Microsoft announced a big update to improve the shared calendar experience in Outlook for Windows back in July 2019. After being in preview for almost two years, these shared calendar improvements are now rolling out to all Outlook users on Windows.
Microsoft says that this update significantly improves the reliability and sync latency for both shared and delegated calendars in Outlook for Windows. Previously, the shared calendar recipient had to wait a couple of mins to see the new changes, and there was also a slight delay in the calendar’s loading time.
The company has now addressed these issues, as the calendar should instantly appear upon selection, and all the changes will now immediately sync for everyone in the shared calendar. The new shared calendar experience is now available on all major platforms, including the new Outlook for Mac, Outlook for Windows, Outlook on the web, as well as Outlook for iOS and Android.
Microsoft noted that it’s a major update to Outlook for Windows since 1997, and the company has incorporated user feedback to eliminates the issues. “Since summer 2019, we polished the experience and fixed bugs, thanks to many customer reports. With tens of thousands of daily users on the preview, we feel confident now that the experience is going to delight calendar delegates.” the Exchange team explained.

6. Enforce the dedicated graphics and disable Vsync

Even though the dedicated GPU should, by default, take over from the integrated graphics when the game starts, this transition causes glitches.
Obviously, the loading of the game is disrupted, and stuttering is a possibility.
You can enforce the dedicated Nvidia or ATI graphic in two ways. The first option is applicable through the GPU’s control panel. There you should also globally disable Vsync.
The second is right-clicking on the game’s shortcut and selecting the high-performance graphics from the contextual menu. Just select Run with graphics processor and choose the dedicated card out of the two.
Close the game and the Origins client and restart your PC.
Navigate to the following folder: C:\Users\Your Username\Documents\Electronic Arts\Sims4
Cut the Mods folderand paste it on the desktop.
Start the game and check whether the white screen occurs.
Mods are a vital part of The Sims 4 experience. However, some of them might cause issues with the game’s performance.
They also tend to get corrupt but unfortunately, they can’t be repaired with the Origin’s built-in tool.

On the other side, Microsoft is not addressing it as it should. So, we’ll try and clear things up with this article.
How to fix Windows 10 Update error 0x8024a10a
Windows update error 0x8024a10a can prevent you from installing the latest updates, and that can be a security concern. Speaking of this error, here are some similar issues users reported:

Solution 1 – Disable Your Antivirus

To fix the problem, it’s advised to disable certain antivirus features and check if that helps. If that doesn’t work, your next step would be to disable your antivirus altogether.
Even if you decide to do that, you’ll still be protected by Windows Defender, so you don’t have to worry about your safety.
If the error code still appears, you might have to remove your antivirus to solve this problem. If removing the antivirus fixes the issue, it might be a good time to consider switching to a different antivirus solution with maximum protection that won’t interfere with your system.
Additionally, it is a good idea to disable your VPN while updating.
Solution 2 – Perform the System File Checker
System File Checker (SFC) is the built-in tool that helps you scan and repair various system files. Mostly due to virus infections, your files may get corrupted or incomplete.
If the update worked well before, and then stopped for no apparent reason, SFC may be just the tool for the job. You can use System File Checker this way:
Press Windows key + X and run Command Prompt (Admin).
In the command line, type sfc/scannow
The process should last for approximately 5 minutes.
After it’s done, restart your PC and try updating again.
If the SFC scan was unsuccessful, you might want to try using a DISM scan instead. DISM is an acronym for Deployment Image Servicing and Management.
The main task of the DISM is to scan and fix corrupted files related to Windows Update. To use DISM, just follow these steps:
Press Windows key + X and start Command Prompt (Admin).
In the command line type following command: DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth
In case the DISM can’t obtain files online, try using your installation USB or DVD. Insert media and type following command:
Be sure to replace ”C:RepairSourceWindows” path of your DVD or USB.
The operation should last no more than 5 minutes.
Once the DISM scan is finished, check if the problem is still there. If the issue persists, or if you were unable to run SFC scan before, repeat the SFC scan and check if that helps.
Solution 3 – Try starting PC in the Clean Boot mode
Sometimes third-party applications can interfere with your system and cause update error 0x8024a10a to appear.
Certain applications and services can start automatically with your PC and cause this issue to appear, and in order to fix the problem, you need to perform Clean boot.
This is rather simple, and you can do it by following these steps:
Press Windows Key + R and enter msconfig. Press Enter or click OK.
Go to Services tab and check Hide all Microsoft services box. Then click Disable All and press Apply.
Go to Startup tab and click Open Task Manager.
Disable all Startup programs individually and press OK.
Restart your PC and try updating.
If the problem is persistent, you can move to the final step. Additionally, If you are keen to retrieve past configuration, you can do it easily by returning to System Configuration and Task Manager respectively.
Just enable disabled processes and you are good to go.
Solution 4 – Reset Windows Update components

Sometimes issues with services can be resolved simply by restarting them, but there are multiple services related to Windows Update, so restarting them all by hand can be a time-consuming task.

Solution 5 – Run Windows Update troubleshooter
Windows comes with various tools called troubleshooters that can fix common PC problems. Several users reported that they fixed error 0x8024a10a simply by using Windows Update troubleshooter.

In the left pane, select Troubleshoot. Select Windows Update from the right pane and click Run the troubleshooter button.

5. Perform an SFC and DISM scans
If you’re getting Recycle Bin file association error on your PC, the problem might be caused by a corrupted Windows installation. This can occur for various reasons, but you might be able to fix the corrupted installation simply by doing the following:
Start Command Prompt as an administrator.
When Command Prompt opens, enter sfc /scannow and press Enter to run it.
The SFC scan will now start. The scanning process can take about 10 to 15 minutes, so don’t interfere with it in any way.
After the scanning process is finished, check if the issue is still there. Some users reported that the SFC scan didn’t fix the problem for them. If that’s the case, you need to perform a DISM scan by doing the following:
Start Command Prompt as an administrator.
Now enter the DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth command and press Enter to run it.
DISM scan will now start. Keep in mind that this scan can take about 20 minutes, so don’t interfere with it.
After completing both scans, check if the problem is still there. In addition, you might want to repeat the SFC after the DISM scan if you weren’t able to run it before.
6. Enter Safe Mode
If you keep having Recycle Bin association error on your PC, you might be able to fix the problem by accessing the Safe Mode. To do that, just follow these steps:
Open the Settings app and head over to the Update & Security section.
Select Recovery from the menu on the left. Now click the Restart now button in the right pane.

Launch Eudora and go to Tools.
Click on Options > Ports. By default, the port is set to 25, make sure you enter correct Port for your provider.
Check Allow authentication option under the SMTP server section.
Next, you need to modify the deudora.ini file and disable CRAM-MD5. Here is how to do it.
Go to C:ProgramFiles(x86) QualcommEudora (64-bit Windows) or C:ProgramFilesQualcommEudora (32-bit Windows)
Locate a file named deudora.ini. Double-click to open the file in Notepad.
Add the following line of code before the [Settings] line.
SmtpAuthBanished=CRAM-MD5
Press Ctrl + S to save the file and close it.
Launch Eudora and check if the authentication problem is resolved.
If you’re still having Eudora authentication failederror, try a different combination of ports that are available for your email server.
Launch Eudora and go Options > Port.
Check use submission port (587). Under Secure socket when sending, select Required STARTTLS.
Test for any improvement. If none, follow the next step.
Uncheck Use submission port (587). Under Secure sockets when sending, select Never. Try again to see if the mail client works. It not, follow the next step.
Make sure that the Use submission port (587) is unchecked. Select Required, alternate port option.
3. Diagnose port blocking
If a security program installed on your computer is blocking the ports from creating a connection with the mail server, then disabling the security programs such as firewall and antivirus can do the trick.
However, to know if the program is blocking the ports, you can start the terminal and run telnet.
Press Windows Key + R. Type cmd and hit Enter.
In the command prompt, enter the following command and hit enter:
telnet smtp.gn.apc.org 25
If you see the message 220 mail.gn.apc.org ESMTP Postfix [ NO UBE C=GB ] You are neither permitted nor authorized to transmit unsolicited bulk email (spam) using this server, it means the ports are working fine.
If you don’t see the message, follow the next solution to disable security programs on your computer.
Note: Telnet might be disabled by default on the newer version of Windows, including Windows 10.
If you get Telnet is not recognized as an internal or external command message here is how to enable Telnet on Windows 7 and above PCs.

Keep in mind that this modification will also apply to the users that are currently running the Windows 10 October 2020 update.
Starting in July 2021, if you have your activity history synced across your devices through your Microsoft account (MSA), you’ll no longer have the option to upload new activity in Timeline. You’ll still be able to use Timeline and see your activity history (information about recent apps, websites, and files) on your local device.
Some accounts will still be able to use the feature
Even though the this cross-sync feature will no longer be available to the general public, Microsoft announced that they are not planning to remove the Timeline interface from Windows 10 completely.
Timeline will still be a working integration for the users with AAD (Automated Application Development) accounts.

The Power Platform team worked closely with the Azure AI team to fine tune a GPT-3 model using Azure Machine Learning that could translate between natural language and Power Fx expressions. Microsoft plans to infuse Power Fx into other tools within Power Platform, as the company plans to expand natural language features by GPT-3 into those products as well.

New phishing scheme discovered via Steam
According to the Reddit post submitted today by one of the users, a simple action that he was asked to perform on Steam for a fellow gamer, almost resulted in him losing his account.
Trying not to arouse any suspicions, the innocent request urged the user to just vote for a gaming team. When trying to do so though, what he discovered was a bigger surprise than he expected.
However, in order to perform this action, you have to use Steam OAuth to log in, which is pretty much a common thing among verified websites.
The trick was that, after you clicked on Sign in via Steam, another virtual popup window would open inside the original tab.
This gives most users the impression that they are using the correct steam URL and that it’s completely safe to input the credentials.
Because the Valve corporation name and icon, as well as other elements of the original website’s UI are present, it becomes easier to trick the unsuspecting into providing personal information.
What surprised me was the quality of trick!
2FA data sent to the attackers
The post author on Reddit continues to explain that, in case anyone went through with this sign up process, the loss of the Steam account would be almost a certain thing.
If users had the 2FA option enabled, actually inputting the security code that they received on their phone, could lead to total account takeover, as they would have all the information they need.
Although the Steam platform isn’t commonly used to perform such schemes, its not uncommon. Malicious third parties will never stop concocting new ways to trick you out of your possesions.
So, what we can learn from this situation is that we should never provide our personal information to any suspicious or unverified websites.
Using the latest antivirus software can save us the trouble of having to restore potential damage caused by all sorts of malintent, or try and recuperate lost data.
Always make sure to keep track of where you choose to make such precious information available, in order to avoid data loss or other leaks.

This time, we’re going to talk about the annoying screen dimming problem on Surface Pro 4, and how to (try to) solve it.

Surface Pro 4 screen brightness keeps changing – It’s possible for the Surface Pro 4’s screen to keep changing brightness without your permission. In fact, it’s actually a common issue.

How do I fix the screen dimming issue on the Surface Pro 4?
Go to Search, type power, and open Power & sleep settings.
Now click on Advanced power settings.
Next to your selected power plan, tap or click on Change plan settings.
Now, go to Change advanced power settings.
Expand Display and expand Enable adaptive brightness.
Now set both On battery and Plugged in to off.
Click OK.
Adaptive brightness is a tricky thing. This feature can be extremely useful, in terms of saving power, but sometimes, it can also be troublesome.
In case you don’t know how this feature works, adaptive brightness scans your surroundings and automatically sets your screen brightness based on a level of lightness around you.
As we said, adaptive brightness can go wild sometimes, causing various issues on a device, including the screen dimming problem.
So, if you’re facing the screen problem, you should try disabling the adaptive brightness feature, and see if the issue is resolved.
Once you disable the adaptive brightness feature, the problem with screen dimming on your Surface Pro 4 device will hopefully be solved.
However, if the issue is still present after disabling adaptive brightness, try the solution from below.
2. Disable the Intel graphics features
Go to Search, type regedit, and open Registry Editor.
Go to the following path: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMControlSet001ControlClass{4d36e968-e325-11ce-bfc1-08002be10318}000]
Now, open the DWORD called FeatureTestControl, and change its value from 9a40 to 9a50.
Restart your computer.
Another feature that’s similar to adaptive brightness can cause your Surface Pro 4’s screen to dim.
That feature is Intel’s Display Power Saving Technology or DPST, which adjusts your screen brightness based on how dark or light the content on the screen is.
So, adaptive brightness scans your surroundings to adjust brightness, and DPST scans what’s actually on the screen.
Of course, the solution is to turn DPST off, as well, but that won’t be as easy as disabling adaptive brightness.
Some older PCs have the option to disable DPST via Intel’s driver configuration software, but unfortunately, that software is not available on the Surface line of tablets.
So, it’s impossible to legitimately disable this feature on your Surface Pro 4. However, there’s an alternative way of doing that, by using one registry tweak.
So, if you want to disable Intel Display Power Saving Technology on your Surface Pro 4, perform the steps above.
Once you perform this action, Intel’s DPST will be disabled, and potential screen dimming issues will be solved.
3. Check for updates, and make sure your drivers are up to date
Microsoft releases new updates for devices from its Surface line quite often. So, there’s a chance that Microsoft or Intel pushed a new update for the Surface Pro 4 before you found this article.
Just in case, head over to Settings, select Updates & Security, and check for updates.
The same thing applies to your Surface Pro 4’s graphics card. Go to the Device manager, and check if a new version of a graphics driver for your device is available.
Update drivers automatically
It is very important to choose the right driver versions from the manufacturer’s website. In case you choose and install the wrong one, this will not only be an issue for the GPU but may harm all your system.
The tool recommended below is safe, quick, and it will update all your drivers automatically in a single action with no effort from your part.
Go to Search, type devicemngr, and go to Device Manager.
Under Display adapters, right-click your graphics card, and go to Properties.
Head over to the Drivertab.
Click Roll back driver, and follow further on-screen instructions.
Restart your computer.
Contrary to the previous solution, the newest driver may actually do more harm than good. If it doesn’t compliment the other drivers, there could be problems.
In that case, the best decision is to just roll back to an older, working version of the driver.
NOTE
Note:If the Roll back driver option is grayed out, that means there’s no previous driver available. In that case head over to Microsoft’s website, and look for some older drivers for your Surface Pro 4.
5. Set the DPI size
Go to Settings.
Head over to System and select Display.
Now, go to Custom scaling, and you’ll see a screen like this:
Now, choose one of these three options and save the changes:
Smaller – 100% = 96 DPI (Pixels/Dots Per Inch)
Medium – 125% = 120 DPI (Pixels/Dots Per Inch)
Larger – 150% = 144 DPI (Pixels/Dots Per Inch)
Adjusting DPI (dots per inch) can also play a role in resolving screen problems on Windows laptops or PCs. This option should be set to the best settings. However, there could be some interference.
6. Update Windows
As it’s the case with all Windows-related products, Microsoft delivers updates for the Surface Pro 4 through Windows Update.
So, make sure to always keep your device up to date, because there could be some important updates you can’t afford to miss. And by important updates, we think patches and hotfixes for problems like this one.
To check for new updates, simply go to Settings, select Updates & Security, and check for updates.
7. Remove the latest Windows update
Go to Settings.
Head over to Updates & Security and click on Windows Update.
Go to Update history and Uninstall updates.
Now, find the latest update installed on your computer (you can sort updates by date), right-click it, and go to Uninstall.
Restart your computer.
Contrary to the previous solution, it’s also possible that the very update you just installed caused the screen dimming problem on your Surface Pro 4.
Because, well, Microsoft’s updates aren’t always that perfect. To uninstall the previously installed Windows 10 update, follow the instructions above.
8. Change the refresh rate
Go to Settings.
Now, head over to System, select Display, and then Display Adapter Properties.
Go to the Monitor tab.
Make sure the Screen refresh rate is set to 60 Hz.
And finally, the last thing we’re going to try is changing the display refresh rate. Although this shouldn’t directly affect the screen, you can try it if none of the previous solutions worked.

Microsoft is turning its dual-screen Surface Duo into a much better handheld device for Xbox Cloud gaming. Indeed, Microsoft has updated its Xbox Game Pass app for Android to improve support for custom touch controls on dual screen devices, with Surface Duo owners now being able to use one of the screens as a controller.
These improved dual-screen controls for cloud-enabled Xbox games have been available in the Xbox Game Pass Beta app for Android since March, but they’re now generally available for owners of dual-screen devices.. Microsoft’s Chief Hardware Officer Panos Panay himself announced the news on Twitter earlier today, highlighting that over 50 cloud-enabled games currently support touch controls.

Touch controls are probably not as precise and convenient as an Xbox controller, though Microsoft now allows developers to create custom touch controls for every cloud-enabled Xbox game. This can really help to make console games feel more “native” on mobile devices, and the Surface Duo’s dual-screen form factor probably makes it one of the best handheld devices for playing Xbox games.
If you own a Surface Duo and want to try playing Xbox games on it, you’ll need to sign up for Xbox Game Pass Ultimate to get access to a growing catalog of cloud-enabled games. Not all of them support touch controls yet, but games like Minecraft Dungeons, Sea of Thieves, Gears 5, Slay the Spire, and many more already do.
Buying a new monitor can be a tricky task. There are a lot of things you need to think about, be it size, display resolution, or even the type of panel being used on the display. Then, on the other end of the spectrum (at your job) your IT admin has to think about what’s right for the ever-changing needs of yourself and the rest of the workforce.
With Dell recently claiming that 69% of IT admins are expected to increase their budgets for meeting room technologies, I had a lot of questions about the best advice for choosing monitors and even webcams, too. To get those questions answered, I was offered the chance to sit down on a Teams call with Dell Displays product manager Mike Turner. Here’s an inside look at our discussion.
What’s your advice about picking the right monitor?
One of the first questions I had for Turner is the best advice for choosing a new monitor. After all, with the pandemic driving the work-from-home numbers to new levels, monitor sales are on the boom. There are also a lot of different monitors you can buy, from affordable to ultrawide and even gaming.
I’ve already reviewed a bunch of Dells, and Dell has an entire catalog of displays available on its website, too. He tells me that monitor choices all come down to how the monitor will be used holistically in the workforce or at home.
“What I mean by that is if this is a hybrid device, then be thoughtful about how this device will work in that environment. Consider the different types of roles it could play,” said Turner.
Turner and I then went on to discuss some of the other things that go into picking a monitor. He tells me it’s all about the types of PCs it will be connected to, the type of work done on it, or if it’s a mix of productivity and gaming.
Funny enough, he pointed to a scenario I’m familiar with. He mentioned that someone who might be crunching spreadsheets or writing by day might also be a gamer by night. These folks might want to consider things like support for AMD FreeSync or Nvidia G-Sync when choosing a monitor.
But on the other end of the story, for IT admins, Turner tells me that Dell uses data to check on purchase decisions. He thinks people really should consider the size and the resolution together when choosing a monitor, rather than independently.
“I am going to think about the size and the resolution. 27 inch full HD could be great for me. Things look a little bigger than on a 22 or 24 inch full HD. I can see it clearly and because I can see it clearly the technology blends into the background. It becomes unobtrusive. My experience is focused on the work rather than how I’m looking at it,” said Turner.
Other factors that go into monitors include the quality of the visuals. For creatives who prefer the best visual quality, Dell’s UltraSharp monitors are best for their deeper color panels and brighter illumination. It’s something that Turner himself takes personally.
“I got three kids now and they’re almost out of the nest. I like to be able to really see my kids looking like they look in real life on the screen. I get a little bit more color, and I can appreciate the color I took in the photo more on the Ultrasharp,” said Turner.
Which webcam works best with monitors or laptops?
I recently reviewed the Dell 27 Video Conferencing Monitor, and part of the reason I loved it had to do with the webcam. With a wide-angle lens and 5-megapixel sensors, it was quite a pleasure to use with Teams, Skype, Zoom, and beyond.
However, not all monitors come with webcams built-in. Sometimes, people are seeking to buy separate webcams for laptops or displays so they can make the most out of video conferencing. That’s why my second question for Turner related to picking the right webcam. According to Turner, the number one pro tip about using webcams relates to lighting.
“I have three different cameras that I use. I have a small LED light, I have that mounted directly behind the camera so that the light source is seeing me from the same angle as the camera. I want to communicate visually, which is a big thing about collaboration is reading facial expressions, and if I have your interest,” said Turner.
Other than illumination, Turner also says you need to think about how you want to join meetings, and if they’re pre-recorded or live. This can shape the resolution you end up selecting. Interestingly enough, he went as far as to mention that your internet speed can impact your webcam performance.
“I’ve done testing with all different kinds of sensors and Teams and Zoom and I can tell you that you can have a 25-megapixel sensor, and your upload speeds could throttle you down to 645 by 360 or something like that in terms of resolution, so I’ll think about my internet connection as well as the camera,” said Turner.
Other ways of picking a webcam can include how easy it is to use, how easy it is to set up, according to Tuner. This is why many webcams are plug-and-play, without the need for software or CDs.
How are meeting spaces changing due to the pandemic?
With webcams and displays understood, my conversation with Turner took a turn to focus on the workforce itself. A lot of meeting spaces are changing because of the pandemic, and some companies are adopting hybrid work from home and in-person scenarios.
According to Dell, IT admins also want technology that drives a seamless experience in the meeting space. Basically, they’re looking for a fast and fluid experience. However, Dell’s research shows that when it comes to conference rooms and other shared spaces, it is a big struggle to find an intuitive, uncomplicated experience.
On this matter, Turner tells me that there are different elements to think about. The first is the fact that there always have been people who weren’t in a company’s main office. The second is making sure that people who are not in the same geography as the office, feel just as included with those who are. A third is a need for smaller conference rooms that hold fewer people. Turner explained that this is something going in at Dell.
“So in our example at Dell, we have different offices around the country and around the world and you’ve always been kind of working with people in other offices, right?” But now more and more people are not going to return to a traditional working environment or at least not return full-time So people will spend more time not being in the same physical space,” said Turner.
As a solution to this problem, Turner says is that you need a camera so everyone can see each other, and remember what everyone looks like, with a chance to connect and see what they’re doing and using their hands. “Using gear with the camera is going to be big, whether it’s in the conference room, or people are together or it’s at the individual endpoints.”
When it comes to conference rooms, meanwhile, Turner surprised me with something I did not expect. He says that instead of having large conference rooms that can hold 25 people, many of Dell’s customers now want smaller rooms that can hold 5. “It is not about the rooms being smaller, but it’s more about more places for people to collaborate, as it’s unlikely everyone will be in the same place again,” said Turner.
How do Slack/Teams fit in with new monitors?
The Dell 27 video conferencing monitor was designed with the conference room in mind, so I was curious what else Dell thinks about when it comes to the boom of Zoom and Teams. Turner says that Dell is always thinking about how the monitor or the device is going to work with Teams, Zoom, Slack, and other software.
“We’re not really wanting to tell folks the strategy you’ve got to follow. We want to look at global companies and say, you’ve got a reason for what you’re done, and we just want to support you and make sure that we are.”
Indeed, a good example of this is the Teams certified hardware. As I said in my review, it works with whatever software you want it with, because the camera, speaker, and microphone enumerate as standard USB devices.
“I think that we found a great way to straddle the line of the ability to provide a great solution for teams well at the same time acknowledging that people are going to run all kinds of stuff,” said Turner.
Dell is always listening
Our conversation ended with a look at how Dell takes feedback into consideration and how it’s building new products. Turner tells me that there’s a lot of ways in which this happens. There’s a process by which IT purchasers can opt into an IT administrator pool and answer questions about the needs of an enterprise.
There’s also a customer advisory council. Here is where customers come in to meet with the design and user experiences team to see Dell’s vision for the next three years and then take their feedback.
The other two pieces of the critical feedback puzzle include a sales advisory board, and social media listening posts. It’s here where people through Dell comb through your feedback. Even Turner does his part.
“I’m on the call with customers probably 15 or 20 hours right, so I’m literally talking to big customers for 30 minutes an hour two hours at a time about what do you want? What? You need what do we get right what could we improve what could we change how are you using this and so those interactions? I’m just one person multiply that by you know, all the people around the world and we’re getting that feedback.”
The built-in password manager in Microsoft Edge is getting a new update that should help users stay protected online. As spotted by Reddit user u/Leopeva64-2, the improved password manager is now available as a preview feature to Edge Insiders in the latest Canary channel build (92.0.895.0 or higher).
The company has recently added a new feature to its Microsoft Edge Insider roadmap to indicate that the browser will soon warn users about weak or reused passwords. “Beginning in Microsoft Edge v.91, we will give feedback to you on which of your passwords are weak and/or reused across accounts. This will allow you to stay informed about your security on the web,” Microsoft explained on the roadmap.
