Microsoft gives “valued customers” the opportunity to purchase an Xbox Series X bundle

If Microsoft’s Xbox Series X|S consoles still remain very hard to find due to scalpers and the ongoing chip shortage, the company has quietly started a new experiment to let Xbox fans get their hands on a console. As reported by The Verge, the Redmond giant has started sending emails to select Microsoft customers to offer them an opportunity to purchase an Xbox Series X bundle.

Microsoft’s email mention that this offer is only targeting “valued Microsoft customers,” and emphasizes that the bundle are available for purchase on a first-come, first-served basis with a limit of one bundle per order, and two bundles per 30-day period. “There is only a limited supply available, and receiving this email does not guarantee that there will be bundles remaining for your purchases when you click the link,” the email also says.

It’s not clear if many Microsoft Store customers are currently receiving these emails, but this experiment is apparently restricted to the US. If you do receive one of these emails while the bundles are still in stock, you’ll get an additional controller plus a free game to choose between Madden NFL 22, GTA V, Rust, Far Cry 6, Hasbro Family Fun Pack, Mortal Kombat 11 Ultimate, Insurgency Sandstorm, and Diablo 2 Resurrected.

If Microsoft’s Xbox Series X|S regularly pop up on the Microsoft Store and other retailers, the consoles may not become widely available before 2023. In the meantime, we recently learned that the entry-level Xbox Series S had outsold the Series X in “several key markets.”

Microsoft to open new data center in Belgium as part of digital transformation plan

Microsoft announced that Belgium will get a new cloud datacenter region as part of the company’s “Digital AmBEtion” plan. Over the next four years, the Redmond giant plans to help the country grow its total revenue to up to €31.5 billion and create more than 60,000 jobs within the public and private sectors.

“To grow the economy, Belgium needs cutting-edge infrastructure coupled with the highest standards in security and privacy, allowing organizations to innovate faster and be more competitive. By investing in a datacenter region in Belgium, Microsoft creates the best conditions for the digitalization of the Belgian economy,” said Didier Ongena, General Manager, Microsoft BeLux.

With the new cloud region in Belgium, the company should be able to help local businesses looking for a trusted partner to accelerate their digital transformation. It will provide faster access to Microsoft’s cloud infrastructure such as AI, databases, computing, analytics, the Internet of Things (IoT), and networking. In addition to this new local datacenter, Microsoft also plans to support an education and skilling program that can benefit the Belgian population. Moreover, the company’s multi-year investment plan aims to contribute to sustainable technology.

This new datacenter region is expected to open in 2022, which will bring the total footprint of Azure to 60 regions worldwide. “Today’s announcement builds on Microsoft’s 32-year history in Belgium and commitment to advancing digital opportunities in the region,” Microsoft said yesterday.

TPM Not Showing in BIOS? How to Enable it

You might face a situation where TPM 2.0 option is missing from the BIOS setup screen, the Security option, or that there is nothing present when running the Trusted Platform Module Microsoft management console in Windows 11.

Before you can conclude that your computer is not detecting your TPM, you must first determine whether or not your laptop actually contains the chip.

There are several consumer-grade PCs that do not come equipped with the chips. Generally speaking, these may be found on a business-level computer.

Follow the rest of this article to find out a list of steps you can take to remedy the problem you’re experiencing. Note that the solutions are all applicable when the TPM is not showing in BIOS in HP, Lenovo, Dell, and other computers.

What does BIOS do?

The BIOS (pronounced bye-oss) is an acronym that stands for Basic Input/Output System. It is a ROM chip that is found on motherboards that allows you to access and configure your computer system at the most fundamental level.
bios-restart tpm not showing in bios

The BIOS contains instructions on how to load the most fundamental computer hardware. It includes a test known as a POST (Power-On Self-Test) that assists in determining whether or not the computer meets the requirements to boot up properly.

You will hear a series of beeps if the computer does not successfully complete the POST. These beeps will indicate what is wrong with the computer.

A BIOS chip can only be upgraded by replacing the existing BIOS processor with a newer, more advanced version of the BIOS chip. Adding additional memory to a BIOS device is not possible.

If the BIOS chip is a flash BIOS, the data stored on it can be updated. The BIOS on a motherboard can be updated to fix problems or add new features by using software that has been specially designed for this purpose.

How do I fix TPM not showing in BIOS in Windows 11?

1. Check whether your computer had TPM

  1. Press the Windows key + R to open a Run dialog window and type in tpm.msc, then press Enter or click the OK button to launch the tool.
tpm-msc-window tpm not showing in bios
  2. If in the new window you see a message that says Compatible TPM cannot be found, then your PC does not have a TPM.
tpm info tpm not showing in bios

If, on the other hand, you see information on the version of your chip and other details, then your PC is equipped with a TPM, and you can proceed to the next methods.

2. Update the BIOS system

To begin, navigate to the motherboard manufacturer’s website such as Dell’s official page, and locate the Downloads or Support page for the motherboard model that you are interested in.

Alternatively, for our users that reported their TPM isn’t showing in BIOS and use HP computers, they should visit HP’s official website.

Similarly, for our Lenovo users, check out Lenovos’s official page with drivers and updates.

You should see a list of the BIOS versions that are currently available, as well as any improvements or problem fixes that have been made to each version, as well as the dates on which they were released.

Download the version of the software to which you want to make an upgrade. Unless you have a unique requirement for an earlier version, you’ll usually want to go with the most recent version available.

Your download will almost certainly be in the form of an archive – typically a ZIP file. The contents of that file should be extracted.

The BIOS-flashing tool you use will depend on your motherboard and the features it offers. There are various different types of such utilities available. The readme file that comes with the firmware update should help you determine which choice is best for your hardware.

Once you’ve unzipped the file, copy the documents to a USB drive and reboot your computer. Next, enter the BIOS screen and choose the BIOS update option.

Lastly, you will have to select the file you placed on the USB drive, then the update will automatically update. For more information and methods, check out our article on how to easily update your BIOS.

3. Disconnect and reconnect the AC power cord

  1. Power off the system then disconnect the AC power cord and leave the system unplugged for about 30 seconds.
  2. Press and hold the Power button for 30 seconds.
  3. Reconnect the AC power cord to the system and boot to the BIOS setup using the F12 key.
  4. Once TPM is restored, make sure the Enabled radio button is ticked.

How to find TPM in Device Manager?

You are already aware that your system must meet certain specifications in order to be able to run Windows 11. One such requirement is the Trusted Platform Module chip, which is available from several vendors.
tpm-device-manager tpm not showing in bios

Device encryption and BitLocker are two of the features available on Windows 11 systems that make use of the TPM chip. It is used to configure security features in Windows 11 and will be required for an upgrade in this version of the operating system.

There are a variety of methods for determining whether or not a TPM 2.0 chip is present in your system, one such is by accessing Device Manager.

Press the Windows key + X on your keyboard then click on Device Manager. Once you’re in the new window, navigate to Security Devices and expand it.

That’s all there is to it, it’s very simple. It’s possible that TPM is not showing in Device Manager, in which case you might want to check out our guide on how to fix TPM not detected in Windows 11.

If you wish to reset your TPM, we have already prepared an article on how to clear it and return it to default settings.

For more information on how Windows 11 interacts with the Trusted Platform Module and makes use of its features, see our article on everything you need to know about TPM.

TPM not showing up in BIOS is clearly a system problem. Use a dedicated PC repair tool to automatically detect and fix all Windows-related issues.

Let us know what you think about Windows 11’s mandatory requirement to use the Trusted Platform Module in the comments section below, as well as whether you have benefited from this requirement so far.

You’ll be more secure on Microsoft Teams on the web with this latest change

Microsoft Teams has more in-store for you. The app has been relentless in bringing change and improving how people communicate since the start of the pandemic.

With recent updates such as accessing Teams files offline and a new Teams phone on the horizon, this new change will help businesses move in the right direction with more security in place.

Now, Microsoft is set to bring forth a new Teams feature that is already present in the mobile and desktop versions. Soon, you will have to enable permissions on a per-app basis in Teams.

According to Microsoft, this will enhance security Teams whenever other apps ask for permission to use the devices such as microphones, webcams, and location data.

Opt-in permissions

Users who wish to take advantage of this new security feature will have to opt-in. You will usually see your camera or microphone requesting access whenever you want to use them. Now, you will manually opt-in.

“In order to better secure Microsoft Teams third-party applications that request native device permissions – such as camera, microphone or location access – we will be requiring users to manually opt-in for these permissions per app in the Microsoft Teams web browser experience,” states the Microsoft 365 Roadmap. “We are already doing this on the Teams desktop and mobile clients.”

Coming soon

Microsoft added the feature to the Microsoft 365 roadmap just a few days ago, on November 19, and is scheduled to reach the general public in February 2022.

The date is not yet confirmed, and the date is subject to change since the Microsoft 365 Roadmap only lists the plans for future features and not release dates.

Do you feel the new Teams feature will change how you communicate on the app? Let us know in the comment section below.

Microsoft Bing now offers Page Insights on its search results page

Microsoft is rolling out a new search feature of its Bing platform that will help users gain insightful information at a glance.

Earlier today, Microsoft announced Page Insights which expands the functionality of Bing search by providing “summarized insights from a page on your search results.”

A new lightbulb icon will now appear next to certain search results that will now display 1/3 width “Insights” pane equipped with factoids, images, separated sections of information that link to specific areas of a page when selected.

Microsoft-Bing-Insights

There is an Explore More section that bundles even more information where users can further explore related content.

Let’s imagine you have a specific question – you want a deeper understanding of the formation of the solar system’s asteroid belt, but aren’t interested in other facts about it. Simply search for “asteroid belt”, hover over the Page insights lightbulb icon for the top result, and you’ll see that the page in question addresses your question in detail. Click the ‘Read more’ button and you’ll automatically be dropped onto the portion of the page that discusses your question in detail.

Last week, a plucky new start up by the name of You.com dared to reimagine the way online searches look and function, and while Microsoft isn’t straying as far as You.com from the “traditional” look and feel of search, it is expanding on what users should expect from the process with Page Insights.

Computer Randomly Freezes in Windows: 14 Ways to Fix it

You might have encountered a random restart on Windows 10 once or twice, but some users are experiencing a random freeze on Windows 10.

Random freeze can cause just as many problems as a random restart, so let’s see how we can fix this problem.

Why is my PC randomly freezing?

There are a lot of causes for computer freezing, but we will highlight the most important ones below:

  • Insufficient resources – If your PC doesn’t have enough memory, the system is not using all the RAM, or if you have too many applications running, freezing is a clear outcome.
  • System file corruption – Sometimes, due to certain events or conflicts, the system files may become corrupted, leading to random freezes and other issues.
  • Corrupted or outdated drivers – Driver corruption is one of the leading causes of many issues, including PC freezes, so keeping them updated is paramount.
  • Conflicting or problematic software – If you installed some software before this problem appeared, it might cause this issue.
  • Hard drive issues – When the system or the apps you’re running have trouble reading the information on your hard drive, your PC will likely freeze.

Now that we know the main problems that can cause PC freezing, let’s fix them using the solutions below.

How do I fix random freeze in Windows 10?

1. Update the network drivers

  1. Launch Device Manager from the Windows search box.
    windows 11 device manager search
  2. Click on Network adapters to expand, and right-click on the Wi-Fi driver.
  3. Select the Update driver option.
Update driver Network Adapters - tcpip.sys windows 10
  4. Now, continue with the Automatically update drivers option.
    Update drivers - search automatically
  5. Restart the PC after the updating process.

Issues with random freezes on Windows 10 can be caused by your network drivers, especially if they are out of date. If that’s the case, you might want to visit your network adapter manufacturer’s website and download the latest drivers.

Few users have reported that unsupported Wi-Fi cards and Wi-Fi drivers caused this issue, and if that’s the case, you might want to install a different wireless adapter or switch to a wired connection.

1.2 Update drivers automatically

Searching for drivers on your own can be time-consuming. So, we advise you to use a tool that will do this for you automatically.

Using an automatic driver updater will save you from the hassle of searching for drivers manually, and keep your OS up to date with the latest drivers.

Old, broken, or missing drivers can also cause freezes and other related issues. When that is the case, a tool like Outbyte Driver Updater will come in handy, especially since it can handle all of the scenarios mentioned above.

Simply download and install Outbyte Driver Updater on your PC, launch it, and the fixing process will start pretty much all by itself.

2. Remove problematic software

  1. Click the Start button and select Settings.
  2. Choose System from the menu.
  3. Go to Apps & features section and uninstall the apps you recently loaded onto your system.
    apps-and-features
  4. After you’ve uninstalled these apps, restart your computer.

Certain software can sometimes cause a random freeze on Windows 10. Our readers have reported that software such as F.lux, Speccy, Acronis True Image, Privatefirewall, McAfee, and Office Hub App can cause problems in Windows.

If you notice that the freezes began right after you installed a new program, then you need to remove it entirely, leftover files included, and to do that, you will need an uninstaller.

To perform this action effectively and resolve all the issues caused by problematic applications, you should erase them using the best uninstaller software out there.

Once that is done, restart your PC and see whether the freezes still occur, although that is highly unlikely.

3. Run netsh winsock reset command

  1. Click the Start button, type cmd and open the command line tool as an administrator.
  2. When Command Prompt starts, enter the following and press Enter to run it: netsh winsock reset
    cmd-netsh-winsock-reset
  3. Close Command Prompt and restart your computer.

Random freeze on Windows 10 can occur for many reasons, and some of our readers have reported that internet connection problems precede computer freeze.

Thus, resetting the internet settings will hopefully solve this problem quickly.

4. Disconnect all USB devices

USB devices, such as external hard drives, printers, etc., can sometimes cause Windows 10 to freeze randomly.

If you have any USB devices connected to your computer, you should disconnect them before you turn on your computer. When Windows 10 boots, you can connect your USB devices again.

5. Download the latest chipset drivers

Outdated drivers can sometimes be the culprit of random freezes on Windows 10, and many users have reported that the random freeze issue was resolved after they’ve updated chipset drivers on their computers.

To update your chipset drivers, you need to visit your motherboard manufacturer’s website and download the latest chipset drivers for your motherboard.

Few users have reported that USB 3.0 drivers can sometimes create problems, so it wouldn’t be a bad idea to update USB 3.0 drivers as well.

6. Run the SFC scan

  1. Right-click the Start Menu button, and open Command Prompt (Admin).
  2. Enter the following line and press Enter: sfc/scannow
  3. Wait until the process is done (it may take a while).
  4. If the solution is found, it will automatically be applied.
  5. Now, close the Command Prompt and restart your computer.

It’s also possible that a certain corrupt system file causes the freezing problem. To rule out that possibility, we’re going to run the System File Checker. This is a command-line tool that basically scans your system for potentially damaged files.

If the tool finds a corrupt file, it will ‘repair’ it automatically.

7. Run DISM

7.1 Standard way

  1. Right-click Start and open Command Prompt (Admin).
  2. Paste the following command and press Enter:
    • DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
  3. Wait until the scan is finished.
  4. Restart your computer and try updating again.

7.2 With the Windows installation media

  1. Insert your Windows installation media.
  2. Click the Windows button, type cmd and, from the results, choose to open Command Prompt as an administrator.
  3. In the command line, type the following commands and press Enter after each:
    • dism /online /cleanup-image /scanhealth
    • dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth
  4. Now, type the following command and press Enter:
    • DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth /source:WIM:X:SourcesInstall.wim:1 /LimitAccess
  5. Make sure to change an X value with the letter of the mounted drive with Windows 10 installation.
  6. After the procedure is finished, restart your computer.

Another command-line troubleshooter we can try when addressing the random freezes is the DISM. Deployment Image Servicing and Management (DISM), as its name, says, re-deploys the system image, so it may resolve our problem along the way.

8. Check the hard drive

  1. Enter the Advanced Startup (Restart your computer while holding the Shift key).
  2. Choose Troubleshoot, and then select Advanced Options.
  3. Select Command Prompt from the list of options.
  4. When Command Prompt appears, enter the following lines and press Enter after each line in order to run it:
    • bootrec.exe /rebuildbcd
    • bootrec.exe /fixmbr
    • bootrec.exe /fixboot
  5. Some readers also suggest that you need to run additional chkdsk commands as well.
    • To perform these commands, you need to know the drive letters for all your hard drive partitions.
      • chkdsk /r c:
      • chkdsk /r d:
    • This is just our example, so keep in mind that you have to perform chkdsk command for every hard drive partition that you have.
  6. Restart your computer and check if the issue is resolved.

If your hard drive is damaged, your system will likely lag or freeze. That’s why we’re going to run the chkdsk command.

This command checks your hard drive for potential issues and resolves them (if possible).

9. Uninstall Windows Updates

  1. Press Windows key + I to open the Settings app.
  2. Once the Settings app opens, navigate to Update & security section.
  3. Go to Windows Update tab and click on Update history.
  4. Click on Uninstall updates.
  5. List of installed updates will now appear. Select the problematic update you want to remove and click the Uninstall button.
  6. After removing the update, restart your PC.

Windows updates are a two-edged sword for every Windows 10 user. On paper, each new update should improve the functionality and security of the system, but that’s not always the case.

Reports about certain update breaking things have been circulating since the first days of Windows 10.

So, it’s quite possible that the latest cumulative update you installed causes the problem. If you suspect so, your best bet is to delete that update simply.

10. Disable your dedicated graphic card

  1. Right-click the Start button and choose Device Manager from the list.
  2. When Device Manager opens, locate your dedicated graphic card and right-click it.
  3. Choose Disable from the menu.
    device-manager-disable

If you have both dedicated and integrated graphics cards, you might want to disable your dedicated graphics card as a temporary workaround.

A few of our readers have reported that they are getting random freezes on Windows 10, and the only workaround is to disable your graphics card.

After disabling your dedicated graphic card, you might get lower performance in video games, but random freezes should be fixed.

Also, be sure to check for graphic card updates. In most cases, graphic card driver update can fix these issues, so try downloading the latest updates for your graphic card.

Updating drivers manually is annoying, so we recommend you download this driver updater tool to do it automatically. Thus, you will prevent file loss and even permanent damage to your computer.

11. Disable AMD Cool’n’Quiet and Fast Boot in BIOS

In some cases, Windows 10 freeze can be caused by certain BIOS settings such as AMD Cool’n’Quiet or Fast Boot. If these features are enabled in BIOS, you should disable them and check if the issue is resolved.

You won’t find the AMD Cool’n’Quiet feature if you have a non-AMD processor, but almost all versions of BIOS have the Fast Boot option available. After you’ve disabled these settings, save changes, and restart your computer.

12. Update your BIOS

If you are experiencing random freezes in Windows 10, you might want to update your BIOS. To perform a BIOS update, you have to visit your motherboard manufacturer’s website and download the latest version of BIOS.

Our guide on how to update BIOS will provide step-by-step instructions on how to perform that action.

Make sure that you read the instruction manual carefully before you start the update process in order to avoid any permanent damage.

13. Flash your SSD

If you have Windows 10 installed on your SSD, you might experience random freezing due to older firmware. Our readers have reported that after installing newer firmware on their SSD, all freezing issues have been resolved.

We have to warn you to be extra careful while flashing your firmware unless you want to cause permanent damage to your SSD.

14. Turn off Link State Power Management

  1. Press Windows key + S and type power plan.
  2. Choose Choose a power plan from the menu.
  3. When Power Options window opens, find your plan, and click Change plan settings.
    change-plan-settings
  4. Click on Change advanced power settings.
    changed-advanced-power-settings
  5. Now you need to find PCI section and expand it.
  6. You should see Link State Power Management option.
  7. Change the Setting to Off.
    pci-express-link-state-power-managment
  8. Click Apply and OK to save the changes.

On laptops, if you are running a power plan designed to save energy, some of the systems may be affected when the battery is not fully charged. By changing and editing the power plan, you will prevent this from happening.

Asphalt 8 Crashing: Use These 5 Solutions to Fix It

Asphalt 8: Airborne is a blockbuster racing game that has enthralled millions of players the world over. However, the game doesn’t run entirely flawlessly on Windows 10, as it crashes upon launch for some players.

As such, some Asphalt 8 fanatics have found the game app doesn’t always run. Here are a few potential fixes for Asphalt 8 if the app isn’t working for you in Windows 10.

Why does Asphalt 8 keeps crashing?

As with many other games, Asphalt 8 crashes due to several reasons, and we will outline the most important of them:

  • Problematic drivers – If the graphics driver is old, corrupt, or incompatible with your system, it will most certainly lead to Asphalt 8 crashes.
  • Insufficient resources – Running multiple other apps simultaneously can cause Asphalt 8 to crash. Not meeting the system requirements for the game is also a common problem.
  • Corrupted game installation files – We recommend downloading the game only from the official resources. Also, if you download Asphalt 8 when local Wi-Fi is not working properly, the installation files will be corrupted.

Now that we know about the possible problems behind these crashes, let’s go to the actual solutions.

How can I fix Asphalt 8 crashing?

Before immersing into more complicated solutions, let’s try a few prerequisite methods to fix the issue:

  • Check if your system has the requirements to run the game.
  • Install all the latest OS and game updates.
  • Restart your game and your computer.
  • Temporarily disable Windows Defender or your third-party antivirus and check if Asphalt 8 is working properly. If so, you should consider getting a better antivirus that won’t interfere with your apps.

If you didn’t manage to fix the problem yet, the solutions below will help you do that.

1. Run the Windows Store App troubleshooter

  1. Click the Start button and select Settings.
  2. Choose Update & Security from the options.
  3. Click Troubleshoot from the left and select Additional troubleshooters from the right.

Asphalt 8 crashing on startup on Windows 10 can be due to antiquated device drivers. However, the graphics card driver is probably essential for 3D game apps.

Updating drivers manually is an advanced procedure and might cause permanent damage to your PC by installing the wrong driver versions. We suggest doing it automatically using a specialized third party that can do that for you.

All you have to do is select the drivers you want to upgrade and leave the rest for the automated software.

4. Reinstall Asphalt 8

  1. Click the Start button and select Settings.
  2. Choose Apps from the available options.
  3. Select Asphalt 8: Airborne on the apps list, and press its Uninstall button.
  4. Click Uninstall again to remove the app.
  5. Thereafter, press the Get button on its Microsoft Store web page to add Asphalt 8 to Windows 10 again.

Reinstalling Asphalt can fix corrupted or missing game files. However, this fix should be a last resort, as you’ll also lose your game data. This is how you can reinstall Asphalt 8.

5. Roll back Windows to a previous date

  1. Press the Windows key + R to start Run, type rstrui, and press OK.
  2. Press the Next button to open a restore point list.
  3. Select an automatic restore point that predates the most recent update and click Next.
  4. Press the Next button and click Finish to roll back Windows.

This might contradict the previous resolution of updating Windows, but some players have also found that Asphalt 8 stops working immediately after an update.

If the game stops working for you after a recent update, utilizing the System Restore tool might fix it. System Restore will remove updates that don’t predate the selected restore point.

Should the operation fail, read our guide on what to do if System Restore is not working in Windows 10.

Those are a few fixes that might get Asphalt Airborne up and running again in Windows 10. You can also run the Asphalt 8 app with an Android emulator instead. Check out our extensive guide on how to resolve game crashes in Windows.

Your EPUB files got corrupted? Here’s the fix

The digitalization of books and documents is one of the endeavors our generation has taken on itself. And between various e-book formats, EPUB is one of the most used ones.

However, like any other file, EPUB can get corrupt and thus inaccessible. This isn’t exactly a common thing, as the EPUB archive isn’t the most complex thing ever, but it can happen from time to time.

If you’re in need of fixing the corrupt EPUB file, we have a few steps you can try out, so keep reading.

How can I fix the corrupt EPUB files?

1. Extract the EPUB file and archive it again

  1. Download and install WinZIP or WinRar.
  2. During the installation, don’t forget to allow the application to create the shortcut in the contextual menu.
  3. Right-click on the corrupted EPUB file, and choose Extract here.fix corrupt epub
  4. Select all extracted files (it should be 3), right-click on one of them, and choose Add to archive.fix corrupt epub
  5. Replace the extension file format to epub and click OK at the bottom.fix corrupt epub

This simple trick seemingly helped a lot of users who were having a hard time with a corrupted EPUB file. The step is rather simple and all you need is an archiver, like WinRar or WinZip.

Basically, what you need to do is extract the content from an EPUB file and archive it again with the said third-party archiver. That will, hopefully, make it accessible again.

Although, a lot of this depends on the capabilities of your EPUB reader.

2. Use Adobe Digital Editions

Adobe Digital Editions is a tool specifically created to allow you to read epub-format books on your PC. This lightweight, yet powerful tool can easily open books and help you manage your digital library.

Once you’ve loaded your ebook library, you can easily navigate the table of contents of your books, place bookmarks, and scroll through the pages. Additionally, you can change the font size to suit your screen.

Other features include the ability to highlight text, add notes, and search through the text. For a light ebook reader, Adobe Digital Editions is one of the best solutions out there.

3. Convert EPUB

  • Use Epubor Ultimate

A great solution to convert EPUB files in order to fix the issues is Epubor Ultimate.

You can convert a bunch of books to EPUB, PDF, or Mobi, and the converted books will be displayed exactly the way they are, without data corruption.

The process is as simple as drag and drop: get books from the left side library, choose an output format, and click the Convert button.

That’s all you need to do, and this smart converter will fix your corrupted EPUB files.

This converter supports input formats: KFX, EPUB, PDF, AZW, AZW1, AZW3, AZW4, Mobi, PRC, TPZ, Topaz, TXT, and HTML.

It has the ability to convert these into EPUB, Mobi, AZW3, TXT, and PDF (Common font size and large font size).

The trial version is limited to 2 files only, which is enough for you to test its capacity and buy the product if you’re happy.

⇒ Get Epubor Ultimate

  • Use Calibre
  1. Download and install Calibre.
  2. Set up Calibre, and add the corrupted EPUB file to the library.
  3. Right-click on the book and choose Convert books, and then Convert individually.fix corrupt epub
  4. In the top right corner, select the output format.
  5. You can go with the EPUB again or convert it to PDF.fix corrupt epub
  6. Click OK.

Another option is to use Calibre. Follow the above steps to successfully convert the EPUB to EPUB (or PDF).

⇒ Get Calibre

4. Use an alternative reader

The problem might also be on your part. We can only suggest giving another reader a try. Of course, this applies only to devices that allow you to meddle with the software you use.

There’s a bunch of available applications which allow you to read e-books in the EPUB format.

We recommend switching to a reader that supports multiple formats so you won’t have to install too many apps in case you want to read in other formats as well.

A good epub reader should include a library management feature. The best Windows 10 epub readers can automatically create subcategories of books based on title, author, or genre, but they also let you create your own categories and subcategories.

Along with that, a worthy epub reader should include basic tools such as a search feature that helps you find your books based on keywords, as well as find specific content/chapters within a book.

Additionally, consider picking an epub reader that is equipped with annotation/comments options, notes, dictionaries, and translation options to ensure a complete reading experience.

Other users managed to completely salvage the content of a corrupted EPUB file by converting it. The usual procedure is to convert it to a PDF format and move from there.

However, you can even convert an EPUB file to, well, EPUB. It sounds ludicrous but that’s allegedly a way to solve the problem.

So, if the PDF file format doesn’t suit your needs, you can use a converter to replicate the corrupted file.

Windows App SDK to revolutionize building apps on Windows 11

Are you an app developer? Then you will want to have a look at the Windows App SDK, a set of developer components and tools that symbolizes the progress in the Windows app development program.

This set of tools will provide you with unified APIs and tools that are designed to be used in a consistent way by apps on Windows 11 and downlevel to Windows 10 v1809.

If you are indeed passionate about software development, this is right up your alley, so might just want to stick around for this one.

Windows App SDK is now available on all channels

The Windows App SDK is not meant to be a replacement for the Windows SDK, .NET, Win32 with C++, and others.

Au contraire, the plan here is to have the Windows App SDK platform complement the existing tools with a common set of APIs that developers can make use of at any time.

If you wondering how to begin using this new platform, well, you’re in the right place. You see, Windows App SDK does provide extensions for Visual Studio 2019 along with the newer version, Visual Studio 22.

The project templates included in these templates are configured to take advantage of the Windows App SDK components in newly created projects.

So, it is possible to gain access to the Windows App SDK libraries via the NuGet package that is installable in current projects.

Here is a list of some of the features developers can use in the Windows App SDK platform:

At the moment, Windows App SDK is available via the Stable, Preview, and Experimental release channels. So go ahead and download the platform to your developer computer and give it a test drive to see how well it works.

To learn more about Windows App SDK, please read the official announcement page.

Install KB5007253 right now to get rid of some old Windows 10 bugs

Well, we’ve talked about the Windows 11 patch release, so it would be only fair that we also include his older brother in this conversation.

Yes, Microsoft also released a cumulative update for Windows 10 as well. KB5007253 is now rolling out to PCs running versions of the operating system such as 21H2, 21H1, 20H2, and 2004.

Like previous optional cumulative updates, this patch is rolling out via Windows Update. Additionally, Microsoft has also posted direct download links for Windows 10 KB5007253 offline installers on its Update Catalog.

A wide array of fixes and improvements are here

KB5007253 is actually part of the November 2021 cumulative update and it is also the first patch for version 21H2 which was recently released in the production channel.

Of course, Build 19044.1382 or Build 19043.1382 is offered as an optional release. If you’ve already updated to version 21H2 November 2021 Update, you’ll be getting Windows 10 Build 19044.1382.

On the other hand, if you’re on May 2021 Update, Microsoft will offer 19043.1382. Likewise, version 20H2 is getting Build 19043.1382.

Make sure you keep in mind that the build revision number is the only difference between these Windows 10 versions.

That’s because Windows 10 21H2, 21H1, and version 20H2 are based on the Vibranium release, which is the codebase of Windows 10 May 2020 Update, aka version 2004.

As far as fixes go, here’s what Redmond officials thought of:

  • Fixed an issue that affects the opening of the SearchFilterHost.exe process.
  • Fixed an issue that causes searchindexer.exe to keep handles to the per user search database in the path below after you sign out: C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Search\Data\Applications\\ As a result, searchindexer.exe stops working and duplicate profile names are created.
  • Added support for the cancellation of daylight savings time for the Republic of Fiji for 2021.
  • Fixed an issue that prevents the enrollment status page (ESP) from displaying the error message or remediation options after a failure.
  • Added the –cd argument to wsl.exe to specify a Windows or Linux path as a starting directory for Windows Subsystem for Linux (WSL).
  • Fixed an issue that fails to apply machine Group Policy objects automatically at startup or in the background to devices on a domain that have certain processors.
  • Added the option to configure an Internet Protocol version 4 (IPv4) maximum transmission unit (MTU) that is less than 576 bytes on an interface.
  • Fixed an issue that fails to provide an event description for the System Center – Operations Manager.
  • Fixed an issue that incorrectly renders some variable fonts.
  • Fixed an issue that might cause the 32-bit version of Microsoft Excel to stop working on devices that have certain processors when you export to PDF.
  • Fixed an issue that displays glyphs at the wrong angle when you use the Meiryo UI font and other vertical fonts. These fonts are frequently used in Japan, China, or other countries in Asia.
  • Enabled onunload events to create pop-up windows in Microsoft Edge Internet Explorer mode.
  • Fixed an issue that affects predictive pre-rendering in Microsoft Edge Internet Explorer mode.
  • Fixed an issue that causes Internet Explorer to stop working.
  • Fixed an issue that causes Internet Explorer to stop working when using the Input Method Editor (IME) to insert elements.
  • Fixed an issue that causes the Settings page to unexpectedly close after you uninstall a font.
  • Fixed an issue that affects the UI for renaming files when using folder view in File Explorer. The UI fails to properly handle inline composition when using the new Japanese IME.
  • Fixed a memory leak in ctfmon.exe that occurs when you switch between different edit clients.
  • Fixed a known issue that causes error codes 0x000006e4, 0x0000007c, or 0x00000709 when connecting to a remote printer that is shared on a Windows print server.
  • Fixed an issue that turns off screen capture and recording functionalities on the Windows Game Bar because of a service failure.
  • Fixed an issue that might cause the return value of GetCommandLineA() to be lowercase in some developer scenarios.
  • Fixed an issue that might cause the decryption of a file that is on a remote server to fail. This issue occurs when using the Encrypted File System (EFS) on the remote server and the error message is, “ERROR_DECRYPTION_FAILED”.
  • Fixed an issue that prevents you from enabling BitLocker on a thinly provisioned virtual machine (VM). The error is “A device attached to the system is not functioning” and the system logs, “STATUS_UNSUCCESSFUL”.
  • Fixed an issue that causes Windows Defender Application Control to incorrectly compare two file version numbers.
  • We enabled credentials for Azure Active Directory (Azure AD) Active Directory Federation Services (ADFS) users in Quick Assist.
  • Fixed an issue that sometimes prevents Quick Assist users from using full screen view after they start a remote assistance session.
  • Fixed an issue that prevents the applications that you use often from appearing on the Start menu and prevents you from configuring them to appear on the Start menu using a Group Policy.
  • Fixed an issue that causes the syncing of desktop settings to fail when you use the built-in User Experience Virtualization (UE-V) template.
  • Fixed an issue that prevents Failover Clustering from updating Domain Name Server (DNS) records.
  • Fixed an issue that prevents your device from starting up, and it becomes unresponsive because of licensing API calls.

November 2021 optional update includes various bug fixes and improvements for Windows 10 version 2004 and later.

For example, Microsoft fixed an issue that causes unexpected rendering issues when loading some variable fonts.

Another Windows 10 bug where letters or characters appear at the wrong angle has been fixed. Fortunately, this glitch only affected certain Asian languages, such as Japanese and Chinese.

Microsoft has also fixed issues where Microsoft Excel crashes on certain devices when you export to PDF.

An issue that affects the SearchFilterHost.exe process has been fixed. Additionally, the tech giant has also patched critical Windows printing errors like 0x00000709 when connecting to a remote printer.

Windows 10 19044.1382 addresses an issue that causes the Windows Settings page to unexpectedly. This happens on devices when users try to uninstall fonts from the Settings page.

Another bug affecting the UI for renaming files when using folder view in File Explorer has been resolved in Windows 10 update.

In addition to these improvements, Microsoft has also added support for a new –cd argument to Windows Subsystem for Linux (wsl.exe).

This would allow users to specify a Windows or Linux path as a starting directory for the subsystem.

Microsoft launches immersive Xbox Museum to celebrate 20 years of Xbox

Microsoft has launched today a virtual Xbox Museum which lets everyone revisit the history of the gaming brand over the past 20 years. The interactive experience also lets Xbox gamers sign in with their Xbox Live account to take a look at their own personal journey with Microsoft’s various Xbox consoles.

Once you open the Xbox Museum in your web browser, you’ll be able to navigate it with your mouse and keyboard. Overall, there are 132 moments detailing the history of Xbox, and there’s also a dedicated section for the Halo franchise. If it’s probably best to follow the chronology, you can also use the detailed timeline at the bottom of the main menu to jump to a specific time in history.

This virtual Xbox Museum offers a pretty detailed retrospective of the history of Xbox, including some failures such as the infamous Red Ring of Death that plagued the launch of the Xbox 360, the closure of Xbox Entertainment Studios in 2014, and the sunsetting of Mixer last year. You may also learn about some not very well-known facts, including the time when Microsoft tried to acquire Nintendo back in 2000.

If you log in with your own Xbox Live account, you’ll also be able to access a separate area of the Xbox Museum showcasing your own personal history with Xbox: You’ll learn about many details you probably forgot such as the dates of your first sign-in on each Xbox console, your most played games ever year, as well as the total of your gamerscore points earned through the years.

The Xbox Museum is available in multiple languages including English, French, German, Portuguese, and Spanish, and you can also switch between a first-person or third-person camera on the fly. This virtual museum is a pretty great way to celebrate 20 years of Xbox, and it’s a good appetizer for the upcoming Power On – The Story of Xbox docuseries coming on December 13, 2021.

FPS Boost support won’t be coming to more Xbox games “in the immediate future”

FPS Boost is great backwards compatibility feature on Xbox Series X|S console that can double or sometimes quadruple the original framerate on select Xbox games from previous generations. There are currently over 130 Xbox 360 and Xbox One games that support FPS Boost on Xbox Series X and Series S consoles, but it could be a while Microsoft adds new titles to the list.

Jason Ronald, Director of Program Management at Xbox appeared earlier this week in the Iron Lords Podcast, and he explained that the Xbox team has hit some roadblocks in its journey to bring FPS Boost support to more backwards compatible Xbox games (via PureXbox). Doubling the framerate can break some games that weren’t designed to run at 60 or 120 FPS, and the Xbox team will need to explore new techniques before more games from previous Xbox generations can benefit from FPS Boost.

You can read what Jason Ronald said about these FPS Boost challenges below, and we’ve also embedded the Iron Lords Podcast episode right after:

“We’re always looking at new ways that we can enhance titles, whether it’s resolution increases, frame rate improvements, things like Auto HDR. I’ll say right now, with the existing technique that we have with FPS Boost, we’ve tried plenty more than [the 130 FPS Boosted titles] and in some cases the vast majority of the game works great, but then we find a game-breaking bug 80% of the way through.”

“We’re going to continue to look for new opportunities and new ways that we can enhance titles, but we don’t have anything in the immediate future… Right now, I think we’re kind of finding where some of the limitations of our current technique is.”

Last week, Microsoft added FPS Boost support for 37 new Xbox One and Xbox 360 games including the original Assassin’s Creed game, Fable Anniversary, and the Gears of War trilogy. On this occasion, the Xbox team also said that there would be no more new Xbox 360 and original Xbox games on the Xbox Backwards Compatibility program “due to licensing, legal and technical constraints.”

Exo One game review: gorgeous planet-surfing through space

Exo One is an amazing-looking indie game in which you travel at sonic speed through alien planets far beyond our own solar system. You’re piloting an alien-technology spacecraft (I think?) that uses gravity to increase its rolling speed and then you jump and glide through the atmosphere, making your way to the nearest transporter that will shoot you off to the next planet.

Its major selling points are the gorgeous visuals and the feeling of serenity as you glide through clouds and take in the wonderful vistas across the universe.

Planet surfing

Exo One uses a unique method of traversal. You’re controlling a spacecraft that can alter its shape and gravitational pull. In practice this means that you’ll be turning into a spherical shape when rolling across the terrain, increasing your gravity on downhill slopes to pick up speed, and then jumping at the right time to gain height and glide long distances.

Rock and roll

It’s a wonderful feeling when you can chain the different techniques together, but at the same time, it can also frustrate you if you mess up somehow and have to regain your momentum from scratch.

What is beyond impressive, however, is the scale of these planets you’re traversing and how carefully planned out all of the hills are, especially in one particular level where they disable your steering and you’ll have to rely on the direction of certain slopes to fling you in the correct direction.

Another level has you use asteroids around a burning star to slingshot you towards the next transporter and it’s truly a sight to behold, but at the same time hugely frustrating if you lose your bearing or can’t succeed to break loose from the gravity pulling you down to the rock you’re on.

It’s all sun and games until you lose track of where to go

Gorgeous sights to behold

Each planet you traverse has its own unique obstacles to overcome and while it may not give you a lot of explanations, it’s usually clear what you have to do, like gathering energy or simply making your way to the shining beacon of light that pierces the sky.

You’d be forgiven if you forget to focus on progression for a second and instead decide to take in the lovely surroundings because there really are some beautiful locations to behold. My personal favorite was the calm water planet that kind of resembles earth. It also helps that this one was the easiest for me to maintain a nice and fast speed because of all the boost gates present.

sea-riously beautiful!

As for the music, there are rare moments when there is a wonderfully composed soundtrack with synth music that is often used in movies about space travel, but the majority of the game is silent and only has you hearing the humming of your spacecraft and the weather effects that hit your ship’s exterior as you blast through the atmosphere.

Interstellar travel

I’ve played through the game twice now and I’m still not entirely sure I grasp what the story is trying to tell. There are flashes of a crew of astronauts and quotes from an expedition to Jupiter that went wrong, or didn’t it?

Are these people still alive? I honestly have no clue.

From what I could gather from the narrated explanations in the game, we’re piloting this unique alien vessel as humans, but I’m also not sure if it’s borrowed technology and how exactly it fits humans inside? It was a bit hard to take in because the narrative elements are often told during moments where the entire screen flashes in all bright colors, and even though I’m not epileptic, I felt the urge to look away.

I was mostly getting the same vibes as when watching the movie Interstellar and it felt like the game was aiming for a similar narrative, but at the same time, I didn’t really feel like it needed a story at all. We’re never really introduced to any characters we should care about and I can’t help but think that simply removing the human element from the game would have left it as a better game.

How long to beat and complete?

How long does it take to beat Exo One? My first playthrough took me around 2.5 hours but I did struggle a lot getting past the asteroid level. It should have unlocked an achievement for beating it under 180 minutes though, but in my case, it didn’t pop.

There is also an achievement for beating it under 30 minutes so I guess that with the right momentum and if you know where you need to be going, you can really blaze through each planet and keep breaking the sound barrier, which is what almost half of the achievements require you to do.

My second playthrough came in just a little over two hours so I guess the controls simply don’t click with me and it might end up being a totally different experience if you’re more fluent than I am. (alas, the achievement for sub 180 minutes didn’t pop again)

All things considered, a great player could probably get the full 1000G in about 1-2 hours total if they can maintain the breakneck speed in one run and manage to find all the collectible energy sources in the next one.

Final thoughts on Exo One

Pros
Absolutely gorgeous vistas to behold
When the different gameplay techniques click, it feels almost meditative
Cons
But when they don't it can feel frustrating and near impossible to progress
The story feels unnecessary and needlessly confusing

Final Score: 3.5/5

Exo One is a unique gaming experience with almost meditative qualities when you’re in the flow of things and masterfully chaining the creative techniques together while taking in the breathtaking sights.

I guess your enjoyment all relies on your skills in doing so because the moments where it truly frustrated me and I felt stuck, also seemed to be caused by my own lack of grasping when to glide and how long to nosedive back to the surface. There is also a story that felt unnecessarily confusing and could have probably been left out altogether.

None of this takes away from its visual qualities however and it’s very much worth playing through at least once for that alone.

Exo One costs around €16 and is available on Windows PC and Xbox consoles. It’s currently also included in Xbox Game Pass.

UserBenchmark is now viewed as malware according to anti-viruses and Windows Security

The popular free benchmarking tool is currently under fire as almost two dozen anti-viruses are now flagging Userbenchmark  as malware.

According to VirusTotal, 23 anti-viruses are flagging the software as malware with a majority identifying it as a Trojan.

UserBenchmark typically tests your CPU, GPU, memory and storage drives. If it is being flagged as malware, you have to find other alternatives to test your drives.

New case

The 23 anti-viruses flagging the software as malware is a pretty significant number. The issue is totally new and users are still navigating on how to go about the issue.

Joining the list is Microsoft. It is part of the anti-malware programs that also thinks UserBenchmark is a malicious trojan.

Microsoft further terms it as ‘dangerous and executes commands from an attacker’ in the Microsoft Security intelligence version 1.353.1394.0 and labels it as a ‘severe’ threat.

Users on forums have encountered similar problems and are now offering each other fixes. According to this reddit user, the malicious returns are false positives.

A regular install could be the source of this problem instead of a custom install.

One of the reasons why it is being flagged as malware is because of its Nullsoft Scriptable Install System (NSIS) nature.

According to NSIS’ website, this is a common false positive issue given that many anti-virus programs flag NSIS files as potential malware.

FIX: Kernel security check failure RAM in Windows 10/11

The kernel security check failure occurs when the kernel notices the corruption of serious data configuration in your OS, and it can be hard to trace the pathway creating the problem.

However, many Windows 10 users reported the problem to have occurred after they upgraded the RAM. If you are experiencing the same problem, you might want to try the various workarounds discussed below.

But first, here are some more examples of this issue:

  • Kernel security check failure USB tethering – Users report that kernel security check failure issues usually happen during USB tethering.
  • Kernel security check failure loop – It’s possible to get into an infinite loop of this BSOD error. In that case, you need to act promptly, and resolve the issue as soon as possible.
  • Kernel security check failure overclock – Users also report that this issue can happen in PC configurations with overclocked CPUs.
  • Kernel security check failure after sleep – Another common time for this issue to appear is right after the Sleep Mode.

How can I fix the kernel security check failure error?

1. Scan your PC for viruses

  1. Press the Windows Key + I to open the Settings app.
  2. Go to the Update & Security section.
  3. Select Windows Security from the left panel.
  4. In the right panel, click on Open Windows Defender Security Center.
  5. Select the Virus & threat protection, and click on Quick scan.

Viruses are a common cause of various BSOD errors, and it might be the case here, as well.

Make sure to run your third-party antivirus software or at least Windows Defender, and check if your computer is virus-free.

There are many great antivirus tools on the market, but we recommend looking for a security solution that won’t interfere with your system.

Make sure to get an antivirus with a powerful firewall, a large and ever-growing threat database, a well-implemented privacy policy, and multiple layers of protection.

On top of that, you should also look for an antivirus tool with low resource/CPU usage. Many great security utilities offer 100% protection without having a negative impact on your system’s speed rates.

2. Make sure the drivers are up to date

Another common cause of BSOD errors in Windows 10 are outdated or damaged drivers. So, make sure all your drivers are up to date.

We strongly recommend the Outbyte Driver Updater tool to update your drivers in order to avoid damage to your PC by manually downloading the wrong driver versions.

This great program looks for new drivers for your hardware and downloads updates automatically.

It scans your system and lists all existing and possibly missing drivers. The tool also detects if there is already a new version for current records. If necessary, these can be updated directly via Outbyte Driver Updater.

Already installed drivers can also be stored in an archive and used, for example, when the system is restored.

However, we recommend you download this driver updater tool (100% safe and tested by us) to do it automatically. Thus, you will prevent file loss and damage to your PC.

⇒ Get Outbyte Driver Updater

3. Check the RAM

The RAM can be the source of the problem that causes your computer to restart and to display the Kernel security check failure error.

If the problem began after you swapped the RAM with a newer one, try to put back the one you already had. If it works fine with the old RAM, then the problem might be with the recent one.

For almost every motherboard, the manufacturer normally displays a list of RAM that have been tested with that motherboard.

You might want to check whether your new RAM is on the list or use one that is listed. Also, ensure that it is properly fitted in the right place.

4. Check the hard disk for errors

windows installation encountered an unexpected error
  1. Press the Windows key + R, type cmd, and hit Enter.
  2. Right-click on Command Prompt, and select Run as administrator.
  3. In the command line, type chkdsk c: /r, and press Enter.
  4. Wait until the procedure ends.

A corrupted HDD with bad sectors, can invoke a variety of errors, including the one we’re addressing today. For that reason, we encourage you to check your hard drive for possible errors.

5. Run the System File Checker

error 0x800f0900 windows 10

  1. Press the Windows key + R, type cmd, and hit Enter.
  2. Right-click on Command Prompt, and select Run as administrator.
  3. In the command line, type sfc/ scannow, and press Enter.
  4. It might take a few second for the scan to complete. Wait patiently till its shows 100% scan is complete.
  5. Restart your PC.

The System File Checker (SFC) is a utility in Windows that can scan and restore corrupted system files.

If at any given time you interfered with the system files or maybe you have replaced or applied some tweaks to the system files while customizing your Windows, and now you find that your OS is misbehaving, you may want to run this utility first.

6. Run the DISM

error 0x800f0900 windows 10
  1. Press the Windows key + R, type cmd, and hit Enter.
  2. Right-click on Command Prompt, and select Run as administrator.
  3. In the command line, copy-paste the following lines one by one, and press Enter after each: DISM /online /Cleanup-Image / ScanHealth DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
  4. Wait for the resolution.

If the SFC tool fails, we can always turn to DISM. The Deployment Image Servicing and Management tool are similar to SFC.

However, besides the fact it can rebuild the whole system image in case of corruption, there are two ways you can use it.

The first one relies on Windows Update to replace the corrupted files. The second rather use an external installation drive (USB or DVD) to apply fixes.

7. Run the BSOD troubleshooter

  1. Hold Windows Key + S.
  2. Type Settings in the search box, and click on it.
  3. Head over to Updates & Security, and choose Troubleshoot.
  4. Select Blue Screen, and go to Run the Troubleshooter.
  5. Follow further on-screen instructions and let the process finish.
  6. Restart your computer.

If DISM failed to resolve the problem, let’s try Windows 10’s built-in troubleshooting tool. This tool can help you resolve various issues, including BSOD errors.

Don’t forget to tell us whether one of the solutions get you through the problem. If you have any other suggestions or questions, feel free to leave them in the comments section below.

FIX: USB Wi-Fi adapter not detected in Windows 10/11

The benefits of the Wi-Fi network over the LAN are obvious.

If you need Wi-Fi connectivity but don’t want cables, the USB Wi-Fi adapter seems to be the best solution for you.

However, a lot of users have had a hard time with those, especially the unbranded ones. Namely, it seems that Windows 10 can’t recognize some of them.

For that purpose, we prepared a list of possible solutions in order to fix this and make your Wi-Fi adapter recognizable for Windows 10.

Make sure to move through the enlisted steps one by one, so we can resolve it together.

What can I do if the USB Wi-Fi adapter is not recognized?

1. Update driver through the system

  1. Right-click the Start button, and open Device Manager.
  2. Navigate to Network adapters.
  3. Right-click on your external USB WI-Fi adapter and Update driver.

2. Try an alternative USB port

After thousands of plug-in and unplug cycles, your USB ports must suffer. Over time of extensive use, there’s a good chance that one of the available ports is malfunctioning.

So, make sure to try out multiple ports before you discard hardware as the possible issue instigator. USB ports are prone to malfunctions, so this is a common problem.

Luckily, every PC comes with multiple USB ports so you’ll at least have a choice. If you have appropriate tools, you can check for the power outage.

3. Install proper drivers

  1. Right-click on Start and open Device Manager.
  2. Navigate to Network adapters.
  3. Right-click on USB Wi-Fi adapter and open Properties.
  4. Choose the Details tab.
  5. Select Hardware Ids.
  6. Copy the first line and paste it into your browser.
  7. Locate the official drivers in results. Download and install them.
  8. Make sure to download and install only official drivers from trusted sources.
  9. Restart your PC and look for changes.

Most of the contemporary USB Wi-Fi adapters come with the support disk with drivers compatible with Windows 10.

It’s uncertain whether the automatically installed drivers will suffice, so it’s of the utmost importance to install the drivers provided by the OEM.

If you’re missing the installation disk, you can find the drivers online. The only thing you’ll need to do is to locate them manually.

Keep in mind that updating your drivers is an advanced procedure. If you’re not careful, you can cause permanent damage to your system by manually downloading the wrong driver versions.

Since updating drivers manually can be a long process, we recommend a professional driver updating tool that will automatically update all your drivers for you.

Once installed, this software will check your installed driver versions against its cloud database of the latest versions and will download the updates automatically.

4. Check Power settings

  1. Right-click on the Battery icon, and open Power Options.
  2. Select your preferred plan and click on Change plan settings.
  3. Choose the Change advanced power settings option.
  4. ExpandUSB settings, and go to USB selective suspend settings.
  5. Disable this option for both On battery and Plugged In alternatives.
  6. Save changes and restart your PC.

A large chunk of power consumption on your PC goes to USB ports and dedicated devices you’ve plugged in.

In order to reduce the power consumption, Windows has some hidden power-related options that tend to suspend USB in order to preserve battery life.

5. Disable the turn off this device to save power option

  1. Right-click the Start button, and open Device Manager.
  2. Navigate toUniversal Serial Bus controllers, and expand the section.
  3. Right-click on each individual USB root hub, and open Properties.
  4. Click on the Power management tab.
  5. Uncheck the Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power box and confirm changes.
  6. You’ll need to do this for each USB hub, respectively.
  7. Restart your PC.

This is a crossover of Power settings and drivers. Namely, every USB hub has it’s dedicated power settings. The idea is to disable certain USBs in order to preserve power.

However, this can affect the devices connected via USB negatively , which can affect the Wi-Fi adapter performance or even trigger the error code 10. Because of that, make sure to disable this option for all USB root hubs.

In case you found an alternative solution for USB Wi-Fi adapter issues in Windows 10, make sure to tell us in the comments below. We’ll be grateful for your valuable insights on the subject.
