Uplay doesn’t recognize installed games on Windows 10/11

Nowadays, Windows 10 gamers like to play their games through digital distribution services like Steam and Uplay.

It is much easier to have access to a game library at all times, keep your games updated and organized, and have them all in one place.

But sometimes, problems can occur with already installed games and the Uplay client. If you are an Uplay user and the client doesn’t detect your installed games, take a look at the solutions below.

Uplay game not showing up in library

1. General troubleshooting steps

  1. Make sure that your game is not connected to another Ubisoft Account. If you’ve created or logged in with a secondary account, log in to that account and check if the game is in the game library.
  2. Make sure that your game is not hidden. In Uplay PC you have the option to hide games from the library. Scroll to the bottom of your Uplay PC game library and expand the Hidden section to check if your game is there.
  3. Empty the cache folder for Uplay PC. Close Uplay > navigate to the Uplay default directory > find and rename the cache folder to something else > relaunch Uplay PC and check if the problem is still present.

2. Choose the right game directory

uplay not discovering games on windows 10
  1. Open Uplay on your Windows 10 PC and log in.
  2. Now go to your games library in the Uplay client and locate the game that you want to detect.
  3. Click on the game.
  4. On the game page, under the Download button, you’ll see a Locate installed game button.
  5. Click on Locate installed game and then manually select the installation directory of your game.
  6. Now click OK.

After that, you should be able to update and launch the game through Uplay PC. Alternatively, you can use the Download button:

  1. First, back up your games, just in case something goes wrong.
  2. After that, open Uplay and log in.
  3. Go to your games library and click on the game you want to detect.
  4. Now you’ll see a Download button.
  5. Click on it.
  6. Now point the Uplay installer at the game directory.
  7. Uplay should now Discover Files… and it should show your game as installed.

A lot of Uplay users had the same problem but managed to solve it by using this method, so you can try it as it might fix the issue for you too.

3. Uplay not detecting Steam installed games

  1. Close Uplay. If needed, open Task Manager and end any Uplay related processes.
  2. Open File Explorer.
  3. Navigate to your default Uplay PC directory (usually C:Program Files (x86)UbisoftUbisoft Game Launchercache).
  4. Now locate and delete the Ownership folder.
  5. Restart Uplay PC.
  6. Try to launch the game again from Steam.

4. Move your games to another partition

If the previous solutions didn’t work, as a last resort, you can try to move your games to another drive/partition and reinstall Uplay on your Windows 10 PC.

We’ve already covered how to move Uplay games to another drive/partition in this dedicated guide, so be sure to check it out and follow the steps there.

After moving your games to another partition and reinstalling Uplay on your PC, they should be automatically discovered.

Keep in mind that you should first try to use the Locate installed games and Download buttons from the Uplay client, as many users solved the problem in this manner.

Moreover, you also can split your hard drive into more partitions and separate system files from other applications or games, and thus better sort out files.

In case you need extensive support regarding partition operations to easily transfer data, you can always use partition manager software.

Gears 5 had the biggest launch week of of any Xbox Game Studios title this generation

Gears 5, the latest blockbuster game coming from Xbox Game Studios had the biggest launch for any first-party game for this console generation, Microsoft announced today. That’s not really surprising considering Microsoft has been promoting the game like crazy, providing great fan service by including characters from Halo: Reach, Terminator: Dark Fate, and even Dave Bautista himself.

“The performance easily doubled the first week’s debut of Gears of War 4 and made Gears 5 the most-played Xbox Game Studios title in its first week since 2012’s Halo 4. First week performance includes the four-day early access period beginning Friday, September 6, which was exclusive to Gears 5 Ultimate Edition and Xbox Game Pass Ultimate members. On the PC, Gears 5 has nearly tripled the performance of its predecessor, becoming the biggest-ever launch for Xbox Game Pass for PC, and Xbox Game Studios’ best-ever debut on Steam,” wrote Aaron Greenberg, Xbox Games Marketing General Manager.

Gears 5 received great reviews upon release, and we reported last week that it beat Fortnite as the most played game on Xbox One. That’s no longer the case following the release of Borderlands 3 on Friday, but Gears 5 developer The Coalition has already detailed its extensive post-launch support plans with a series of “Operations,” each lasting 3 months.

As usual, Microsoft isn’t sharing any data about how many Gears 5 units it sold since launch, and it’s highly likely that making the game available on Xbox Game Pass on launch day has been cannibalizing game sales. However, getting gamers jump on the Xbox Game Pass bandwagon is probably what Microsoft really cares about, and Gears 5 is probably an excellent bait for that.

If you haven’t done it yet, we remind you that you can get two months of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate for just $2, which will give you access to Xbox Game Pass for console, Xbox Game Pass for PC, and Xbox Live Gold. With so many games on the Game Pass catalog, that’s really a deal you don’t want to miss.

Microsoft acknowledges issues with Intel and Broadcom Wi-Fi adapters on Windows 10 version 1903

In an announcement on Twitter, Microsoft acknowledged via Windows Update that there are issues on Windows 10 version 1903 involving Intel and Broadcom Wi-Fi adapters.

As noted on the Microsoft Docs website for Windows 10 version 1903, Microsoft details the Wi-Fi issue..

“Microsoft and NEC have found incompatibility issues with Intel Centrino 6205/6235 and Broadcom 802.11ac Wi-Fi cards when running Windows 10, version 1903 on specific models of NEC devices. If these devices are updated to Windows 10, version 1903, they will no longer be able to use any Wi-Fi connections. The Wi-Fi driver may have a yellow exclamation point in device manager. The task tray icon for networking may show the icon for no internet and Network & Internet settings may not show any Wi-Fi networks. To safeguard your update experience, we have applied a compatibility hold on the affected devices from being offered Windows 10, version 1903.”

Microsoft added that there is a workaround for those affected by the issue. All you need to do is disable and then re-enable the Wi-FI adapter in Device Manager. This will allow you to use Wi-Fi until the next time you reboot your Windows 10 PC. Upon reboot, you will have to complete the process again to enable Wi-Fi. Microsoft is working on a fix for this issue, which will be available in a future Windows 10 update.

Microsoft’s Surface Laptop 3 will reportedly have a 15″ variant with an AMD CPU

Microsoft’s upcoming Surface event in New York on October 2 may bring some good surprises for fans of the company’s Surface Laptop line. Citing information coming from European retailers, Roland Quandt from German website WinFuture.de claims that Microsoft’s new Surface Laptop 3 will be available for the first time in a 15” variant. Interestingly, this 15” model will be powered by an AMD processor, which would be a first for a Surface product.

According to the report, Microsoft may offer three three AMD-based models of the Surface Laptop 3 with a 15-inch display, but it’s still not clear if there also could be Intel variants of the new 15” Surface Laptop 3. The 13” model is expected to stick with Intel processors, though an AMD variant may also be on the table.

While not as popular as Intel CPUs, AMD processors are usually cheaper and come with much better integrated GPUs. Earlier this year, the chip maker unveiled 2nd Gen Ryzen PRO mobile processors, which are 12nm chips with fast integrated Radeon Vega graphics. Anyway, a 15″ Surface Laptop 3 should be an interesting alternative to the 15″ Surface Book 2, which has a detachable form factor that may not be that attractive for people who are not creative professionnals.

According to AdDuplex’s numbers from last year, Microsoft’s Surface Laptop 2 and its predecessor have been far less popular than the Surface Pro 6 and the more affordable Surface Go. Maybe AMD processors and a new 15″ model will help to shake things up, but as pretty much all premium laptops now come with multiple USB-C and Thunderbolt 3 ports, it’s time for Microsoft to finally ditch its proprietary Surface connector and switch to these more versatile options.

How can an attacker get access to your files?

Computer user - windows image file handling information disclosure vulnerability
This specific vulnerability can be caused by your computer system by conflicting memory operations being performed while modifying PNG (.png) image files.

An attacker can use this opening in your security to convince you that the links or files they created are genuine original files.

But what do you do when your keyboard stops working for no reason at all?

  2. Now go to the installation folder of the game.
  3. Right-click on its shortcut (game.exe) and click on “Run as administrator.”
  4. The game should start normally and your keyboard problem should be gone.

Keep in mind that this is only a workaround and you’ll have to repeat it every time you open the game. If you want a more permanent fix, you can set the game to always start with administrative rights:

  1. Locate the game’s shortcut and right-click on it.
  2. Select Proprieties.
  3. Now click on the Compatibility tab.
  4. Under Settings, check the Run this program as an administrator option.
  5. Click Apply and then OK.

4. Update your keyboard driver

uplay keyboard not responding
  1. In your Windows search box, type “device” and click on the first result. Alternatively, you can press the Windows key + X and select Device Manager.
  2. In Device Manager, locate your keyboard driver and right-click it.
  3. Now click on Update Driver.
  4. In the window that appears, click on “Search automatically for updated driver software.”
  5. When a new driver is found, install it.

Check that you’re using the most recent versions of your drivers. A computer cannot manage video cards, computer programs, sound cards, or other hardware; they must be managed by a driver.

There are third-party tools that can do this for you automatically. Otherwise, doing it manually takes time and requires extensive knowledge of the drivers you’re looking for.

You may rely on Fortect Driver Updater to make such changes to ensure a proper update with the most recent keyboard drivers suitable for your PC. With a few clicks, the software will scan your PC’s hardware and peripherals for potential driver upgrades.

⇒ Get Fortect Driver Updater

You can also try to reinstall the Uplay client, but a lot of users have already tried that with no success. Your best bet is to run the game with administrative rights or disable overlays.

After following these steps, your keyboard should work just fine in Uplay and in Ubisoft games.

FIX: Microsoft Publisher won’t send emails

Microsoft Publisher includes options for sending documents in emails. That application enables users to send embedded newsletter documents in emails to contacts. However, Publisher’s embedded email feature doesn’t always work for some users. Publisher cannot complete the operation is one error message that might pop up when users can’t send emails with the application. Here are a few troubleshooting tips for fixing Publisher when it doesn’t send emails.

How to Fix Publisher’s Emailing

1. Select Outlook as the Default Email Software

  1. Outlook must be Windows’ default email software for users to send documents within Publisher. To change the default mail software in Windows 10, click the Type here to search button.
  2. Then enter the keyword ‘default’ in the search box.
  3. Select Default apps to open the window shown directly below. The Default apps tab microsoft publisher won't send email
  4. Click the current default Mail app to open the Choose an application window.Choose an application window microsoft publisher won't send email
  5. Select Outlook to be the default email software.

2. Check the Publisher and Outlook Versions Match

Users won’t be able to send embedded document emails from Publisher if they don’t have matching Publisher and Outlook versions. For example, users with Publisher 2013 will need Outlook 2013. So, some users might need to check that their Publisher and Outlook versions match up.

MS Publisher microsoft publisher won't send email

Users who have updated their Outlook software might need to revert back to the previous versions that match the Publisher applications they’re utilzing, or vice versa. Uninstall the more update software, and then reinstall the old Outlook or Publisher versions.

3. Change the Document’s Fonts

Errors can arise when users try to send Publisher document emails that include non-standard web fonts and formatting. Publisher sends newsletter emails with HTML formatting. Thus, some users might need to replace unusual fonts in the documents they’re trying to send with standard web fonts. Arial, Times New Roman, Helvetica, and Times are some of the most standard web fonts.

Note that it’s better to utilize Publisher’s email newsletter templates for emailing documents with the application. Those are HTML formatted newsletters that should work just fine with Publisher’s embedded email feature. To do that, select E-mail and Newsletter within Publisher’s template type list.

4. Repair MS Office

  1. Some Publisher users have confirmed they’ve fixed Publisher cannot complete the operation errors for sending emails with MS Office’s repair utility. Users can do that by opening Run with its Windows key + R keyboard shortcut.
  2. Open Programs and Features by entering ‘appwiz.cpl’ in Run and clicking OK.The Windows uninstaller microsoft publisher won't send email
  3. Select the MS Office suite in Programs and Features.
  4. Select the Change option. The Change button microsoft publisher won't send email
  5. Users can then select either a Quick Repair or Online Repair option. Select the more thorough Online Repair option.
  6. If it’s an MSI-based Office, users will need to select the Repair option; and then click the Continue button.

5. Send the Email as a PDF Attachment

If the above fixes don’t do the trick, try sending the document as a PDF email attachment from Publisher instead, which is usually a more reliable method. The PDF will also retain the exact formatting of the Publisher document. To do that, click File, Share, and E-mail within Publisher; and then select the Send as PDF option.

The Send as PDF button microsoft publisher won't send email

The resolutions above might fix Publisher’s email feature for some users. Remember, however, that users can also send email newsletters with web apps such as MailChimp.

System restore error: Specify which Windows installation to restore

Every time files get corrupted on your PC, or you make an irreversible change you wish you didn’t, you can always count on using System restore.

The problem is that not even the System Restore feature is foolproof, and errors can be encountered along the way.

One good example is when a corrupted system file is detected during the restore process.

If that happens, you might be prompted with an error message labeled: To use System Restore, you must specify which Windows installation to restore.

What causes this error?

  • Corrupted system files caused by mishandling of your files, faulty installation and even malware.
  • BCD corruption, a.k.a. a Boot Configuration Data corruption, can be the cause of the error since this is where all the boot data is being stored.

FIX: Specify which Windows installation to restore

1. Perform a CHKDSK

  1. Perform a system boot
  2. When the Windows logo appears, press F8, taking you to the Recovery Options
  3. In the Recovery Options, select Troubleshoot
  4. From here, choose Advanced Options
  5. Select Command Prompt.
  6. Check the integrity of your volumes.
  7. You will need to scan the Primary Partition type volumes
  8. Type in the following command (replace C: accordingly): chkdsk C: /offlinescanandfix

2. Perform a SFC scan

  1. Click Start
  2. Type Run in the search bar
  3. If you don’t already know which partition is your system drive, when the command prompt appears type in the following:
    • Cd /
    • Dir
  4. If you see the Users folder in the list, this means that that is your system drive. If you don’t see the folder, change your drive by typing alphabets of your volumes, for example G:
  5. After you’ve found your system volume, in the command prompt, type in the following, (where C: is your system drive.):
    • sfc /scannow /offbootdir=C: /offwindir=C:Windows

3. Use Deployment Image Servicing and Management

  1. Click Start
  2. Type Run in the search bar
  3. When the command prompt appears, type in the following (here, C: is your system volume):
    • DISM /Image:C:Windows /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth/Source:C:WindowsWinSxS
  4. If an error is shown,  insert a windows bootable USB or DVD and then type in the following:
    • DISM /Image:C:Windows /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth /Source:esd:E:SourcesInstall.esd:1 /limitaccess
  5. In this line, E: is the removable drive meaning USB drive or DVD drive
  6. In a few cases, the install.esd may be install.wim. If that’s the case, enter the following command:
    • DISM /Image:C:Windows /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth /Source:wim:E:SourcesInstall.wim /limitaccess

4. Use Bootrec

  1. Click Start
  2. Type Run in the search bar
  3. When the command prompt appears, type in the following:
    • BootRec /Fixmbr
    • BootRec /FixBoot
    • BootRec /RebuildBCD
  1. Reboot your system (make sure a bootable USB or DVD is inserted into your system before running the commands.)

5. Run your basic Windows Repair

  1. Insert your bootable USB or DVD.
  2. Boot from the USB or DVD.
  3. Select Repair your computer

Surface Pro 7 may launch with an Intel Core i3 variant according to new leak

As we’re getting closer to Microsoft’s next Surface event on October 2, Roland Quandt from German blog WinFuture.de apparently got a tip from European retailers detailing all the different configurations of Microsoft’s upcoming Surface Pro 7. According to the report, Microsoft plans to offer Intel Core i3, i5, and i7 variants of the new tablet, with the i3 model serving as the entry model.

Here are the five different Surface Pro 7 models that will be available at launch according to WinFuture:

  • Microsoft Surface Pro 7, Intel Core i3, 4 GB RAM, 128 GB SSD
  • Microsoft Surface Pro 7, Intel Core i5, 8 GB RAM, 128 GB SSD
  • Microsoft Surface Pro 7, Intel Core i5, 8 GB RAM, 256 GB SSD
  • Microsoft Surface Pro 7, Intel Core i7, 16 GB RAM, 256 GB SSD
  • Microsoft Surface Pro 7, Intel Core i7, 16 GB RAM, 512 GB SSD

Microsoft offering a Core i3 variant of the Surface Pro 7 is quite interesting, especially since the Surface Pro 6 was only available with Core i5 or Core i7 chips. As you may recall, the Surface Pro 3 from 2014 was the last Surface model to be offered with a Core i3 processor, while the Surface Pro 4 and 5 were available with a Core m3 processor, a low-power chip that didn’t require a fan. However, design improvements from the Surface team later gave us fanless designs for the Core i5 Surface Pro 5 and 6.

According to various reports, Microsoft may also introduce a Surface Pro with an ARM processor codenamed “Excalibur” next month. Qualcomm is launching its new Snapdragon 8cx SoC this Fall that has been designed for the ground up for Always Connected PC, but “Excalibur” could actually be the name of a custom-designed SoC from Microsoft.

“Unlike previous attempts with ARM, I am told that Microsoft worked extremely closely with Qualcomm to build this chipset, based on their own specifications, to design a chip that would work better with Windows 10,” wrote Brad Sams on Petri.com today. “This new SoC may be used as a reference device for other OEMs who are looking to use the 8cx (or similar) in upcoming products.”

We won’t have to wait much longer to get all the details about the Surface Pro 7 and other new Surface devices from Microsoft, though we hope 2019 is the year Microsoft finally embraces USB-C across the whole Surface family. The company may also use this event to reveal Windows Lite and its “Centaurus” dual-screen device, and we may also see new accessories such as a Surface-branded earbuds and a connected speaker for the enterprise.

How to search the web with Bing in Notepad

As part of the ongoing improvements to Windows 10’s Notepad, Microsoft added a built-in web search feature with last year’s Windows 10 October 2018 update. This lets you quickly search for highlighted text, without having to copy-and-paste a selection into your browser.

This is a quick convenience tip but one which is buried in Notepad’s “Edit” menu. To perform a quick search, highlight a word or phrase in your document. You can then press the Ctrl+E keyboard shortcut to launch a new web search for the text.

Search with Bing in Notepad

Notepad will respect your default browser, so you don’t need to worry about Edge suddenly launching itself. You will be stuck with Bing though, as there’s no way to customise the search engine which is used.

Microsoft has embarked on a significant enhancement program for Notepad, years after the program last got an update. Changes coming in future Windows 10 updates include a move to the Microsoft Store, which will decouple Notepad from Windows and enable Microsoft to push future updates through more quickly. Although Search with Bing is a minor feature in comparison, it further improves Notepad’s all-round usability and is easily ignored if you don’t need it.

Why does the Store tab in the Uplay client disappear?

Users have reported that sometimes the Store tab from within the Uplay client disappears.

Official staff from Ubisoft stated in their forums that this is a temporary problem, and it will be fixed immediately.

Players weren’t very pleased with their answers, as you can see below:

Shouldn’t you guys try to fix it?? I really hope that “alternative” is temporary and a fix is on its way. Also, I just started uplay on its own and store didn’t show up, so its not only from steam or start of a game.

This is indeed a troublesome bug, since a lot of players don’t like the idea of going and making purchases through their browsers.

What makes the Store tab in Uplay disappear?

Further researched revealed why some user’s Store tab disappears.

Apparently , if you own Ubisoft games purchased through Steam, the Store tab disappears.

This happens so that you cannot buy DLCs for those games.

It would seem that there is an issue with purchasing the base game on Steam but trying to buy the DLC through Uplay.

This is because it will not transfer that content, treating them as incompatible.

While the explanation may be good enough, users suggested a different approach.

The suggested that instead of removing the Store app altogether, Ubisoft should filter out the said DLCs.

Fair enough, good reasoning to hide that tab. but, I reckon it would be better to maybe notify the user not being able to buy DLCs through uplay or even block buying DLC for that game that is owned or activated through steam.

One silver lining is that there is a solution if you own any Ubisoft games through Steam, but still can’t see the Store.

Apparently, it is just a visual bug, and simply restarting Uplay will fix the issue.

There is no telling when purchases made between the two platforms may become compatible.

Until then, you’ll just have to either buy all of your Ubisoft games through Uplay or through Steam.

How to fix Gears 5 crashing at startup

The long-awaited Gears of War 5 is here and many players are thrilled. However, the game didn’t work for everybody.

Quite a few users encountered an error that caused Gears 5 to crash on startup.

One user reported the following on the official forum:

Gears 5 is crashing on startup for myself after completing the easy anti cheat splash screen, then the gears splash screen, then it goes full screen with a black background for 1-2 seconds then force closes.

Many players have encountered this issue and no one knows how to fix it. The problem might be caused by a bug that the developers need to address.

How to remove Power BI filters in two easy steps

Users have reported that there is no built-in option for removing filters when using Power BI, and this makes it difficult to navigate, especially in very extensive files with tens or maybe even hundreds of filters.

My report has 12,541 rows and one of the applied filters on the report has filtered it down to 19 rows, now I want to get my report back to its original position ie; 12,541 rows.
I have tried many ways to clear the filter which I applied previously while working on the report. I have tried all possible ways to clear it however, the report isn’t removing the applied filter.

Steps to remove Power BI filters

1. Restart Power BI

Some users confirmed that restarting Power BiI fixed the problem. So, if you haven’t tried this solution yet, please do so as this may quickly fix your problem. If the issue persists, go to the next solution.

2. Create a custom “Removes Filter” button using Bookmarks

  1. Make sure all of your filters are clear before starting
  2. Create a bookmark of your current screen and name it Clear Filters
  3. Link the bookmark to the page
  4. Select Home
  5. Click Image, and upload a picture that will be representative to your task
  6. Place it in an area on your worksheet
  7. Name it Clear Filters
  8. Link the image to the bookmark you’ve previously created
  9. Perform whatever tasks you want, and press this custom button to clear all of your filters

You will basically be creating a “restore point” for your Power BI file. Thus, pressing the button you’ve just created will simply make the file go back to the previous state it was in, when no filter was applied.

Note: This can be considered more of a workaround, and you will have to repeat the process for each different Power BI file that share this issue.

What to do if your Xbox One shuts off randomly

Users are reporting that their Xbox One consoles appear to randomly shut down.

Some describe the problem as follows:

My Xbox one keeps shutting off. I can use apps to watch stuff just fine, but when i go to play a game, my Xbox will just shut off about 15 minutes in. My power brick isn’t turning red or anything.

If you are experiencing any similar issues, you most likely have overheating issues with your console.

More so, unexpected shut downs can happen because of faulty power supplies, or because of lack of storage.

FIX: My Xbox One keeps turning off by itself

1. Fix overheating issues

Like any other machine that has a fan inside meant to keep it cool,  your Xbox is bound to end up filled with dust at one point or another.

If that’s the case, consider doing a cleanse using a can of compressed air to blow out all the dust through the ventilation shafts.

One thing you should remember is that cans of compressed air can cause your fans to spin past their designed maximum velocity.

As such, try securing them with various objects ( pencils, toothpicks) so that the fans can’t spin and end up damaged.

You should also place your Xbox in an area of the room where it will have plenty of space around it for air to circulate.

Your Xbox One X shut down but you can’t turn it back on? We have the right solutions for you.

2. Check the power supply

  1. Make sure the power supply cable is in good shape
  2. Insure that the power outlet supplying the Xbox is functional
  3. Perform a power cycling by turning your Xbox off, unplugging it for 10 seconds, then plugging it back in and starting again.

3. In Xbox shuts down while streaming

1. Clear persistent storage

  1. Press the Xbox button
  2. Select System
  3. Navigate to Settings
  4. Choose Disc & Blu-ray.
  5. Select Blu-ray.
  6. Go to Persistent storage.
  7. Select Clear persistent storage.
  8. Turn off and unplug your console
  9. Wait 5 minutes.
  10. Plug in and turn on your console
  11. Start streaming the content again and see if the problem persists

2. Switch to a wired Internet connection

Various routers have internal settings that may cause your Xbox to suddenly shut down while streaming.

If you want to test whether that is the case , switch from using a Wi-Fi to a wired connection

4. Leave the serious issues to the professionals

Lastly, it could also be an issue with your console’s ventilator not working at full speed, or not working at all.

If that seems to be the case, do not make any attempts at opening and dismantling the console to clean it piece-by-piece yourself.

Not only would this render your Xbox‘s warranty void, but you may end up making things worse.

Instead, leave it to the professionals or service shops that are authorized by the original manufacturers.

Kibana Server is not Ready yet: 3 Quick Ways to Fix it

Known widely for handling large amounts of data, Kibana is a powerful visualization tool for transforming data into useful pie charts, line graphs, maps, and other forms.

Unfortunately, many users have until now inquired about it, saying that an error has been persisting and that the Kibana server is not ready yet. If the same error is creating trouble for you, follow the instructions given in this article to get rid of it easily.

What can I do if the Kibana server is not ready yet on Windows?

1. Update the Helm Chart values

  1. Firstly, you are to upgrade the values within the Helm Chart in the following way: helm upgrade -f new-values.yml {release name} {package name or path}
  2. The default values for yml for Elastic-stack Helm Chart can be found online.
  3. Replace ElasticSearch_URL environment variable concerning Kibana deployment as: kubectl edit deployment elk-kibanakubectl delete pod <elk-kibana-Pod-name>
  4. Wait until the newly applied values are executed properly by Kubernetes.

If you, while setting up ELK services, face an error, which says that the Kibana server is not ready yet, you can fix it by updating the values within the Helm Chart.

This should fix the Kibana server is not ready yet issue and Kubernetes should execute the values.

2. Delete the versioned indices

Another way to tackle this problem is by deleting the versioned indices and restarting Kibana. It involves the following stages.

Kibana Server Is Not Ready Yet
  1. Firstly, try to delete the versioned indices: curl -XDELETE https://localhost:9200/.kibana_1 systemctl restart cabana
  2. Restart.
  3. If still, this does not work, verify if you have a versioned index.
  4. If there is, delete the original .kibana: curl -XDELETE https://localhost:9200/.kibana
  5. Now, alias it as: curl -X POST "localhost:9200/_aliases" -H 'Content-Type: application/json' -d' { "actions" : [ { "add" : { "index" : ".kibana_1", "alias" : ".kibana" } } ] }'
  6. Restart Kibana again.

3. Match the versions of Elasticsearch and Kibana

Kibana Server Is Not Ready Yet

The simplest way to resolve this issue, in this specific case, is to match the versions of Elasticsearch and Kibana. Sometimes users facing this error are unaware that they are using two different versions of both programs.

So it’s crucial for the removal of this error that you must use the same version of Elasticsearch and Kibana.

Make sure that you are using both Elasticsearch and Kibana 6.5.0, as this will create harmony between both, thereby avoiding the possibility of many errors.

Why are there so many Uplay and Steam compatibility issues?

If you’re an avid fan of Ubisoft titles, you most likely have Uplay installed somewhere on your PC.

Uplay is a proprietary game distribution platform where you can buy Ubisoft games, DLCs and other content.

It is known that Ubisoft games can be brought through other gaming platforms as well, such as Valve’s Steam.

Is Uplay content compatible with Steam?

The problem is that players are reporting having issue with their Ubisoft content which they’ve bot through the other platforms.

An official post from Ubisoft’s support page shed some light on the matter:

In most cases, players will run into compatibility issues if they buy the game from Steam or from the Epic Games Store and the Season Pass (or any other additional content) from the Ubisoft Store.

So, if you’ve downloaded a Ubisoft game through Steam, it is strongly recommended that you also buy the DLCs from Steam.

They went on to add that:

Unless stated otherwise, the game and the content are not going to be compatible. This means that players will not be able to use the extra content they purchased in the main game.

So, unless the publishers clearly specifies that you can download a title and its content form multiple platform, try not to.

Generally, it is strongly recommend that players buy games and extra content for the game from the same digital store.

Players are speculating whether or not this is Ubisoft‘s indirect attempt as protecting it’s own IP.

More so, it seems Ubisoft has released no further comments on the matter for the time being.

Until (or if) this issue gets fixed, game content downloaded from two different platforms will be treated as incompatible.

This means that you need to pay again to get a full feature game on one of the platforms.

Microsoft Apps & Services want to take over Gmail emails

There are a lot or trustworthy email services out there, but unfortunately, the one hosted by Microsoft services aren’t exactly the most popular among them.

As such, it should come as no surprise when users came across a notification stating that:

Microsoft Apps & Services would like to read compose send and permanently delete all your email from Gmail.

A lot of users thought that maybe it was a joke, or maybe even the effects or a virus:

Is this legit or a virus? Don’t understand why it needs permission to permanently delete, etc.

Explanations were soon to follow, stating the Microsoft simply detected that they were using Gmail as their mail client and simply wants to take over.

More so, this in itself wouldn’t be much of an issue, but users reported that they can’t select “No” as an answer.

If they do so, they are usually prompted with an error message, as you can see below:

Thank you for responding so quickly. I am running Gmail through Outlook 2016 and have successfully done so for years. Based on your response, I shouldnt have to accept these permissions. But when I click “deny” I get the send/receive error.

Microsoft Apps & Services want to replace Gmail

What’s curious is that this only seems to happen to users that have Gmail account logged in Outlook. Those that use any other email service don’t seem to be affected at all.

All manner of solutions were tried, from uninstalling and re-installing Outlook, to using the client while “less secure access” is turned off.

Tired of looking at Outlook’s bland interface? How about you try these email clients instead?

As such, if you don’t want to see this error anymore, your only safe bet is to use the browser service of gmail, and use Outlook for pretty much every other email accounts you may have.

This seems to be just one of the many times Microsoft has tried to force features and updates onto users.

If history repeats itself, a pretty sure guess is that user outcry will be soon to follow.

Gears 5 campaign ending is raising a lot of questions [SPOILERS]

Before you start reading this article,  you should know the text contains spoilers. If you haven’t finished the campaign, bookmark this page to read our article later.

When it comes to the campaign mode, all versions of Gears of War were extremely interesting and they enjoyed high popularity among gamers.

Gears 5 is no exception, but the campaign ending raised some eyebrows. At the very end, you can save either JD or Del. So, the campaign can have two endings.

It is interesting to see what will happen in Gears 6. Developers might create two campaigns, one for each ending. Also, they might diminish the importance of these characters in the next campaign.

Gears 5 players are not happy with the campaign ending

Even if Gears 5 gives players a choice, quite a few people are upset with the campaign ending. They think this is a complication of the storyline that doesn’t add anything of value to the plot.

Also, some players said that this is a major downside of the game. According to them, they don’t have to choose between one or the other. This is the authors’ job.

Maybe the creators didn’t come to an agreement on which character should die, so they let the players decide.

However, the campaign ending might not be that important in Gears 6. Still, for the sake of the storyline, it should have some meaning. Otherwise, the authors would not have put this at the end of the campaign.

We don’t know what Gears 6 will have in store for us. So, it remains to be seen how the storyline will develop.

What’s your take on the Gears 5 campaign ending? What character did you save? Let us know in the comments section below!
