Fix Epson printers’ 0xE errors in just a couple of steps

Some Epson printer users might encounter 0xE errors when they try to print. Those printer errors can have 0xE1, 0xE3, 0xE5, oxE8 and 0xE9 error codes, which the Epson printers show on their own displays.

The fixes for those 0xE errors are often much the same. These are some of the potential resolutions for fixing Epson printer 0xE errors.

How can I fix a 0xE error on my Epson printer?

1. Check if any paper is jammed in the printer

The 0xE errors are often due to printer paper jams. Thus, removing the paper stuck in the printer can often resolve those errors. If the printer has a removable paper tray, remove it to have a peek inside. Open the lid on the printer to check if there is any jammed paper.

If you see paper jammed in the printer, turn the printer off and unplug it. You can often pull stuck paper out from Epson printers by removing their duplexers. Press the tabs to detach the duplexer from the printer. Then remove the jammed paper from the duplexer.

2. Reset the printer’s ink cartridges

  1. Some users might need to reseat their printers’ ink cartridges to fix 0xE errors. First, turn on your printer.
  2. To reseat the cartridge for an Epson XP printer, press the home button on it.
  3. Select the Setup, Maintenance, and Ink Cartridge Replacement options on the printer’s display.
  4. Press the OK and Start buttons.
  5. Lift the printer’s scanner unit up when the display shows a replace ink cartridge message.
  6. Squeeze the tabs on each cartridge to remove them.
  7. Then reinsert the ink cartridges one at a time. Make sure they click back into place.
  8. Close the printer’s scanner unit after reseating the cartridges.

3. Clean inside the printer

  1. The 0xE errors can arise due to debris and dirt within the printer. To clean inside the printer, turn off and unplug it first.
  2. Then open the top cover on the printer. Look for and remove any debris, such as small scraps of paper, foam blocks, or paperclips.
  3. Next, wipe away dust inside the printer with a soft, clean cloth. If there’s a lot of dust, you can dampen the cloth with a detergent for more thorough cleaning.
  4. Wipe the encoder strip that runs along the printer just behind the carriage to clean it.
  5. Close the top of the printer.
  6. Then plug the printer back in and turn it on.

4. Scan for malware

The 0xE errors can also be due to malware. For this reason, scanning your PC with a powerful antivirus software is highly recommended.

We suggest you to use a third-party antivirus with multiple layers of protection because these are typically able to detect threats quickly and accurately.

Make sure to run a thorough, full system scan and allow your security tool to remove or quarantine all threats found. Then restart your PC and see if you still experience the error.

5. Replace incompatible ink cartridges

Some users might need to replace incompatible ink cartridges. Have a look through your printer’s manual for further details about cartridge compatibility to check if the cartridges might need changing.

If an ink reference card came with the printer, have a look at that. If replacements are required, replace them with official Epson cartridges for the printer.

So, that’s how you can fix 0xE errors for Epson printers. If the printer is still within warranty, you can also return it to Epson for repairs (or a replacement model if needed). However, try fixing the 0xE issue with some of the potential resolutions above first.

Can’t shut down your Windows 7 PC? Try this

Despite officially being at the end of its life, Windows 7 is showing issues from the last update that Microsoft has delivered.

The last round of Patch Tuesday updates were also the last ones that would ever include Windows 7. Unfortunately, that update brought a really nasty bug that would replace a user’s wallpaper with a black screen.

Microsoft then released a series of off-schedule updates that would act as last-minute fixes for Windows 7. However, these came with their own fair share of issues.

For example, users have been reporting that they cannot shut down their Windows 7 PC since they are faced with the following error message:

You don’t have permission to shutdown and restart this computer

As you can imagine, this is quite a serious issue, since not being able to restart your PC comes with a whole world of problems.

What makes matters worse is that this isn’t an isolated case since many more users are facing these problems and many don’t know what to make of it:
Is it a virus or Window 7 issue. Even we are facing it

How do I fix my Windows 7 shutdown issue?

Users found various workarounds to this issue, which involved enabling User Account Control (UAC).
  1. Press Windows + R
  2. Type in gpedit.msc
  3. Go to Computer Settings
  4. Choose Windows Settings
  5. Go to Security Settings
  6. Choose Local Policies
  7. Select Security Options
  8. Select User Account Control: Run all administrators in Admin approval and enable itUser Account Control: Run all administrators in Admin approval
  9. Press Windows + R
  10. Type in gpupdate /force
  11. Reboot your PC

Note: This fix only works for users of Professional, Ultimate, or Enterprise versions

For more information on how to enable User Account Control, check out this detailed guide.

By following these steps, you should now be able to restart and shut down your Windows 7 PC as normally. Alternatively, you could also uninstall the last update you applied to it.

No word on whether Microsoft will fix this issue, nor if anyone has figured out what is causing it. The only certain thing is that the problem came after installing the last WIndow s7 update.

Download Windows 7 KB4539602 to fix black wallpaper issues

Back in January when Microsoft released the last official Patch Tuesday Updates for Windows 7, they delivered a bugged patch that caused user’s wallpapers to be replaced by black screens.

This bug was not well-received, especially in the context of it being the last update Windows 7 was to ever receive. More so, general concern stemmed from the fact that no one really knew whether Microsoft would address this issue.

And even those that believed Microsoft would fix it was worried they would have to pay for the patch, as part of the Windows 7 Extended Support.

Microsoft fixed Windows 7’s black wallpaper issue

Thankfully enough, Microsoft released a cumulative update outside of the normal Update schedule called KB4539602 and, it fixed the black wallpaper bug.

This update supports 32-bit and 64-bit Windows 7 SP1, Windows Server 2008 R2, Windows 7 Embedded Standard Edition, and other related versions.

Microsoft wants you to replace Firefox with Edge

As you may know, Microsoft started out the year 2020 with a series of major changes:

Speaking of the latter, their campaign to convince users to switch to their newer browser has reached a new height. It seems that as of recently, users would get suggestions in their Start Menu to replace Mozilla Firefox with Microsoft Edge.

The suggestion was first spotted by a Redditor who went to comment on the ad, having to say the following about it:

This must be the most cringing suggestion text I have ever seen in win10.

edge over firefox

Users aren’t pleased with Microsoft’s suggestions

This is just another step in their effort to make more and more users use their Chromium-based browser. At first, Microsoft would urge users to stop using Internet Explorer also through the Start Menu.

This wouldn’t be much of a big deal since both products belong to Microsoft, and it is only natural that they would guide you to a better and safer option. However, the fact that they are now suggesting it as an alternative to a third-party browser is quite controversial.

Suggesting that your product is better than others without actually giving a name is a common practice. However, the fact that these ads are specifically targeted towards users of a certain browser is quite interesting.

User backlash was soon to follow, as everyone was eager to support the poster’s opinion. Some even went on and added that:

I would understand if it said ”Still using Internet Explorer” but that is just nasty

They even commented on how Microsoft suggests you switch to Edge when you use the Start Menu‘s search function to look for Internet Explorer.downlaod edge

Microsoft hasn’t commented on this decision, nor did it offer an explanation on why it has specifically targeted Mozilla Firefox users. Whichever the case, the suggestion was not well-received.

The only bright side is that disabling Start Menu suggestions is quite simple, so you don’t have to see such posts any longer.

What’s your take on Microsoft‘s latest move against Mozilla Firefox users? Share your thoughts in the comments section below and we’ll continue the talk.

Microsoft looks to bring the news right to the side of your desktop with Project Newsbar app

There are many ways you can get your news these days, but a new app for Windows 10 might soon help you grab all the latest news right on your desktop and at quick glance. As spotted by WalkingCat, and reported by MSPoweruser, Microsoft’s News Team is working on a project known as Project Newsbar.

As the name of the app suggests, Project Newsbar works as a sidebar in Windows 10. The app isn’t yet available for download, but you can currently install it with a workaround. Once installed, you’ll get a sidebar on the right side of your screen. As configured by default, this sidebar will take up roughly 10% of your screen space, and push all your other windows to the left side of it. However, you can tweak it to automatically hide when not in use, and appear only on hover. There’s also an ability to hide the bar for 90 minutes, too, to put it out of the way.

Inside the Newsbar, you’ll see a list of top stories from Microsoft News, complete with images and two arrows that will let you scroll through the feed. Clicking a story, meanwhile, will open it in your default browser and take you to MSN News. There’s also a set of settings that you can configure. These range from the position, which monitor you want it to be placed on, and if you want it to autostart.

As this app is currently not available in the Microsoft Store, it’s not certain if or when Microsoft will release it to the public. Still, it’s really cool to see Microsoft working on such a project, especially during an election year when misinformation and “Fake News” can be a huge problem.

Stop the eavesdropping: Here’s how to password protect Office 365 files

It’s easy to protect a file or a folder in Windows 10, but did you know that you can also password protect a specific Office 365 file, too? This might be useful if you’re sharing a file with confidential information, or if you want to stop eavesdropping and keep the document away from someone who you might not want to see it. In our latest Office 365 guide, we’ll take a look at how you password-protect files from the Microsoft Office apps.

In Microsoft Word

Password protecting a Microsoft Word document is easy. All you need to do is head to the File ribbon, click Info, Protect Document, and then Encrypt with Password. Once you do that, you can enter a password and press OK. Keep in mind that passwords are case-sensitive, and can be a maximum of 15 characters long. It’s also important to note that if you lose a password, Microsoft Word will not be able to recover it. Make sure you write down the password or save it somewhere you’ll be able to find it.

In Microsoft PowerPoint

Just like protecting a Microsoft Word document, protecting a PowerPoint is easy. All you need to do are click through a few menus. You’ll want to head into the File ribbon, and click Info. After that, select Protect Presentation, and then Encrypt with Password. You’ll then want to enter the password in the Password box and click OK. PowerPoint will prompt you to confirm the password, and then you’ll need to save the file to ensure that the password takes effect.

Please keep in mind, though, that password protection isn’t supported in PowerPoint for ODP files. You also won’t be able to co-author any password-protected file that someone else is currently working on as the file will show up in a read-only mode.

In Microsoft Excel

Password protecting a Microsoft Excel Spreadsheet is more of a complicated situation. To prevent others from accessing data, or moving it around in a spreadsheet, you can lock cells and protect the sheet with a password. This can be useful if you own a worksheet, but only want team members to add data in specific cells only, without touching anything else.

Keep in mind though, that Worksheet level protection isn’t intended as a security feature. Also, protecting a worksheet is not the same as protecting an Excel file or workbook with a password. This is why we’ll start first with password protecting an entire Excel document. You can do this by clicking the File ribbon and clicking Info. you can then choose to Protect Workbook and choose Encrypt with Password. You can then enter the password and click OK.

In the event that you don’t want to protect an entire Excel document, you also can lock certain areas of an unprotected sheet. This ranges from not allowing others to see your formulas or ranges. You can do this by selecting the data range, right-clicking it, and choosing the Format Cells options. You’ll then want to clear the box where it says Locked. You’ll then need to keep the selection highlighted, and head to the Review tab. Choose Protect and then Protect Sheet and unselect what you want users to not edit.

Millennials prefer PlayStation but Gen Z like Xbox more according to new study

Early stats from MBLM’s Brand Intimacy 2020 Study (via Yahoo), which will be fully released on February 14th, show that, while Millennials rank PlayStation as their number one brand, those in Gen Z (individuals born between 1995 and 2012 according to the study) chose Xbox.

What’s interesting about this study is that it’s not about video game brands but brands in general which just goes to show how much gaming has become a part of modern life. It’s unclear why Millennials (1981-1996) claim to have a more emotional connection to PlayStation over Xbox though it could likely be a response to having such strong memories of the first three PlayStation consoles throughout their childhood.

Those in Gen Z connecting more to the Xbox brand is curious as Sony’s consoles have generally outsold Microsoft’s recently. It’s important to remember though that this study isn’t about how profitable a brand is but by the strength of its emotional connection to consumers.

So, while PlayStation consoles may be selling better, the Xbox brand appears to be doing a better job of creating positive experiences for consumers to latch onto. This could be related to Xbox’s prominence on Windows 10 devices, the Xbox Game Pass subscription service, the rise of the Mixer streaming service, support for backwards compatibility, or even its fun Xbox-branded merch like the Xbox Onesie and the Xbox Lynx body spray.

Xbox could also just be on consumers’ minds more than PlayStation since Xbox has had a stronger presence at E3 recently and also revealed its Xbox Series X console while all consumers have seen of Sony’s PS5 is its logo.

Let us know what you think the reasons are for the difference in the comments below and then follow us on Pinterest and Twitter for more Xbox gaming news.

How to Add a Dark Notepad to Windows 10

Windows 10’s Notepad is the platform’s default text editor that some users utilize for batch files and other coding. Notepad is, however, a little basic, with only limited customization options for text. Some users would prefer to have a dark Notepad, with a black color scheme, but Windows 10’s default text editor doesn’t include any dark theme options.

Windows 10’s dark option for apps has no impact on Notepad. Users can still add a black background to Notepad by clicking Ease of Access and High contrast in Settings and selecting the Turn on high contrast > High Contrast Black options.

That, however, also changes the whole color scheme in Windows, which is not ideal. So, most users will probably prefer to add alternative third-party text editors with dark themes to Windows 10 instead.

How can I add a Dark Notepad alternative to Windows 10?

Check Out the Black Notepad UWP App

The Black Notepad UWP app is a dark-themed version of the default Windows 10 text editor. Thus, it’s almost exactly the same as Notepad except for its alternative dark color scheme. Click the Get button on its MS Store page to add this app to Windows 10.

Add Black NotePad to Windows 10

Black NotePad is third-party text editor that retains the original features of Notepad. However, it’s not entirely the same as it includes additional options and features.

The most notable difference is its default dark theme that users can configure by clicking alternative color scheme options on its toolbar. Users can get this text editor by clicking Black NotePad on its Download Center page.

Customize the Theme for Notepad++

  1. Users can also select a dark theme for Notepad++ to add a dark Notepad alternative to Windows 10. To do so, click Download on that text editor’s download page to save its installer.
  2. Then open the Notepad++ setup wizard to install it.
  3. Next, open the Notepad++ window shown directly below.Notepad++ how to make notepad dark
  4. Notepad++ has a plain theme by default. To change that, click Settings > Style Configurator to open the window in the snapshot directly below.

  6. Users can also modify more specific UI element colors by selecting them in the Style box. Then click the color boxes to open palettes for them.
  7. Click the Save & Close button.

Select the Notepad Alternative to be the Default Text Editor

  1. After adding one of the above software to Windows 10, configure it to be the default text editor. To do that, right-click a text file and select Open with.
  2. Click Choose another app to open an open this file window. The Choose another app option how to make notepad dark

Ssh_exchange_identification: Connection Closed by Remote Host [Fix]

While using an SSH client to connect to your server, you may encounter some ugly errors. One such error is the ssh_exchange_identification: connection closed by remote host in Windows. The error appears on other operating systems as well.

This error can occur due to many reasons, including the SSH keys used for a connection being corrupt or issues with the server. Keep reading to find out how you can fix things when a ssh connection is closed by a remote host immediately!

How do I fix connection closed by remote host?

Before we move to the slightly complex solutions, verify these first:

  • This error can also occur if your server is under heavy load. Check if the server has enough resources to do the task or if it is under brute force attack.
  • Increasing the amount of connection SSHD can run to resolve the issue.

If none work, head to the fixes listed next.

1. Check for missing dependencies

This ssh_exchange_identification: connection closed by remote host Windows error usually occurs after a Glibc or OpenSSL update and the server fails to restart.

While many distros can install the update to Glibc or OpenSSL and not require a restart, yours may not fall in the same category.

If you know the update for the Glibc is installed, use lsof to see where the SSHD has open files. For those using Ubuntu or Debian, use the upgrade command to get new packages and install them. This will help fix any issues that may have occurred due to broken packages.

2.  Check for extra SSH sessions

ssh_exchange_identification: connection closed
  1. Try to clear up the old sessions and then reconnect to the server.
  2. At any given time, you should see only one or two users logged in. To check if there are multiple instances of SSH running, use the following command:who
  3. If there are more than two users logged in, then kill the user processes one by one.
  4. Reconnect to the server using SSH and check for any improvements.

It is possible that the users may have exceeded the maximum number of SSH sessions without knowing it.

This ssh_exchange_identification: connection closed by remote host error in Windows or Linux occurs if the SSH can’t keep up with a script that starts multiple SSH sessions back to back. You can also delay the SSH session with the sleep command.

3.  Check for corrupted fingerprints/keys

  1. Remove the server-side fingerprint in the clients ~/.ssh/known_hosts and try again.
  2. When you re-connect, you will be prompted to accept the host identity. Accept and proceed.
  3. This error can also show up if the files  /etc/ssh/*key*  are removed, and SSHD is not restarted. Check the SSH configuration directory for the key files.

If the issue persists, check for corrupted fingerprints or keys. This is most likely to happen if you have installed these files manually.

Once done, find out whether the connection is still lost after the ssh_exchange_identification connection closed by remote host lost connection error. In all likelihood, things should be up and running.

Before you leave, find out some quick and easy tips to improve the performance of your Windows PC.

Microsoft Azure helps an Indian port set new standards for ease of doing business

Microsoft has collaborated with Kale Logistics to enable the digital transformation of Tuticorin Port, the fourth-largest container terminal and a major all-weather port in India. Now known as V. O. Chidambaranar Port Trust, the Tuticorin Port is one of the first ports in India to completely digitally transform and automate its operations and processes.

Located strategically close to the East-West international sea route in the southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu, traffic at the port has increased by 25 percent in the last five years and with burgeoning traffic, the port faced operational challenges. The port handles over 34 million tonnes of cargo every year and among 1,350 vessels, more than 550 container vessels berth at the port every year, offloading and on loading as many as 1,568 containers.

Powered by Microsoft Azure, the digitization of the Tuticorin Port has helped reduce documentation, digitally streamline movement, and considerably reduce carbon emissions.

According to J David Raja, President, Tuticorin Container Freight Station (CFS) Association, a port is a premium place for containers. The higher the dwell time or wait time at a port, the higher is the cost for everyone involved – the port authorities, the shipping lines, the exporter or importer. The V. O. Chidambaranar Port Trust reached out to Kale Logistics Solutions, a Microsoft partner focused on the logistics industry, to find a digital solution.

And then, CODEX was born. The Container Digital Exchange is a single-window platform where information from all relevant parties is captured digitally and made available to any entity that required it. Given that traffic at ports could be seasonal and subject to global, economic factors, it was critical that the platform could scale up or down easily.

Given the strategic national importance of ports, there are elements of data security, safety, reliability that come into play. We also considered the traffic seasonality that ports have and needed to optimize on cost during non-peak times. Therefore, we decided to go with Microsoft Azure for its ease of deployment, support, security, scalability, and cost optimization.

– Vineet Malhotra, Director, Kale Logistics Solutions

The adoption of CODEX unlocked multiple benefits that have not been experienced in any other port in India. With all the data being digitized, it reduced documentation errors significantly and Kale Logistics integrated the taxation system into CODEX as well. Additionally, with trucks spending less time with every container, their fuel consumption has come down from 15 litres to just 8 litres that has led to the port cutting down carbon emissions by 75 percent.

The solution is now being evaluated by the Ministry of Commerce and the Ministry of Finance for implementation at other ports in India.

Coronavirus could delay Xbox Series X, PlayStation 5 releases, according to analyst

While there hasn’t been any official news from either Microsoft or Sony, some Wall Street analysts believe the lockdowns and quarantines to mitigate the spread of the China-based Coronavirus may affect the production of next-gen consoles, Xbox Series X and the PlayStation 5.

According to a report from Nikkei Asian Review, Terry Goud, founder of Foxconn, spoke with reporters in Taipei just days before the province of Wuhan was locked down for quarantine by Chinese authorities, saying “We are considering whether or not to let employees return to China after the Lunar New Year holidays.”

Now that shutdowns, due to the coronavirus, are a reality for an increasing number of factories in China, analysts from the Jefferies Group have been expounding on how the length of a shut down could affect the gaming industry among others.

“The video game sector is currently manufacturing, or beginning to, a once-in-several-years’ product generation change for the 2020 holiday season,” a note from Jefferies Group published this week says. “If [company] shutdowns exceed a month or so, game schedules will be delayed. New consoles may likewise suffer supply issues from a prolonged disruption, ahead of their Fall 2020 planned launches.”

In late 2019 the World Health Organization declared the nCoV strain of the virus a public health emergency that affects an international population, especially countries with “weaker health systems,” if spread beyond the borders of China.

Since the declaration, the coronavirus is estimated to have infected up to 25,000 individuals across 20 countries and resulted in 490 deaths.

With an outbreak underway, companies have been issued a mandate by the Chinese government to shut down and remain closed until explicitly notified otherwise. Manufacturers such as Foxconn and Chongqing Changan Automobile are shutting down for an extended time which could reak havoc on planned production of US and international consumer goods, such as AirPods, new shoes, clothing, and automobiles among many others.

Companies such as Apple, Telsa, Disney, Nike, and Nintendo are already feeling some minor effects of plant and theme park shutdowns due to quarantines and more lockdowns are planned to go into effect as the Chinese government and the WHO attempt to limit exposure.

With that being said, it doesn’t seem all that unreasonable to believe that Chinese sourced parts for the Xbox Series X and the Playstation will slow down, if not outright, stop being produced until it is safe for workers to return to their factories which could in turn, slow down or outright stop the plan releases for the consoles later this year.

Anecdotally, it seems Foxconn has devised a plan to expedite the prevention and recovery process from the coronavirus by now shifting its production focus to creating surgical face masks.

Folder Doesn’t Open on External Hard Drive? Try This

It is common to use two hard drives on a PC nowadays. Usually, you keep the faster SSD as your system drive, while the slower ones can be kept for storage.

However, if you use a laptop or both the SSD and the HHD are full, an external HDD can do the trick. However, with extra space and portability comes a new set of possible issues, some of which users have already started reporting:

I just purchased an HP Pavilion All in One with Windows 10. I have an external hard drive with all my pictures and stores business documents. This is one folder for my Ho Association that I cannot open  . Did change properties on that one, and was able to open, but now cannot opens any subfolders ” you don’t currently have permission to access this folder”.

Since this is a pretty common issue among users, we’ve created a step-by-step guide that will show you exactly what needs to be done to fix it.

How do I get my external hard drive folders to open?

1. Make sure the folders have all the proper permissions

1.1 Change folder permissions manually

  1. Open File Explorer
  2. Open the external hard drive
  3. Locate the folder that gives you the error message
  4. Right-click the whole folder and select Properties
  5. Go to the Security tabsecurity advanced
  6. Select Advanced
  7. Depending on your account type, make sure you give yourself full control over the folderfull permissions
  8. Select Apply
  9. Restart the PC
  10. Try opening the folder again

1.2 Change folder permissions via command line

  1. Press Windows + R
  2. Type in cmd.exe
    • This will open the Command Prompt
  3. Type in the following lines, and press Enter after each ones:
  • takeown /f Path_And_File_Name
  • icacls Path_And_File_Name /GRANT ADMINISTRATORS:F
    • The file path changes depending on where your external hard drive and the folder are located.

Looking for an external HDD with lots of space? Check out our article for some top picks.

2. Make sure the folder isn’t corrupted

  1. Press Windows + R
  2. Type in cmd.exe
  3. Type in the following line, and press Enter:

  • File type not supported: Though Dropbox supports most file formats, there are some it doesn’t. And when trying to upload a file that’s not supported, you may receive an error.
  • Corrupt or large cache: If the Dropbox cache gets corrupted or is too big in size, you are likely to encounter issues while uploading files.
  • Account suspension: Many users realized that an account suspension prevented them from uploading files to Dropbox.

How do I fix Too many requests error on Dropbox?

Tip icon Tip
Since the error can be encountered on all devices, including a desktop, tablets, and mobile phones, we have listed solutions that can be applied across them all.

Before we move to the slightly complex ones, here are a few quick solutions to try:

  • Restart the device and the router, and then try uploading files to Dropbox.
  • Make sure the device has a stable Internet connection.
  • Verify if the file you are trying to upload to Dropbox is infected with malware because, in that case, the Too many requests error may appear. Use a reliable antivirus solution to scan the files before uploading.

If none work, move to the fixes listed next.

1. Check for account suspension

If the users cross the allowed limit of 20 GB bandwidth, Dropbox automatically suspends the account for policy violation. The over-usage ban stays in effect for 24-72 hours. With each violation, the suspension time increases.

Check if you have received any bandwidth use violation alert in the Dropbox account or email. If you have multiple violations, you may have to wait a few days to remove the suspension.

According to Dropbox, upgrading to the Plus plan will remove any suspension, along with increasing the bandwidth size to 200GB/day.

2. Check for copyright violations

If the file shared by you is reported by someone as part of a DMCA request, Dropbox will show the Too many requests error. This usually happens with Dropbox files that are shared publicly.

Make sure the file shared by you doesn’t have any copyright claim. Sharing pirated or illegal content can lead to permanent account suspension.

3. Check if the file link is disabled

  1. Login to Dropbox account.
  2. Go to the Shared links page.
  3. Click three dots beside the link with the error, select Link Settings, and again choose Link Settings.
  4. Make sure Disable downloads option is off.dropbox disable download
  5. Now try to reaccess the links and check for any improvements.

If you have disabled the file link, you may come across the Dropbox Too many requests error. So, make sure the link you are trying to share is enabled.

4. Create new shared links

  1. Login to your Dropbox account.
  2. Go to the Shared links page.
  3. Click on More (…) besides the link with the error, and select the Delete link option.
  4. Now create a new shared link for the file.

If you rewound your Dropbox account recently, your shared link may stop working. To fix this, create new shared links, and you shouldn’t come across the Too many requests error in Dropbox anymore.

Before you leave, check some quick tips to increase the Wi-Fi speed in Windows and get faster uploads and downloads.

Fix: User Profile Sync is not currently provisioned

Some users have reported that when they try performing a profile sync in SharePoint, they get one of the following messages:

  • User Profile Service is started
  • User Profile Service Application is started
  • Forefront Identity Manager Service is started
  • User Profile Synchronization Service is started
  • Forefront Identity Synchronization Service is started

If you too have encountered any of these issues, continue reading the article below for the best and fastest solutions.

How do I fix the user profile synchronization error?

Set the User Profile accordingly

There are a couple of conditions that need to be met before you try a profile sync:

  1. Make sure the user is the member of:
    • The farm administrator group
    • The local system administrator group
  2. Before trying a sync, restart the timer service
  3. Make sure that you have Delegated Active Directory replication with general permissions all to the user.
  4. To make these changes, go to active directory server and follow these steps:
    • Open ADSI edit
    • Connect the active directory server
    • Right-click and go to Settings
    • Select a well known naming context and select the configuration from the drop-downprofile sync sharepoint
    • Expand the configuration and right-click on it
    • Go to Properties and select the Security tab
    • Add the user profile synchronization user in the security
  5. Make sure that the user has read the Read and Replicate Directory Changes permissionReplicate Directory Changes permission.
  6. Change the logon user of the two services to user profile synchronization user
  7. Go to SharePoint Central Administration
  8. Navigate to Application Management
  9. Select Manage Service Application
  10. Click the User Profile Service Application section and go to Permission and add the user profile synchronization user.sharepoint profile sync 2
  11. Add the user profile synchronization user in the administrators alsosharepoint profile sync
  12. Give full permission to the newly added user

By following these steps, you should no longer receive any error messages when trying to sync a profile. Although the steps may seem a bit complicated at first, they are pretty much the only thing you could do.

Lenovo Yoga C940 15″: A better desktop replacement than practical 2-in-1

Lenovo is back at it with refinements to its Yoga C class series of laptops. In 2018 Lenovo brought us a Dolby Atmos powered soundbar hinge that put audio at the center of the C930 experience, and in the fall of 2019, the company followed up its C930 with the C940, wait for it, 15-inch.

That’s right, the C940 has gotten a screen bump from last year and now comes in a 15-inch variant with much of the same design and functionality of the C930 in tow.

2018 vs. 2019

The focal point of the C930 was its impressive new take on a 360-degree hinge. Lenovo did away with its standard 3-point double bracketed 360-hinge, or the patented “watchband” setup and instead opted for a single triangular soundbar able to output evenly in various configurations. In 2019, Lenovo managed to pack more battery and a larger screen into the 940 while adhering to the same winning design of the C930. In the end, anyone loving the C930 but reliant on 15 and 16-inch model laptops to be productive, have now had their wishes come true.

Back in 2018 when I reviewed the C930, I found the sound experience to be outstanding for a laptop.

As a small anecdotal comparison, I normally have to turn the volume up to 60 (using Microsoft’s proprietary volume controls) or beyond on most devices to achieve what I was easily able to at 35 on the C930. The sound never became distorted or whispy when listening. Lenovo has done a great job at producing really clear mids with this speaker as well as offer solid bass performance without it edging into an artificial hollow territory. The sound on the C930, in my opinion, has more clarity than on the Surface Laptop, more base than the latest MacBook Pro, and is more robust in sound than any other laptop on the market.

In 2019, the experience remains the same. The C940’s soundbar contains a similar two tweeter, down-firing woofer, and a vibration buffering set up that produces bigger and less tinny sound when watching Netflix or listening to Spotify. While I typically listen to Podcasts during my day, there are occasions where the C940 15-inch served as my office radio for a more eclectic listening experience.

While many reviewers have compared and awarded the listening experience to Apple’s new 16-inch Macbook Pro, I still find the sound of the C940 to be preferable in my anecdotal review. While the 16-inch Macbook Pro does handle bass a bit better than the C940, Lenovo’s offering offers a less muddled sound than the Macbook Pro, in my opinion. The C940 consistently produced cleaner and fuller sounds in the high and mid categories.

However, Lenovo isn’t attempting to just sell the C940 15″ as a standalone speaker.

Weight. Battery. Screen.

At a little over 4lbs, the C940 comes in considerably heftier than its predecessor and its competition in the market outweighing the Macbook Pro by almost a pound and the Dell XPS by 3/4’s of one.

However, the extra weight comes with a 69-watt hour battery capacity which enabled me to get roughly 8 hours works days out of the device. With the C940 pushing a 4K VESA-certified DisplayHDR panel with “ultra-narrow” bezels at 500 nits at 15.6-inches, the extra battery capacity was appreciated day in and day out during my review.

According to Lenovo’s website, the brightness level of the C940 could produce up to 50% brighter outputs than standard SDR displays; I did not notice that much of a difference between brightness on the C940 and the C930, to be honest.

Precision Cut

Unlike the C930 2018 model, the C940’s finish feels less refined with sharper edges around the lid and keyboard deck amongst the noticeable differences. The C940 does adhere to the smooth aluminum unibody finish as its predecessors and also comes in an identical muted dark grey color.

At the top of the C940 is the etch branded webcam lip that enables users to ideally, pop open the lid with a single finger while also creating a cut out to put a 720p webcam into, without sacrificing space for a thinning bezel profile.

The Power

At the end of the day, the C940 15-inch should be used more as a desktop replacement than a true portable 2-in-1. It is neither light nor 2-in-1 friendly thanks to the increase in screen size. One-handed use was almost entirely out of the question for me, but where it makes up for its deficiencies as a 2-in-1, is in the specs department.

With a 9th generation Intel Core i7-9750H and up to six-core 45-watt CPU the performance was excellent. I was able to fly through download and upload of Power BI reports, Excel Docs, large PowerPoint presentations and even run a few machine learning test in a VM environment before exporting the data to Azure in under 3 mins.

The Yoga C940 15” comes configured with Intel’s 9th generation Core H-series processors designed specifically for high-performance laptops. The H-series processors are powered by six cores that boast desktop-class performance – perfect for power users or content creators who need extra horsepower for their daily tasks.

I’m not a videographer, so I can’t relay the reads and writes speeds of encoded video to and from the device, but for the rest of you, multiple Chrome and Edge tab usage combined with a few proprietary work and web apps all running on a relatively stable Fast Ring Insider build went mostly unnoticed (which is a good thing.)

However, what didn’t go unnoticed was the fan.

Routinely, the C940 would blast past 45 decibels as it roared to life like a jet engine on Windows 10 build installs, battery charging, torrent or content downloads and more.

With that being said, whenever the device was lapable, it maintained an even temperature while the fans pumped out warm air in multiple directions.

Gaming

Instead of standard integrated graphics, the Yoga C940 15” is equipped with NVIDIA’s GTX 1650 with Max-Q graphics. Apparently, this is to help further boost the performance capabilities of the device.  While thermal management is one of the biggest engineering challenges with high-performance laptops, NVIDIA’s Max-Q graphics cards address this hurdle by striking a balance between thermal output and performance, for the most part.

The Max-Q technology targets the peak efficiency of a system and is supposed to intelligently limit the power ceiling to avoid generating too much heat.

On the whole, it works as advertised, for short bursts of gaming.

Pen. Keyboard. Bioauthentication

As with the C930, the C940 also comes with Lenovo’s rechargeable Integrated pen in its very own dedicated slot on the device. Flipping the device over reveals a slot on the bottom half of the laptop.

Sadly, Lenovo is doing away with the Pen’s springboard mechanism and instead, users will need to use their fingernails to pry out the pen. The Integrated Pen maintains the same 4K pressure and sensitivity points which make for a great low latency writing experience. I was able to make a few doodles and jot down some notes with the pen, but not much more.

As with most new Windows 10 PCs, there are bio authentication methods, namely the fingerprint scanner, as an IR camera was seemingly left out of development. While a bit maddening for someone coming from a Surface or Dell XPS, the shortcomings of doing without IR blasting and retina recognition is easily conquered after a few days of handling the C940.

What I couldn’t get over was the keyboard and touchpad set up. I get that this is a beast of a workstation and I appreciate the numeric keypad being addressed and built right into the device.

However, shifting over the mousepad to one side was something I never really got over. I continually wanted to reach to the center of the C940 to move and navigate objects onscreen and had to take an extra beat to remember to shift my hand placement over.

Perhaps, for ergonomic reasons that align with the inclusion of the numeric key configuration but it was an experience that rang a sour note during my testing.

Along with what I think is a misplaced keypad was the tactile feel of the keypad, that, after months of use felt out of alignment with the rest of the palm deck. The left-clicking area remained repressed and sunken under the ridge of the trackpad mount. Clicking the trackpad was mostly a fine experience but there were occasions where clicking it either resulted in wildly inaccurate responses or no responses at all.

Summary

In the end, Lenovo pushed out a refresh of the Lenovo 930 with a slightly larger 15.6-inch screen, heavier build design and famed rotating soundbar hinge. The specs are up to date and will remain relevant for the foreseeable future. However, the convertible 2-in-1 design seems wasted on the C940, due in part to increase in size and weight. When spec’d out to the max, the C940 is probably best served as a portable desktop option that occasionally makes it off the desk and into a living room, board room or conference room.

Who is the C940 for?

Anyone who wants a premium 15-inch plus laptop that checks off the fundamental features of a modern desktop workstation. Decent battery life, larger more vibrant screen, latest Intel chips, included pen, bio authentication and a sound experience that is second-to-none on anything that isn’t a dedicated speaker these days.

How to automatically download Outlook images on Mac

Outlook is a popular email client that is being used across multiple platforms for its simplicity and features. However, to protect the users, the Outlook client for Mac by default requires you to download the email images manually.

But what if you want to make Outlook download images automatically on Mac?

For privacy reasons, Outlook does not download email pictures by default. By embedding a hyperlinked image, the sender can trace your IP address, provided that the sender is good at what they do.

In this article, we discuss how you can make Outlook download images automatically on Mac irrespective of whether the sender is in your contacts or not.

How can I enable auto image downloading in Outlook for Mac?

Outlook download images automatically Mac

  1. Start the Outlook client.
  2. Select Preferences from the menu bar.
  3. Click on the Reading entry.
  4. On the reading page, select “in all messages” for “Automatically download a picture from the internet” under the Security section.
  5. Alternatively, you can also download images from the email received from your contacts. For that, select “in messages from my contact” option.
  6. Save the changes and exit the Preference window.

Start the Outlook client and open an email that has images in it. All the images in the email should automatically download and load now.

According to Microsoft, Outlook for Mac doesn’t automatically download pictures or photos in email messages if the images are stored on the Internet. This is to help the user prevent leaking of personal information or even alert the sender that your email address is active.

Although you can change this setting in the Preferences, it is recommended to allow automatic downloading of images only from your saved contacts.

Office 365 subscribers in the US can now enjoy some free services from Microsoft’s partners (updated)

Office 365 subscriptions already have plenty of value thanks to 1TB of OneDrive storage, free Skype minutes, and more, but it’s about to get better for a few people. Indeed, Microsoft is now promoting that Office 365 Home & Personal subscribers can now enjoy some freebies and benefits from their partners.

(Update: unfortunately, due to the single use tokens attached to these links, they do not work correctly when directly linked from this post, so we’ve removed them)

Currently, on our end, we’re seeing two specific benefits. This includes three months free of Epic! and a complimentary 3-month pass to curated classes from CreativeLive. For those that are unfamiliar, Epic! is an online subscription service that gives millions of families and classrooms instant, unlimited access to thousands of books, videos, and quizzes from leading publishers. CreativeLive, meanwhile, is an online education platform that broadcasts live classes to an international audience.

You can see which benefits are available for you by signing in with the email linked to your Office 365 account and visiting Microsoft’s landing page here. The Epic! offer requires no credit card, and the CreativeLive offer requires signing in with a Microsoft Account. CreativeLive’s offer also includes the CreativeLive Starter Pass, which unlocks 300+ hours of creative classes.

Overall, these partners and their services line up perfectly with the educational and family audience that Microsoft targets with Office 365. Please be aware, though, that this looks to be a limited-time offer only. The Epic! Offer is valid through February 29, 2020. CreativeLive, meanwhile, is valid until February 29, 2020. The offer also appears to be only available in the United States.

Fix: Unable to download file could not be written to the cache

When trying to print a report from MYOB AE, you could encounter the error Unable to download. The file could not be written to the cache.

This also happens while attempting to generate a schedule within a Client Accounting – Assets period or when trying to download a PDF file using Internet Explorer.

You can’t just sit there and do nothing. You have to take action and solve the impossibility to download files. Speaking of which, be sure we’ll do our best to help you get to the bottom of it.

How can I fix the download file not written to cache error?

1. Uncheck Do not save encrypted pages to disk

  1. Launch Internet Explorer on the affected computer.
  2. Select Tools from the menu bar.
  3. Select Internet Options from the drop-down menu.
  4. Then, click the Advanced tab.
  5. Scroll down to Security options.
  6. Under Security find where it says Do not save encrypted pages to disk and uncheck the option.
  7. Click Apply, followed by OK.
  8. Restart the PC for these latest changes to take effect.

Internet Explorer has a few great security features. That’s one of them. Refer to the above steps even if it’s recommended to keep this box checked.

Internet Explorer will start saving encrypted pages containing secure information to the cache. This includes passwords and credit card numbers, which may sound a bit insecure.

However, it sounds like a compromise to think of when it helps getting rid of the problem.

2. Start Internet Explorer in No Add-ons mode

  5. Test Internet Explorer to verify that it works correctly and you can download files.
  6. If you need to, enter into Internet Options > Manage Add-ons and enable or disable each add-on to identify which one is creating problems.

This procedure allows Internet Explorer to temporarily run without any add-ons. So, it is useful when you want to troubleshoot incompatible browser add-ons or extensions and root out your download file error.

3. Double-check server settings

Cache-Control
This issue may also occur if any one or both these conditions are true:

  • The server sends the Cache-Control: No Store header.
  • The server sends the Cache-Control: No Cache header.

Knowing the core of the matter, also make sure that the server does not send the Cache-Control: No Store or the Cache-Control: No Cache header. This can be useful if the server is currently disallowing the caching of content.

If you’re still dealing with the issue and you use a proxy server, ensuring you have configured your Proxy Server to work with MYOB AE/AO might also help.

New Microsoft advisory will detail Chromium security updates for the new Edge browser

Microsoft has released a new security advisory support document that will provide users a record of all security updates for its Chromium-powered web browser that was released last month. Users of Microsoft’s new browser will be able to keep track of security batches, and see how fast vulnerabilities are patched especially when compared to its rival Google Chrome.

The advisory only lists one entry as of the time of this writing, listing four vulnerabilities identified by CVE (Common Vulnerabilities and Exposured) which were patched on January 17. The listing documents the specific version of Edge that fixed the vulnerabilities (79.9.309.68), which is based on the Chromium version 79.0.3945.130.

Microsoft Edge Version Date Released Based on Chromium Version CVE
79.0.309.68 1/17/2020 79.0.3945.130 CVE-2020-6378, CVE-2020-6379, CVE-2020-6380, CVE-2020-0601

As noted by ComputerWorld, Google released the same patch for Chromium on January 16, which is just one day before Edge received the same treatment from Microsoft, possibly suggesting that Redmond giant is looking to keep the gab between Chromium and Edge updates as slim as possible. Google’s update listing mentions eleven vulnerabilities that were patched, identifying only four of them by CVE. The CVE numbers listed also matched that of the Edge listing.

Still, Google has just released Chrome 80.0.3987.87, which provides as many as 56 vulnerability patches, 37 of which are CVE-identified. Microsoft still has yet to update Edge to the same version, although the company has made a commitment to provide regular updates to its Edge Stable branch every six weeks.

Are you confident in the security of the new Chromium-based Edge? Feel free to leave your thoughts about Microsoft’s new browser below.

How to chat with Skype in Office for the web

If you’re working on a file using the Office web apps, then you have a collaboration feature that you might not know about. Whenever someone is editing a document alongside you in Office for the web, in either Word, Excel, PowerPoint, or OneNote, you’re able to have a chat with them in Skype. This lets you settle issues with the document, followup with them, and more. Here’s how you can use it.

Where to find the Skype chat button

To chat with Skype in the Office Web Apps, you’ll first want to make sure that you’ve shared a link to your file. You can share a link to a file by opening the File Menu, clicking Share on the left side, and clicking where it says Share with People. Change the permissions to Anyone with the link can edit and then click Copy Link.

Once the link is shared, you should see an icon that shows you that someone is editing with you in Office for the web. It will show up in a similar way to the picture above. Once ready to chat, click the blue Chat icon to open the chat pane. You’ll then be able to type in the text box at the bottom of the pane to have a conversation.

Taking the Chat on the Go

When using Skype on your phone or from the web, you’ll be able to continue the chat, even if away from your document.  According to Microsoft, the chat should carry over to your list of Skype chats, with the name of the file showing up as the name of the chat. However, if you’re editing with people who don’t have an Office 365 subscription, they won’t have a chat pane in the document when they’re in Office for the web.

Just one way to collaborate

Chatting with Skype in the Office Web Apps is just one way to collaborate with your coworkers. Another great way is to try out Microsoft Teams, which we’ve previously covered here. We’ve also got other helpful guides and how-to’s around Office 365 as well, so feel free to check it out. And, remember to drop us a comment below letting us know how you collaborate in Office 365.

Fix: The calendar folder cannot be found

Those that are part of a work environment probably know the Microsoft Office Suite by heart, and all of its components. Since group work involves communication, Microsoft Office even included a program that acts as a personal information manager and email client.

This program is called Microsoft Outlook, and as of now, it is one of the most popular and most used collaborative tools in existence.

quick steps issues

However, Outlook is still software, and software can have occasional bugs. For example, users have been reporting an error message when trying to use Quick Step:

Because of the issues, Outlook users can no longer use Quick Step to do the following:

  • Create a task with attachment
  • Create a task with text of a message
  • Cre ate an appointment with attachment
  • Create an appointment with the text of a message

How do I fix these Quick Step issues?

1. Make sure the primary account’s settings are right

One thing you need to understand about the issue is what is causing it.  As you may know, Outlook does not synchronize the Calendar or Tasks folder with the server for IMAP or POP accounts.

Because of that, if the primary account is configured as an IMAP or POP email account, a Calendar or Tasks folder is created locally. This makes it so that these features can still be used within Outlook.

The only problem with this feature is that non-primary IMAP or POP accounts don’t have these folders created, and any attempt to interact with these folders by using Quick Steps will generate this error.

As such, your best bet to avoid this problem is to not configure the primary account as an IMAP or POP email account

2. Update Windows to the latest version

Many users reported that this issue came along right after they performed a system update. As such, try updating your Windows 10 PC to the latest version.

  1. Press Startoutlookoutloo
  2. Go to Settings
  3. Select Update & Security
  4. In the Windows Update menu, select Check for updates
    • If an update is already pending for install, the button will be labeled Download now
  5. Perform the update
  6. Reboot your PCwindows update

3. Use Tasks instead of Quick Step

This is more of a workaround, but it is very similar to Quick Step in that it saves you some time.

  1. Click the Move icon in Home toolbar
  2. Then you have the choice to select Tasks
  3. Click and your email is converted(moved) to a task and deleted from the inbox
tasks instead of quick step

This procedure also works for moving emails to your calendar and is very similar to using Quick-Step.

4. Use a different email client

While Outlook is indeed very popular, that doesn’t mean that it is also the best. If you still can’t get the Quick Steps feature to work, maybe you should consider using a different email client.

We recommend trying reliable third-party software that supports IMAP and allows you to manage your emails, files, and tools with ease – from one inbox.

Fix common Hyper-V replication errors on Windows 10/11

There are two types of error codes that can be produced by any software – a known error message (if the event is caused by a specific known reason), or a generic error message (if the event is caused by an unknown issue).

No matter what the details of the situation are, it is very useful to have either a known or a generic error code. This will allow you to perform troubleshooting and try to stop this behavior.

The Hyper-V Replica was designed to work the same way. In today’s article, we will explore some of the most commonly known and also generic error messages, that relate to the replication process of Hyper-V. Read on to find out more.

How to deal with the common replication errors in Hyper-V

1. Hyper-V prevented starting virtual machine because it is prepared for failover

error prevented starting virtual machine because - hyper-v replication errors

This error message classifies as a known error message. It is a message caused by the VM on which the Planned failover was started being turned off at the Primary Server, and turned on at the replicated server.

The only situation in which the VM is turned on at the Primary Server is if replication is not working properly. Because virtual machines can not be turned on at the Primary server, this error can be ignored without any concerns.

2. Hyper-V is not in a state to accept replication on Replica Server for virtual machine <VM Name>not in a state to accept replication - Hyper-V replication errors

When the replication process is completed and you click the Finish button inside the Hyper-V setup wizard, the main server creates a rule (GUID) for the Replica Server which will allow the software to check for any duplicated Virtual Machines.

The error is produced if the VM finds another virtual machine already configured with the same GUID.

3. Failed to perform the operation. Hyper-V is not in a valid replication state to perform the operationnot in valid replication state to perform operation - Hyper-V replication errors

This error occurs if there is any maintenance done at the Primary Server while you are completing the Replication Wizard.

There are two main possible reasons for this issue:

  • Your Primary Server is not configured to be a Replica Server (to fix it you will need to configure the server properly)
  • Your firewall service is blocking the access of Hyper-V on Replication Server (to fix it you will need to whitelist the Hyper-V app on the Replication Server)

4. Hyper-V Failed to resolve the Replica Server namefailed to resolve the replica server name - Hyper-V replication errors

This error is caused either by a problem with the name you set for the server or if you used an IP Address or NetBIOS name instead of using an FQDN format. Changing the name or format will fix the issue.

Conclusion

In today’s article, we explored some of the most commonly known and generic Hyper-V replication error messages.

We hope this guide offered you a comprehensive overview of the issues that can create these errors.

Fix: CPU doesn’t reach Turbo Speed

One good way to see if your PC is up to speed is by performing a stress test. This will basically overload your system components so that you can monitor and see what are the limits, while still being in a safe zone.

This is somewhat similar to overclocking, only that you never actually go beyond the component’s maximum designed capabilities.

As far as processors go, they usually have a normal running speed and a Turbo Speed that is usually a bit higher but still low enough to be used longer periods of time without any danger.

However, some users reported that their PCs are incapable of reaching Turbo Speed, or at least that is what their monitoring software is telling them:

Hi guys, just installed my new i5 7400. I just did a stress test, temperatures never goes past 61, everything else looks ok. In the bios it says turbo targeted speed is 3500, but my cpu never goes past 3.3?Do you guys have any idea why this is happening?

The explanation is pretty simple, and since it is something many of you will run into anyway, we’ve created this guide to show you exactly what needs to be done.

How do I make my CPU reach Turbo Speed?cpu no intel turbo boost

One of the reasons you do a stress test is to see what your PC is capable of. If you see that your CPU is not reaching the Turbo Speed that it boasts having, try performing a stress test on each individual core at a time.

Note: the Turbo Speed values are usually for each individual core, and not the collective power of the CPU. In fact, stress testing will often result in lower values than the Turbo Speed or even the normal speed.

That being the case, simply use whatever stress test or overclocking software you have and set it to test each individual core at a time.

The reasoning behind this is because individual cores are actually the ones that need to be faster, because of the single-threaded devices that use them.

Multi-threaded devices can run using multiple slower cores without much difference. However, single-threaded devices need powerful singular cores to be fast and responsive.

Conclusion

Whenever you buy a computer, no matter how cheap it may be, it is still a serious investment. That being the case, if you do go for a mid-range or high-end PC, you should at least know you are getting your money’s worth.

So, if you see that the stress test reveals sub-par results, simply go for a single-core stress test and you will most likely see the expected results.

Save as Dialog Box Not Showing? 4 Ways to Fix it

You struggled for a few minutes to make the Save as dialog box appear in Windows 10, but it’s still not showing. Chances are you’ve accidentally unchecked the Always ask before opening this type of file in the file download dialog box.

Well, when you first download a file, this file download prompt should open up. If you happen to clear the checkbox, your choice will be automatically made every time you download the same type of file, and the prompt will no longer be displayed.

Besides, this preference is saved in the user part of the registry. Also, the configuration is stored in a separate registry value for each file type. If the Save as dialog box is not showing in AutoCAD or Photoshop, keep reading to find out the solutions!

What can I do if the Save as dialog box is not showing?

1. Reset the dialog box to default

  1. Press Windows + R to open Run, type cmd, and hit Ctrl + Shift + Enter.
  2. Click Yes in the UAC prompt.
  3. Paste the following command and hit Enter:reg delete "HKCUSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsShellAttachmentExecute{0002DF01-0000-0000-C000-000000000046}" /va /fcommand to fix save as dialog box not showing

If you have disabled Always ask before opening this type of file during previous file downloads, then run this quick command to fix things if the Save as dialog box is not showing. You should then see the file download prompt each time you download that type of file.

2. Enable Automatic prompting for file downloads

  1. Launch Internet Explorer, and click the gear icon to open Tools.
  2. Go to Internet Options, and navigate to the Security tab.
  3. Here you’ll find four security zones listed:
    1. Internet
    2. Local Intranet
    3. Trusted sites
    4. Restricted sitesinternet options
  4. Click the zone where you want to change the settings.

  6. You can also check the option to Delete Personal Information.
  7. Finally, click on Close in the confirmation dialogue box.

Once done, verify whether the Save as dialog box is still not showing in Windows. If that’s the case, head to the last solution.

4. Perform a clean boot environment

  1. Press Windows + R to open Run, type msconfig, and hit Enter.
  2. Navigate to the Services tab, tick the checkbox next to Hide all Microsoft services, and then click on Disable all.disable serivces
  3. Go to the Startup tab, and click on Open Task Manager.
  4. For each startup item, select it and click Disable.
  5. Close Task Manager.
  6. Click OK in the System Configuration window.
  7. Finally, restart your computer.

If this fails to resolve the issue, you can also try performing a clean boot of Windows 10. You just need to be signed in as an administrator on your PC to access these settings.

Note that your computer may temporarily lose some functionality when performing a clean boot. However, when you start it normally, the functionality returns.

By now, you should have the Save as dialog box in Windows if it didn’t earlier.

Before you leave, find out how to increase the Internet speed and get quicker downloads.

KB4532695 Reported Issues: BSoDs, sound problems, and more

For those of you that are constantly updating their Windows PC, you probably already know about KB4532695. This cumulative build was released the second round of updates of the year 2020 just two weeks after Patch Tuesday.

It is available for Windows 10 version 1903 and Windows 10 version 1909 and it is mostly composed of fixes.

However, Microsoft simply did a patchwork, since, for every issue they fixed, another one would emerge.

Common bugs and issues in KB4532695

1. Outlook mailboxes disappear after installing KB4532695outlook banner

Users reported that once they installed KB4532695 , all of their Outlook mailboxes would disappear from the Windows Mail client, while all the other mailboxes would be unaffected.

Unfortunately, the only fix to this problem is either uninstalling the update, Using Outlook for the Outlook mailboxes, or going to Outlook.com on your web browser.

For more information on the matter, check out this article we’ve written back when the update was just launched.

2. File Explorer still doesn’t work as intended

While this particular cumulative update did primarily address the File Explorer issue that has been plaguing users for months, it still didn’t manage to make it work perfectly.

For example, users stated that:

For example, it takes two clicks at times to reset the caret position, stopping you dead in your tracks.

While uninstalling the update would be the firs thing you would like to try, remember that thiswould just bring back the more severe File Explorer issues mentioned earlier.

3. KB4532695 fails to install properly

Users reported that when they tried updating using KB4532695 that it would fail once it reached 100%, showing an error code 0x80070490.

If you too have encountered this issue, check out this step-by-step guide for a solution to your problem.

4. Bluescreens of DeathKB4532695 bsod

Probably the worst error one can get on a Windows PC, it seems that Bluescreens of Death are also a package deal when installing KB4532695.

If you too have this issue, your only option is to boot your PC in Safe Mode and uninstall the update from there.

5. Display driver issues

Many users complained that installing the latest cumulative update would leave them without any sound:

This installed and now i do not have any sound. I have two different sources. HDMI cable and soundcard. neither works now. In device manager and sound settings is all good, no issues. just no sound. I have not changed anything, just updated windows and now no sound!!

Additionally, others reported that their display drivers were affected since they could no longer use the Extended Display feature.

6. Issues with launching games

Probably related to the display driver issue, some users experience problems when trying to launch games, as they would either just get a black loading screen or no response at all.

However, once they removed the update, everything seemed to work fine again.

7. Slow boot times

Some Windows customers reported that after installing KB4532695 their boot times dramatically slowed down.

Installed this in an Intel NUC8i3BEH and encountered very slow boot times. Windows would get stuck at splash or welcome screen for around 5 minutes.

As with all the other issues, only uninstalling the update can fix the problem.

These are the most important issues that have been reported with KB4532695. The list is quite extensive and the fact that it was meant to be more of a bugfix update makes things all the more ironic.

Whichever the case, Microsoft should listen to their users’ outcry and try and solve as many of the issues as possible, since the February Patch Tuesday updates are just around the corner.
