Arduino Serial Monitor is Not Working? 5 Tested Solutions

With Arduino, the Serial Monitor is a feature that can help in debugging sketches or controlling the device from your computer’s keyboard. Also, you can use the Serial Monitor to view data sent by a working sketch.

Sometimes the Serial Monitor just shows a blank page. Although, the Arduino sketch contains Serial.print() and Serial.println() functions, the text doesn’t appear in the serial monitor. To see the Serial Monitor, the Arduino must be connected by USB to your computer.

What can I do if the Arduino Serial Monitor isn’t working?

1. Verify the communication ports

Arduino and the Arduino IDE should be connected to the same communications port. Unplugging and plugging back the Arduino can switch the ports.

For a simple check, re-upload the sketch from the same IDE that you are using to open the Serial Monitor.

2. Match the band rate on the Serial Port

The Serial Monitor on the computer and the Serial Port on the Arduino must have the same data rate (baud rate).

Usually, the baud rate is 9600, so the programming statement is Serial.begin(9600). Set the same value for the Serial Monitor from the dropdown box in the lower-right corner.

3. Make sure the programming statements are being executed

The Serial.begin() and Serial.println() programming statements must be executed. Sometimes a branching statement, such as if and else, will cause these statements to be missed.

Also, if they are not being executed, the Serial Port will not function.

4. Check the statements for syntax errors

Examine the Serial.print() and Serial.println() statements for syntax errors. Since print and println are common among several programming languages, sometimes a usage that is valid in one doesn’t work with the Arduino.

5. Check the wiring

Inspect the wiring of any circuit connected to the Arduino. The digital pins 0 and 1 should not be used. Both are connected to the components on the Arduino that performs the serial text communication and may not be simultaneously used for something else.

To conclude, we hope that these indications were somewhat helpful to fix the Serial Monitor issue. Any feedback is welcome in the comments section below.

Raspberry Pi password not working? Try these solutions

Raspberry Pi is a great single-board computer, very compact, lightweight ad easy to use. But, like any other system, it has its drawbacks, namely a few frequent errors.

Among these, failure to recognize the password on the first boot or shortly after, as well as after ins. Sometimes, this happens at the first login: other times, after working fine with autologin for a while and the Pi asks again for credentials but won’t recognize the password.

If you happen to type it incorrectly, it will warn you. But if it fails to recognize it, it will just freeze.

What to do if the Raspberry Pi password is not working?

1. Modify the password file for new OS imagemodify password raspberry OS image

    1. Insert the SD card with the OS image in another device
    2. The card should contain a file named cmdline.txt
    3. Open it in Notepad (or other .txt file reader)
    4. Edit the text to have init=/bin/sh at the end. It should look like this:  dwc_otg.lpm_enable=0 console=serial0,115200 console=tty1 root=PARTUUID=04ceb741-02 rootfstype=ext4 elevator=deadline fsck.repair=yes rootwait init=/bin/sh
    5. Save and exit > Insert the SD card into the Raspberry Pi
    6. When prompted type: mount -o remount, rw / (and repeat if an error message appears)
    7. Type passwd pi
    8. Insert a new password
    9. Then type sync
    10. Type exec /sbin/init
    11. Save exit Raspberry Pi

Then put the card into the PC again and delete the init=/bin/sh combination you added. Save the changes and insert the card into the Raspberry Pi.

You should be able to use the new password.

2. Modify the password file for NOOBs

  1. Press Shift key while booting and the system will boot in the recovery mode
  2. Select your Raspbian image, and then click Edit config (e)
  3. Select the cmdline.txt tab and add the init=/bin/sh at the end as above
  4. Press OK and reboot
  5. When it stops, press Enter and where you see a line with #, type:reset password raspberry pi

You should be able to log in with the new password. Then do the process backward, to delete the init=/bin/sh line.

How to change the password after installing TightVNC server

Users sometimes encountered a login issue after installing a VNC server. The Pi boots, the user can log in via SSH, but then another login window pops up, where the Pi won’t accept the default credentials.

The tested solution is to go to the home directory, look for a file called .Xauthority and change the owner using the following command: chown pi:pi /home/pi/.Xauthority

What I should also pay attention to?modify password for raspberry noob

  1. Misspelling can oftentimes be the cause why the password gets rejected (like missing the p in raspberry)
  2. Linux is case-sensitive and only small letters should be used
  3. If you’re not using a qwerty keyboard, pay attention to the letters
  4. When typed, the password it is not visible on the screen (only appears as *******), so typos are again possible

We hope you found this guide helpful. If you did, or if you have any suggestions, don’t hesitate to use the comment section below.

How to effectively use the Not equal to operator in Arduino

Single-board microcontroller Arduino uses C/C++ programming language, which comprises sets of functions, values (variables and constants), and language structure elements.

The not equal to a structure is part of the comparison operators, alongside equal to, less than, less than or equal to, greater than, greater than or equal to. The graphic sign is !=.

How do I use not equal to with Arduino?

Not equal to is an element that compares one variable on the left with a value or variable on the right of the operator.

It returns true when the two operands are not equal.

The syntax is usually the following:

x != y; // is false if x is equal to y and it is true if x is not equal to y

What not equal to condition does is to say that if the current state doesn’t equal the previous state, then do this.arduino not equal

In the above example, you make a call for all values of x that are not equal to 2 to be printed in the Serial Monitor, with a delay of 500ms, to allow you to click the button.arduino not equal to results

It’s recommended to compare variables of the same data type including the signed/unsigned type. Comparing variables of different data types is possible, but it could generate unpredictable results.

Seeing the Arduino does not name a type error? Fix it easily

For programing fans, Arduino can be a great development platform that can be the starting point for many electronics projects and prototypes.

One of the common errors that Arduiono users stumble upon while compiling is an error message containing the syntagm no such file or directory or does not name a type.

Whenever you are getting this (and according to the forums, it is quite frequent), it means that the Arduino IDE can’t find the Adafruit libraries. The solution is to make sure that the file or folder has the right name and is in the right place.

What can I do to fix Arduino does not name a type error?

1. Download the library folder

Make sure to download the complete library for your specific folder from the available libraries in the Manage libraries menu. Use the download option and allow the folder to be compressed as .zip or .tar.gz.

Then look for the folder in the Downloads folder of your device and uncompress it.

2. Move the folder in the right place

After downloading the folder and its files, you should copy the library inside your Arduino folder.

The path of the file or folder should be:

Software/arduino-version number/libraries/library name/file.cpp OR file.c.

The structure of the library folder is very important and most of the time this is the cause for the mentioned errors.

Wrong paths:

Arduino/libraries/library name/library name/file.c

Arduino/libraries/MyLibraries/fodler name/file.c

On a Mac, the Arduino sketch folder is likely going to be called Documents/Arduino so you have to create the libraries folder and place the uncompressed library folder inside.

Then, make sure that the Documents/arduino/libraries/library contains the .cpp and .h files.

After you’ve done all this, close and reopen the Arduino IDE so that it recognizes the new library.

Hopefully, these indications have helped you to make the correct set-up for your libraries and it solves the issue. If you have any further ideas or comments, please level them in the dedicated section below.

Raspberry Pi not reading the SD card? Fix it in 2 easy steps

On the first boot, the Raspberry Pi needs an SD card with the OS mounted on it; otherwise, you can’t go any further.

Many Pi boards come with a microSD card with the NOOBS (New Out Of the Box Software) installer; of course, you can also have your own standalone image. Whichever method you use, it is recommended to use an 8GB for SD card or higher.

But what’s most important, is to use a reliable SD card manufacturer. Now, you might probably not know from the start whether you’ve picked the wrong one, but buying only from authorized suppliers and doing some research on recommended SD card brands for Pi might be helpful.

When booting, you will know that there’s a problem with the SD card if the red LED is blinking, while the green LED is not. Or, the green LED can blink regularly (3 to 8 times) to indicate that there’s a problem with the card.

How do I fix the Raspberry Pi SD card issues?

1. Mount a fresh OS image

  1. Format the SD card in another PC, using SDFormatter. (If the formatting fails, the card is broken.)
  2. Get a clean OS or image from here.
  3. Save and insert the card in your Raspberry Pi to see if it works.

This is the standard recommended solution to fix a faulty microSD card. However, users complained that the Pi fails to recognize the card all too frequently and that they have to re-install a fresh image over and over again.

It is very frustrating, which is why the next solution might be helpful, but only after a first successful first boot: namely to make a read-only copy of the OS on a USD stick or another media device.

2. Make a read-only copy of the SD cardread-only copy of sd card for raspberry pi

  1. Copy the Raspberry image to your SD card.
  2. Boot normally from the card, but don’t Expand filesystem. Set up time zone and international settings.
  3. Run sudo fdisk/ dev/mmcblk0 and press p to print the current partition table.
  4. Then enter the following commands:correct corrupted sd card
  5. Modify the /etc/fstab  as follows:how to fix sd card for raspberry
  6. Run sudo partprobe to recognize the partition.
  7. Format the new partition with sudo mkfs –type ext4 /dev/mmcblk0p3
  8. Reboot.

If you then need to make changes to the system, you can remount the read-only partitions with write access sudo mount -o remount, rw /dev/mmcblk0p2 .

Additional info

  1. Users have reported that their SD card was functional when inserted into another Raspberry Pi board – usually an older version than the one that didn’t boot. In the end, they solved the problem with a new card.
  2. Sometimes, just taking the SD card out and rebooting can fix the issue.
  3. It was also mentioned that the plastic holder of the SD card might have been the problem since some Pi version is very picky about these details.

We would like to have your intake on this matter, so drop us a line with any other solutions that you might have, in the comments section below.

Microsoft releases Windows 10 Insider build 19631 and ARM64 VHDX

Microsoft has released today the Windows 10 Insider build 19631 for Windows Insiders in the Fast Ring, which is another minor update with no new features. Highlights include Windows Hello improvements and a fix for an issue preventing devices in connected stand by to wake up after a key press.

You can check out the full list of changes and known issues below:

General changes & improvements

  • We updated the configuration of Windows Hello to make sure it works well with 940nm wavelength cameras.

Fixes

  • We fixed the issue causing the IIS configuration being set to default after taking a new build.
  • We fixed an issue that could result in a key press not waking up a device from connected standby in certain scenarios.
  • Windows Sandbox WSB files are now case insensitive.
  • We fixed an issue impacting Remote Desktop reliability.

Known issues

  • We’re looking into an issue where some devices booting from eMMC storage may bugcheck when resuming from hibernate.
  • We’re looking into reports of the update process hanging for extended periods of time when attempting to install a new build.
  • We’re working on fixing an issue for a future Insider Preview build where in Settings > Privacy the Documents and Downloads sections show a broken icon next to their page name (just a rectangle).
  • We’re looking into reports that taskbar preview thumbnails aren’t rendering consistently (showing a blank area).

In addition to this new Windows 10 preview build, the Windows Insider team also made ARM64 VHDX available for download, which will allow Insiders with Windows 10 on ARM devices to run the Windows 10 Insider build 19624 as a guest host in Hyper-V. Microsoft previously added in the build 19559 from February the ability to install Hyper-V on Windows 10 on ARM devices such as Microsoft’s Surface Pro X. “We will regularly release updated VHDX downloads for newer Insider Preview builds going forward,” the team said today.

Even though Microsoft held its Build 2020 developer conference this week, there’s still no word about the 20H2 update coming later this year, or the 21H1 update to be released in the first half of 2021. Microsoft shared its plans for the 19H2 update right after the spring last year, so we may have to wait a bit more to get some information about future Windows 10 releases.

Get in on the ground floor of Obsidian’s Grounded, join early demo on Xbox One and Steam on June 9

Obsidian Entertainment, one of the new game studios that Microsoft acquired two years ago, revealed a new IP named Grounded at X019 last fall. Before the survival adventure game will enter Xbox Game Preview and Steam Early Access on July 28, Obsidian revealed today that there will be a limited-time early demo on Xbox One and PC from June 9 through June 14.

This first demo will give players “a look at one day in the life of Grounded’s single player campaign,” according to the developer. Grounded is a first-person survival game where players have been shrunk to the size of an ant living in a suburban backyard. The game will support co-op with up to three other players, and Obsidian is working on story-based missions to complement survival activities.

To join this first Grounded flight on June 9, Xbox One gamers will need to sign up for the Xbox Insider Program and register for the demo through the Xbox Insider Hub. Slots on Xbox One will be limited, but the Steam demo for PC players will be available for everyone on June 9. Grounded is actually one of the games that will participate in the Steam Game Festival, which is Valve’s celebration of new games to be released within the next year.

“We’re excited to have you start this journey with us and get into the game, as it is important to us to get your feedback. Having both the Xbox Insider and Steam demos line up at the same time means we can hear from as many of you as possible before the game enters Xbox Game Preview with Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and Steam Early Access on July 28,” wrote, Mikey Dowling, Director of Communications, Obsidian Entertainment.

Source code for Windows NT 3.5 and the original Xbox has leaked

The source code for Windows NT 3.5 and the original Xbox console have leaked online earlier this month, according to a report from The Verge. A Microsoft spokesperson told the publication that “We’re aware of these reports and are investigating,” without sharing further details.

For those unfamiliar with Windows NT, the version 3.5 of the desktop OS was released back in 1994, following the initial 3.1 version released a year earlier. During the nineties, the Windows NT family of desktop OSes lived alongside the consumer-oriented Windows 9x family based on MS-DOS, but NT was finally brought to the masses in 2001 with Windows XP. According to The Verge, what leaked is a near-final version of the OS that “includes all the necessary build tools, and should allow enthusiasts to dig into the old operating system.”

As for the Xbox OS leak, it appears that some of the code could have been circulating for quite some time. “While the Xbox OS leak includes some build environments, the Xbox Development Kit, emulators used for testing, and internal documents, we understand this kernel and source code has been passed around privately among enthusiasts previously. That means it’s unlikely to help further homebrew and emulator efforts for original Xbox games,” the report reads.

Even though these leaks are about decades-old code, we expect Microsoft to do what’s necessary to protect its intellectual property. However, many enthusiasts would like the company to make its old code open source. Following the end of support for Windows 7 back in January, the Free Software Foundation publicly asked Microsoft to make the still-popular OS an open-source project.

How to remove someone from a team in Microsoft Teams

Adding people to a team in Microsoft Teams is how you kick off the right conversations and make sure you can keep your employees in their workflow. But, what happens if you added someone to the wrong team? Perhaps you might have accidentally added someone to a team who doesn’t belong — say a regular employee in a team that is designed only for managers.

No need to worry, though. If you’re a team owner, you can remove someone from your team at any time. The process is quick and easy. Here’s how to remove someone from a team in Microsoft Teams.

To get started, you’ll want to make sure your IT admin has set you as a team owner. If you’re not a team owner, you can’t remove anyone from a team. This is for obvious reasons, security as number one. You can ask your IT admin or the person who manages Microsoft Teams to check the Teams admin center to assign the team roles if you want to remove someone from a team.

If you have the right permission, you can begin the process of removing someone from a team by clicking the team name in the sidebar of Microsoft Teams. You can then click More Options … followed by Manage Team and then Members. From there, you’ll see a team member list. You can click the X to the far-right side of the name of the person you want to remove. Just keep in mind that if you want to remove a team owner, you’ll have to go in and change their role from owner to a member, first. You always can change the roles back later, too.

Please keep in mind that while you’re removing someone from a team, you’re not removing them entirely from the organization. They’ll still have access to Teams, Office, and the other parts of your subscription. That privilege is rather reserved for admins, and they need to do this via the Microsoft 365 dashboard.

As you can tell, the process of removing someone from a Team is quite easy. Microsoft makes it quite easy. If you’re looking for additional Teams coverage, check out our news hub for more how-tos, guides, tours, and more.

Alan Wake and Cities: Skyline join Xbox Game Pass today, with Minecraft Dungeons to follow next week

Microsoft’s Xbox Game Pass subscription service is welcoming two new games today with the survival horror game Alan Wake and the city-building game Cities: Skyline. Both titles are available today on Console and PC, and they will be followed by Minecraft Dungeons next week r on May 27.

For those unfamiliar, Alan Wake is a cult-classic game from Remedy Entertainment (Max Payne, Quantum Break). It was released as an Xbox 360 exclusive back in 2010, and the PC version following two years later. Unfortunately, Remedy didn’t add Xbox Live achievements to the PC version of the game that’s now available for Xbox Game Pass for PC members.

As for Cities: Skyline, the game is actually coming back to Xbox Game Pass for Console and PC today after leaving the catalog back in March 2020. This isn’t the first time that we see games return to Xbox Game Pass catalog after some time, but if you haven’t tried it yet, Cities: Skyline is a great alternative to the popular Sim City series.

Next week, Minecraft Dungeons will be the next Xbox Game Studios title to launch on Xbox Game Pass on day one on May 27, and as Minecraft sales recently crossed 200 million sales worldwide, the much-anticipated dungeons crawler definitely has some potential. Stay tuned for our review of the game that will be published early next week.

The Netflix error code f7121-1331-p7 occurs when there is an issue with your web browser. Netflix has documented the error in its resource guide with some troubleshooting tips to resolve the error.

The error can occur if you are using a browser that is not compatible with the Netflix player that is used to play TV shows and movies.

1. Check your browser for compatibility

Netflix supports all the major web browsers, including Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, Opera, and Mozilla Firefox.

Make sure you have the latest version of Chrome, Firefox, Edge, or Opera browser installed.

Additionally, also make sure your browser supports and has enabled HTML5. You can check if your browser supports HTML 5 by visiting the YouTube HTML 5 detector.

FIX: CBS All Access errors uvp-1011, uvp-1004, and uvp-1001

CBS All Access streaming service sells in two paid plans – monthly and annually -, at prices starting from $5.99/month.

Though considerably cheaper compared to its competitors Hulu, Netflix, or Amazon Prime, CBS All Acces subscribers are constantly complaining about frequent loading errors, and constant crashes during most of the programs.

We’ll list here three of the most common streaming errors and their solutions. The on-screen message is vague (An error has occurred. Please try again later), plus an error code,  but most of the time, the errors can be fixed by the users.

2. Shut down your devicecbs all access errors

Switch off your device (including modem and router) and fully unplug them. Wait a few minutes, then plug them back in. Switch them back on and re-launch the app.

FIX: Sling TV too many devices error

Sling TV is a subscription-based on-demand streaming service available only in the US. It sells in two separate packages, Orange and Blue, respectively.

Despite the fact that the two packages have the same price, there are differences when it comes to the number of channels available, and the number of devices that can stream simultaneously.

While with the Slim TV Blue plan you can have up to 3 simultaneous streams, with the Orange plan, you can have only one.

When the app detects too many concurrent devices it will notify you that Playback has stopped because content is being viewed on another device.

Naturally, to avoid the playback error message mentioned before, the safest is to make sure that only the allowed number devices that can connect to a certain program simultaneously.

To prevent this, make sure that you’re signed out of and closed the Sling TV app on other devices than the one you’re using the app for streaming purposes.

Signing out is intuitive: just open the main Sling TV menu, go to Settings, then toAccount and Sign Out.

There’s one more particularity that is not often mentioned, but still can cause issues, as suggested by the support team from Sling TV’s competitor, Hulu.

Namely, sometimes users employ their Facebook account to sign in to other services as well.

If this is the case with your Smart TV account, the app might recognize your profile as already logged in; just make sure to sign out of Facebook as well so as not the be kicked out.

In the end, if you think that you never get enough simultaneous streams, you can sign up for both Slim TV packages, to benefit from all four available slots.

The error was reported by iOS users who mentioned that the app kept crashing.

How to avoid error MUBI code 915?fix mubi error 915

First of all, when experiencing video streaming issues, it is advisable to make sure that your device meets the minimum systems requirements in order to work properly.

As it is, preferable browsers with MUBI are the latest versions of Chrome, Firefox, Safari, and Internet Explorer/Edge on Mac & PC. Linux users must use Chrome.

As mentioned, supported devices include iOS or Android smartphones and tablets, plus smart TVs (Sony, Samsung, LG, android tv), games consoles (PS3, pS4, Nvidia Shield), and media players (Roku, Amazon Fire TV, Chromecast and AppleTV).avoid mubi error 915

Recommended Internet speed should be at least 10 Mbps of bandwidth and network latency under 100 ms.

Secondly, for a seamless experience, both the device and the app will constantly notify you to update to the latest version.

Note that when the app detects an outdated version of the operating system, it might request an update, which will in turn cause your device to crash and display error code 915.

MUBI acknowledged this and is trying to improve its service by launching updated versions that work on older operating system versions as well.
