Microsoft Store has changed a lot in terms of available games over the years. When the store first appeared, it mostly had casual games that were optimized for touchscreen devices.

By doing so, Microsoft tried to capitalize on the built-in touchscreen functionality of Windows 10. However, that’s not the case anymore, and now the store offers some of the best PC offline games to choose from.

As for the number of available games, we have to admit that Microsoft Store offers fewer triple-A titles than other digital distribution platforms, so you might not find every single game that you’re looking for.

You should also know that certain triple-A titles aren’t available for download on your PC via Microsoft Store while being available for download on Xbox.

This is most likely related to licensing issues, and many companies prefer to keep their latest games on their own digital distribution platforms. However, we do not doubt that these titles will become available for download on PC soon.

Although the number of available triple-A titles might be a problem for some users, Microsoft is working hard to bring more titles to its store, so we’re positive that this won’t be as big of a problem in near future.

Despite this minor flaw, having all these games available at your fingertips is great, especially since you won’t have to sign up for other distribution platforms. Just sign in to Windows 10 with your Microsoft account, open the Microsoft Store and download any game that you want.

A number of users reported that Microsoft Store games won’t download on their PC, but this is usually caused by a minor glitch, and it can be fixed rather easily.

If you’re looking for something more casual to play, Microsoft Store offers a wide array of casual and free games from various categories for everyone.

Microsoft Store offers something for both casual and hardcore gamers alike, however, don’t expect to find every triple-A title available in the store, but even with the current game roster, you’ll surely find something that suits your needs.

Over the years, Microsoft Store became a major distribution platform, and as you can see, it offers some amazing games for both casual and hardcore gamers alike. Also, you will find some of the best offline shooting games in the Microsoft Store.

Besides, if you looking for games integrated into the browser, give Microsoft Edge offline games a try.

My Laptop Is Not Restarting: 7 Tested Ways to Fix

If your computer won’t restart, you’re not alone. It’s a common issue, especially after a Windows update, a power outage, or even a blue screen. Sometimes it gets stuck on the restarting screen; other times, it just won’t boot back up at all.

We’ve already covered how to fix a PC stuck on restarting, but this guide tackles other cases too—like when your computer won’t restart properly, won’t shut down, or fails after a BIOS update or in Safe Mode.

Whether you’re on Windows 10, Windows 11, or using a Dell, HP, Lenovo, or Asus device, the steps below can help.

What do I do if the computer won’t restart?

1. Run the Power troubleshooter

  1. Press the Windows key + I to open the Settings app.
  2. Choose the Update & Security option.
    update windows 10 not restarting
  3. Select Troubleshoot from the left pane.
    troubleshoot
  4. Choose the Additional troubleshooters option.
    additional troubleshooters
  5. Click the Power option.
power option windows 10 not restarting
  6. Now, click the Run the troubleshooter button.
    run button

Let’s start by relying on the built-in troubleshooting tool to resolve the problem. Most reports suggest that the PC won’t restart properly problem occurred after an update, which isn’t uncommon for Windows 10.

Every major update is similar to a fresh installation regarding drivers, and meddling with those leads to massive issues. Either way, let’s give the troubleshooter a go; if it fails, we can safely move to the next step.

2. Try with the Clean Boot and SFC/DISM

  1. Type msconfig in the Windows Search bar and open System Configuration.
  2. Click the Services tab.
services tab windows 10 not restarting
  3. Check the Hide all Microsoft services box and click the Disable all button to disable all active third-party services.
    hide all
  4. Now, click the Apply and OK buttons.
    apply ok
  5. Finally, reboot your PC.

And, to address concerns about possible system corruption, we’ll need you to run two built-in utilities from the elevated Command Prompt. Here’s how to run SFC and DISM on Windows 10:

  1. Type cmd in the Windows Search bar.
  2. Right-click on Command Prompt and select Run as administrator.
  3. Now, type the command below in the command line and press Enter. sfc/scannow
    sfc windows 10 not restarting
  4. After its done, type the following command and press Enter after each: DISM /online /Cleanup-Image / ScanHealth DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth windows 10 not restarting
  5. Reboot your PC when everything ends (it can take some time) with the physical button.

If you’ve upgraded to Windows 10 over the Windows 7 installation, it’s pretty standard for certain third-party apps to fail you later. On the same note, it’s not uncommon for that transition to come out with corruption of system files.

This consequently leads to Windows 10 or 11 not restarting issues.

To address the first possibility, you need to start your PC in the Clean Boot mode (without any third-party applications beginning with the system).

3. Boot into Safe mode

  1. Press Windows key + I to open Settings.
  2. Choose Update & Security.
  3. Select Recovery from the left pane.
  4. Under the Advanced startup, click Restart now.windows 10 not restarting
  5. Choose Troubleshoot.
  6. Select Advanced options and then Startup settings.
  7. Click Restart.
  8. Choose Safe mode or Safe mode with Networking from the list.
  9. Try restarting your PC from Safe mode.

If the Clean Boot and utilities fail you, let’s ensure that some of the first-party secondary devices aren’t causing the problem. Some reports state that the Intel Management Engine (standard on many laptops) is causing the problem.

When in the Safe Mode, Windows 10 shouldn’t load this driver. If you can restart your device from Safe mode, we suggest checking the next step, which explains how to disable this service.

4. Disable Intel Management Engine

  1. Press the Windows + X keys and select Device Manager.
    device manager
  2. Double-click on System devices to expand it.
    system
  3. Right-click on the Intel(R) Management Engine Interface option.
  4. Choose Disable device from the contextual menu.
disable driver windows 10 not restarting
  5. Shut down your PC and start it again.
  6. Try restarting it again.

As we noticed in the previous step, the Intel Management Engine tends to break the restart option. This causes the Windows 10/11 not restarting problem.

5. Uninstall a third-party antivirus and scan for PUPs

  1. Download Malwarebytes AdwCleaner, here.
  2. Run the tool and click Scan Now.windows 10 not restarting
  3. Wait until the tool scans your system and click Clean & Repair.

Specific third-party antimalware solutions and Windows 10 are not cooperating correctly, especially if you have an older version installed.

If your antivirus interferes with the PC system, it might cause such troubles and prevent Windows 10 from restarting. If this is the case, you might consider another antivirus solution.

Plenty of lightweight security software will work smoothly in the background while you do anything else.

To benefit from high-quality security and error-free running time, you should choose one of the best antivirus software in TotalAV.

6. Reset your PC

  1. Open the Settings app.
  2. Choose the Update & Security option.
    update windows 10 not restarting
  3. Choose Recovery from the left pane.
    recovery option
  4. Click the Get started under the Reset this PC section.
    get started
  5. Choose the Keep my files option.
    keep windows 10 not restarting
  6. Finally, click Next, followed by the Reset button.

If you’re still stuck with the Windows 10/11 not restarting issue, you might need to reset your PC to factory values. We advise you to choose the keep my files option to prevent losing vital information.

7. Perform a clean reinstallation

Finally, if none of the previous steps haven’t relieved you of the issue at hand and you’re still unable to restart your PC, we can only concur that a clean reinstallation is the next logical step.

If you’re unsure how to reinstall Windows 10, we have provided in-depth instructions in our guide. After the reinstallation, you shouldn’t have any more issues.

How do I force restart my computer?

If your Windows 10 or 11 PC won’t restart, try a hard reboot—just press and hold the power button until it shuts down, then wait a minute and power it back on. That said, avoid using this method frequently.

Some users also face issues like the Settings app resetting after reboot, random restarts in Windows 11, or even being stuck in a reboot loop or automatic repair loop. These are often caused by system errors, power issues, or hardware failures.

If your PC takes too long to restart, malware could be the culprit—try scanning with Windows Defender or one of the top antivirus tools for Windows 10.

Fingerprint is Not Working in Windows 11 [Fix]

You are probably stuck with your fingerprint sensor not working on Windows 11; let’s explore all the solutions with you.

Fingerprint sensors are used to grant or deny access to computer systems. They can be easily enabled on plenty of devices that meet the minimum requirements listed by Microsoft developers.

However, some users already claimed that the fingerprint sensor is not working in Windows 11. This can be problematic as it leaves your PC open to unauthorized access.

In addition, you’ll have to use your password or PIN to sign in instead, and since we understand how irritating this can be, we’ll offer you support on this matter.

Today we’ll show you a couple of options that will help. Fortunately, they are not different from what you know about the Windows 10 fingerprint not working issue.

Why is my fingerprint sensor not working in Windows 11?

  • Liquids or dirt – Before assuming your fingerprint sensor is not working due to a hardware or software error, you should check it and clean it as nicely as possible.
  • Temporary bugs – Some hardware or software components might run into trouble due to random and temporary bugs usually caused by viruses. To prevent these annoying issues, you should try these best antivirus options for Windows 11.
  • Poor updates – Another reason your Windows 11 fingerprint sensor might not work is poor hardware and software updates. Also, you should check out some helpful information about how long Windows 11 updates take to install.

  2. Expand Biometric devices, right-click on the needed driver, and select Update driver.

2. Uninstall and reinstall the related drivers

Is a built-in scanner better than a USB fingerprint scanner?

Built-in scanners are more convenient, so if you’re buying a new device, go with a laptop with a fingerprint scanner.

A USB scanner is your only option if you’re on a desktop PC. However, if you’re a laptop user, we don’t recommend using external scanners for convenience.

If you forget your scanner, you might not be able to log in without your password, so keep that in mind.

How to Download Xbox Gaming Services

It seems like Microsoft is making significant efforts toward improving gaming on Windows 10. Social media users nowadays can now download the Xbox Gaming Services app on the Microsoft Store.

The app is rumored to be released as a part of the new gaming features that are currently being tested by Microsoft in new Insider builds.

What is the Xbox Gaming Services app?

Xbox Gaming Services app

The Gaming Services app was initially spotted by a Twitter user, you can find this one as a free application under utilities and tools.

The Twitter user also stated that the Game Services app has been introduced as a part of the Game Core updates that have been scheduled for Xbox Live and UWP.

It enhances the performance of the Windows Store as the app is going to facilitate the installation of large apps through the Windows Store.

How can I download the Xbox Gaming Services app?

You will end up installing two drivers along with the app on your PC, the first one is Gaming Filter (Microsoft Gaming Install Filter Driver), and the other one is XVD Disk Driver (Microsoft Gaming Filesystem Driver).

Click here to download the Xbox Gaming Services app.

What permissions does the Xbox Gaming Services app require?

The app description states that it requires a couple of permissions from the user. It requires access to your internet connection and all your peripheral devices, files, programs, and apps.

Furthermore, it also requires permission to directly manage other apps, collect information regarding other apps, install a service on the machine, and control system policies related to already installed apps.

Some clues have forced gamers to think that Microsoft is working pretty hard to bring gaming to Windows. You might not have noticed that Windows 10 19H1 preview builds directly download the State of Decay Game from XboxLive servers rather than the Microsoft Store server.

Therefore, it is evident that your Windows 10 PCs will soon get Xbox features. In the future, we can expect that the gap between the PC and the Xbox platform will be reduced.

Microsoft Store will be offering its games for both platforms i.e. PC and Xbox. It is also expected that the current Xbox gaming infrastructure will be used to rebuild Windows Store for PC. And this should help get rid of situations where gaming services download is stuck on pending.

We hope you managed to find out all you needed to know about the Xbox Gaming Services app, as well as download it to your PC.

How to Fix No HDMI Signal from Your Device [5 Tested Tips]

HDMI is a digital audio or video interface that delivers crystal clear sound and pictures through a single cable by simplifying cabling so you can get the highest quality home theatre experience.

This uncompressed interface lets large streams of audio/video digital info be transmitted at high speed, reducing the number of cables you need to set up by way of a set-top box, DVD player, AV receiver, or an audio/video monitor like your digital TV.

When HDMI-connected components cannot recognize and communicate with each other, the HDCP encryption embedded in the signal isn’t properly recognized by one or more of the components connected. Thus you get HDMI no signal.

Speaking of HDMI issues, let’s see more related problems that our readers reported. Read on carefully; it might the same for you.

Why is my monitor saying no HDMI signal from your device

How do I fix no HDMI signal from your device?

⇒ Get Fortect Driver Updater

2. Change turn-on sequence

You can try a different turn-on sequence instead of turning on the monitor first, then the media player, or another HDMI source component; try turning it on in reverse and see if it helps.

If your media player or other component is connected to a home theatre receiver, then to the monitor, try different combinations to startup the devices and use the one that works.

If this doesn’t fix the HDMI signal issue, try switching to a different input on the monitor and switching back to HDMI to check if the signal locks incorrectly. Once you get the best sequence, note it down for future use.

You can also try the following steps:

  • First, disconnect all HDMI sources from the inputs.
  • Unplug the TV (monitor)/LCD power for about ten minutes.
  • Plug the TV (monitor)/LCD back in.
  • Connect the HDMI cable one device at a time.
  • Turn on the device

Repeat the last two steps for each HDMI port as it is also possible to stumble across an HDMI port that does not work.

3. Check resolution output settings

If your player or any other HDMI source device has a video resolution output setting, check whether it has been set to Auto. If it is, reset it to match your monitor’s native resolution or that of your video projector. Check if that provides better stability.

4. Change the HDMI connection

If changing the turn-on sequence doesn’t work for the no HDMI signal from your device issue, try directly connecting your player to the monitor, as this bypasses the home theatre receiver, so you can check if the latter is the likely culprit when the direct connection works.

In this case, keep the HDMI source directly connected to your monitor and have a separate audio connection to the receiver.

5. Check for firmware updates

If none of the above solutions works, check if any firmware updates are announced for your HDMI source or home theatre receiver. Also, you can check for firmware updates for the monitor itself, which can resolve the HDMI no signal from your device issue.

This is because outdated firmware can block your connection and cause many issues. Besides, many users have reported Windows 10 HDMI has no signal after update, which too can be fixed by installing the latest version of the firmware.

Edge will continue to support Manifest V2 extensions until January 2026

We know there are a lot of Chrome users out there so it’s time to clear the air and remove all doubts, as we’ve seen that some Edge users are confused on the matter.

Back in September, Google announced revised plans to continue supporting Manifest V2-based extensions in Chrome for at least one more year.

Over at Redmond, Microsoft is ready to follow suit with its updated roadmap regarding implementing Manifest V3 and phasing out Manifest V2.

Now, according to the updated documentation, organizations can continue using Manifest V2 extensions on systems configured with corresponding policies until at least January 2024.

Expect Manifest V2 support to last until at least 2024

It’s important to know that as of now, the Redmond tech giant no longer accepts Manifest V2-based extensions in the Edge Add-ons Store, be they Public or Hidden.

That being said, developers can still push updates for existing extensions to maintain or add new features so keep that in mind.

Actually, the next step in phasing-out old extensions is to stop accepting updates, except the ones upgrading Manifest V2 to V3, and prevent the browser from running V2-based extensions without enterprise policies.

At some point, it will become impossible to use Manifest V2 extensions in the Edge browser at some point, so there’s another detail to take into account.

Furthermore, Microsoft is not yet ready to announce when it will stop accepting updates for Manifest V2 extensions, so it won’t yet disable them for good on all systems, including enterprise.

The tech giant stated that it will continue analyzing the concerns raised by developers and exploring the right path for the Microsoft Edge Add-ons ecosystem.

If you are looking for more information about Manifest V3 extensions for Microsoft Edge in the official documentation.

Even though developers are not at all happy with Manifest V3, even with many changes implemented since the initial proposal, the practice shows that most extensions, including content blockers, will survive the dreaded migration.

Speaking of Microsoft’s Edge browser, you came to the right place if Edge is not working on Windows 10 anymore.

We can also show you how to reinstall Microsoft Edge with Administrator privileges, just in case that is what you were looking for.

Google is ending Chrome support for Windows 7 & 8.1 in early 2023

Still using good old obsolete operating systems such as Windows 7, or Windows 8.1, are you? You will soon have to change strategy, though, because Google will no longer have it.

We all knew that Microsoft was planning to end support for Windows 8.1 starting in January 2023, so Google decided that it was time for it to cut ties with the old OS as well.

In fact, starting early next year, support for Google Chrome on Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 will be terminated by the company.

No more Chrome support for Windows 7 & Windows 8.1

Google stated that, with the release of Chrome 110, which is tentatively scheduled for February 7th, 2023, it will officially end support for Windows 7 and Windows 8.1.

It goes without saying that, before this happens, you’ll need to ensure your device is running Windows 10 or later to continue receiving future Chrome releases.

As we’ve mentioned, this initiative matches Microsoft’s end of support for Windows 7 ESU and Windows 8.1 extended support on January 10th, 2023.

On that note, know that those sticking to the good-old Windows 7 and arguably not-so-good Windows 8.1 are now getting more notifications with prompts to update to Windows 10 or Windows 11.

Furthermore, the recently released Google Chrome 108 is now displaying warnings about the upcoming end of support on Windows 7 and 8.1:

To get future Google Chrome updates, you’ll need Windows 10 or later. This computer is using Windows 7.

In other words, browsing the modern internet using an unsupported operating system and browser is risky, so companies don’t want to be held accountable for anything that happens.

Customers can actually silence the new Chrome notifications with a Windows Registry value that suppresses the update prompts.

Note that the Chrome web browser has a market share of over 65%, followed by Safari with roughly 18% and Microsoft Edge with 4.32%, which uses the Chrome rendering engine with enhancements from Microsoft.

Don’t worry, as older versions of Chrome will continue to work, but there will be no further updates released for users on these operating systems.

You might ask yourself how people are still using these old versions of Windows, but allow us to remind you that there still are a lot of people that haven’t upgraded from Windows XP.

Currently, Windows 7 is still running on over 10% of all Windows systems worldwide, while Windows 8.1 is just 2.7%, according to Statcounter GlobalStats.

So, if you currently haven’t upgraded from obsolete versions such as Windows 7 or Windows 8.1, it is strongly recommended you do so.

Making the move to a supported Windows version before the above-mentioned date will ensure you continue to receive the latest security updates and Chrome features.

How can I suppress Chrome notifications?

  1. Press Win + R and type regedit.
  2. Navigate to the following location and create a new DWORD 32-bit value: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Google\Chrome
  3. Rename the value to SuppressUnsupportedOSWarning.
  4. Open the value and change its data to 1.

Remember that your online security is also at stake when using older versions that no longer receive security updates.

If you need any assistance in upgrading to Windows 10, remember that we are here for you. And, if you’re having problems upgrading from Windows 7 to Windows 10, we can help with that as well.

Are you still using Google’s Chrome browser on Windows 7 or Windows 8.1? Share your experience with us in the comments section below.

Install Error – 0x800f0900 Windows Update [Solved]

Windows 10’s latest major update, the April Update (1803), proved hard to install for many users.

Even though more than half of Windows 10 users have April Update installed, a good number are still plagued by update issues, as evidenced by the failed installation on Alienware laptops.

As reported by users, one of the most repetitive update errors goes by the code 0x800f0900. This error makes the system either roll back to the previous major update, or the boot loop sequence appears.

Luckily, there’s a way to solve this error. Or, in this case, ten different ways to confirm that all the possible culprits are covered. If you cannot address this, follow the steps we enlisted in this guide.

What does the install error – 0x800f0900 mean?

The error 0x800f0900 is an error that has to do with system files. It means the system files needed for the Windows 10/11 update are corrupt or faulty.

This stops you from installing the update and rolls your PC back to the last major update.

There are numerous reasons that can cause Windows 10 not to update. One of the apparent causes is network failure during the update.

This leads to all sorts of Windows update errors, including the error code 0x800f0900. Also, a failed Windows update can be down to corrupt system files or some failing components.

Why does the install error 0x800f0900 appear on Windows 11?

The error 0x800f0900 occurs on Windows 11 when users want to install the Cumulative Update (10.0.22000.100) (KB5004300). The major causes of this error are corrupt or broken system files and installation mode.

To fix it, you can use the solutions provided in this guide. These fixes are general solutions that work for the error code.

This issue is similar to Windows 11 error code 0x800f0830, which can occur if your system installation is damaged and needs repair.

Similar to the 0x800f0805 Windows Update error, this can be fixed by resetting the update components or running the built-in troubleshooter.

If you don’t fix this issue, you might get that your device is missing important security and quality fixes, which means that your system is vulnerable, but luckily there are ways to fix this problem.

How do I fix the 0x800f0900 Windows Update error?

1. Make sure you can upgrade to 1803 in the first place

To our knowledge, system requirements stay the same for update 1803, a.k.a. the April Update, as they were for Windows 10. Here are the current specifications you’ll need to meet to run Windows 10 (1803):

  • RAM: 1 GB for 32-bit and 2GB for 64-bit
  • Hard disk space: 16 GB for 32-bit and 20 GB for 64-bit
  • CPU: 1 GHz or faster
  • Screen resolution: 800 x 600
  • Graphics: Microsoft DirectX 9 or later with WDDM 1.0 driver
  • Internet access

However, there are some novelties concerning specific devices. As we already reported, there’s an issue with Intel-produced SSDs.

In addition, Microsoft discontinued support for Conexant MEDIA Sound Drivers. Hence, the devices with the Conexant Legacy sound drivers are hardly upgradable and can lead to the error 0x800f0900 during the Windows update.

Furthermore, ensure you have a stable connection throughout the update process. This is of the utmost importance, and the lack of a stable network is a known culprit for update errors.

2. Uninstall the antivirus and enable Clean Boot

The same goes for software, as the hardware might cause the update error at hand. Various third-party applications can cause update errors like the error 0x800f0900, especially concerning significant Windows updates.

This especially applies to third-party antivirus solutions, which cause chaos during the updating process. Because of that, we recommend disabling or uninstalling the third-party antivirus until the updates are successfully administered.

In addition, you can navigate to Task Manager > Startup and disable all non-Microsoft programs from starting with the system. This way, you’ll avoid possible issues with third-party programs.

Looking for a safe antivirus that will not interfere with your system? Then, you should consider one of the best antivirus software for Windows 10/11 in ESET NOD32.

This stunning software runs smoothly in the background to protect your system from malware without causing errors. Also, it offers total security online from attackers and helps to protect your privacy.

It just about ticks all the right boxes for top modern antivirus software.

3. Run Windows Update troubleshooter

Sometimes, the Windows 10/11 update error 0x800f0900 is caused by glitches that are hard to pinpoint. For this, you can use the Windows Update troubleshooter to know the cause and probable solutions.

  1. 1. Press the Windows key + I to open the Settings app.

  2. 2. Select Update & Security.

    update
  3. 3. Choose Troubleshoot from the left pane.

  4. 4. Select the Additional troubleshooters option.

    additional
  5. 5. Click on the Windows Update option.

    windows update
  6. 6. Finally, click the Run the troubleshooter button.

    run troubleshooter

This built-in tool should restart the update procedure and fix possible stalls. After that, you should be able to update Windows 10 to April Update as usual.

4. Clean temporary files

  1. Open This PC or File Explorer.
  2. Right-click on the partition you want to relieve of unnecessary data and open Properties.
  3. Click on the Disk Cleanup button.
    error 0x800f0900 windows 10
  4. Click on the Clean up system files option.
  5. Check all boxes and click OK.
    error 0x800f0900 windows 10

You’ve probably heard of (or even tried) the rollback option available in the Recovery menu. Namely, Windows 10 stores installation for the previous version so you can roll back the system if something goes awry.

On paper, this is great. However, some users suggested cleaning these and other temporary files can resolve the Windows update 0x800f0900 error.

5. Run SFC and DISM

  1. Press the Windows key + X and select Command Prompt (admin).
  2. In the command line, type sfc/scannow and press Enter.error 0x800f0900 windows 10
  3. Wait until the scan ends and restart your PC.

And this is how to run the DISM utility:

  1. Right-click on the Command Prompt and run it as an administrator.
  2. In the command line, copy-paste these lines one by one and press Enter after each: DISM /online /Cleanup-Image / ScanHealth DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
  3. Wait until the procedure ends. Note that it might take some time.
    error 0x800f0900 windows 10

If there’s a case of corruption within the system files, Windows offers two different (but similar) utilities. The first tool is SFC or System File Checker, which, upon running, verifies the integrity of the system files.

The DISM (Deployment Image Servicing and Management) tool is the more advanced alternative, which fixes the more complex system errors.

It can use Windows Update resources to replace the damaged files and fix the error code 0x800f0900.

6. Restart Update services

Like every other application, Windows 10 updates are downloaded and stored before installation. This procedure accompanies various services and one folder (SoftwareDistribution).

Occasionally, at least one cog in this machine will fail, and the Windows update process will result in an error, like the 0x800f0900 error code.

This can be done manually via the Command Prompt, or you can run the batch (script) file, which automatizes this procedure.

7. Remove peripheral devices

Peripheral devices (or, more importantly, their respective drivers) can bring a bag of update issues. The problem with legacy drivers and Windows 10 is well-known but still hard to resolve as the functional drivers lack, and generic drivers won’t suffice.

If the cause of the error code 0x800f0900 on Windows 10 and 11 is outdated or missing drivers, you can trust Fortect Driver Updater to take care of that. This driver updater will automatically scan, fix, and install original drivers to keep your PC firing on all cylinders.

Besides updating your drivers, we recommend uninstalling all peripheral devices and removing them during the update procedure.

After the major update is successfully installed, you can reconnect the device (or devices) and look for updates. Just don’t forget to disable the driver updates if you manage to find the working legacy driver and install it manually.

8. Update with the Update Assistant

Updating Windows 10 via the standard OTA updates was far from flawless since the introduction. Especially when updates are major releases – basically different versions of the system.

A much better option than relying on standard updates is to use one of the two tools and update to April Update manually.

The first tool is Update Assistant, and you can find it here. Just run it and wait for the confirmation. After that, follow the instructions and wait until the update is administered.

This should help you get past the error code 0x800f0900 during the Windows 10/11 update.

9. Use Media Creation Tool

  1. Download Media Creation Tool.
  2. Right-click on the tool and choose to run it as an administrator.
  3. Accept the Licence Terms.accept
  4. Now, choose to Upgrade this PC.
  5. If the issue is persistent, plug in the USB drive (6 GB or more) and restart Media Creation Tool.
  6. Click on the Create installation media (USB flash drive, DVD, or ISO file) for another PC option.create next
  7. Pick the preferred language, architecture, and edition, and click Next.use next
  8. Choose a USB flash drive and then click Next.usb flash
  9. After the bootable drive is created, restart your PC.
  10. Open the USB with installation media and click Setup.
  11. Update Windows 10.

If the Update Assistant utility fails to fix the error 0x800f0900, you can still use Media Creation Tool to install Windows 10 updates. You can use two ways to install updates with Media Creation Tool.

The first includes updating the system via the tool, and the second concerns bootable drives or ISO files. You can try both ways and see for yourself

10. Perform a clean reinstall

Finally, if none of the previously recommended steps did any good, clean reinstallation is the only viable solution within our grasp. We have a step-by-step guide on how to reinstall your OS, which might help fix the Windows update error 0x800f0900.

It won’t take too long, and you still get to keep your data. Of course, you’ll need to back up files from the system partition on the secondary partition or an external drive.

The bootable thumb drive you’ve created with Media Creation Tool in the previous step should be good enough to reinstall the system.

That’s it. Hopefully, one of the steps got you into clear, and the install error – 0x800f0900 isn’t plaguing you anymore.

While still on the topic, you can check our guide on how to fix the Windows Update error on Windows 11 or the 0x8024402f error on any OS.

KB5021866 for the Windows 11 Beta Channel brings loads of taskbar bugs

It’s time to talk Insider builds once again, and what better occasion than the release of two brand new builds to the Windows 11 Beta Channel.

As you know, since months ago, Microsoft started flighting two separate builds to Beta Channel Insiders, one of them has new features rolling out, while the other has new features off by default.

Today, we are going to take a closer look at Builds 22621.1028 and Build 22623.1028 (KB5021866) and analyze what we received.

Please keep in mind that we are one week away from the December 2022 Patch Tuesday release, so it will be pretty interesting to see what Microsoft has prepared for us.

What’s new with Builds 22621.1028 and 22623.1028?

Speaking of the latest operating system (Windows 11), we invite you to take a look at some of the neat upcoming features.

Also, remember that if you haven’t yet upgraded, Microsoft is now flighting Windows 11 to Windows 10 22H2 users via OOBE.

Please note that starting today, December 7th, Insiders in the Dev and Beta Channels will see quests start to light up in the Feedback Hub covering various scenarios Microsoft is looking for feedback on.

You can actually take the opportunity to try out some new features, test them out, and provide feedbak on your experience.

Furthermore, the Bug Bash will be running from 12am PST December 7th, to 11:59pm PST December 12th, so keep that in mind.

It goes without saying that, Insiders who participate, will receive a badge in the Feedback Hub once the Bug Bash is over.

Now, circling back to the Beta Channel release, know that Insiders who were previously on Build 22622 will automatically get moved to Build 22623 via an enablement package.

Let’s take a look at the changelog and discover together what the Redmond-based tech giant has prepared for us.

Fixes in Build 22623.1028

[General]

  • Made another fix to address explorer.exe crashing repeatedly in safe mode.

[Taskbar & System Tray]

  • Fixed an issue where, with the system tray design updates, auto-hiding the taskbar would stop working after you had interacted with the hidden icons flyout.
  • Made a small refinement for tablet-optimized taskbar users to make it a bit easier to expand the taskbar without invoking the Start menu.
  • Fixed an issue which could lead to the taskbar jump lists and preview thumbnails not appearing in the correct position for Insiders with 2-in-1 PCs.
  • Improved the transition animation when switching between collapsed and expanded views of the tablet-optimized taskbar.
  • The tablet-optimized taskbar should collapse more reliably now after launching an app from the Start menu.
  • Fixed an explorer.exe crash when using Alt + F4 with the show hidden icons flyout in the system tray open.
  • Updated the battery icon’s tooltip to let you know if your device is charging slowly.
  • Fixed an issue causing the top half of the media controls in Quick Settings to be missing sometimes.
  • Fixed a GDI handle leak in recent builds related to receiving certain types of notifications. This could cause UI issues or explorer.exe crashes for Insiders who receive a lot of notifications.
  • Fixed an issue that was causing the NVIDIA icon in the system tray to show empty notifications.

[Search]

  • Fixed an issue causing search to not work in the previous flight for Insiders with Arm64 PCs.

[Settings]

  • Fixed an issue where the sleep recommendation on the Energy Recommendations page and Battery & Power page were sometimes inconsistent.

[Task Manager]

  • Task Manager colors in light and dark should display correctly now for people with their mode set to Custom.

Fixes for BOTH Build 22621.1028 & Build 22623.1028

  • Fixed an issue that affected some games and applications. This issue was related to GPU performance debugging features. This lowered the expected game performance.

Known issues

[General]

[Taskbar & System Tray]

  • The taskbar takes longer than expected to transition to the touch-optimized version when switching between desktop posture and tablet posture.

[Task Manager]

  • When using the search box at the top of Task Manager, Task Manager may become unresponsive.
  • Filtering by publisher name does not match correctly on the Processes page.
  • Some services may not show in the Services page after filtering is applied.
  • If a new process is starting while a filter is set, then that process may appear for a split second in the filtered list.
  • Some dialogs may not render in the correct theme when applied from Task Manager Settings page.
  • The data content area of the Processes page may flash once when theme changes are applied in the Task Manager Settings page.
  • The Startup apps page in Task manager does not list any apps for some Insiders. If you are impacted, please use Settings > Apps > Startup for the time being.

This is pretty much what we are dealing with in terms of new features, fixes, and known issues when it comes to 22621.1028 and Build 22623.1028 (KB5021866).

Remember that Windows 11 version 22H2 is still new and full of bugs and glitches, so we’re going to have to be patient while Microsoft sorts everything out.

The company recently warned of database connection issues affecting Windows apps and there is no current workaround for the problem.

What can I do if I can’t install KB5021866?

How to Fix OBS Stream Keeps Freezing/Lagging

Many things can affect the OBS performance on your PC, causing it to experience difficulties in its functionality. Streamers complain that the OBS stream keeps freezing when they use it on their computers.

Also, users report the OBS client crashing recurrently during use, especially when playing games.

Why does the OBS stream keep freezing?

A common factor that may be responsible for the problem is network connection issues. Streaming on OBS needs a stable network, so you can experience freezing and lagging if the connection is poor.

Furthermore, other factors causing the OBS stream to keep freezing or lagging are:

  • Outdated or corrupt OBS client – When the OBS client running on your PC is outdated, or OBS files are corrupt; it’ll affect its performance. Hence, it won’t work with capability, resulting in frequent lagging and freezing.
  • Third-party app interference – The OBS app may conflict with other programs running on your PC for various reasons. Apps like antivirus software can impede OBS’ ability to interact with the needed components on your computer.
  • Outdated graphics cards – Streaming on OBS uses lots of graphics ability, so it needs stable and updated graphics drivers to work smoothly. However, the streaming process may freeze or lag if the graphics drivers are outdated.

The causes for the OBS stream’s frequent freeze or lag may differ on various devices. However, you can fix the issue by troubleshooting your PC.

How do I fix the OBS stream if it keeps freezing or lagging?

We recommend you go through the following preliminary checks:

If the freezing continues, try the solutions below:

1. Update your graphics driver

  1. Press Windows + R keys to prompt the Run window, type devmgmt.msc, and click OK to open the Device Manager.
  2. Click on Display Adapters, select the graphic driver from the drop-down menu, and click the Update driver option.
  3. Select Search automatically for drivers.
  4. Restart your PC, then check if the freeze and lag in the OBS stream persist.

Read more about how to update graphics drivers on Windows 11 if you have issues getting around the steps above.

A faster alternative is using a driver updater specialized tool. Outbyte Driver Updater is a tool that will automatically find and update any outdated driver.

3. Power cycle your router or modem

  1. Hold the power button on your router for about 10 seconds.
  2. Unplug the Ethernet cable connected to the router and unplug the router from its power source.
  3. Wait for a few seconds, then connect the cables to your router and plug them into a power source.
  4. Press the Power button to switch it on.

The process may differ for different devices. However, it will help refresh the network, making its connection faster and fixing network issues causing the OBS stream to freeze.

4. Reduce GPU consumption on OBS

  1. Right-click the Start button and launch the OBS client.
  2. Go to the Sources at the bottom of the screen, right-click on the Game capture option, then select Properties.

Reducing the GPU consumption on OBS can fix the freezing and lagging issues users experience.

5.  Uninstall and reinstall OBS

  1. Press Windows + R to open the Run dialog box, type appwiz.cpl, then press Enter to open the App list.
  2. Select OBS from the program list and click Uninstall.
  3. Follow the onscreen instructions to uninstall the app.

Microsoft Store Blank White Screen [How-To Fix]

The commodity of Microsoft Store’s faultless performance is an unexplored field for certain users. Besides already standardized errors with the distinctive code, some users report freezes accompanied by black, blue, or white screens respectively, when trying to access the Store in Windows 10.

The Microsoft Store blank white screen is a grave problem that renders Microsoft Store completely unusable, so we prepared some of the most common solutions in order to address it.

In case you’re looking at the blank screen instead of the Store offerings, make sure to check them out below.

How can I fix the Microsoft Store blank white screen issue?

1: Run the Windows Troubleshooter

The built-in automatized troubleshooter that Microsoft faithfully introduced with Windows 10 has a rather low success rate. However, when something like this occurs, we’ll need to deploy all available steps before posting the error report to Microsoft. So, without rushing, let’s move through the list starting with the Windows App Troubleshooter.

Follow the instructions to run the dedicated Windows Troubleshooter and, hopefully, resolve the issue at hand:

  1. Press Windows key + I to open the Settings app.
  2. Open the Update & Security section.windows 10 store black/blue/white screen
  3. Select Troubleshoot.
  4. Scroll to the bottom and expand ‘‘Windows Store Apps” troubleshooter.windows 10 store black/blue/white screen
  5. Click on the ”Run this troubleshooter” button.

2: Download the alternative troubleshooter

As we already said above, the built-in automatized troubleshooter is lackluster for the majority of complex errors Microsoft Store users experience. Furthermore, for that or some other reason, Microsoft provides users with a downloadable tool that specializes in Windows\Microsoft Store issues. Instead of focusing on alternative apps, this tool will focus on issues within the Store itself.

If you’re not accustomed to its use, make sure to check these steps:

  1. Download the troubleshooter.
  2. Navigate to the download location and run the Troubleshooter.windows 10 store install button missing
  3. Click Next and follow the instructions.

3: Disable certain third-party applications

These variants of blank screens don’t exclusively point toward the Store bug. Namely, there’s a good chance that some of the third-party applications might’ve affected the Store’s performance and caused the Microsoft Store blank white screen issue. The first pick goes to antivirus solutions which tend to block Microsoft Store execution. We don’t want to point fingers, but it seems that McAfee blocked Store for some users.

Nonetheless, there are certainly other antimalware solutions that can provoke the same unwelcome outcome. So make sure to disable the antivirus for the time being and restart the Store. Also, we advise you to disable VPN or proxy if you tend to use them. They can also obstruct the Store connection and thus the result might be the same: black, blue, or blank white screen error.

4: Reset the Store’s cache data

When things go awry with the Microsoft Store, the most common solution you can apply, besides the Windows Troubleshooter, is to run the preinstalled executable. To make things simple, ”wsreset.exe” is the command you’ll need to run in order to reset the store’s cache. Once you’ve done it, the possible corruption caused by pilled-up cache data should be resolved.

Here’s how to do it in a few simple steps:

  1. Close Microsoft Store.
  2. In the Windows Search bar, type wsreset.
  3. Right-click on WSreset and run it as an administrator.windows 10 store black/blue/white screen
  4. Restart your PC and look for changes.

5: Check the connection

The connection can be a possible reason for black, white, or blue error screens users have experience. Making sure that your connection is well-established is essential, so we advise you to perform a standard check-up of both your software and equipment before we can move to additional steps.

Follow these instructions to confirm that the connection isn’t the thing invoking Store issues:

  • Try disabling VPN/proxy for the time being.
  • Reset your PC and router/modem.
  • Use wired connection instead of wireless.
  • Run Connection troubleshooter.

6: Make sure the time and region are properly set

Microsoft Store service is heavily dependent on your time and date settings. These might seem unimportant, but Store servers need to be in sync with your system settings. In case those are misconfigured, you won’t be able to access the Store and would encounter the Microsoft Store blank white screen problem.

Here’s how to make sure that your time and date are properly set in Windows 10:

  1. Right-click Start and open Settings from the Power menu.
  2. Select Time & Language.windows 10 store black/blue/white screen
  3. Under the Date & Time section, enable the ‘Set time automatically‘  and ‘Select time zone automatically‘.windows 10 store black/blue/white screen

Additionally, the best-performing region setting in regards to Store is the United States. Namely, certain Store features seem to be malfunctioning with the different region settings, so you can try and change the region, as well.

Follow these instructions to change your regional settings in Windows 10:

  1. Open Start again and choose Settings.
  2. Select the Time & Language section.
  3. Choose Region and language from the left pane.windows 10 store black/blue/white screen
  4. Change country or region setting to ‘United States‘.
  5. Restart your PC and try using Store again to see if the Microsoft Store blank white screen issue persists.

7: Run SFC and DISM

Since Microsoft Store is an inseparable part of the platform, it’s quite prone to various system errors. It utilizes system files and those can get corrupted because of misuse or virus infections. For that purpose, you can turn to System File Checker, the command-line tool which checks the integrity of system files and fix them.

Here’s how to run it in Windows 10 via Command Prompt:

  1. Right-click Start and run Command Prompt (Admin).
  2. In the command line, type sfc/scannow and press Enter.
  3. Wait for the scanning\repairing to end and restart your PC.

Furthermore, if the SFC fails to identify system issues, that’s when the DISM tool can come in handy. The ”Deployment Image Servicing and Management” tool also runs through Command Prompt, but it appends a more thorough approach.

If you’re not accustomed to running DISM, follow these instructions closely:

  1. Type cmd in the Windows search bar, right-click on the Command Prompt and run it as an administrator.
  2. In the command line, copy paste these lines one by one and press Enter after each:
    • DISM /online /Cleanup-Image / ScanHealth
    • DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
  3. Wait until the procedure ends (it might take up to 10 minutes).
  4. Restart your PC.

8: Re-register Store with PowerShell

The common approach you’ll take with a standard application can’t be applied to Microsoft Store. You can’t reinstall it with the conventional approach, but there’s a way to restore it to its default values. This procedure should, hopefully, resolve the stall within the Store and relieve you of the frozen screen.

In order to run it, you’ll need to use the PowerShell elevated command-line. Follow these instructions to re-register Microsoft Store:

  1. In the Windows Search bar, type PowerShell, right-click on the PowerShell and run it as admin.
  2. Copy-paste or type in the following command in the command line and press Enter:
    • Get-AppxPackage -allusers Microsoft.WindowsStore | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register “$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml”}

9: Update Windows

Frequent updates can be irritating, to say the least, but many of those bring, besides security patches, a resolution to system issues. So, if you’ve decided that enough is enough and set metered connection limit or postponed updates, now is the time to check for updates. Maybe they’ll resolve the black\white\blue screen issue in Microsoft Store.

Follow these instructions to check for system updates manually:

  1. In the Windows Search bar, type Updates and open ”Check for updates” from the list of the results.
  2. Click on Check and install available updates.
  3. Your PC system will reboot and there’s a good chance that Microsoft Store will work as intended.

10: Reset your PC

Finally, if none of this was enough to resolve the Microsoft Store blank white screen problem, the only remaining option is to make your way to Recovery and reset your PC to factory settings. By doing so, you’ll basically have the same outcome as with the complete reinstallation. However, you get to preserve your files, which makes it much less painful.

Here’s how to Reset your PC to factory values and sort out Microsoft Store issues:

  1. Right-click Start and open Settings.
  2. Choose Update & Security.
  3. Choose Recovery in the left pane.
  4. Expand Reset this PC.windows 10 store black/blue/white screen
  5. Click Get started.
  6. Preserve your personal data or remove it. It’s your choice.windows 10 store black/blue/white screen

With that, we can wrap it up. In case you’re still bothered by the Microsoft Store blank white screen issue, make sure to post your error on the official forum and hope for the best.

No Login Screen on Windows 11: 6 Solutions to Get it Back

Windows 11 is the latest iteration from Microsoft and one of the most refined. It offers a complete revamp for most aspects, exciting features, and a user-friendly interface. But, many users reported no login screen in Windows 11.

This could be after you power on the computer from sleep/hibernation or after a complete shutdown. So, let’s find out all about why the Windows login screen is not showing and the solutions for it.

Why does my computer not show the login screen?

Here are some of the reasons Windows won’t show a login screen:

  • A bug in the OS – In most cases, it was a bug in the installed version of Windows 11. Since the iteration is relatively new, there might be such issues.
  • Windows Update in process – Some users reported that Windows ran updates as soon as the computer was turned on, and as a result, Windows starts but there’s no login screen. Instead, users see a black screen for a few minutes.
  • Fast startup – The feature, though meant to reduce the boot time, can sometimes conflict with the boot process. Due to this, you can’t login in Windows 11.
  • Corrupt user profile – If a Windows 11 local account is not showing on the login screen, the user profile could be corrupt.

How do I fix the no login screen error on Windows 11?

Note icon NOTE
If you cannot boot Windows without a login screen, use Safe Mode to execute the fixes listed here.

Before we head to the slightly complex solutions, here are a few quick ones you can try:

  • Press Ctrl + Alt + Del on the login screen in Windows 11 to refresh the interface.
  • Hold the power button to turn off the computer and then turn it on.
  • Check for any available Windows updates and install them.
  • Disconnect all non-critical devices and peripherals from the PC—for instance, the printer, speaker, and headphones, amongst others.

If these don’t work, the fixes listed below surely would:

1. Disable Login Password

  1. Press Windows + R to open Run, enter regedit in the text field, and then click OK.Launch Registry Editor
  2. Click Yes on the UAC prompt that appears.
  3. Next, navigate to the following path or paste it into the address bar at the top and hit Enter.Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\WinlogonWinlogon in registry
  4. Check if there is a DefaultUserName string present.
  5. If you can’t find one, right-click on the empty space, hover the cursor over New, select String Value from the context menu, and name it DefaultUserName.create new string in registry
  6. Double-click on the string, enter your account username under Value data, and click on OK to save the changes.edit string Value data
  7. Create another string value and name it DefaultPassword.
  8. Double-click on it, enter your account password under Value data, and click on OK to save the changes.edit string value
  9. Check if there is a AutoAdminLogon string present. In case there isn’t one, create it as discussed earlier.
  10. Double-click on the string and enter 1 under Value data.edit string value
  11. Close the Registry Editor.

You aren’t required to enter the password every time the computer is turned on. Instead, the sign-in will be automatic. This will fix things when you can’t login with a password in Windows 11.

Also, you can permanently delete the three strings if you want Windows 11 to ask for the password when signing in. Just in case, check out our guide on removing the login password in Windows 11.

2. Modify the registry

  1. Press Windows + S to open Search, type Registry Editor in the text field, and click on the relevant search result.registry
  2. Click Yes in the UAC prompt that appears.
  3. Now, paste the following path in the address bar and hit Enter:Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control
  4. Now, right-click on the empty portion, hover the cursor over New, select DWORD (32-bit) Value, and then name it AutoStartDelay.autostartdelay to fix windows 11 no login screen
  5. Enter 180000 under Value data, and click OK to save the changes.value data
  6. Now, press Windows + R to open Run, type services.msc, and click OK.services
  7. Double-click on the Microsoft Edge Update Service to open its properties.microsoft edge update service
  8. Choose Automatic (Delayed Start) or Manual from the Startup type dropdown menu, and click OK to save the changes.change startup type to fix windows 11 no login screen
  9. Once done, restart the computer for the changes to come into effect.

3. Perform a Startup Repair

Note icon NOTE
Only perform the Startup Repair if you bypass the error by pressing Ctrl + Alt + Del at log-in. If you forced a shutdown of the system thrice to access the Safe Mode, Windows has already performed Startup Repair, and you can head to the next fix.
  1. Press Windows to launch the Start menu, click on the Power button, press and hold the Shift key, and choose Restart.Launch Windows RE
  2. Your system will now enter the Windows RE (Recovery Environment).
  3. Click on Troubleshoot.Troubleshoot
  4. Select Advanced options.Advanced options
  5. Click on Startup Repair.Startup Repair
  6. Choose an account to proceed.choose account
  7. Enter the password and click on Continue to initiate the Startup Repair.enter password
  8. The repair process should begin in a few moments.

Startup repair is a built-in utility that allows users to run a scan and fix the problems preventing Windows from booting, and this should fix things if there’s no login screen in Windows 11.

4. Reinstall Windows 11

If nothing has worked, the only option that worked for others is to reinstall Windows 11. All you have to do is create a bootable drive and choose it when turning on the computer.

This primarily works when there are issues with the computer but can’t be fixed by either Startup Repair or an SFC scan. By the time you have successfully reinstalled Windows 11, the login screen should appear, if it did not earlier.

5. Create a new user account

  1. Press Windows + R to open Run, type netplwiz, and hit Enter.netplzwiz
  2. Now, click on the Add button.add
  3. Enter a Microsoft-linked address in the text field, and proceed with the on-screen instructions.microsoft account
  4. You can create a local account by clicking on Sign in without a Microsoft account (not recommended).sign in without a microsoft account to fix windows 11 no login screen
  5. Next, click on Local Account.local account
  6. Fill out the various fields here, and proceed with the account creation process.create account

If a particular account is not showing up on the login screen in Windows 11, it could be corrupt. To verify the same, create a local account, and check if it’s listed. If this works, move the data from the problematic account to the new one, if possible.

6. Perform a system restore

  1. Press Windows + R to open Run, type rstrui, and hit Enter.rstrui
  2. Select Choose a different restore point, and click on Next to proceed.choose a different restore point
  3. Choose a restore point from the list, and click on Next.restore to fix windows 11 no login screen
  4. Now, click on Finish to start the restore process.restore to fix windows 11 no login screen

Whenever you encounter an error on Windows, and the fixes don’t seem to work, a simple trick is to perform a system restore, and it should fix things where there’s no login screen in Windows 11.

You can also perform a system restore by using a specialized tool as it can complete this process in a simpler and safer way.

How can I prevent the no login screen error from reoccurring?

You can employ specific measures that will prevent the no login screen error and boost your computer’s performance.

You must first update the drivers on Windows 11. Outdated drivers are likely to cause a bunch of issues. We recommend using Outbyte Driver Updater, a reliable tool that scans for updates and keeps the installed drivers up-to-date.Update driver

Another rule you must follow is to shut down your computer after each session. When you shut down the computer, it gives a break to the various components, and they start fresh when you turn on the PC.

Malware disguised as applications and tools is also known to cause many errors. So, using an excellent antivirus to secure your system would be best.

Before you leave, find out how to configure auto-login in Windows 11 and eliminate such errors.

Clean Install Windows 10 on SSD: 13 Steps to Properly do it

Windows 10 is a free upgrade for those running the previous iteration and is one preferred choice. But for those already running Windows 10, a clean install on SSD is usually the best choice.

Xbox One is Not Finding Wi-Fi? Here’s How to Fix it

Xbox One consoles use Wi-Fi to connect to the Xbox Live service. This enables you to access features like online games and streaming videos. However, you cannot get such access when your Xbox One is not finding WiFi, as the connection has to work well to enable this.

There are several reasons, mostly technical, why your Xbox One won’t find Wi-Fi or other internet connections you can use. These prevent access to a network and also to Xbox Live.

When there’s no connection or the connection is not visible, you may get an error on your console’s screen giving suggestions to resolve the issue.

However, if you’re stuck and need quick-fix solutions to resolve the problem, try the solutions below.

What can I do if Xbox One is not finding Wi-Fi?

  • Check if you can see any other wireless networks.
  • Check if your other devices can see your wireless network. This helps determine if the issue is with your wireless router. If you have a computer, phone, TV, or other consoles for gaming, check if they can see your wireless network.
  • After every few seconds check if the network name (SSID) is broadcasted by your wireless router every few seconds. This lets other wireless devices discover the network. So, it may not be seen if your router isn’t broadcasting the Wi-Fi network name.
  • If no other wireless devices can detect the Wi-Fi, then your router is the problem, not your console. You can fix this by restarting the network hardware.

1. Clear the Alternate MAC address in Xbox

  1. Press the Xbox button on your controller to open the Guide menu.
  2. Navigate to the Profile & System tab and access Settings.
  3. Now, choose Network settings, then select Advanced settings.
  4. Access the Alternate MAC address option.
  5. Choose the Clear option to remove the existing alternate MAC address.
  6. Now, check the network connection by going to Profile & system > Settings > General > Network settings > Test network connection and see if the problem is solved.

We also have a complete guide on how to add an alternate MAC address on your Xbox, but you may also use it for removing it.

2. Check for interference with your signal

If the router broadcasts the SSID or network name, then the Wi-Fi may be working properly, so you may want to check whether something is interfering so Xbox One is not picking up any Wi-Fi networks. In this case, do the following:

Disconnect third-party headsets as these can cause interference. They broadcast on the same frequency as the wireless router, so disconnect the power from the wireless headset and check if you can see the Wi-Fi.

To do this:

  1. Open the guide on Xbox
  2. Select Settings.
  3. Click All Settings and choose Network.
  4. Tap Network settings.
  5. Select Setup wireless network on the left panexbox Network settings
  6. Check if your wireless network is listed under Which one’s yours? If it is listed, then it means some third party headsets are affecting the connection, especially if they have a transmitter (base station).

If it isn’t listed, check for any other wireless interference. This can be anything from electronic devices like microwave ovens, air conditioners, CRT televisions, wireless headsets, baby monitors, other wireless networks, cordless phones, and wireless speakers.

3. Power cycle your console and network hardware

  1. Unplug the power cable from the router, modem or gateway.
  2. Press Xbox button to open the guide.
  3. Select Settings and choose Restart console.
  4. Then tap Yes to confirm and wait five minutes.
  5. Plug in the router and wait for all of the lights to return.
  6. Plug in the rest of your hardware and check if you still experience the same connection issue.

4. Soft reset your Xbox

  1. Press and hold the Xbox Power button on your console for 10 seconds until it turns off.
  2. Unplug the system from the outlet and wait at least 10 seconds.
  3. Plug it back in and press the Xbox button on your console to turn it on.

5. Check that the router is specifying the correct SSID for Xbox One

  1. Verify that the router is broadcasting the correct SSID.
  2. Configure the wireless settings on your Xbox console.
  3. Use the SSID that is broadcast by the router.
  4. Open the guide and select Settings.
  5. Select Network settings
  6. On the Network Settings screen, select Setup wireless network and check the SSID name.

6. Restore your router to factory defaults

Note icon NOTE
Restoring your router to factory defaults resets your SSID and deletes the current wireless password.

When you do this, all the router settings return to how they were when you bought the router. To reset your router, follow these steps:

  1. Check the back or bottom of the router for a button or small hole labeled Reset.
  2. Press the button and hold for at least 10 to 30 seconds. When the lights on your router blink, the router has been reset.
  3. Reconfigure the SSID and password of your wireless router.

7. Reset your internet connection

  1. Unplug the power cord from your modem.
  2. Disconnect the Internet connection cable
  3. Unplug the power cord from your router and wait 60 seconds
  4. Connect the power cord and internet connection cable to the modem.
  5. Once the modem lights are back to normal, connect the power cable to your router.
  6. Wait 60 seconds and check if you are connected to the Internet.

Once your router is reset, check to see if you can see your wireless network by doing this.

8. Check if your firmware needs an upgrade

Router firmware that has older information may not work correctly. Manufacturers of these routers usually provide updates for performance improvement, security, connectivity, and stability. Updating your firmware can resolve issues with connections and slow performance.

Download and update then install them yourself, but ensure your computer is directly connected to the router via wired connection so as to upload the new firmware file directly to your router.

Once updated, use the steps below to check that your wireless network is working. If you still don’t see your wireless network, go to the next solution.

9. Hard reset your Xbox console

  1. Turn the system on and press the Xbox button on the controller.
  2. Select Profile & system > Settings > System > Console info.
  3. Select Reset Console.
  4. Now, you can either choose Reset and remove everything removing all data from your Xbox, or select Reset and keep my games & apps that will not delete your games or game data.

If Xbox is still not finding Wi-Fi connections, you may need to get new network hardware because it may indicate that your router is incompatible with your console and with Xbox Live. Of course, you may also opt for a cable connection instead if that is available.

Similarly, the router may be damaged or doesn’t work correctly. If it is incompatible or damaged, check with your hardware manufacturer.

Microsoft Store Keeps Opening: How to Stop it

Microsoft Store is a free app that helps you browse, purchase and manage your digital content. With Microsoft Store, you can enjoy your favorite movies, music, TV shows, and apps on your Windows PC or device.

That being said, it is more useful when you want to open it intentionally rather than having it open itself randomly. Elsewhere, users also complained about the Microsoft Store not opening but we have already addressed that in our detailed guide.

Why does my Microsoft Store keep opening?

Wondering why the Microsoft Store keeps opening? Here are some possible reasons:

  • Virus infection – If you have multiple instances of Microsoft Store, you can check to see if there is an active malware infection on your computer. This can cause the Microsoft Store to close immediately after it opens.
  • Program conflicts – If there are other programs installed on your PC that use similar services as the Microsoft Store, this can result in a conflict and cause them to stop working correctly.
  • Pending updates – If you have a bunch of programs that are due for an update, Microsoft Store will keep popping up until you finish updating them.

How do I stop the Microsoft Store from popping up randomly?

As always, a few preliminary checks could save the day. These include:

  • Close the Microsoft Store from the Task Manager. Sometimes, Windows won’t end tasks in Task Manager.
  • Shut down any background processes that could be using the app.
  • Finally, try restarting your PC and see if it gets rid of the problem.

1. Scan for viruses

  1. Press the Windows key, search Windows Security and click Open.
  2. Select Virus & threat protection.
  3. Next, press Quick scan under Current threats.
  4. If you don’t find any threats, proceed to perform a full scan by clicking on Scan options just below Quick scan.
  5. Click on Full scan to perform a deep scan of your PC.Full scan
  6. Wait for the process to finish and restart your system.

2. Reset Microsft Store cache

  1. Hit the Windows search icon.
  2. Type WSReset.exe in the search bar and hit Run as administrator.

The Microsoft Store will be closed temporarily so that its cache can be cleared out. When you reopen it after running this command, any problems with your installation should be resolved because all of your old data has been deleted from its servers.

The process may take a while, so if you are working on something, you may want to postpone this process until such a time when you are ready.

3. Repair and reset the Microsoft Store app

  1. Hit the Windows key and click on Settings.settings windows 11
  2. Click on Apps on the left pane then Apps & features on the right pane.
  3. Locate the Microsoft Store app, click on the three vertical ellipses and select Advanced options.
  4. Click on Repair.
  5. Go back and click on Reset.

If none of the above methods work for you, consider reinstalling the Microsoft Store or starting Windows in Safe Mode. This will allow the OS to start with only a minimal set of critical services and possibly establish the issue.

Should you encounter other related problems, such as Microsoft Store not installing apps, feel free to refer to our helpful guide on how to bypass this error.

We’d love to know which method worked for you, so drop us a comment down below.

Microsoft Store Error Code c101a006 [Solved]

If you are using the new Windows 11 OS, or you prefer to stick to the old Windows 10 operating system on your mobile devices, you most definitely have stumbled upon the Microsoft Store error code c101a006 while trying to buy a certain application.

After viewing more and more online posts on this issue, I have decided to list the steps you need to take in order to the c101a006 error.

What is the c101a006 error code in MS Store?

This error code is directly linked to your Microsoft information account or the Xbox feature you have available on Windows.

In the tutorial below, we will be changing some options in the Settings feature of the operating system and see how it goes from there.

How do I fix the Microsoft Store error code c101a006?

1. Change your region

  1. Go to the Start screen of your Windows 10, 8.1 operating system.
  2. Select the “Settings” feature you have available on the Start screen.
  3. From the system settings please choose the “System application” feature.
  4. Now in the next window that pops up, you will need to tap on the “language + region” feature.
  5. Right next to the “Country/Region” topic you will need to select the supported region like “United Kingdom”.
  6. Set the Phone Language correctly.
  7. Set the Regional Format correctly.
  8. Scroll down to the bottom of this page and tap on the “Restart Phone” button.
  9. After the phone reboots, you will need to tap on the link posted below.
  10. Click here for Xbox
  11. Scroll down all the way to the bottom of the page and change the region in there as well with what you chose in the step above.
  12. Tap again on the “Settings” feature in Windows 10, 8.1.
  13. From the “Settings” feature tap on the “Phone” Settings.
  14. Now from the Phone settings, you will need to tap on the “music+video” settings.
  15. Find the “Connect with Xbox Music option” and turn the slider to “ON” position.
  16. Find the “Xbox Music cloud collection option” and turn the slider to “ON” position.
  17. Find the “Now playing on Xbox option” and turn the slider to “ON” position.
  18. Close the windows you opened so far and reboot your Windows 10, 8.1 Phone.
  19. Check again if you still get the error code c101a006 while trying to buy a certain application.

2. Hard reset your phone

  1. Back up all your important apps, files and folders from Windows 10, 8.1.
  2. Perform a hard reset for the phone using the Windows 10, 8.1 operating system.
  3. After the hard reset is done go back to the application you were trying to buy and try again to see if you get the error code c101a006.

3. Update your phone

Make sure that you’re running the latest OS version on your Windows phone. Outdated software versions often cause Windows Store issues and errors, such as the 101a006 error code, so make sure to cross this off your list.

4. Close background apps

If you’re running too many apps or games in the background, this may explain why you’re getting error c101a006. So, close absolutely all your apps running in the background and then try to complete your purchase. Hopefully, the Microsoft Store error code c101a006 won’t pop up on the screen this time.

These are the methods that I have found helpful when dealing with the error code c101a006 on Windows phones.

Reference by Pointer BSoD Error: 4 Simple Methods to Fix it

Blue Screen of Death errors shouldn’t be taken lightly since hardware problems often cause them. One is the Rreference_by_pointer BSoD error (also known as MSDN bugcheck reference_by_pointer 0x00000018).

This error can be a nuisance on Windows 10, but fortunately, there are a few ways to solve it, as we will show in this guide.

What causes reference by Pointer BSOD?

Like other BSOD, the reference_by_pointer blue screen error is mainly caused by hardware issues. Below are some of the known causes:

  • Memory issues: If you are facing the reference_by_pointer error with any stop code, your PC memory is the first thing you need to check. Most users have found the problem to be with their C drive. So, you need to run the CHKDSK command to fix any faulty memory partition.
  • Corrupt system files: Like other BSODs, a broken, faulty, or missing system file cannot be ruled out in this case too. The way out is to repair and restore fix these files using the built-in tools.
  • Activities of third-party apps: Sometimes, the reference by pointer error on Windows 10 can be caused by problematic third-party apps. You need to remove these apps using one of the best uninstaller software to restore normalcy.

How do I fix the reference_by_pointer error?

There are some prerequisite troubleshooting steps you need to try before proceeding to the solutions in this section:

  • Disable any overclocking setting and remove overclocking apps
  • Deactivate or remove third-party antivirus

If these do not work, you now apply the fixes below:

1. Run the CHKDSK command

  1. Press the Windows key, type cmd, and click Run as administrator under Command Prompt.
    cmd reference_by_pointer
  2. Now, type the command below and hit Enter: chkdsk c: /rchkdsk reference_by_pointer
  3. Press the Y key if you get any prompts, and wait for the command to do its thing.

The prominent cause of the reference_by_pointer (18) error issues with some partitions on the C: drive. Running the CHKDSK command has fixed this for many users and should help you too.

2. Repair system files

  1. Press the Windows key + S, type cmd, and select Run as administrator under Command Prompt.
    cmd reference_by_pointer
  2. Type the command below and hit Enter: sfc/scannowsfc scan
  3. Wait for the command to finish running, copy and paste the command below, and press Enter: DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealthdism
  4. Finally, wait for the command to finish running.

Since the reference_by_pointer ntoskrnl.exe error is a BSOD issue, you cannot rule out the possibility of broken system files. However, running the commands above should fix this and restore regular service.

You should still run the DISM command even if the SFC scan fails. However, you can now rerun SFC after DISM finishes.

To remove any uncertainty, it is advised to use a specialized BSOD fixer to prevent further errors and system issues from occurring.

3. Use the Windows Memory Diagnostic tool

  1. Press the Windows key + R, type mdsched.exe, and click the Enter button.
    mdsched reference_by_pointer
  2. Select Restart now and check for problems (recommended) option.
    restart now
  3. Finally, wait for your PC to restart, and the tool will check your RAM.

Another known cause of the reference_by_pointer error is problems with your RAM. Again, the Windows Memory Diagnostic is ideally placed to fix these issues.

If the tool does not work, you can employ a third-party tool in MemTest86.

4. Remove problematic software

  1. Press the Windows key + R, type msconfig, and click OK to run it.
    msconfig
  2. Once the Windows Configuration window opens, select Selective Startup and uncheck Load startup items.
    selective reference_by_pointer
  3. Now, go to the Services tab, check Hide all Microsoft services, and click the Disable all button.
    services
  4. Select the Startup tab and click on Open Task Manager.
    open reference_by_pointer
  5. Right-click each item on the list and choose Disable from the menu.
    disable
  6. Finally, go back to the System Configuration window and click Apply and OK.
    apply ok

After your PC restarts, check if your computer is stable. If there are no BSOD errors, the error was caused by one of the installed applications.

Now, you need to find the problematic application. To do that, you need to enable the applications in batches and check the one that brings the error again.

Then, all you need to do is to remove it using a top-notch uninstaller in CCleaner. This should restore normalcy on your PC. This solution has primarily helped fix the reference_by_pointer blue screen on Dell.

We have come to the end of this guide with this solution. The reference_by_pointer BSOD error can be problematic, but we hope you fix it with one of these solutions.

If you are facing other BSOD errors like system exception on Windows 10, check our detailed guide to fix it quickly.
