjoy streaming simultaneously is by using sub-accounts. Some TV providers allow your users to create accounts under yours.

These accounts have their own usernames and passwords, and this is wonderful. It’s great because, with these secondary accounts, everyone can stream HBO Go without it warning you of too many devices connected.

To get started with this solution, you first need to get in touch with your TV provider via this link to see if they let you create and use secondary accounts on HBO Go.

contact-tv-provider-hbo-go-too-many-devices

If HBO Go says too many devices are streaming simultaneously, it’s clear that you’ve reached the limit. Hence, troubleshooting this error is quite straightforward – simply stop streaming on one or more devices.

However, if you absolutely need to stream on all three or more devices, this guide has also shown you how to do that. Hopefully, you have fixed the HBO Go too many devices problem. If not, let us know in the comments below.

HBO Go not letting you sign in? Fix is easily in 5 steps

As hinted earlier, a refresh could repair the problem when HBO Go won’t let you sign in. However, refreshing, in this case, is not merely hitting the Refresh button.

Browsers typically let you perform hard reloads using different key combinations. On most browsers, you can do a hard refresh by holding down the CTRL key while hitting Refresh.

2. Log in with the website of your TV provider

  1. TV providers obviously have different websites. If you are not sure of that of your TV provider, you go perform a quick Google search. When you find it, head over there.
  2. Look for the Sign in button on the site. It’s usually on the home page.
  3. Click on the Sign-in button and enter your username and password. The credentials you use here should be those of your TV provider.

use-another-browser-hbo-go-not-letting-me-sign-in
Users who complained about HBO Go authentication problems have also resolved the challenge by switching browsers. Now, we don’t recommend that you try logging in to HBP Go using any random browser.

The latest versions of the following browsers are recommended for using HBO Go hitch-free:

  • Opera
  • Google Chrome.
  • Mozilla Firefox.
  • Microsoft Edge.
  • Safari (version 10 and above).
  • Internet Explorer 11 (only on Windows 10 computers).

Note: For more information about HBO Go’s web browser requirements, you should check out this guide.

Apart from the recommended browsers, HBO Go may not let you sign in if your internet speed is slower than 5.0 Mbps. The above solutions are recommended by the company for solving HBO Go authentication problems.

You no longer have to worry about HBO Go not letting you sign in if you follow these steps closely. However, if all fail, you can reach out to HBO Go and submit a request.

If these still not working, we recommend Disney+. It relies on technology developed by Disney Streaming Services a technology subsidiary of The Walt Disney Company. Here you can watch original Disney movies and shows.

Is Cricut not cutting your materials? Fix it in 6 easy steps

If your Cirut machine is not cutting through your material or the Circuit is not cutting at all, you can repair it with some simple troubleshooting. So many times, you attempt to use Cricut for a design, but the machine completely messes it up.

A lot of users have had the challenge of Cricut not cutting through the material, so we will explore the solutions for this problem here. Let us go through troubleshooting tips for when Cricut is not cutting or when it does not cut all the way through.

How do I fix my Cricut not cutting correctly?

1. General troubleshooting tips

  1. Ensure that the blade depth is deep enough to cut cardstock. In most cases, five is perfect.
  2. Increase the pressure to the highest setting.
  3. Make use of a Circut brand blade.
  4. Remove the blade and reinsert it the correct way – the cone point end should not be the side sticking out.
  5. The material you intend to cut must match the one you selected in the material setting.
  6. Try using a different web browser.
  7. Clean the mat to remove debris and create some clearance in the front and back of the machine.

The tips above are the general troubleshooting steps to take when you notice that Circut is not cutting correctly.

If you attempt 1 to 7, and the machine is still malfunctioning, then proceed to the specific solutions that follow.

2. Install the green/gold assembly into the cutting arms correctly

install the green/gold assembly into the cutting arms if cricut is not cutting

Always insert the green/gold assembly in the middle groove area. Users mistakenly put it in the lower groove area, and this can be why the Cricut is not cutting.

If you install the assembly correctly, there will be no space between the bottom of the machine and the blade.

3. Determine why Cricut is not cutting using an assembly test

  1. Remove the blade and reinsert it slowly.
  2. While reinserting the blade, check how it enters. Make sure that the blade goes in naturally.
  3. If the blade is not inserted correctly, it would look like it does not fit or stick while going in.

4. Check blade height setting

Without additional external testing, you can confirm if the blade extends out of the green/gold blade assembly. If it does, then you need to adjust the blade height settings.

It is tough to estimate the correct height. So, change the blade height to around 6 (1 mm) and adjust it from there.

5. Determine why Cricut is not cutting using an arm buoyancy test

  1. Turn on the machine and flick the assembly arm gently.
  2. When flicking the assembly arm, see if it is bouncy or only goes up and down.
  3. Also, confirm that there were no obstructions when the arm is pushed down.

6. Adjust the sizes

  1. Increase the image size and retry.
  2. If there are texts, increase the font size and try again.adjusting font size can solve cricut not cutting
  3. Bolden the font.
  4. If you can afford to, delete the section of the design.

Images and texts may be too small to cut. Changing the size of the fonts and images can fix this issue of Cricut not cutting.

Several factors can be the reason for Cricut not cutting all the way through, and we have explored the solutions. Begin the troubleshooting with the tips in the first section, as these are sufficient for most cases.
