The modified permissions cannot be saved error in Outlook

Microsoft Outlook is a part of the much larger Microsoft Office Suite and acts as the de facto email client.

The problem is that some users have been reporting problems with Outlook.

I’m trying to edit the permissions on a shared calendar to give “delegate” permission to the calendar, and to remove an old entry from the list of users. Neither change will save, I get an error that says “modified permissions could not be saved”.

Unfortunately, this isn’t a circumstantial problem, as others are having similar issues revolving around Outlook not saving permissions.

I have a user that has 2 names in his delegates list that are terminated users no longer in the address book. When he tries to remove these users and save delegate changes in Outlook, he gets the error “The modified permissions cannot be saved”.

Microsoft moderators were quick to respond and came up with a solution

How can I get my Outlook to save modified permissions?

This step revolves around your granting, applying, and then removing Delegate access.

This action will then force a re-write of the Access Control Lists at the mailbox level, which will then propagate to the folders.

1. Use Outlook’s settings

  1. Open Outlook
  2. Go to File
  3. Select Account Settings
  4. Click on Delegate Access
  5. Click Add, and then click a random user from the global address list field
  6. Go to the Permissions page
  7. Click OK
  8. Choose Apply
  9. Click OK again
  10. Go back to the File tab
  11. Click Account Settings
  12. Golick Delegate Access
  13. Remove the user that you added in step 5
outlook the modified permissions cannot be saved delegate access

2. Use the Registry Editor

These same steps can be achieved in a different method as well:

  1. Press Windows + R
  2. Type in regedit.exe, and then click OK
  3. Locate and then click the following key in the registry:
  • HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftExchangeExchange Provider
  • You may have to create the registry path.
  1. Go to the Edit menu
  2. Click Add Value, and then add the following registry value:
    • Value name: DS Server
    • Data type: REG_SZ (string)
    • Value data: FQDN of the global catalog server
  3. Open Outlook
  4. Go to File
  5. Select Account Settings
  6. Click on Delegate Access
  7. Click Add, and then click a random user from the global address list field
  8. Go to the Permissions page
  9. Click OK
  10. Select Apply
  11. Click OK again
  12. Go back to the File tab
  13. Click Account Settings
  14. Go to Delegate Access
  15. Remove the user that you added in step 5

3. Use third-party email client software

Another solution would be to use a third-party email client service to make the changes you want. Outlook supports IMAP, an internet protocol that allows users to access their email messages from several different devices, using third-party software.

Adjusting to a new service should not be very difficult. There are many alternative email clients with productivity features similar to those you find in Outlook.

On top of that, most modern email clients allow you to access multiple accounts from one unified inbox. This will make it easier to navigate throughout your messages and save you some time.

Many options on the market include translation features, spellcheckers, advanced contact lists options, and more.

Just make sure to get an email client with powerful encryption and a straightforward privacy policy.

By following one of these solutions, you should be able to get rid of any Microsoft Outlook delegate issues.

FIX: This website is not properly configured

Anyone who has ever tried accessing a website either as the site owner, or a visitor and got an error message stating that ‘This website is not properly configured‘ will be pleased with the details here.

In most cases, everything appears to be rightly configured but whenever an attempt to access that particular site is made, this error shows up.

Not to worry, this article addresses this issue from two points of view and then provides helpful tips to get the problem resolved.

This error message could show up for several reasons, and to address it, a walk-through approach is needed. The suggested approach can be put to use by site owners, administrators, and to a certain extent by visitors.

For site owners experiencing this error, these are the things you should be looking out for:

  •  The website and its contents may have been deleted or disabled
  • A temporary domain name is still configured for use, and the user is trying to access the site using the proper address
  • The Domain’s DNS is pointing to a stale Internet Protocol address, despite the fact that the IP address of the website has changed
  • The user is  attempting to access the site using a secure address (https://thewebsite), but a Transport Security Layer (TSL) or Secure Socket Layer (SSL) certificate has not been installed for the website.
  • All directories and files associated with the website have been deleted.

How do I fix the website is not configured properly error?

1. Try a different browser

If you come to the conclusion that the issue is not server-sided but client-sided, then maybe you should try a different browser instead.

We recommend you try Opera One because it is lighting-fast, has an enormous library of extensions, and you can customize the overall look of the browser in however way you see fit.

More so, it is very stable, and this is because of the Chromium engine it is built from, allowing for updates to flow in constantly.

It is also very secure, thanks to the built-in ad-blocker and VPN, so malware and spyware will surely no longer be the cause of future issues. Plus, it also has a built-in AI.

⇒ Get Opera One

2. Clear browser caches and cookies

Getting rid of browser cookies, caches, and history in Advanced Browser Options will do a great deal of help in resolving this website is not properly configured error.

To clear browser’s caches and cookies, Windows users could use extensions (add-ons) or developer tools.

Using the developer tools is an efficient method to clear cookies and caches but using extensions can make the process a lot easier.

Extensions are available for browsers like Chrome and Firefox. Unfortunately, Internet Explorer does not have add-ons that clear caches and cookies; hence, the Developer tools are used.

To make use of IE developer tools on windows, follow these steps:

  •  Click Settings at the top right corner and select F12 developer tools.
  • Alternatively, click F12 on your keyboard
  • Now, hold Ctrl key + D, and the cache should be cleared

If all of this seems too complicated and you don’t want to delete the wrong data by mistake, you should go for a dedicated PC cleaner.

Dedicated memory cleaner software will scan your browser and find any unnecessary temporary files, cache, and cookies. It will let you know what can be removed.

Upon your approval, it will safely erase all this data, allowing your browser to run smoother and with fewer errors.

PC cleaners can also help you with leftover files in your PC, scan and fix your registry, and other similar procedures that can help you maintain your PC and help it run at its full potential.

3. Check browser configurations

An important step is to ascertain the state of your browser (IE, UC browser, Mozilla, Chrome, Safari) and fix it appropriately.

Reset your internet setting to default, and try revisiting the website, the error should now be resolved. Check proxy settings and ensure that it is set to detect proxy settings automatically.

4. Try accessing the website Incognito or InPrivate

Opening the site Incognito or InPrivate should also fix “this website is not configured” error. To visit a site Incognito using Chrome browser:

  • Click Customize and control google chrome (three pins) at the top right corner. Alternatively, hold Ctrl+Shift+N
private window chrome
  • Then Select New Incognito window
  • Type in the website’s address, pressEnter, and you should be good to go
Incognito window confirmed

For other browsers, you will find Incognito or InPrivate in the advanced menu dropdown.

5. The IE Developer Tools Option

  • Resolve DNS Problems
  • Troubleshoot and Configure your DNS servers.

In general, DNS issues are known to be the logical initiators of “this website is not configured” error.

These DNS problems could come as any of these:

1. A stale DNS resource record in your local machine
2. A stale DNS resource record in your Internet Service Provider’s Server.

Fix a DNS resource issue in your local machine

If the stale record is on your local machine, flushing your local DNS cache will just fix the error.

After clearing your local DNS cache, your computer will then request for a new value from your Internet Service Provider’s DNS server the next time you attempt to access the internet or the particular website.

Admin command prompt

To flush your local DNS cache, follow these steps:

For Windows users– Windows 7

1. PressWinKey + R to bring up Windows Run dialog box
2. Type cmd into the dialog box and press Enter to open Command Prompt
3. In the cmd window, type ipconfig/flushdns and press Enter

For Windows users– Windows 8, 8.1, 10:

1. Press WinKey + Q, and type cmd
2. Right-click on Command Prompt and choose Run as Administrator
3. Type ipconfig/flushdns in the Command Prompt Window and press Enter

You can also use the following commands in addition to ipconfig/flushdns:

  • ipconfig/registerdns
  • ipconfig/release
  • ipconfig/renew
Note icon NOTE
Ensure that the terminal in use is connected to a network before initiating these commands.

This is the message that will be seen with  the success of the command prompt: “Successfully flushed the DNS Resolver Cache.”

Resolve A stale DNS resource record in your Internet Service Provider’s Server

Now, if the stale DNS record is in your ISP’s DNS servers instead, mere flushing your DNS cache will do no help. Try these fixes instead:

1. Try using an alternative DNS server
2. Wait for the ISP’s cache to expire after 24 hours

Having tried the above tips and suggestions, this website is not properly configured error should be gone, and the site should now be accessible.

However, domain owners experiencing this issue can leave a ticket with their hosting service provider if the problem persists.

FIX: Windows Media Player cannot open WAV/MP3/MP4/AVI/MKV

Although Windows Media Player is becoming increasingly outdated, quite a few users still utilize it for playing videos and audio.

However, the reality struck when users see that Windows Media Player cannot open WAV, MP3, MP4, AVI, MPG, MKV, and MOV videos and music for some users even though the software supports those file formats.

Why can’t I play video/audio files on Windows Media Player?

1. Switch to a different video player

While Windows Media Player is still a solid video player and it does come preinstalled with the Windows OS, it lacks many of the tools and features that third-party video players have. That’s why you may need to change your media player.

For instance, some of the best universal video players for PC come with more advanced libraries that let you create and manage your media files into easy-to-find collections and folders.

Some alternatives may even support more media formats and even recover and replay damaged files.

The good news is that when it comes to user experience, alternative players are generally just as straightforward.

Among other additional features that most third-party software offers we have to mention subtitle libraries, advanced audio settings, and support for 4K, 5K, and even 8K resolutions.

2. Fix corrupted video files

Sometimes the reason behind a video not being played back is not the video player, but the file itself. As such, if you notice that multiple video players don’t work on it, then maybe you should consider performing a video file repair.

There are several ways to fix corrupt files in Windows 10. You can use the SFC or the DISM tools, replace the files yourself, or use the system restore.

These will most likely help you solve the issue, but they are quite time-consuming and require minimal computer knowledge.

If you want to make sure that you safely fix your corrupt files and do not create any additional risks, we recommend you use dedicated video file repair tools.

They are easy to use and support multiple formats. In just a few steps, you will be able to recover and replay your media files.

3. Open the Video Playback Troubleshooter

  1. Open Windows 10’s search utility with the Windows key + S hotkey.
  2. Input troubleshoot as the search keyword, and select Troubleshoot settings to open Settings as shown directly below. The Troubleshoot window windows media player cannot open WAV/MP3/MP4/AVI/MKV/MPG/MOV files
  3. Select Video Playback and click Run the troubleshooter to open its window below.Video Playback window windows media player cannot open WAV/MP3/MP4/AVI/MKV/MPG/MOV files
  4. Users can then select three alternative troubleshooting options.
  5. As the first two options seemingly do not exactly pertain to Windows Media Player not playing video files, click I want to continue with this troubleshooter to initiate it.

First, check out Windows 10’s Video Playback troubleshooter, which might come in handy for fixing Windows Media Player’s video playback.

4. Install the K-Lite Codec Pack

Windows Media Player still needs a K-Lite Codec pack to ensure it plays even all of its supported file formats ok.

To install K-Lite, click Mirror 1 or Mirror 2 on the Download K-Lite Codec Mega page. After downloading it, click K-Lite_Codec to open the pack’s installer.

Then users can go through the setup wizard to install the codec.

5. Reinstall Windows Media Player

  1. To reinstall WMP, open the Run accessory by pressing the Windows key + R hotkey.
  2. Then users can open the uninstaller window by entering appwiz.cpl in Run and clicking OK.Programs and Features window windows media player cannot open WAV/MP3/MP4/AVI/MKV/MPG/MOV files
  3. Next, click Turn Windows features on or off to open the window shown directly below.Windows Features window windows media player cannot open WAV/MP3/MP4/AVI/MKV/MPG/MOV files
  4. Double-click Media Features to expand it.
  5. Deselect the Windows Media Player checkbox.
  6. Click OK to uninstall WMP.
  7. Restart Windows after uninstalling the media player.
  8. Open the Windows Features window again.
  9. Then select the Windows Media Player checkbox.
  10. Click OK to reinstall the software.

Reinstalling Windows Media Player might resolve playback issues for both video and music.

By following these steps, you should be able to watch movies again, but whether this is with the Windows Media Player is entirely up to you.

FIX: Microsoft Photos crashes when printing

Photos is Windows 10’s default image viewer that users utilize to browse images libraries and print pictures. However, some users have stated that Photos crash when they try to print with that app.

The app closes a few seconds after those users select to print. These are some of the resolutions that might fix a Photos app that crashes when users select its Print option.

How can I fix Windows 10 Photo app crashes?

  1. Use a third-party alternative to Windows 10 Photos
  2. Select the Repair option for Photos
  3. Reset Photos
  4. Reinstall Photos
  5. Restore Photos’ default libraries
  6. Reregister the Photos App
  7. Print images From Windows Photo Viewer

1. Use a third-party alternative to Microsoft Photos

If you can view photos with Microsoft Photos without any issue, but get the crash when you try to print them through it, then your only solution is to use another program through which you give the Print command.

Since you’ll not be working just with common file formats like JPG and GMP, you’ll need a tool that can handle pretty much any type of image file.

There are many third-party photo software that integrate slideshow and view features, as well as some editing and printing tools.

You will for sure be able to find a good photo printing software that will offer exactly what you need.

Dedicated tools offer support for printing in bulk, adjusting file size to perfectly fit the frame, and printing extra-large posters and banners.

2. Select the Repair option for Photos

  1. Open Cortana’s search utility with the Windows key + Q keyboard shortcut.
  2. Input apps within the search box.
  3. Click Apps & features to open Settings as in the snapshot directly below.
apps and features Microsoft Photos crashes printing
  4. Select the Microsoft Photos app and click Advanced options.
    repair microsoft photos printing problems
  5. Click the Repair button to fix the app.

Photos users can select a Repair option that will fix corrupted files for that app. That’s certainly an option worth noting for fixing the Photo print crash.

3. Reset Photos

  1. Click on the Start menu.
  2. Type Apps & features.
  3. Select the app that you want to reset.
  4. Click on Advanced options underneath the app.
  5. Then click the Reset button.
  6. Confirm your request and that’s it.

Some Photos users have confirmed that resetting the app’s data can fix the printing crash. Users can do that by following the aforementioned steps.

4. Reinstall Photos

  1. Open Cortana’s search box.
  2. Input Powershell in the search box.
  3. Then right-click PowerShell and select Run as administrator.
    • Click Yes if a dialog box window opens.
  4. Enter Get-AppxPackage *Microsoft.Windows.Photos* | Remove-AppxPackage in PowerShell to uninstall Photos.
    powershell photos app printing crashes
  5. Restart the desktop or laptop before reinstalling Photos.
  6. Then click Get (or Install) on the Microsoft Photos page to reinstall the app.

If the above resolutions don’t fix Photos’ print crashes, try reinstalling the app. However, users can’t reinstall built-in Windows apps in the same way as third-party UWP apps.

5. Restore Microsoft Photos default libraries

  1. Open File Explorer with the Windows key + E hotkey.
  2. Click Libraries on the left of File Explorer.
  3. Right-click Pictures and select Properties to open the window shown directly below.
    picture properties photos app crashes
  4. Press the Restore Defaults button on that window.
  5. Select the Apply option, and click OK to close the window.

Photos crashes can often be due to its Picture library source. Thus, restoring Photos’ picture library to its default settings often fixes the app crashing. Users can restore Photos’ default source by following the steps above.

6. Reregister the Photos App

  1. Reregistering Photos will reregister the app with its user account.
    • To do that, press the Windows key + X hotkey.
  2. Select Command Prompt (Admin) to open an elevated Prompt window.
  3. Input this line in the Command Prompt, and press the Return keyboard key:
    • PowerShell -ExecutionPolicy Unrestricted -Command "& {$manifest = (Get-AppxPackage *Photos*).InstallLocation + 'AppxManifest.xml' ; Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register $manifest}"
      command prompt photos app crashes
  4. Restart Windows after reregistering Photos.

7. Print images from Windows Photo Viewer

  1. First, open File Explorer by pressing the Windows key + E hotkey.
  2. Open the folder that includes the image.
  3. Right-click the image to print and select Open with to open the context menu submenu shown directly below.
    open with photo app crashes
  4. Users can select Windows Photo Viewer to open images with that software.
  5. Then click Print to print from WPV.

Windows Photo Viewer is the default image viewer in earlier Windows platforms.

Users who have upgraded to Windows 10 from Win 7 can still open images within WPV instead of Photos and print them from there. Follow the guidelines below to open and print an image with WPV.

Those users who haven’t upgraded from an earlier platform to Windows 10 can also open and print images with WPV. However, users need to edit the registry to restore WMP in Win 10.

Some of the above fixes might fix a Photos app that crashes when printing. Remember, however, that there are also plenty of alternative third-party image viewer software users can print pictures from instead.

IrfanView, XnView, and Fastone Image Viewer are three of the best alternative image viewer software. Make sure to leave us some feedback in the comment section below.

FIX: Flash drive files become shortcuts

USB flash drives overtook CDs and DVDs a long time ago. They offer great reading and writing speeds, are quite compact, and these days you can find them in large sizes.

But, there’s that one small advantage which disks have and that’s the fact USB drives are quite susceptible to malicious threats.

One distinctive virus will hide all files you stored on your USB flash drive and add their shortcuts only.

This seems scary, as the first guess is that your data is gone. It isn’t. We’ll show you how to retrieve it below.

How do I retrieve USB files from their shortcuts?

1. Scan for malware

As mentioned, the problem might be caused by corrupted data on the USB stick.

You can use any given third-party tool to scan for malware, but make sure it has the latest virus database.

A quick scan won’t be enough, so make sure to run a deep scan to make sure each and every file on your device is verified.

We recommend you get antivirus software with multiple layers of protection because these are proven to offer the best security for your device.

Also, make sure to use a security tool with a strong firewall and a good privacy policy. You will find good options that check all these boxes and come at really good prices or even for free.

2. Use Command Prompt

  1. Do not plug in the affected USB until all preparations are made and, obviously, don’t format it yet, either.
  2. Then, enable the hidden files.
  3. Download and extract Autorun Exterminator.
  4. Run the tool and plug in your USB flash drive. (The utility will remove all autorun.ini files and protect you from possible malware spread.)
  5. Now, right-click on Start and open Command Prompt (Admin).
  6. Copy-paste the following command in the command line and press Enter (don’t forget to replace f with your USB flash drive letter):
    • attrib -h -r -s /s /d f:*.* files copied to usb become shortcuts
  7. After you run this command, you should be able to see all hidden files on the USB.

3. Use the USB Fix tool

Another way to remove a possible virus infection on the USB is to use a nifty third-party antimalware tool, this time dedicated only to this type of devices.

It’s possible that classic antivirus tools don’t detect specific malware that attacks external storage, hides all data, and creates shortcuts for all files instead.

This software we recommend is called UsbFix and it specializes in resolving virus-caused issues like the one we’re addressing here.

Follow these steps to use UsbFix and resolve the problem:

  1. Download UsbFix. (If your antivirus blocks it, disable antivirus temporarily.)
  2. Plug in your USB flash drive but don’t open it.
  3. Run the UsbFix.exe.
  4. Click on Deletion and wait until the tool finishes.
  5. Open your USB flash drive and, hopefully, your files will be there, untouched.

4. Format your USB drive

  1. Plug in your drive and backup all files.
  2. Right-click on the USB flash drive and choose Format from the contextual menu.
  3. Select Quick format and select Fat32 as the drive format.
  4. Wait until the device is formatted and voila, you can use it again without problems.

This means that you’ll have to start from scratch with copying files on the stick, but at least you now know that it is a clean device.

Take a look at this article, as well, where we explain what to do if the files on your USB disappear.

With that said, we can conclude this article. Hopefully, these steps were helpful and you’re finally able to retrieve your files while cleaning the malicious threat in the process.

Make sure to tell us in the comments whether the above-mentioned steps helped you or not.

How to fix low FPS on game startup

The FPS (frames per second) rate can have a big impact on games’ gameplay when it drops. FPS rates aren’t always consistent as some Windows users have found that their frame rates are somewhat lower when they start games up.

The frame rates might drop to 10-20 FPS on some games’ startup menus. These are a few resolutions that might fix low FPS frame rates on game startups.

How do I fix low FPS in games on startup?

Update or reinstall the Graphics Card Driver

  • You can open Device Manager by pressing the Win key + X hotkey.
  • Select Device Manager on the menu to open its window below.
  • Click Display adapters and then right-click the listed video card to open its context menu.
  • Select Properties to open the window shown directly below.
  • Click the Driver tab to open further options.
  • The driver date on that tab tells you when it was last updated.
  • Press the Update Driver button on that tab if the driver hasn’t had any recent update.
  • Then you can select a Search automatically for updated driver software option to find a more updated driver.
  • Uninstall Device is an alternative option you can select on the Driver tab.
  • Press that button to uninstall a driver that might be corrupted.
  • Windows will automatically reinstall the driver when you restart the OS.

Launch games with Game Booster software

Dodgy or outdated graphics card drivers can certainly have an impact on frame rates. Windows Update usually automatically updates graphics card drivers so you shouldn’t need to.

However, anybody who has switched the update service off should check for graphics card updates.

Alternatively, you can fix a corrupted graphics card driver by reinstalling it. Device Manager is the window to open for updating or reinstalling drivers.

Use the Alt + Tab Hotkey

This is a basic, but effective, fix for raising the FPS rate during a game’s startup. When you launch a game, press the Alt + Tab hotkey to return to the Windows desktop.

That opens the Alt + Tab switcher with which you can reopen the game. When you return to the game, its FPS frame rate will usually jump up.

Check for New Updates

Developers release updates to fix issues in their latest games. Some updates might fix known FPS issues. For example, SEGA released an update to fix a frame rate bug in Vanquish.

Check the games’ official websites for new updates from which you can then download and install patches.

Background software and processes always reduce system resources for games. Whether your games have low FPS rates or not, you should always free up RAM before launching them to ensure they run smoothly and reduce potential system conflicts.

There are a few game booster, or launcher, software that automatically optimize Windows when you launch a game.

Razer Cortex: Boost is a renowned freeware game launcher for Windows 10/8/7, and some Razer users have stated that it dramatically boosts FPS rates.

One of the best things about the software is its Game-Boosting mode that automatically closes superfluous background processes when you open a game from Cortex’s library, the Start menu, Steam, Origin or a desktop shortcut.

Furthermore, the software also includes a FPS counter and stats tools.

Those fixes might boost your games’ startup FPS rates and ensure they stay consistent with the average frame rate. For some more general tips to increase frame rates, check out this Windows Report article.

Halo: Infinite game review | Finish the fight

It’s hard to believe that it has been 6 whole years since Halo 5: Guardians. It’s such a prevalent property, with so many spin-offs, re-releases, and extended universe media that rarely a month goes by without someone talking about Microsoft’s flagship franchise. With the release of Halo: Infinite, 343 Studios are aiming to return Halo to its roots while somehow simultaneously bringing the series forward into the modern era. And by the Prophets, they’ve very nearly done it.

Looking back now, Halo 5: Guardians was a little hit and miss. The introduction of Spartan Locke as a secondary playable character was almost as controversial a decision as making us play as the Arbiter in Halo 2. Not because Locke isn’t a great character or integral to the franchise, but because he’s not the Master Chief, arguably one of gaming’s most popular and enduring heroes.

And the horse you rode in on

What Guardians did with its story didn’t please everyone either. The gaps between Halo 4 and 5 were bridged to varying degrees of success and failure by side content; novels, short films, web series, etc. For those who had never indulged in the extended universe, it was borderline confusing and a little frustrating. Infinite does its best to rectify that, telling a story that feels connected to the broader universe but which can largely stand-alone.

We wouldn’t go so far as to say that prior knowledge isn’t required, but the story told here feels clear, concise, and purposeful for the most part. It begins with our heroic Spartan getting his heavily-armored butt kicked up and down a UNSC ship named the Infinite by a hulking Brute war-leader known as Atriox. He leads the Banished at this point, a grab-bag of ex-Covenant war-bands made up of almost all the franchise’s previous enemy races.

Displeased with the Covenant and intended to unearth the secrets and lethal potential of a new Halo installation, the Banished are laying waste to multiple systems at the behest of an overbearing, almost deified puppetmaster known as the Harbinger. Picked up by a stranded UNSC soldier who has been drifting in space for years, the Master Chief seeks out a new AI companion and heads off on a quest to find Cortana, wresting the new installation from the Banished, and maybe, just maybe, finish the fight.

Flawless cowboy

What follows is a campaign that can only be called “sublime”. This is Halo at its finest, and a stark reminder of exactly why this franchise is so highly regarded. It’s the best campaign since Reach, and in fact surpasses it, delivering an almost perfectly paced mix of open-world exploration and do-or-die bombast.

Once you set down on the Ring, you’re presented with a large map filled with enemy-controlled FOBs (Forward Operating Bases). Eradicating the resident Banished places them under UNSC control, and allows the various scattered marines you find to hold them, providing fast travel points and highlighting areas of interest in the immediate area.

You can of course simply follow the critical path by heading to the yellow objective each time, but you’d be missing out on so much more. There are squads of marines that need assistance, Banished strongholds to take down, collectibles to find everywhere. From cosmetics for your multiplayer character to Halo’s legendary Skulls (modifiers that change critical elements of the gameplay), audio logs, and high-value targets, every area is a smorgasbord of things to find and do.

Full contact safari

And yet, it never feels bloated. It never feels like you’re doing things for the sake of doing them. Everything earns you Valor, which can be used at FOBs to call in vehicles, weapons, and support, while simply exploring the map is its own reward. It’s stunning on PC or console, but play this game on something powerful and it will absolutely sing.

The skyboxes are phenomenal, the iconic ring stretching off into the heavens, with that sense of a paradise under siege as prevalent here as it ever was in a Halo game. The draw-distance is impressive, and you’ll track enemy patrols through pine forests and over craggy mountains, on-foot, or in one of the various vehicles you can find. Once you get the hang of them of course. Old hats may be right at home with the Warthog’s now-legendary physics model, while newcomers might wonder what on Earth is going on when a random rock sends them barrel-rolling into the air.

As you progress you will come across the bodies of less-fortunate Spartans, all of whom offer some form of upgrade or another for the Master Chief’s Mjolnir battle armor. While it’s great to have a deployable energy shield and a mobile threat detector, all the other toys pale in comparison to the one you start with.

IWHBYD

The Grappleshot is a hook and chain that can either propel you across gaps, up sheer rock faces or can grab and drag things to you from exploding crates to dropped weapons. Offensively it can help you close the distance to enemies, or hijack Banished vehicles that are giving you trouble.

While it was occasionally swapped out for the shield or thruster dodge during indoor sections in tighter spaces, outside it was the only ability worth using to the point that it probably should have just been an intrinsic part of the arsenal in Infinite. It’s just so much fun and actually elevates an already stellar campaign to new heights.

If there’s a complaint to be made it’s that for a super-soldier, the Master Chief can’t weather many hits. Although that’s probably deliberate here because there’s such a vast spread of weapons, abilities, and upgrades that by the midway point you’ll be starting to feel a little godlike. The story is also a little creaky after the solid first few acts.

Finish the fight

There are a lot of enemy leaders and objectives for the Master Chief and his little group to contend with, and it can become a little difficult to follow exactly who you’re trying to sabotage with each strategic location you obliterate. But this is a minor complaint leveled against something so superbly crafted.

Outside of the campaign, there is of course the multiplayer, which has been available free on Gamepass for several weeks. Once again, 343 Studios have created a fantastic multiplayer element, combining their superlative map design with new mechanics like the Grappleshot, and new weapons like the Mangler and Skewer.

It is, however, built on a Battle Pass system which still has some kinks to work out. Progression is simply not even and smooth enough to feel fully rewarding, and the Challenge system leaves a lot to be desired when it requires you to complete certain challenges that you can’t access for whatever reason. Based on specific modes and objectives, these Challenges can be swapped out with tokens that you’ll need to buy in the cash shop, which isn’t a great design choice.

That being said, Halo: Infinite’s boots-on-the-ground multiplayer element is still as tightly-designed and eminently playable as it has ever been. It does far more than simply give the game legs beyond the campaign, offering a side that will continue to grow and evolve for years to come.

Achievements & Completion

Being a console game primarily, Halo: Infinite comes with a full suite of achievements to unlock, the majority of which can be completed simply by playing the campaign. It behooves you to explore every nook and cranny, and use the Chief’s pulse scanner to check the area regularly for hidden collectibles and secrets.

Halo: Infinite is a massive game compared to previous entries though, and will require well upwards of 20 hours to complete if you want to seek out all the secrets. It also has Halo’s trademark replayability, with compact story missions begging to be replayed on higher difficulties just for the sheer fun of it.

Final Thoughts on Halo: Infinite

Pros
Superb campaign
Great multiplayer element
Looks incredible
Shooting feels sublime
Cons
Battle Pass system isn't great
Story doesn't always feel focused

Final Score: 4.5/5

In a year that has seen some other high-profile franchises struggle to stick the landing, it’s impressive to see a title like Halo: Infinite come along and bowl the competition over so confidently and completely. Not only do 343 nail the world-building and character development, but the shooting is as good as it has ever felt. Mechanically speaking, if ever a shooter could finally come along and feel not just on par with, but in some areas better than, Destiny 2, then it’s almost poetic that this is the game to do it.

Simply put, Halo: Infinite is exactly the game it needed to be: an epic, sweeping installment to one of gaming’s most adored franchises that not only celebrates its own history but sets out its stall for the future, as well. While the story has its ups and downs and there are some kinks to work out in the Battle Pass system, Halo: Infinite remains one of 2021’s finest games – and the very best Halo campaign to date.

Halo: Infinite is available on PC and the Xbox family of consoles for $59.99, or free via Xbox and PC Gamepass.

*Disclaimer: This is a review of the PC version of Halo: Infinite. Console version was also tested. The game was downloaded via Gamepass on day one.

Windows 11 Power Automate: What is it & How to Use it

During the transition between operating systems, Microsoft made some of the paid apps found on Windows 10 native on Windows 11, and one of those examples is Power Automate Desktop.

Formally known as Microsoft Flows, Power Automate is an app that allows you to automate repetitive and time-consuming tasks so they can operate by themselves.

The app works similarly to how Macros function on Microsoft Excel, but Power Automate is much more advanced in what it can do.

Power Automate is native to Windows 11; you don’t have to download anything. All you have to do is open the search bar on the OS, type Power Automate, and it’ll be the first entry that pops up.

Updates occur automatically when you open the app; otherwise, it’s ready from the get-go.

What are the benefits of Power Automate?

Because it automates time-consuming tasks, Power Automate can boost productivity and accuracy, giving you more time to focus on high-value work. The app frees up a lot of time, and you can achieve more with reduced effort. You no longer have to rely on someone else and take up their time.

It streamlines many business processes by synchronizing files, notifications, and data collection in a straightforward manner. According to a study conducted by Forrester Consulting, people who used Power Automate alongside other Microsoft services saw an over 300 percent return on investment and saw their business grow in three years.

Where would I use Power Automate?

Power Automate can move data between systems at specific times, send an email to someone when a certain event occurs, automatically save email attachments, or do other complex tasks.

It’s completely safe to use, but it can be a little tricky. Power Automate is a fairly complex app. Feel free to explore how to use Power Automate in depth.

The app comes with over 300 prebuilt actions inside that allow you to create automated systems across different apps. Not only does Power Automate work with native apps, but tons of third-party apps as well. It works with YouTube, Facebook, Microsoft Teams, Asana, and so on. You can also create your own scripts.

Before you start, you’ll need to check if your Windows 11 computer can run Power Automate. Your machine needs:

  • A valid Windows 11 license
  • 2 GB of RAM at minimum
  • 1 GB of storage
  • .NET Framework version 4.7.2 or later
  • A web browser with active internet.

Microsoft also has a list of supported languages and keyboard layouts for Power Automate on their website. Much of what you will see on that list pertains to Windows 10, but Power Automate is directly carried over from the old OS, so the requirements and support are still the same.

How to use Power Automate Desktop?

1. Building a workflow

  1. In the Flow Editor window, click the Desktop Recorder button at the top of the page.
  2. In the Desktop Record window, click on the Record button.
  3. After hitting Record, minimize the Desktop recorder.
  4. Here, you will have to perform the steps you want this workflow process to carry out. As you perform these steps, Power Automate will record those exact steps.
  5. For example, this guide will show how to set up a playlist with Power Automate on Windows 11. The process is the same for all workflows.
  6. Go to the folder where the files you want to move are stored.
  7. As you navigate through the file explorer, the recorder will highlight the select item with a red rectangle.
  8. Double-click and select a file.
  9. Continue this for as long as the workflow needs to be. In this example, the app records the construction of the playlist.
  10. After you finish recording the actions, open the minimized Desktop Record.
  11. Click Finish to stop recording.
  12. You will see the full list of steps you took to perform the task under the Main section.
  13. Review the steps and once you finish, click on the Save icon to save the recording. It may take a few seconds to save.
  14. Try out the workflow by clicking on the Run icon to play the flow you recorded.
  15. If at some point the workflow doesn’t perform the way you want it or you made a mistake, click Pause to stop the playback and click Desktop recorder to add new steps.

Tip: Every action performed while recording will be implemented exactly as it was done. Perform each step carefully when recording.

What are some of its most useful features?

As stated earlier, Power Automate has over 300 prebuilt connectors. You can add compressing ZIP files to a workflow or unzipping them if they come in through an email.

A workflow can be configured to write XML files, insert XML elements, print documents, and more. Double-click connectors to place them at the bottom or drag and drop.

Power Automate also has an AI Builder which uses artificial intelligence to boost the app’s efficacy. The AI is used to manage the workflow once it’s created and can be connected to data sources to make connections possible. Its reach can even be extended using built-in connectors to Microsoft Azure APIs.

And if the workflow is somehow deleted, lost, or you forgot to save it, Power Automate comes with cloud-based data loss prevention functioning as a backup. It does however require a constant internet connection to connect to the cloud. Power Automate does not work without an internet connection.

What is the difference between Power Automate and Power Automate Desktop?

Microsoft has released two apps with similar-sounding names: Power Automate and Power Automate Desktop. However, the company doesn’t do a very good job of differentiating the two. The two versions do similar things but have substantial differences.

Power Automate Desktop is a desktop-based software that can automate any desktop or web app. It has more than 370 actions, which you can use to record actions on the internet or PC.

Power Automate is a cloud-based software with AI features and more than 450 connectors, so it’s capable of more actions. Power Automate can only be used in a web browser, but it’s useful for those who may not have a computer that meets hardware requirements or would rather not use their Windows 11 computer. The Desktop version does less than the web version.

Both of these versions are great; there isn’t one that is objectively better than the other. Power Automate Desktop is already a fantastic app that does a lot, but it may occasionally suffer from a network error. If you want even more connections, then the web browser version is better in that regard.

There do exist third-party automation apps like UiPath RPA and Automation Anywhere. Apps like these offer unique features like prebuilt templates, collaboration with other people, document generation, process analysis, and more. But to get those features, you’ll have to pay. Power Automate is free and has most of the features found on third-party apps.

Final thoughts on Power Automate for Windows 11

Pros
Hundreds of prebuilt connections on both versions
Streamlines and automates repetitive tasks
Works with tons of third-party apps
Can boost productivity and accuracy
Zero coding knowledge needed
AI Builder
Cons
Requires constant internet access
Can be pretty complicated to use

Halo Infinite gets Slayer multiplayer patch on December 14

Halo Infinite fans can already enjoy the campaign and multiplayer mode for Halo Infinite, but there’s word of even more coming to the title.

A major update, coming on December 14, will add Slayer, Fiesta, Free-For-All, and Tactical Slayer (SWAT) playlists to the free-to-play portion of the game.

That’s right, a lot more ways to team up or do your own thing are coming to the latest Halo game in just a few days.

New modes coming to Halo Infinite this month

This has been public information for a couple of days now, but most likely got a bit overlooked because of all the commotion surrounding The Game Awards.

But, yes, starting with the 14th of December, all of the above-mentioned modes will become available to all Halo Infinite players.

Slayer is going to be a bit basic right at the start, however, a lot more features will be added over time. 343 Industries justified this by stating that Slayer variants simply weren’t ready in time for the holidays.

But we shouldn’t worry, as surely fresh content is right around the corner, and the beginning of 2022 will most likely bring plenty more to the table.

The upcoming update will also include adjustments to challenges, including removing some particularly frustrating mode-specific ones, reducing some requirements for others, and making the weekly ultimate challenge less intensive.

This announcement also brought forth new efforts being made in the field of experience gain, which will become more performance-based.

Another important more made via the same post states that the team was aware of server issues that occur when playing Big Team Battle (BTB).

Developers are investigating this problem, as well as others that have been reported during Ranked play, and will release patches as soon as they come up with fixes.

Until then, all we can do is keep enjoying our favorite new title and hope that the new modes that are coming will be just as exciting as we expected them to be.

Also, make sure you know what to do if Halo Infinite isn’t working on Windows 11 by reading our dedicated fix article.

Out of the modes scheduled to be rolled out, which one are you the most excited about? Let us know in the comments section below.

Two massive DLCs are supposedly coming to Assassin’s Creed Valhalla soon

This one is for all the Assassin’s Creed series fans out there. We know that everybody’s currently wondering about the next downloadable content for Valhalla, so here’s an interesting update.

Even though this is not yet official information, we’re pretty sure that you will get excited when hearing about this.

So, without any further ado, let’s dive right into the subject and find out what exactly Ubisoft is planning for us in the near future.

Dawn of Ragnarok photos got leaked by Ubisoft China

It seems that it’s safe to say that at least one of these two expansions is going to become reality soon. Some new promotional material for Assassin’s Creed Valhalla: Dawn of Ragnarok got leaked.

Apparently, this leak came from Ubisoft China and absolutely flooded the Internet. The new content is expected to launch on March 10, 2022, and focuses on the events leading up to the Norse apocalypse known as Ragnarok.

Allegedly, the action takes place in the Nine Realms of Norse Mythology, which are threatened by the invasion of the Kingdom of Frost and Flames.

The text depicts an image of the Kingdom of Dwarves in Wat Alheim, which faces destruction, and Odin’s son Baldr, who has been kidnapped by the immortal fire giant Surtr.

You, as Aivor, have to personally experience the fate of Odin, the war of the North, and the destiny of the God of Wisdom.

Get ready to explore a world of mythology, save Odin’s children, and unleash a brand-new thunderbolt ability. You must save your flesh and blood before the gods are swallowed by Ragnarok.

Ubisoft might be more inclined to make an announcement soon, given the fact that this is not a secret anymore.

Seems like we will finally delve further into the supernatural elements of this beloved franchise, but exactly how this ties to the larger Assassin’s Creed universe remains to be seen.

Two brand new expansions are coming to Valhalla

Platforms such as Twitter and Reddit are absolutely buzzing with rumours about the new content that is supposedly coming to Assasin’s Creed Valhalla.

Apparently, the first one, which is much larger than the second, is going to be called Dawn of Ragnarok, and it will be around 40 hours long.

We don’t exactly know how to interpret the “God of War-style” part, but we’re guessing that it could be set in the mythological realm of Svartalfheim.

Die-hard fans of the game have found what they think is a lot of clues that kind of gives away Ubisoft’s pans.

As we mentioned, these are still rumours, as no official information has been made public regarding this matter. Nonetheless, it’s a subject worth keeping an eye on, especially if you are a fan.

Moving on to the second rumoured DLC, fans haven’t found a potential name for it just yet, but the belief is that we are going to the island of Skye (Scotland) and meeting Odyssey´s Kassandra.

This sounds a bit more plausible, as an Assassin’s Creed Odyssey crossover bundle of information got leaked a while back.

Anyway, this comes as no surprise for the great majority of AC players, as they were already expecting some extra goodies from game creators.

But even though this information is worth getting excited about, some don’t even believe this will happen, and most think that it will just be more boring content added.

The two DLCs we mentioned in this article are supposedly going to be announced at The Game Awards this month, so we’re going to keep an eye out for any development

Fix: The Computer Restarted Unexpectedly Loop on Windows 11

If you’ve finally chosen to get on the Windows 11 bandwagon, you may find yourself running into some difficulties such as The computer restarted unexpectedly or encountered an unexpected error issue.

In rare circumstances, this problem occurs when you attempt to restore your Windows PC to its default configuration by using a recovery CD, which is not recommended.

You have arrived at the right place, where you will find all of the solutions to this installation issue. Following our response to one of the most often asked questions about Windows 11 requirements, you can proceed to the steps mentioned below to complete your upgrade in a secure manner.

What can I do if the Windows 11 PC restarted unexpectedly?

1. Use the Registry Editor

  1. Press the Windows key + R to open the Run box, type in regedit and press Enter.
regedit-windows-11 the computer restarted unexpectedly or encountered an unexpected error windows 11
  2. Once you are inside the Registry Editor window, type or paste in the following command in the search bar:
    Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\Setup\Status\ChildCompletion
childcompletion the computer restarted unexpectedly or encountered an unexpected error windows 11
  3. Double click the setup.exe file from the right panel and change the Value data from 1 to 3, then click OK to save the changes.
setupexe the computer restarted unexpectedly or encountered an unexpected error windows 11

Close the Registry Editor window and restart your computer. The error should now be gone.

2.  Look at your hard drive cables

Users might get stuck in The computer restarted unexpectedly or encountered an unexpected error loop due to hard drive cable problems.

Some people reported that the issue was resolved by just replacing the wires that connect the hard drive to the motherboard, so you might want to give that a shot.

If you open up your computer case, you will invalidate your warranty, thus it may be preferable to take your computer to an authorized repair center if your PC is still covered by it.

3. Disconnect all your USB devices

Most of us have a variety of USB devices connected to our computers, however, these devices can occasionally conflict with Windows and result in The computer restarted unexpectedly or encountered an unexpected error.

Many people reported that removing the USB devices from the computer helped to resolve the problem. Simply unplug any devices that you may have connected to your PC (including flash drives, printers, your keyboard, and mouse) and reconnect them before attempting to use them.

If your OS encounters problems when you plug the devices back, you might want to check our article on how to fix Windows 11 not recognizing USB devices.

4. Format your hard drive

  1. Click on the search icon and type in cmd to open the Command prompt window and enter the following commands one by one pressing Enter after each:
Diskpart list volume select volume 1 format fs=ntfs quick label=test
diskpart-cmd the computer restarted unexpectedly or encountered an unexpected error windows 11
  2. Select the volume in which the Windows OS is installed.
  3. Type or paste in the following command and hit Enter:
    exit
exit-cmd the computer restarted unexpectedly or encountered an unexpected error windows 11

Restart your computer and reinstall Windows 11. For a thorough guide on how to perform a Windows 11 installation, check out the linked article.

5. Update your BIOS

The first step will be to locate the motherboard manufacturer’s website, such as Dell’s official page, and then locate the Downloads or Support page for the motherboard model that you are interested in purchasing.

Users of HP computers who have reported receiving The computer restarted unexpectedly or encountered an unexpected error should instead refer to the official HP website for further information on how to resolve it.

In a similar spirit, we urge that Lenovo consumers go to the company’s official website to download drivers and software updates.

Download the version of the software to which you desire to update and save it to your computer’s hard drive before continuing. As a rule of thumb, you should always choose the most up-to-date version currently available on the market, unless you have a compelling need for an older version.

Your download will very certainly be in the form of an archive, which is often a ZIP file. Once it has been downloaded, you will need to unzip it by right-clicking on the file and selecting the Extract all files option from the drop-down menu.

The flashing tool that you use will be decided by the motherboard. There are a plethora of types of such instruments accessible. The readme file that comes with the firmware upgrade will be able to guide you through the process of choosing which option is the best fit for you.

As soon as the package has been unzipped, copy the documents to a USB flash drive and restart your computer. Afterward, navigate to the BIOS panel and choose the option for a BIOS upgrade.

For further information, see our guide on how to upgrade your BIOS, which includes step-by-step instructions and procedures.

Can I install Windows 11 without TPM?

The Windows 11 TPM 2.0 requirement is not as strict as it appears at first glance. Of course, Microsoft strongly advises that you only upgrade to the OS if you already have a device that is equipped with that particular piece of security hardware, but you are not required to do so in order to make the switch.
tpm-2.0 the computer restarted unexpectedly or encountered an unexpected error windows 11

In reality, there are various workarounds that Microsoft has made available to the public to allow PCs that are not equipped with TPM 2.0 to complete the changeover, but it is unclear how long it will be before the corporation changes its mind about leaving those loopholes open indefinitely.

There are a number of options for bypassing the TPM 2.0, including modifying your registry. Check out our guide on how to install Windows 11 without the Trusted Platform Module for further details.

Fix: Computer Keeps Restarting Before Windows Loads

The boot time in computers has significantly reduced in the past few years, owing to recent technological advancements. Yet users continue to face boot errors. One such is when the computer keeps restarting before Windows loads.

While Windows not booting altogether usually indicates a hardware problem or corrupt OS, continuous restarts could have to do both with the software and hardware issues, making troubleshooting a tad more tricky. So let’s find out why the computer keeps restarting on boot.

Why does my computer keep restarting before Windows?

Here are a few reasons the computer or laptop keeps restarting before Windows loads:

  • Incompatible or malfunctioning hardware: Issues with the RAM, HDD, motherboard, graphics card, CPU fan, and other similar vital components can cause the PC to restart.
  • Corrupt Windows installation: Oftentimes, the OS installation goes corrupt due to recent software changes, and reinstalling Windows is the best way to go.
  • Problems with the BIOS: BIOS is the first thing that comes into play when the computer is turned on, and problems with it can be the reason your computer keeps restarting with no display.

What can I do if computer keeps restarting before Windows loads?

Before we start with the major changes, here are a few quick things to try:

  • Disconnect all non-critical peripherals from the PC, especially any older USB sticks, gaming controllers, and joysticks.
  • Make sure the power supply to the computer is optimal. If you are using a surge protector or a hub, plug the PC directly into the wall port, and verify whether the computer still keeps restarting before Windows loads.
  • Check for overheating, though it’s unlikely to be the case since it takes the computer at least a few minutes to generate that heat level. But you could still ensure that the flow of air is not restricted.
  • Ensure all the connections are in order, even the internal ones.
  • If it’s a laptop, unplug the battery and power it using the cable only. This helps when the battery is malfunctioning or is simply dead.

If none work, head to the solutions listed next.

1. Reset the BIOS

  1. Turn on the computer, and as soon as the display lights up, hit F2, F10, F12, Esc, or Del, depending on the manufacturer, to enter the BIOS.
  2. Now, click on the Default option. In some cases, it would be available in the settings, so you will have to look for it.default to fix computer keeps restarting before windows loads
  3. Click OK to confirm the change.ok

In most cases, the BIOS is responsible when the computer keeps restarting before Windows loads, and a simple reset should work.

If you cannot load the BIOS, it means that either the BIOS is corrupt or there’s a major hardware issue to blame. And in both cases, we recommend you take your PC to a repair shop. However, if the BIOS is accessible, but the reset didn’t yield the desired results, head to the next solution.

2. Run tests on the RAM

Tip icon Tip
Before you start with the test, try turning on the computer with only one module connected and verify whether the OS boots. Similarly, do this for all the RAM modules.

When you can’t turn on the computer, the best way to test the RAM modules is to connect them to another PC individually and use Memtest86+, an open-source memory testing tool that has helped a lot of users when the computer keeps restarting before Windows loads.

MemTest86+

The tool will run a range of tests and even fix trivial issues. But in most cases, it’s best to replace the faulty RAM module to get rid of the problem once and forever.

3. Check for corrupt system files

  1. Turn on the computer, and soon as the display lights up, press the power button to turn it off. Repeat the process twice and on the third-party attempt, Automatic Repair will kick in.
  2. Click Advanced options to proceed.
  3. Click on Troubleshoot.troubleshoot
  4. Again, click on Advanced options.advanced options
  5. Now, choose Command Prompt.command prompt to fix computer keeps restarting before windows loads
  6. Run the following three commands individually:DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /CheckHealth DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
  7. Once done, paste the following command and hit Enter:sfc /scannowsfc scan to fix computer keeps restarting before windows loads
  8. Once done, restart the computer and check whether it now boots properly.

Another effective solution would be to use a professional third-party repair tool that focuses on cleaning the clutter in your system and repairing corrupted system files.

With built-in performance tools, this kind of software can fix your HDD problems within a few moments, restoring your OS to its peak performance.

You should know that it is recommended to use automated assistance to repair more complex Windows problems and thus avoid unsafe actions.

4. Perform a system restore

  1. Access the Recovery Mode on the PC as we did earlier, and choose System Restore.system restore to fix computer keeps restarting before windows loads
  2. Now, choose your account from the list.account
  3. Enter the password for the selected account and click Continue.password
  4. Click Next to proceed.next
  5. Choose a restore point from the list and click Next.restore point to fix computer keeps restarting before windows loads
  6. Verify the restore details and click Finish.finish
  7. Click Yes in the confirmation prompt.confirm
  8. Wait for the restore to complete.restore to fix computer keeps restarting before windows loads

In case the computer keeps restarting before Windows loads after the checks and changes listed previously, a system restore may help. It only helps with the software side of things but is great at eliminating issues arising from recent driver updates.

5. Reinstall Windows

If a system restore didn’t do the trick, there’s always the option to reinstall Windows. This will do it when it’s a corrupt Windows installation to blame for the problem.

All you have to do is create a bootable USB drive, plug it into the PC, boot it via it, and then follow the on-screen instructions to reinstall the OS.

Tip icon Tip
If nothing so far has worked, it’s certainly a hardware problem, and we recommend you contact the manufacturer or a professional to get the PC inspected.

Besides, after you have fixed the problem, check the best PC repair tool that will automatically identify and eliminate problems, thereby preventing such issues from reappearing.

Fix: No sound after Bluetooth connection in Windows 10/11

Bluetooth enables you to connect devices without any cables. However, Bluetooth doesn’t always work perfectly as some Windows users have stated on forums that there is no sound coming from their wireless speakers even though the devices are seemingly connected.

This is how you can fix Bluetooth speakers that aren’t pumping out any audio in Windows 10.

How do I fix a Bluetooth device without sound?

  1. Update your Bluetooth device driver
  2. Does your Windows PC Support Bluetooth?
  3. Check that the Bluetooth Support Service is enabled
  4. Select the Bluetooth device as the Default Playback device
  5. Check the Bluetooth Device’s audio level
  6. Re-pair your Bluetooth speakers
  7. Open the Playing Audio Troubleshooter
  8. Open the Bluetooth Troubleshooter
  9. Check the Bluetooth Speaker set is enabled

1. Update your Bluetooth device driver

  1. Note down the speaker set’s product title and serial number. You’ll probably find those details in the manual for the speakers.
  2. You’ll also need Windows platform details. To check if you have 32 or 64-bit Windows, enter ‘system’ in the Cortana’s search box and select System.
  3. Open the speaker manufacturer’s website, and open the driver download section on the website.
  4. Enter or select your wireless speaker details in the search box or from the drop-down menus on the site.
  5. Download the most update driver for your speakers that’s compatible with your 32 or 64-bit Windows platform.
  6. After downloading the driver, you can probably select to run an installer for the driver.

For further details on updating drivers, check out this driver update guide.

Bluetooth device issues can be due to antiquated or corrupted drivers. If the driver is outdated, the speakers might not work with updated platforms or the latest Bluetooth 5 version. So updating a driver might restore the speaker sound.

We strongly recommend automatically updating your drivers with Outbyte Driver Updater. This tool is backed up by a library of all the most used drivers in the world, allowing it to identify and quickly fix all outdated, broken, or missing drivers altogether.

All you need to do is install it, let it scan your PC, and then choose which drivers should be fixed.

The rest of the process is all automated by Outbyte Driver Updater, and the speed with which it does its job is entirely dependent on your Internet connection.

Once your drivers have been dealt with, simply restart your PC, and you’re all set.

Windows 10 also includes a Bluetooth troubleshooter that might be worth noting. You can utilize that troubleshooter to fix your wireless speakers.

First, it will tell you if your laptop or desktop supports Bluetooth. This is how you can open that troubleshooter.

9. Check the Bluetooth Speaker Set is Enabled

  • The Bluetooth speakers might not be enabled.
  • To check the speaker set is enabled, press the Win key + X hotkey and select Device Manager to open the window directly below.
device manager
  • Double-click the Bluetooth Radios category to expand a list of wireless devices.
  • A down arrow sign highlights that a device is not enabled. If your wireless device has a down arrow sign, right-click it and select Enable on the context menu.

There’s a good chance that some of those resolutions will fix your Bluetooth speakers so that they pump out audio once more.

If not, then there might be a hardware issue with the speakers; so check that they work with an alternative device such as a tablet or TV.

You can get the speakers fixed, or perhaps a replacement set, so long as they are still within the manufacturer’s warranty period.

FIX: 5.1 channel surround sound not working on Windows 10/11

If you like to enjoy multimedia content then you probably have a 5.1 surround speaker system.

These speakers are perfect for all fans of multimedia and it’s a big problem when 5.1 channel sound isn’t working on Windows 10, so let’s see if we can fix this.

Users report that they can only get 2.1 audio, although 5.1 audio worked fine with previous versions of their Windows.

In addition, users are getting Failed to play test tone errors when trying to test their audio device. So what can we do to fix this issue?

How do I fix the 5.1 channel surround sound on Windows 10?

1. Change the sound bit rate and frequency

  1. Right-click on the speaker icon on the right of your Windows taskbar.
  2. Select Sound, then go to Playback.
  3. Right-click on your speaker and select Properties.
  4. Click the Advanced tab.
  5. Expand the format list and change the bitrate to 24bits and frequency to 96000Hz.
  6. Click Ok. Now your 5.1 audio should work properly.

This applies if you’re using Realtek Sound. To fix this, you need to open Realtek Sound manager and set the sound bitrate to 24bits and frequency to 96000Hz for 5.1 audio to work properly.

If this option doesn’t work, you might want to try changing the bitrate and frequency until you find the one that works for your computer.

2. Update your audio driver

  1. Press the Win Key + S and search for Device Manager.
  2. In the Device Manager, go to your Audio inputs and outputs.
  3. Right-click on your speaker and select Update driver.

  4. Now, expand Sound, video and game controllers.
  5. Repeat the process for the devices you find there.

If you’re using Realtek audio, you might want to download the latest drivers or any version of drivers higher than 6.0.1.7487.

Some users report that this was helpful to them. If you’re not using Realtek audio, it won’t hurt that you try updating your audio driver as well.

Update drivers automatically

The process of manually updating your drivers is tedious and requires a bit of background knowledge. Installing the wrong driver or an incompatible one will make the situation worse.

Therefore, we recommend checking out a specialized tool that updates drivers automatically, so you won’t have to go through the trouble of doing it yourself.

One noteworthy tool that helps you keep your drivers in check is Outbyte Driver Updater. It is very straightforward and lightweight.

You just have to let it scan your drivers. Upon your approval, it will fix any damaged or missing drivers and install new versions for the outdated ones.

Another thing that may be of real help is that you can set it up to regularly scan and update your drivers.

It doesn’t use too many resources, so you can let it run in the background while you take care of other tasks.

⇒ Get Outbyte Driver Updater

3. Update your Windows 10

  1. Press the Win Key + S and type Settings.
  2. Go to the Update & Security.
  3. Select Windows Update, then Check for updates.
  4. Let Windows search and install the latest updates.

Microsoft constantly works at improving their Windows OS and fixing all bugs they find. If your surround sound isn’t working, it might be a problem from their end, unrelated to you.

The Asus Hotkey Service is a simple software that allows you to use Fn keys to adjust brightness, sound volume, etc. on your laptop. It’s a useful tool, but it’s not necessary for your laptop.

To fix this problem, you can simply download the latest ACPI Driver version. Use Windows 10’s Device Manager, right-click the ACPI Driver and select the update option.

Update drivers automatically with dedicated software

Unable to edit Word 2016 documents [SIMPLE GUIDE]

Some users complained on Microsoft forums that they’re unable to edit an existing Word document. Fortunately, this issue is not caused by Microsoft’s developing team, and it isn’t some kind of bug in Word 2016, so we have a workaround that could help you.

Office 2016 was released a couple of years ago, and a lot of people are still using it. But the Office version brought some problems with itself, as a lot of users were complaining about various issues upon the release of the software pack.

Luckily, most of the problems have been solved, and using Office 2016 apps isn’t frustrating anymore.

What to do if I cannot edit Word 2016 documents?

Table of contents:

  1. Disable Document Protection
  2. Repair the Word document
  3. Make sure Office 2016 is activated
  4. Delete Registry keys
  5. Disable Add-ins
  6. Reinstall Office
  7. Disable Hardware Acceleration
  8. Install Windows updates
  9. Uninstall Office updates

1. Disable Document Protection

To do that, follow these steps:

  1. Open Word 2016 document you have problems with
  2. Go to Developer tab (if you don’t have Developer tab, go to File>Options>Customize Ribbon> and select Developer)
  3. In the Protection group, go to Document Protection
  4. Navigate to the bottom of the panel, and click Stop Protection
  5. Enter the password for the document, and click OK

If you cannot edit your Word document, it’s probably protected with a password. In case you don’t want to enter the password every time you access the document, you’ll need to disable document protection, and delete the password.

After performing this, you should be able to edit your Word 2016 document normally, without any interruptions.

2. Repair the Word document

One of the reasons you are unable to edit Word 2016 documents might be because the actual file is damaged.

Fortunately, there are still ways to deal with this. Use Stellar Repair for Word – a third-party utility.

It will safely repair Word files. It will preserve any text, headers or footers, and images. You can feed it either a .doc file or a .docx.

Fully compatible with Microsoft Word 2016, we highly recommend this tool if you have any issues with your documents.

Once the file is recovered, you can open it again in Word and be able to edit and save the new changes.

⇒ Get Stellar Repair for Word

3. Make sure Office 2016 is activated

There’s one more thing that could prevent you from editing your Word 2016 document, and that is the expired Office 2016 trial.

Microsoft offered Office 2016 in a month-long trial, which attracted a lot of users who don’t have an Office 365, and they downloaded the package, without thinking that it might expire.

And indeed, for some reason, you’ll be still able to use Office 2016 even after that one month of the free trial, but it will eventually expire after some time, leaving your Office 2016 apps useless.

So, if you downloaded the free trial, make sure you bought Office 365 subscription, or you won’t be able to use Office 2016.

If you don’t want to pay for using Word, you can always download the ‘lite’ version of the software from Microsoft Store, called Word Mobile.

4. Delete Registry keys

If you’re still unable to edit Word 2016 documents, we’re going to try one registry hack. Here’s what you need to do:

  1. Go to Search, type regedit, and open Registry Editor.
  2. Navigate to the following path:
    • HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Word
  3. Now, just click on the Data key, and delete it
  4. Restart your computer.

This action will reset Word 2016, along with the bug that prevents you from editing documents.

5. Disable Add-ins

As much as add-ins are useful in Office apps, a corrupt add-in can cause big problems. So, we’re going to disable that troublesome add-in to see if Word functions well without it.

But since we can’t surely know which add-in causes problems, we’ll have to disable them all at once. Here’s how to do that:

  1. Open Word 2016.
  2. Go to File > Options.
  3. Click Add-Ins, and then disable all add-ins.
  4. Restart the program, and run it without any add-ins enabled.

Now, start installing add-ins one by one to determine which one causes problems. However, if you’re still unable to edit documents after uninstalling add-ins, install them once again, and move to another solution.

6. Reinstall Office

Reinstalling programs has been one of the most popular troubleshooting methods for years. And we’re going to seek its help here, as well.

However, since Word is part of the Office Suite, you’ll have to reinstall the whole bundle. Reinstalling everything can be painful, but it might be worth it in the end.

You can uninstall Office just like you would uninstall any other program. The fastest and easiest way is by going to Control Panel > Programs and Features. Now just uninstall the whole suite, install it once again, and see if the problem is resolved.

If you want to completely remove Office from your Windows 10 PC, follow the simple steps in this article.

7. Disable Hardware Acceleration

  1. Open any Office app.
  2. Go to File > Options > Advanced.
  3. Locate Hardware Acceleration and disable it.
  4. After doing that, try to start Word 2016 again.

Word 2016 uses Hardware Acceleration to optimize its performance. However, this very setting can also cripple Word in some cases. So, if none of the solutions from above got the job done, we’re going to disable Hardware Acceleration in Word 2016.

If you can’t disable Hardware Acceleration this way, we’re going to turn to the Registry Editor once again:

  1. Open Registry Editor.
  2. In the left pane navigate to this key:
    • HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Common
  3. Right-click the Common key and choose New > Key from the menu.
  4. Enter Graphics as the name of the new key.
  5. Now right click Graphics key and select New > DWORD (32-bit) Value. Name the new value DisableHardwareAcceleration.
  6. Double click DisableHardwareAcceleration value and set its Value data to 1. Click OK to save changes.
  7. Close Registry Editor and check if the problem is resolved.

Note: We advise you to play with Registry only if you know what you’re doing. If you mess up something in Registry, you can have big problems. So, if you’re not sure about this, ask someone else for help.

8. Install Windows updates

Microsoft often releases Office updates through Windows Update as regular updates for Windows. So, maybe you’re dealing with a known problem acknowledged by Microsoft. If that’s the case Microsoft will release a fix or patch through Windows Update.

To check for updates, simply go to Settings > Updates & Security, and check for updates.

9. Uninstall Office updates

On the contrary to the previous workaround, a new update can actually be the problem that caused it in the first place. In that case, the best thing you can do is to uninstall the troublesome update. And here’s how to do that:

  1. Go to the Settings app.
  2. Head over to Updates & Security > Windows Update.
  3. Go to Update history > Uninstall updates.
  4. Now, find the latest Office update installed on your computer (you can sort updates by date), right-click it, and click Uninstall.
  5. Restart your computer.

Did you know that Windows 10 uninstalls problematic updates to avoid certain startup failures? Check out this article to find out more.

That’s about it. We hope at least one of these solutions helped you in case you were unable to edit Word 2016 documents. If you have any comments, questions or suggestions, just let us know in the comments below.

Sims 4 Not Responding: How to Fix it Easily

Windows 10 offers all sorts of improvements to its users, but despite the improvements, it isn’t a perfect operating system, and there are some issues from time to time.

One of these issues is related to a video game called Sims 4, and users report the Sims 4 not responding issue. Read on to find out how to fix it.

There’s nothing more frustrating than buying a video game and not being able to play it. Users reported that Sims 4 stops working all of the sudden, and this can be quite frustrating, but there are a few solutions to this issue.

How do I fix Sims 4 not responding?

1. Update your graphics card drivers

If you can’t play Sims 4 on your PC, the issue might be related to your graphics card drivers. Outdated drivers can cause your game to crash and experience various issues.

To fix this issue, be sure that you update your graphics card drivers. And the easiest way of doing that is by using a specialized software solution like Outbyte Driver Updater.

It’s a lot easier to use and a lot safer because if you’re trying to find the drivers on the manufacturer’s site there is always the possibility of installing the wrong driver.

Begin by downloading and installing the Outbyte Driver Updater tool. It will be over in just a few seconds and then it starts automatically looking for driver problems on your system.

When the process is over (also just a few seconds), you get a report with all the drivers and recommended ones for installation.

2. Exclude the game folder from your Antivirus

This is sometimes an issue with antivirus software, so the best solution is to add your Sims 4 installation directory to the exclusion list.

This is different for each antivirus software, so you’ll have to find out how to do it for your antivirus.

In addition, you can turn off your antivirus software temporarily. This might not be the best solution for some users, especially if you’re heavily concerned about your safety.

In some cases, you might have to switch to a different antivirus solution in order to fix the problem.

A Windows 10 compatible antivirus won’t interfere with your installed software and it only uses minimal resources from your PC.

So an excellent tool not only does not interfere with your gaming but actually detects when you start playing and stops any pop-ups, enhances the visual settings, and blocks unimportant apps.

3. Delete the .txt files from your Sims 4 folder

  1. Go to the following folder: C:UsersYOUDocumentsElectronic ArtsThe Sims 4

However, if the problem still exists, the Sims 4 saves folder is not an issue, so you can replace the newly created Sims 4 folder with the one from your desktop, to get your game progress back.

No Sound on Netflix? 6 Best Solutions to Fix it Now

If you’re streaming a television show, your favorite series, or movie, and you’re getting video but no sound with Netflix, the issue is usually with the content or your speakers’ connection.

It is important to note that sometimes Netflix streaming performance is also influenced by the number of browser tabs, apps, and programs that take up your computer’s memory and processing resources.

Some quick troubleshooting options you can check include whether your speakers are properly hooked up to your receiver and whether HDMI/optical connectors are properly plugged in.

However, if your volume is okay or turned up on your Netflix player and computer/device, and you’ve tried playing a different show or movie but still get no sound with Netflix, that’s a problem.

Here we have listed more quick fixes and solutions in this article you can try.

Quick Tip:

Streaming Netflix in a browser with sound optimization is the quickest workaround and an opportunity to try Opera GX.

You can use Opera GX Control, optimized for multiple tab management, to reduce the load from other tabs while focusing on Netflix streaming sessions. The sound booster in Opera GX can be toggled based on preferences and the image quality is streamlined for gaming, thus ultra HD if you want.

Opera GX

Faster access and greater sound optimization directly in your browser.

How do I get sound back on Netflix?

  1. Set sound to Studio Quality
  2. Change your audio settings
  3. Reinstall audio drivers
  4. Switch to Stereo
  5. Update Microsoft Silverlight
  6. Switch audio output to HDMI

1. Set the sound to Studio Quality

  1. On the lower right end of your taskbar, find the speaker icon and right-click on it.
  2. Click Playback Devices.
  3. Click the speaker. No sound with Netflix
  4. Click Properties. No sound with Netflix
  5. Click the Advanced tab. No sound with Netflix
  6. From the drop-down menu, select 24-bit, 192000 hz (Studio Quality). No sound with Netflix

2. Change your audio settings

  1. Open Netflix.
  2. Select the TV show or movie you want to watch.
  3. While you’re the show or movie is playing, move your mouse over the computer/device screen.
  4. Click the Dialog icon.
  5. If surround sound (5.1) is selected, change to a non-5.1 option.
  6. Try playing Netflix again and see if the sound is restored.

If changing audio settings to a non-5.1 option resolves the problem, do the following to resume playing in 5.1:

Check your device’s audio settings

If audio output settings are set to stereo or Linear PCM, select a 5.1 compatible option instead, but check with your computer or device manufacturer for help in adjusting these settings.

If 5.1 audio is enabled

If 5.1 audio is enabled when watching a show or movie, select the option within the Audio & Subtitles menu during playback.

Not every episode or season of a 5.1 supported TV show or series may have 5.1 available. Test for 5.1 availability of later seasons of a TV show by using the season drop-down option on the title description page.

If you’re using a device that supports 5.1 audio

5.1 Digital Dolby surround sound is not currently supported while streaming Netflix on a computer using Microsoft Silverlight or HTML5. It is, however, supported in the Netflix app for Windows 10.

To check if your device supports 5.1 audio, go to any Netflix original to check for a 5.1 audio option. If it isn’t there, then your device may not support this feature, or it may need to be turned on.

Microsoft was reportedly close to bringing Xbox Cloud Gaming to Apple’s iOS App Store

If Microsoft’s Xbox Cloud Gaming service is currently available on iPhones and iPads via the web, a new report from The Verge reveals that Microsoft was in advanced talks with Apple to bring Xbox cloud-enabled games, including high-profile exclusives to the iOS App Store. The revelations come from a series of private emails between the two companies that surfaced following the Epic vs. Apple trial.

Last year, Apple updated its App Store terms of services to allow game streaming apps, though with two important caveats: Each cloud-enabled game must be submitted to the App Store as an individual app to allow Apple to review it before publication, and all these games must also use Apple’s in-app purchases system to that the company can take its standard 30% cut.

At the time, a Microsoft spokesperson that this would be “a bad experience for customers,” as the company wanted to have its Xbox Game Pass app provide a single entry point to all cloud-enabled games, just like things work on Windows PCs and Android. iOS users can currently access the full Xbox Cloud Gaming catalog via the web, but the private emails between Apple and Microsoft reveal that the Redmond giant was working on a solution on bringing Xbox cloud-enabled games to the iOS App Store in a way that would satisfy both companies.

If Microsoft was initially not so hot about having one app on the App Store for every cloud-enabled game, the company discussed with Apple a more user-friendly way to do this. Lori Wright, Xbox head of business development explained in an email that Microsoft could make cloud-enabled games on iOS use less storage by having all the streaming tech in a single app, instead of including it in every game.

Xbox Cloud Gaming

“If we put the streaming tech in each game individually, the average size of each game would be roughly 150MB and each game will need to be updated every time there’s a streaming tech update. If we have a single streaming tech app, it will be around 150 MB, but the other apps will only be roughly 30 MB and will not need to be updated when the streaming tech is updated. This will be a better experience for users, explained Wright in an email with members of several key members of Apple’s App Store team.

To make the argument more convincing to Apple, Wright also proposed to bring exclusive AAA Xbox games to the iOS App Store. “This would be an incredibly exciting opportunity for iOS users to get access to these exclusive AAA titles in addition to the Game Pass games,” the exec wrote. However, this plan never saw the light of day as Microsoft ultimately rejected Apple’s new App Store policies back in September 2020, and the company announced a web version of Xbox Cloud Gaming compatible with iOS devices the following month.

In a statement to The Verge, Apple spokesperson Adam Dema explained that the blocking point was Microsoft’s refusal to comply with Apple’s requirements regarding in-app purchases. “Unfortunately, Microsoft proposed a version of xCloud that was not compliant with our App Store Review Guidelines, specifically the requirement to use in-app purchase to unlock additional features or functionality within an app,” the statement says.

In a separate statement to The Verge, Xbox Cloud Gaming CVP Kareem Choudhry had quite a different story and said and denied that IAPs were the blocking point. “The reasons for rejection were unrelated to in-app purchase capabilities; we currently provide Xbox Cloud Gaming through a singular Xbox Game Pass app in the Google Play Store without IAP enabled, for example, and we would do the same through the App Store if allowed,” the exec explained. “In addition to Xbox Game Pass, we were also open to bringing select individual games to iOS as we do today with titles like Minecraft,” he added.

Microsoft announces new partnerships and capabilities for Azure Space

Microsoft has announced new capabilities and partnerships for Azure Space, the company’s cloud computing platform that connects satellites and services across industries. The company has also unveiled a new set of tools that should help to enhance satellite images.

First up, the Redmond giant has launched a new service called “Azure Orbital” in public preview, allowing customers to communicate and control satellites from ground stations. With this cloud-based ground station service, organizations can now securely and efficiently store, process, and analyze data in the cloud with reduced costs.

SpaceEye using AI to predict what image looks like underneath clouds.

Microsoft also unveiled SpaceEye, an AI-powered tool that fetches cloud-free optical and multispectral satellite images of the Earth. “SpaceEye uses the Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) instrument from the Sentinel-1 mission as a baseline data source—as radar data is not affected by cloud cover. Space Eye then combines this radar data with historical optical imagery to generate an AI image prediction of what it looks under the clouds. This can unlock significant use cases in agriculture, land-use monitoring and disaster response among others,” explained Tom Keane CVP for Microsoft Azure.

Furthermore, Project Turing, which is built on Microsoft Azure, uses artificial intelligence to analyze and enhance the resolution of satellite images. The company highlights that the technology is already running on Azure to improve Bing Maps worldwide, which covers more than 50 percent of all user requests.

Microsoft also announced new partnerships with Airbus, Blackshark.ai, iDirect, Esri, as well as Orbital Insight. These partnerships will bring high-resolution satellite imagery, new data insights, and more flexible solutions to Microsoft’s Azure Space ecosystem. “The power of extracting and leveraging data collected from space can transform entire industries and create new paradigms,” Keane said yesterday.

The free Matrix Awakens open-world experience is now live on Xbox consoles

The very impressive The Matrix Awakens: An Unreal Engine 5 Experience is now live on Microsoft’s Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S consoles.

This new title, which is kind of a blend of a video game and cinematic experience, is completely free to download and play and provides a rather exciting look at the future of video game graphics and gameplay with its incredibly realistic visuals and detailed virtual world powered by Unreal Engine 5.

“An original concept written and cinematically directed by Lana Wachowski and James McTeigue, this boundary-pushing technical demo features Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss reprising their roles as Neo and Trinity while also—in a blending of the real and unreal—playing themselves,” reads the official Microsoft Store description for The Matrix Awakens. “Many of the VFX crew from the original film came back together for the digital execution of the experience, including John Gaeta, Kim Libreri, Jerome Platteaux, George Borshukov, and Michael Gay, in collaboration with teams across both Epic Games and partners such as SideFX, Evil Eye Pictures, Weta FX (formerly Weta Digital), and many others.

“The demo morphs from breathtakingly realistic cinematic to fast-paced third-person shooter experience, complete with action-packed car chase sequence, and also provides a rich, vastly detailed open world to explore, set within the universe of ‘The Matrix’.”

Unreal Engine 5 is the latest iteration of the Unreal Engine game engine that’s used to create a number of major video games from Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order to Gears of War 4. The Matrix Awakens is very much a showcase for Unreal Engine 5’s capabilities with its virtual city that measures up to 16 square kilometres and boast 38,146 drivable cars, realistic lighting and sound, and thousands of humans and vehicles running on complex AI systems.

Many future titles are expected to be made using Unreal Engine 5 while several existing ones, such as Fortnite, are planning to upgrade to the new engine sometime in 2022.

How to troubleshoot Windows Movie Maker has stopped working

Movie Maker is video-editing software that was formerly bundled with older Windows platforms as part of the Live Essentials suite. Some users have stated on forums that Movie Maker stops working for them.

Windows Movie Maker has stopped working and Windows Movie Maker does not start are two of the more regular WMM error messages that pop up on some users’ desktops.

The stopped working error message can pop up when uses try to open files within the video editor. Consequently, the software crashes and closes or freezes during playback.

Below are a few resolutions that might fix Windows Movie Maker’s stopped working error messages and occasional freezes.

What do I do if Movie Maker stopped working?

1. Close other software when running Movie Maker

  1. Right-click the taskbar and select Task Manager to open that utility’s window.fix audio buzzing
  2. Then close all software listed under apps on the Processes tab by right-clicking them and selecting End task.
  3. In addition, you can close some third-party software listed under background processes to free up more RAM for WMM.
  4. To remove startup programs, such as antivirus utilities, select the Startup tab. Then select software there and click the Disable button.

Movie Maker might stop working and display a crash error message when there is a lack of RAM on your laptop or desktop.

There might be insufficient RAM for Movie Maker when you’re running lots of other software alongside it. That’s more likely if your desktop or laptop has a small amount of RAM to start with.

So make sure there are no other software windows open on your taskbar when you’re running Movie Maker. In addition, close third-party software in your system tray.

2. Update the graphics card driver

2.1. Update drivers manually

  1. Press the Windows key + R together at the same time on your keyboard.
  2. This should open the Device Manager, which will look like the picture
  3. From Device Manager find the driver you need to update.device manager windows 10
  4. Right-click on this field and choose Update.
  5. If an update for this driver is available, follow on-screen prompts and install it.
  6. When done, restart your Windows 10 system.

You can also troubleshoot the issue by manually updating your system which is not hard to do, just access the Device Manager and follow the instructions above.

On the other hand, updating drivers automatically is more reliable and safe for your PC, plus you only have to select the drivers you need to update and the rest will be done by specialized software.

  5. Click the Tools menu.
  6. Select Options on the Tools menu.
  7. Then select the Compatibility tab on the Options window.
  8. The Compatibility tab includes a list of third-party filters. First, deselect filters that end with an .ax extension.

The Windows Movie Maker has stopped working error message can often be due to incompatible video filters.

So deselecting third-party video file filters listed on Movie Maker’s Compatibility tab (in the classic version) might fix the software.

4. Use a third-party alternative to Windows Movie Maker

The freeware program Codec-Sniper provides an overview of the codecs and filters on your PC and their status. The program tells you if a codec is correctly installed or not with its Status column.

Codec-Sniper also includes a Delete button with which you can erase codes.

So you can remove video codes with Codec-Sniper. Alternatively, you can uninstall codec packs, such as K-Lite, via the Programs and Features Control Panel applet.

Fix: Only secure content is displayed on Windows 10/11

Microsoft is constantly improving the Microsoft Edge browser and surely their users’ online safety is a priority. However, on some occasions, when surfing the Internet, certain unexpected content-related messages might appear.

One such message is Only secure content is displayed that users got in Internet Explorer or in Microsoft Edge. This happens when trying to access a website that has both secure and non-secure content on its page.

Why do I get the Only secure content is displayed pop-up?

This doesn’t mean that the website you’re trying to access is insecure. In fact, this type of notification appears mostly while trying to access financial websites, such as your bank’s website for example.

Websites usually display mixed content, which includes both secure and nonsecure content. For example, the login form that you use to access your bank website is secure content because it users HTTPS protocol to communicate to a web server.

On the other hand, elements such as images or banners use the unsafe HTTP protocol. Though more of the web traffic has been redirected through the HTTPS protocol lately, or web browsers have started to use it by default, but certain details still use the HTTP protocol.

And the above-mentioned error appears because some insecure content or web page might get access to secure content.

So this is unlikely to happen on regular websites, but some malicious websites might use this to get access to your personal information, and this is why Microsoft decided to include this notification and display only secure content.

Blocking insecure content is the default behavior on Microsoft Edge and newer versions of Internet Explorer, and turning it off comes with a slight security risk.

1. Try an alternative browser

Edge is overall a good and reliable browser, but if you keep getting error messages, the quickest fix is to switch to a different browser.

There are many good alternatives that use up a small number of system resources while having good loading rates.

We recommend you give Opera a try because it provides the best balance when it comes to stability, security, and performance.

The user interface is simple and easy to navigate. You can customize it to your liking and make it suit your workspace.

It has easy-to-use bookmarking options, you can create multiple folders and subfolders to keep track of your most important web pages.

On top of that, Opera integrates multiple social media platforms so you can access them easier, directly from its sidebar. Just log in and easily keep in touch with your peers.

The browser also has a large library of free, downloadable add-ons. You can integrate mini-games, productivity apps, translators, spellcheckers, and many more.

Another important thing to mention is that opera has a free built-in VPN. It secures your connection and helps you surpass geo-restricted content.

Opera

Avoid frequent browser errors by switching to a more stable and reliable tool such as Opera and customize it as you wish.
Free download Visit website

2. Remove the secure website error using Internet Settings

  1. Press Windows Key + S and type Internet Options. Select Internet Options from the list.
    internet-options
  2. When Internet Options window opens, navigate to Security tab and select Internet.
  3. Next, click on Custom level button.
    custom-level
  4. Scroll down to the Miscellaneous section and locate Display mixed content.
  5. You’ll be presented with three options. If you wish to always display mixed content, choose Enable. By choosing this option you won’t get “Only secure content is displayed” notification anymore.
    mixed-content-enabled
  6. Click OK button to save changes.
  7. Click Apply and OK in the Internet Properties window to apply changes.

Microsoft is trying to protect its users from potential dangers, but sometimes that extra layer of protection might be a nuisance, and people tend to turn it off.

Now when you know how secure and insecure content works, you can allow mixed content to be displayed and remove the Only secure content is displayed notification.
