Here’s How to Fix Keyboard Driver Error in Windows 10

A keyboard driver error can make your keyboard inoperable, which leaves you having to struggle using mouse-only operations.

Windows 10, however, offers a few quick solutions you can use through the Device Manager, but you need to verify a few things first about your keyboard.

To resolve the keyboard driver errors in Windows 10, below are a few preliminary checks and quick fixes, as well as solutions that you can use going forward.

How can I fix a keyboard driver error in Windows 10?

1. Reinstall the keyboard drivers

If your keyboard isn’t working we suggest you reinstall your keyboard driver manually from Device Manager. To reinstall a certain driver you just need to follow these steps:

  1. Right-click the Start button and choose Device Manager from Control Panel.
  2. Go to the Keyboards section and expand it.

3. Locate your keyboard, right click it and choose Uninstall from the menu.

4. An window confirmation will appear and you just have to click  OK.

After the keyboard driver is removed you need to restart your computer. After your PC restarts the default keyboard driver will be installed and your keyboard should start working.

Automatically update keyboard drivers using third-party application

If you want to keep your PC and all its components safe and working flawlessly, you need to use third-party programs to update your keyboard drivers.

Needless to say, downloading and installing the wrong system drivers will cause permanent damage to your system, so we suggest you try a third-party tool.

Instead of trying the workarounds, a professional driver updater will reinstall your keyboard driver or, even better, all your corrupted drivers. They all deserve this special treatment since no driver problem can remain unnoticed for too long.

2. Examine your keyboard to ensure it isn’t damaged physically

examine-keyboard

Keyboard drivers (and other drivers generally) can cause issues, and sometimes the simplest of things can cause such malfunctions.

If for example, liquid spilled into the keyboard, you may have to replace it altogether. Another thing to examine is the cord of your keyboard to ensure no wires have been exposed.

If yours is a wireless keyboard, change the batteries to see if the corrupted keyboard driver issue disappears.

3. Check the keyboard connection

Before you resolve to find solutions for the corrupted keyboard driver, check that your keyboard is connected properly. If not, the driver probably didn’t load.

Follow the keyboard cable and ensure it is connected to the correct port.

USB keyboards have to be connected to USB ports on your PC, while the round PS/2 port keyboard should be connected to their corresponding port labeled with a keyboard icon or picture.

For wireless keyboards, check manufacturer instructions on how to connect them.

4. Check installation of Windows driver

There is a standard Windows keyboard driver that comes packaged with Windows operating system, so there’s no need for installation CDs or more downloads.

For the best driver installation for your keyboard, uninstall the previous or original driver and let Windows reinstall it once you restart your computer.

You can do this through Device Manager using mouse-only navigation.

5. Use proprietary software

There are keyboards that require proprietary drivers that are Windows-based so as to access any advanced keyboard features like hotkeys and media controls.

These drivers come with the CD that accompanied your keyboard, but you can also get them from the brand manufacturer’s official website.

Once the driver installation program is in place, run the program based on the given instructions from the manufacturer’s website.

6. Use Device Manager to update existing drivers

  1. Right-click Start.
  2. Select Device Manager.
  3. Expand the Keyboards category. Can’t type password in Windows 10
  4. Right-click the keyboard you want to repair.
  5. Select Update driver software and follow the prompts.
  6. A new window will appear asking How do you want to search for driver software?
  7. Select Search automatically for updated driver software – Windows will search online for an update to your keyboard. If one is available it will apply the update to your keyboard.
  8. Reboot to complete the change.

Oftentimes, the keyboard driver, if incorrect or outdated, can be corrupted. You can update it to the next version and see if it resolves the issue.

7. Use a Command Prompt

  1. Open the on-screen keyboard so as to type some commands below.
  2. Click Start.
  3. Using the on-screen keyboard, type This PC and wait for it to appear on the list.
  4. Right-click This PC.
  5. Select Properties.
  6. In the System window, click the Device Manager link.
  7. Find Keyboards and click to expand the list.
  8. Find Standard PS/2 keyboard – it may have an exclamation point next to it which indicates an error.
  9. Double left-click Standard PS/2 keyboard.
  10. A window with the title Standard PS/2 keyboard properties will display.
  11. Under General tab, it will show There’s a problem with the keyboard. Normal functioning shows The device is working properly.
  12. Delete the keyboard device.
  13. Re-detect it in the Device Manager.
  14. Click the Keyboards category to expand the list.
  15. Left-click Standard PS/2 Keyboard to highlight it.
  16. Press DEL on your keyboard to delete it. Windows will warn you that You are about to remove the device from the system.
  17. Click OK. If it asks whether you want to remove the driver, click Yes.
  18. Go to the Device Manager window, at the top.
  19. Click Action.
  20. Select Scan for hardware changes.
  21. Your keyboard will re-detect itself. Try and update it using Device Manager.
  22. Right-click Start.
  23. Select Device Manager.
  24. Expand the Keyboards category.
  25. Right-click the keyboard you want to repair.

  29. Reboot to complete the change.
  30. If Windows reports that The best driver software for your device is already installed, go to the next step.
  31. Open an administrative command prompt by typing CMD in the search bar.
  32. Right-click Command Prompt and select Run as Administrator.
  33. Use your mouse to highlight this text:
    reg add HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetServicesi8042prt" /v Start /t REG_DWORD /d 1 /f
  34. Right-click over top of the above-highlighted text.
  35. Select Copy from the dialogue menu.

  37. Select Paste.
  38. The text you copied should output to the command line.
  39. Restart your computer to force the keyboard to detect itself again.
  40. Check if the keyboard now works.

If you’re having trouble accessing Command Prompt as an admin, then you better take a closer look at this handy guide.

If the keyboard isn’t working, a simple registry edit can resolve the issue. To do this:

  1. Right-click Start.
  2. Select Run.
  3. Type regedit and press Enter. There is insufficient disk space to complete operation
  4. Click Edit.
  5. Click Find.
  6. Type kbdclass and press Enter.

  8. If you find the key, double click on it.

  10. Continue searching until you find and edit all UpperFilters keys. All of these should have a data file that includes only kbdclass
  11. Close Registry Editor.
  12. Right-click Start.
  13. Select Device Manager.
  14. Click Keyboards to expand the list.
  15. Find your keyboard and uninstall it.
  16. Restart your computer and see if after this your keyboard works.

If none of these solutions work, your keyboard is probably damaged so you can replace it.

8. Hardware and devices troubleshooter

  2. Click Troubleshooting.
  3. Select View all.view all - troubleshooting

Highly anticipated games like Final Fantasy XVI will never come to Xbox due to Sony exclusions

We now know that some pretty heavily-anticipated games won’t be coming to Xbox consoles due to agreements Sony has made with third party publishers.

This is according to Microsoft’s response to the XMA’s issues statement back in October, in which named several titles that were under “Xbox exclusion” agreements.

Apparently this tidbit had gone unnoticed until recently pointed out in a Twitter post by Xbox News for Koreans. As you can see in that post below, the list of titles under such exclusion agreements is pretty impressive…not to mention disappointing for Xbox gamers, particularly fans of the Final Fantasy roleplaying franchise.

Among the games for which Sony has procured console exclusivity: Final Fantasy XVI, Final fantasy VII Remake (all three installments), and the Silent Hill 2 remake. The Xbox exclusion stipulation doesn’t seem to apply to PC gaming, so we may at least eventually see PC versions of these games as has already been the case with Final Fantasy VII Remake.

Error Code 0x80070652 in Windows Update [SOLVED]

Besides the abundance of the new features, Windows 10 also has some distinctive problems that were rarely seen in the previous system editions.

One of those troubling segments is the update errors that are sometimes hard to cope with.

To make things even harder, there’s no way to ignore updates, like that, was the case in some other Windows versions.

At least, not without some effort. Don’t get us wrong, it’s advised to install updates, but what if some annoying error prevents you from doing so?

Just like the error we’ll try and address today. This error goes by the code 0x80070652, and if you’ve encountered it, you should definitely check the workarounds we have provided below.

How can I fix the error code 0x80070652 in Windows 10?

1. Restart the PC and run Windows Troubleshoot tool

  1. Press the Windows key + I to open the Settings app.
  2. Open Update & security.
  3. Under the left pane, click Troubleshoot.
  4. Click on the Windows Update and run the troubleshooter.

The first obvious step is the PC reboot. On more than one occasion, troubled users resolved update issues by a simple restart.

Restart can clear the infliction brought by some of the system’s features, like third-party programs or update services.

Another thing you should do as soon as possible is hidden under the refurbished Troubleshoot menu that came with the Creators update.

We now have the troubleshooting tools that cover most of the system errors in one spot. You can utilize the Windows Update troubleshooter by following the above steps.

2. Uninstall the latest updates and try again

  1. Open the Settings app, and go to the Update & security section.
  2. Click Windows Update in the left pane, and select the Advanced Options.
  3. Choose View your update history.
  4. Click Uninstall updates.
  5. Choose the latest update that probably caused the issue, and uninstall it.
  6. Check for updates again, and watch out for any interference that may corrupt the update during the process.

With Windows 10, we got ourselves a bunch of mandatory updates installed on (almost) a daily basis. And it’s quite hard to prevent them from appearing, almost impossible.

But, you can at least uninstall them if something goes wrong and check for updates again. If your problem goes deeper than this, you’ll probably want to check the remaining solutions.

3. Use third-party tool for Windows issues

Clutter in your system and damaged registry files can sometimes lead to errors like 0x80070652. Restoring the registry settings to their default values and performing an in-depth cleanup might prevent these issues.

We recommend using third-party software that delivers complete OS optimization.

4. Run the batch script

  1. Download the script file.
  2. Right-click on the file, and run it as an administrator.
  3. After the process is finished, restart your PC and check for updates once more.

It not uncommon for the Windows update services to get unresponsive. But, luckily, there’s a way to reset them.

Now, you can do that manually by resetting certain update services or use the pre-created batch script that can do that for you. You can use the batch file in a few simple steps.

If you want to create the script on your own, the complete instructions can be found in our comprehensive guide.

5. Reinstall the update file manually

  1. Go to the Microsoft Update catalog.
  2. Write the number of KB in the search bar.
  3. Download the file and run it.
  4. After the installation is finished, restart your PC.

If you have a problem with a major patch (build) you may need to restore your system in order to start from scratch. Follow the above instructions to reinstall the update file manually.

Luckily, that’s not the case with the small security patches or cumulative updates. You can download those from Microsoft’s official site and manually install them.

In the end, if all of these steps weren’t enough to overcome the error, you can use the final step to force the updates.

6. Use the Media Creation tool to install updates

  1. Download the Media Creation tool.
  2. Just in case, backup your data and license key.
  3. Start the desktop client, and click Upgrade this PC now.
  4. The tool should obtain and install the available updates.
  5. After that, restart your PC, and you’re good to go.

Media Creation Tool was introduced with Windows 10 to vastly improve the digital delivery of the system.

And it’s more than a welcomed tool for the multitude of upgrade/installation procedures.

Additionally, you can use it to force the updates and surpass the issues brought by the standard over-the-air update system.

That should wrap it up. These methods can be used for a large variety of update issues, but we advise you to check our site for detailed explanations and workarounds for a multitude of distinctive errors.

Fix: Error 0xc004f200 on Windows 10 & 11 [Activation, Office]

One of the most strange errors users of Microsoft Windows receive is the 0xc004f200 Windows, not a genuine error.

I say strange because it pops up even when using a valid Windows activation key. It is more interesting that Windows could have been showing it’s activated all along and working seamlessly, only to claim it lacks a genuine activation abruptly.

What follows are ongoing issues, including the operating system disabling some features. And again, the xc004f200 complications are not limited to Windows and will sometimes surface when transferring Microsoft Office to new PCs.

Well, don’t fret if this problem has confronted you, as we have prepared surefire solutions to this issue, as we did for the Windows 10 Activation Error Code 0xc004f211.

But before we discuss them, let’s see what triggers the 0xC004F200 (not genuine) warning.

What causes error 0xc004f200?

Most users have been encountering this issue after an update. For others, it’s when installing Office software on new PCs or after a hardware upgrade.

Now, the issue is not due to a software misconfiguration, but rather because of the nature of Microsoft’s licensing arrangements.

For instance, your MSDN key or TechNet Product Keys may become blocked if used in other machines since they are meant to be used by a single person.

But you may be able lucky and manage to use it for a while before the system senses. Your luck runs out with a system change, for example, after reinstalling Windows.

Again, despite users being aware of the strict Microsoft licensing terms, some users still give away product keys illegally or resell them on auction sites. Microsoft usually detects once such a key has been installed in a second machine and blacklists it, preventing further use.

So in short, the error emanates from Microsoft thinking that your software is pirated and happens to even users who have installed genuine programs.

How do I fix error code 0xc004f200?

Here are our recommended ways to get rid of this challenge.

  1. Change The Windows Product Key
  2. Uninstall latest Updates/Roll back changes

1. Change The Windows Product Key

You may get this fault if you reinstalled Windows using other media but the valid Recovery disks for your machine.

In such a case, you need to change the Product Key and install the one printed on your COA (certificate of authenticity) sticker.

Steps:

  1. Locate the COA sticker the on your computer case.
  2. Press the Windowskey + R.
  3. On the Search box, type SLUI.EXE 30xc004f200

Fix: Activation Error Code 0xC004C008 on Windows 10 & 11

Did you have any hardware issues recently? For example, if your hard drive crashed for any kind of reasons you will install the Windows 10 operating system again on a new hard drive you buy.

Unfortunately, after you are asked to enter your product key during the installation in the Windows 10 system you might end up with the Activation Error Code 0xC004C008.

The error code usually appears when you install the Windows product a specific number of times. The Windows 10  license can only be installed on a single device.

So, if your device crashes and you buy a new one or just change a hardware component, you might need a new product activation code.

Luckily for us, there is a very easy fix to this issue just like we did with the Windows activation error 0x80041023.

How can I fix Activation Error Code 0xC004C008?

1. Try phone activation

  6. Call the activation number after you chose the country.
  7. After you dialed you should be asked to write your Installation ID.
Note: type the installation ID in your phone.
  8. After you typed the installation ID it will ask you how many copies of Windows have been installed with this license and you should choose 1. If you choose any other option it will not work.
Note: The option 1 you chose means that you only used it once.
  9. After you did the steps above you should get a confirmation ID and then you are set to go with a workable product key.

2. Use Windows Activation Troubleshooter

  1. Press Windows Key + I to open Windows Settings.
  2. Scroll down, find the Update&Security tab , and open it.
  3. Open Activation tab.
  4. Click the Troubleshoot feature and wait until it finishes.
  5. See if the problem still persists.

Some users reported that they fixed this issue by using the troubleshoot option from the Activation options window. While this is not the fix for every user, this is a simple manipulation that you can try and which may fox your problem.

Before trying out this solution, sign in as Administrator. After you have signed in as an Administrator, here’s what you have to do.

3. Contact Microsoft

If the options posted above made no difference you can always call directly Microsoft office by dialing the number 18009365700 and explain what error message you get in your Windows 10 operating system.

They will most likely resolve it over the phone, and you can go on with your installation of Windows 10.

Graphics Card Overheating and Shutting Down? 4 Ways to Fix

The PC’s temperature is a critical aspect that cannot be ignored owing to its direct implications on the computer’s health. But, even many who took good care reported that the graphics card was overheating and shutting down the computer.

The temperature at which the PC shutdown is different for every manufacturer, but it’s usually in the 90-105°C range for GPU. So, if you are facing shutdown issues due to overheating, the temperature has reached that range. Though, it can easily be fixed.

Why do graphics cards overheat?

Some of the most likely causes for graphics cards overheating are:

  • High graphical settings: You might be playing games with graphics settings that are too high for a more limited GPU to handle.
  • Broken GPU fan: The fan on your graphics card might be broken or not running at the designed speed.
  • Dust buildup: Dust buildup in the fan, case, or even inside the CPU can lead to overheating.
  • Overclocking: Though meant to improve the PC’s performance, overclocking software can sometimes lead to increased temperature. An overclock stress test software can help in this case.
  • Degraded thermal paste: Another common reason behind high graphics card temperature is a bad thermal paste. Over time, the paste can dry up and will not effectively aid air release.

How can I check my GPU’s temperature?

The easiest way to check the GPU temperature is through the Performance tab in the Task Manager. Simply press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open the Task Manager.

Performance tab graphics card overheating and shutting down
GPU temperature in Task Manager

Some gaming PCs also come with pre-installed temperature monitoring apps users can check GPU temperatures with. Besides, you could use an effective third-party tool to monitor the CPU and GPU temperature.

What can I do if the graphics card is overheating and shutting down the PC?

Before trying the slightly complex solutions, here are a few quick tricks that might help:

  • Open up the case and use a can of compressed air to clear any dust buildup. An effective way to identify whether dust buildup (in the GPU case) triggers the issue is to run the PC without the case. If the temperature now drops, you know the culprit.
  • In a humid climate, the dust accumulation may turn solid, and, in this case, you will have to use a sharp object to remove it.
  • Make sure the graphics card is properly connected. An issue with the connection can also cause overheating in the graphics card and, subsequently, the PC shutting down.
  • Disconnect the power supply and press and hold the power button for 30 seconds to drain off any charge in the capacitors. Now, turn on the computer, and the problem should be resolved.
  • If you have overclocked the PC without putting in much consideration, it’s time you revert the changes.
  • If you’re having a problem while playing resource-intensive games, try reducing the FPS (Frames per Second).
  • Also, you could lower the resolution and make other changes that decrease the load on the GPU.

If these didn’t work, the ones listed next probably would.

1. Update your GPU’s driver

  1. Press Windows + R to open Run, type devmgmt.msc in the text field, and hit Enter.device manager
  2. Expand Display adapters, right-click on the graphics card, and select Update driver.update driver to fix graphics card overheating and shutting down
  3. Now, select Search automatically for drivers and wait for the best one to install.search automatically for drivers

Your graphics card’s driver will have a direct impact on the GPU’s temperature. If Windows is unable to find a better version, you can always update the drivers manually though it’ll be a tricky and time-taking process.

This is where an effective tool comes into the picture. A driver updater utility scan will tell you if your GPU’s driver is old or faulty. Then you can install a new GPU driver with the driver updater software.

2. Disable Cortana

  1. Press Windows + I to open Settings, choose Apps from the navigation pane, and click on Installed apps.installed apps
  2. Click on the ellipsis next to Cortana, and select Advanced options.advanced options
  3. Now, disable the toggle under Runs at log-in.disable to fix graphics card overheating and shutting down

Once done, restart the computer for the changes to come into effect and verify whether the graphics card is still overheating and shutting down. If that is the case, head to the next solution.

3. Change the thermal paste

The thermal paste is a critical part of the GPU and helps keep the temperature under check by aiding heat transfer. Check if it’s dried up. Though the thermal paste usually works fine for about 5 years, there are times when it goes bad sooner.

You can purchase a thermal paste off the web or get one from a nearby store. These are readily available. Once you have it, replace the one on your PC, and the graphics card will no longer be overheating and shutting down.

4. Get the hardware inspected

If nothing else works, the last option is to get the hardware inspected by an expert. However, before you do that, try running MemTest86+, an open-source tool that looks for issues with the RAM and fixes them. It most likely won’t yield results but is worth a shot.

The hardware specialist will be able to identify what’s causing the overheating, whether it’s the connection, malfunctioning components, or the GPU, and provide you with a solution.

Remember that playing GPU-intensive games can also cause overheating. This, in turn, can lead to a BSoD on that particular game.

With these solutions, you can easily fix things when the graphics card overheats and shuts down. While you are here, also find out how to make Windows run faster without modifying the hardware.

6 Ways to Remove the DS4Windows Driver Right Away

DS4Windows is configuration software that emulates Xbox 360 controller features for the PS4’s classic DualShock control pad. For most gamers, this is an essential driver.

However, not all players find it useful especially when DS4Windows fails to detect your controllers. Most prefer to remove the DS4Windows driver along with the drivers associated with it. If you fall under this category, keep reading to find out how to uninstall it.

What is the DS4Windows driver?

DS4Windows is a small application that allows you to use your DualShock 4 on your PC wirelessly. It creates a virtual COM port that acts as an input device for your Windows PC.

DS4Windows remove ds4windows driver

Some of the benefits of installing the DS4Windows driver include:

  • No need for third-party tools – Installing a custom driver means you can use your controller as a PC gamepad without using any other third-party tool.
  • You can use your DualShock 4 as an input device – There’s no need of using a keyboard or mouse. This makes it easier to navigate menus, select options, and perform actions in games.
  • No need for another gamepad – You can play games that support controllers on your PC without having to purchase another gamepad. However, your controller may be detected but not working.
  • Customizable – You can customize your controller’s touchpad button functions in several different ways.

While the DS4Windows driver has a decent array of features, it’s not going to give you all of the features that are available in official controllers made specifically for gaming consoles.

For instance, the DS4Windows driver can only be used to connect the PS4 DualShock 4 controller to a Windows PC. It cannot be used as a general controller for other platforms such as Linux or macOS. If you find yourself in such a predicament, it would be best to remove the DS4Windows driver.

What driver does DS4Windows use?

ViGEmBus Driver is the driver players manually install via DS4Windows’ controller setup shown directly below. That driver, like others, enables its hardware device to communicate with Windows.

It’s a kernel-mode driver designed for USB device emulation. ViGEmBus currently supports Xbox 360 and DualShock 4 USB control pad emulation for Windows.

Uninstalling the DS4Windows software with standard methods doesn’t remove that device driver. Therefore, you’ll need to remove the ViGEmBus Driver separately. These are the different ways you can remove the ViGEm Bus Driver associated with DS4Windows.

How can I uninstall the DS4Windows (ViGEm) driver?

1. Uninstall the ViGEmBus Driver with a third-party uninstaller

  • Incompatibility – In some cases, incompatibility can be a significant factor behind games crashing in Windows. Make sure your PC meets the minimum requirements for each.
  • Conflicting applications – A few users reported that the problem was triggered by conflicting third-party applications, removing which fixed things in no time.
  • Outdated drivers – If the video/graphics drivers are outdated, games may crash when changing the resolution.
  • Problems with the hardware – Oftentimes, it’s an issue with the hardware, overheating of the PC, or overclocking/underclocking that leads to the problem.

Here are a few games affected by the problem:

  • Modern Warfare crashes when changing resolution – Several users reported that Modern Warfare crashes every time they change resolution.
  • Warzone crashes when I change resolution – Warzone is another game affected by the issue.
  • COD WaW crashes when changing resolution – When this happens, running the game in compatibility mode might help.
  • Watch Dogs crash when changing resolution – Our solutions should help you in this case.

What can I do if a game crashes when changing the resolution?

Before trying the slightly complex solution, here are a few quick ones that might help:

  • First, restart the computer and check if you can now make the changes.
  • Make sure the CPU is not surrounded by objects and has enough free space to release the hot air.
  • Try running the game as administrator and gaming client, if there’s one, and verify whether the game still crashes after changing the resolution.
  • Update the game as well as Windows to the latest available version.
  • Disable all app overlays that are currently configured.
  • Most games have a Windowed Mode, which can be used if it crashes after changing the resolution. Users generally reported issues in the Full-screen mode, so if you are using it, switch to Windows Mode, and things should be up and running.

If none of these work, the solutions listed next should.

1. Uninstall conflicting applications

  1. Press Windows + R to open Run, type appwiz.cpl in the text field, and hit Enter.appwiz.cpl
  2. Select what seems to be the problematic application, and click Uninstall.uninstall apps to fix games crash when changing resolution
  3. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the uninstall process.

If you cannot identify what’s causing the error, check the error logs in Windows and find out the conflicting application.

Though unlikely, if the error logs aren’t very helpful, start by uninstalling non-critical third-party programs until the error is fixed.

2. Disable display scaling and run in compatibility mode

  1. Locate the game launcher, right-click on it, and select Properties.properties
  2. Navigate to the Compatibility tab, tick the checkbox for Run this program in compatibility mode for, and select a previous iteration of Windows.compatibility mode to fix games crash when changing resolution
  3. Now, click on Change high DPI settings.change DPI settings
  4. Tick the checkbox for Override high DPI scaling behavior. Scaling performed by:, then choose Application from the dropdown menu, and click OK to save the changes.disable to fix games crash when changing resolution
  5. Again, click OK in the properties window.

Once done, restart the computer for new settings to come into effect and check if the game still crashes when changing resolution. For most users, this did the trick.

3. Manually change the resolution file

Most games have a text file (.txt) where users can manually choose the resolution. Though it’s not recommended that you take this route, the method still comes in handy in situations like this.

The name and file location will be different for each game, so try locating it or check the official website for the file’s path.

Once you are in, there will be two lines that mention the resolution (will likely have x and y mentioned). Change it to the desired value (within the monitor’s range), press Ctrl + S to save the changes, and launch the game. Things should now work out.

4. Update the driver

  1. Press Windows + X to open the Power User menu, and choose Device Manager.device manager
  2. Now, expand the Display adapters category, right-click on the graphics adapter, and choose Update driver.update driver to fix games crash when changing resolution
  3. Select Search automatically for drivers and let Windows install the best one.search automatically for drivers
  4. Similarly, update the other drivers as well if a newer version is available.

Updating the drivers is critical for the effective and error-less functioning of connected devices and eliminates several issues, including if a game crashes when changing the resolution. So, make sure you update all the available ones.

Although you can update the drivers manually, doing such is time-consuming and prone to errors which is why using a dedicated tool that will automatically take care of this is recommended.

These are all the ways you can fix things if a game crashes when changing the resolution. In case none work, the last option is to reinstall the game and the client, if there’s one.

Also, before you leave, check the best settings to optimize gaming performance and get the best experience.

Fix: Can’t Change Gamertag for Xbox Community

Gamertags are alter ego names for players within the Xbox gaming world. Microsoft permits players to change their gamertags if they want to. However, some readers have reported that they can’t change their gamertags.

How can I fix the issues and change my gamertag?

1. Check the payment method

If you’ve changed your gamertag before, you’ll need to select a suitable payment method for the $9.99 charge. Make sure you have a valid payment set up by clicking Payment & billing on your Microsoft account page. Then click + Add a new payment method to set up a valid method.

Payment method options can't change gamertag

If a credit or debit card is your chosen payment method, check your card details. It might be the case that your card has reached its expiration date. If so, you’ll need to add a new replacement card to your Microsoft account.

2. Change your gamertag via Xbox console

  1. Turn the console On, and press the Guide control pad button.
  2. Select your profile picture at the top left, and press A on the control pad.
  3. Next, select the My profile option.
  4. Then select the Customize Profile menu option and choose the box that includes your gamertag.
  5. Enter a new gamertag with the on-screen keyboard.
    Gamertag box can't change gamertag
  6. Press the Change gamertag button.

How come I can’t change my gamertag?

Players might see a few error messages when trying to change their gamertags. These are some of the more common gamertag errors:

  • Error: check username and try again
  • An unexpected error occurred. Please try again later
  • Error 80154303
  • This gamertag isn’t allowed. Try a different one.

Do any of the above gamertag errors sound familiar? If so, something might be wrong with the new gamertag you’re entering. For example, the tag might include inappropriate content, not meet the formatting requirements, or be unique (already taken).

There are also situations when the gamertag changes by itself for the same reasons as the ones above.

Microsoft allows players to change their gamertags without charging only once. After that, however, the Big M charges players $9.99 to change gamertags. Therefore, payment (billing) issues can also sometimes stop players from changing their gamertags.

Aside from that, general Microsoft service outage issues can also occasionally arise. Players can’t change their gamertags because of such issues.

Additional solutions:

  • Check if there are any Microsoft and Xbox service outages. Open the Xbox status page in a browser and look for any major or limited outage symbols for services on that page. If you find those, just check back in a few minutes to see if the problem was solved.
  • If you see error code 80154303 when trying to change your gamertag, make sure that your gamertag is not taken already. Choose a different gamertag.
  • Also, make sure you respect the formatting. Gamertags cannot be any longer than 12 characters, including spaces, or start with numbers.
  • To rule out any potential browser issues, try changing your gamertag on the Xbox website in a different browser. Opera is a great alternative to Chrome, Edge, and Firefox with tons of unique features, such as a built-in VPN, Opera Flow, a sidebar player, a tab search tool, and much more, so you could give it a try.
  • Don’t include inappropriate content in your gamertag. If you see a This gamertag isn’t allowed message, then it has probably been rejected for inappropriate content.

As the Xbox Live service is available in many regions, it’s not always entirely obvious what inappropriate content amounts to.

If you still can’t change your tag with the above fixes, contact Microsoft’s support service for Xbox. To do that, click the Contact us button on the How to change your Xbox gamertag page. Then select Account & profile and I want to change my gamertag options.

We also have a guide on how to change Xbox name on mobile, so you might want to check it for additional information.

The agents on Microsoft’s support forum might also be able to help. Click the Ask a Question button on the Xbox section of the Microsoft forum to add a post there. Describe the gamertag issue in your forum post, and an agent will then reply soon after.

Overall, it’s relatively straightforward to fix most issues that arise from changing gamertags. In most cases, players usually need to choose different tags or modify their chosen ones slightly to resolve such issues.

Conan Exiles Settings are Not Saving? Use These 4 Solutions

Conan Exiles is a multiplayer survival game with numerous graphical, server, audio, and gameplay settings players can configure. However, several users reported that Conan Exiles is not saving settings.

The problem has been there for quite a while, but most users managed to fix things in no time. So, let’s find out why Conan Exiles settings are not saving and the solutions that work.

Why are Conan Exiles settings not saving?

Here are the primary reasons Conan Exiles settings are not saving:

  • Bug in the game – For most users, it was a bug in the game that triggered the error. The developers acknowledged the same, and a patch is to be released.
  • Issues with permissions – In some cases, it was misconfigured permissions behind Conan Exiles settings not saving. This is when the game doesn’t have access to the relevant files, and, as a result, the changes don’t reflect.
  • Problems with the game files – The issue can also arise due to problems with the game files, and repairing it should do the trick.
  • Not meeting the game requirements – If your PC doesn’t meet the system requirements for Conan Exiles, issues like this might happen.

What can I do if Conan Exiles settings are not saving?

Before we head to slightly trickier solutions, try these quick ones:

If these don’t work, head to the solutions listed next.

1. Update the game

Since the devs have acknowledged the bug, a patch for it is expected in future updates. So, keep checking for updates in Steam, and install each that shows up.

If installing the updates doesn’t fix things, and Conan Exiles settings are still not saving, head to the next method.

2. Save network setting with a workaround

If the Conan Exiles server settings are not saving and they keep reverting to default, make the desired changes, head to the Gameplay tab, change the Nudity settings to anything else, and then go back to the previous value.

Once done, you can now save the new server settings, and these should apply effectively. Remember, this is just a workaround shared by a user, which did the trick for others but might not work in every case. In case it doesn’t help you, head to the next solution.

3. Modify the attributes for Conan Exiles’ installation folder

  1. Press Windows + E to open File Explorer, paste the following path in the address bar, and hit Enter:C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\path
  2. Right-click the Conan Exiles folder to select Properties.properties
  3. Now, uncheck the Read-only option, and click Apply to save the changes.disable to fix conan exiles settings not saving
  4. Next, select Apply changes to this folder, subfolders and files, and then click OK.save changes
  5. Again, click OK in the Properties window.

If it was the Read-only folder attributes that triggered problems responsible for Conan Exiles settings not saving, this should do.

4. Delete the modlist.txt file

When nothing works, and you are facing issues with nudity settings and other similar ones, a quick trick is to delete the modlist.txt file. It can be found in the following location:C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam>steamapps>common>Conan Exiles> ConanSandbox>Mods>modlist.txt

After you have deleted it, restart the game, and the new settings should apply. A user also reported configuring its attribute to Read-only, the opposite of what we did in the last solution.

By the time you reach this part, you will have realized that there’s no single solution that works for everyone. So, try all our recommendations, and one of these should do it.

And if you are done with Conan Exiles, check the most reviewed Steam games and play these today!

Tell us which fix worked, and share any other solutions you may know in the comments section.

How Long Can You Use Windows 10 Without Activation?

Microsoft launched Windows 10 in 2015 with a one-year free upgrade offer for Win 7 users. But now, you need to pay to activate Windows 10 from the start.

So, some users might assume that they can no longer freely upgrade from previous Windows platforms to Windows 10.

However, users can freely download the Windows 10 disc image (ISO) file from Microsoft’s website with the media creation utility. Users can upgrade to Win 10 with that file.

During the Win 10 installation, users will be asked to enter a product key. Then they can click I don’t have a product key to install the OS without a product key.

Users will have then upgraded to an unactivated Windows 10. The unactivated version comes with some relatively minor restrictions. For example, users can’t change desktop wallpapers or themes within the unactivated Windows 10; and some of the platform’s apps will not work.

Most users have no idea that they can still upgrade to Windows 10 free of charge. Learn how to do that from this excellent guide.

Do you need to activate Windows 10?

You can download and install Windows 10 without having an activation key. In fact, you can use the OS forever without having to activate it.

However, you need to activate it to get the best value from it and enjoy its full features.

How long can I run Windows 10 without activation?

Some users might then wonder how long they can continue to run Windows 10 without activating the OS with a product key.

Users can utilize an unactivated Windows 10 without any restrictions for one month after installing it. However, that only means the user restrictions come into effect after one month.

Thereafter, users will see some Activate Windows now notifications. Windows will send out regular notifications requesting that users activate an unactivated Windows 10.

Furthermore, the Activation tab in Settings will include a notification requesting that users activate the OS with a product key. Their users can click Change product key to activate Windows 10 or change the product key with another one.

However, users can leave Windows 10 unactivated. In fact, users can continue to utilize the unactivated Win 10 with the few restrictions it has. Thus, Windows 10 can run indefinitely without activation.

So, users can utilize the unactivated platform for as long as they wish. Note, however, that Microsoft’s retail agreement only authorizes users to utilize Windows 10 with a valid product key.

What happens if you don’t activate Windows 10 after 30 days?

Windows 10 has a trial period of 30 days for which you can use the OS without a product key. During this period, you will have access to all its features and get a feel of what you will get in the full package.

After that trial period, you will still be able to use Windows 10 but now with restrictions. Some features and customizations will not be available to you until you activate the OS.

What happens I use Windows 10 without a product key?

Using Windows 10 without a product key is not such a big deal. You will still be able to use most of the features with the exception of few advanced ones and customizations.

Also, a permanent watermark will be displayed in bottom right corner of your screen to indicate that the OS is not activated.

Disadvantages of not activating Windows 10

Below are are some of the disadvantages of using an unactivated version of Windows 10

  • Frequent notifications to activate the OS
  • A permanent Windows not activated watermark in the bottom right corner of your screen
  • Limited security patches
  • Inability to customize and personalize your display

How many times can you activate Windows 10?

You only need to activate a Windows 10 PC once. However, if you want to reinstall Windows 10 for some reason, you will need to provide the activation key again.

Also, it should be noted that you have the liberty to use an activation key on more than one PC. But, you can’t use it simultaneously.

More and more Windows 7 users are upgrading to Windows 10 as Microsoft stopped supporting Windows 7 in 2020.

Some are probably purchasing the OS from Amazon or Microsoft, but remember that you can also use Windows 10 without a product key.

Instead, users can freely download the Windows 10 ISO to upgrade to a slightly restricted Win 10 without needing a product key.

But if you have an activation key from an older OS, check our guide on how activate Windows 10 with a Windows 7 or 8 key.

Unable to Connect to World with Minecraft Crossplay

Minecraft is a world-building game that millions of players across the planet play online together. However, multiplayer crossplay issues arise for some Minecraft players. The Unable to connect to world error is one such issue that sometimes arises when some players try to connect with worlds.

What exactly is Minecraft crossplay?

Minecraft crossplay is a feature that enables cross-platform multiplayer gaming for Minecraft. Crossplay means Windows players can play multiplayer Minecraft games with console and mobile device players. These are the Minecraft Bedrock game editions with crossplay compatibility:

  • Minecraft for Windows 10
  • Minecraft for Mobile Devices
  • Minecraft for Xbox
  • Minecraft for Nintendo Switch
  • Minecraft for PlayStation

With those Bedrock editions, Minecraft’s multiplayer crossplay extends across many gaming platforms. You can play crossplay multiplayer Minecraft games with Windows 10 PCs, PlayStation 4 & 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series, Switch, Android, and iOS gaming platforms.

We have an excellent guide on how to play Minecraft cross-platform that may help you with that.

However, crossplay doesn’t extend to older Windows platforms and other consoles. Minecraft: Java Edition doesn’t support crossplay compatibility for older Windows platforms. Nor is crossplay applicable for PlayStation 3, Wii U, Vita, 3DS, and Xbox 360 players.

What causes this Unable to connect to world Minecraft error?

There are a few reasons why this error occurs, and we will outline the most important of those:

  • Incorrect permission settings – When multiplayer permissions are disabled within required accounts, players can’t connect to Minecraft worlds.
  • Not connected to the same hotspot – If you’re playing Minecraft with connected devices on the same Microsoft account, make sure you also connect the devices to the same hotspot.
  • Antiviruses are blocking the connection – Firewalls can block Minecraft from connecting with the Bedrock server. Third-party antiviruses can sometimes wrongly flag reputable software like Minecraft as malware or at least block certain features.
  • Incorrect home network configurations – Some router configuration settings can restrict online multiplayer for Minecraft and other games. Therefore, changing certain router settings can also fix the Unable to connect to world error.

Now that we know why this error occurs, let’s proceed with the solutions to fix the problem.

How can I fix the Unable to connect to world error?

1. Run the CheckNetIsolation PowerShell command

  1. Click the Start button, type the keyword powershell within the text box and click the Run as administrator option for the Window PowerShell search result.
  2. Type this command and press Enter to run it: CheckNetIsolation LoopbackExempt -a -n="Microsoft.MinecraftUWP_8wekyb3d8bbwe"

CheckNetIsolation.exe is a diagnostic tool in Windows that tests and troubleshoots a Windows Store app that needs network capabilities.

In other words, if Minecraft has any trouble connecting to the Internet, this tool will identify and fix it.

2. Select the join multiplayer games Xbox account settings

  1. Sign in to your Xbox account on a browser.
  2. Select the Xbox One/Windows 10 Online Safety tab.
  3. Make sure the You can join multiplayer games option is enabled. If not, select the Allow option for it.
  4. Select the Allow radio buttons for all the other options on the Xbox One/Windows 10 Online Safety as well.
  5. Press the Submit button.

Also, make sure the Multiplayer Game option is enabled for the Minecraft world you can’t connect to. To do so, click the edit (pencil) button for a world on Minecraft’s World tab. Then toggle the Multiplayer Game option to On if it’s disabled.

3. Update Windows 10 and Minecraft to the latest versions

3.1 Update Windows 10

  1. Open Settings with the Windows key + I keyboard shortcut.
  2. Click Update & Security to open the tab shown directly below.
  3. If a feature update is available, you might see a Download and install option for it in Settings. Click the Download and install option for an available build update if you can.
  4. Press the Check for updates button if you can’t click a Download and install feature update option. Select to install any available Windows 10 updates.

3.2 Update Minecraft

  1. Click the Start button and select the Microsoft Store shortcut.
  2. Then click the Account button (your picture) at the top right corner and select App settings.
  3. Now, make sure that the App updates function is On.

If the App updates option is enabled, Minecraft will be updated automatically.

4. Update your PC’s network device driver

  1. Right-click the Start button to select Device Manager on the Win + X menu.
  2. Next, double-click the Network adapters category.
  3. Right-click your PC’s network adapter device and select Update driver.
  4. Click Search automatically for drivers within the Update Drivers window that opens. Thereafter, Windows might update your PC’s driver.

The Update Drivers utility in Windows isn’t always entirely reliable for updating drivers. If that utility doesn’t find and install a new driver, consider trying a third-party driver updater utility like Outbyte Driver Updater.

Outbyte Driver Updater will scan your PC, list devices with outdated drivers, and enable you to update their drivers.

  1. Click the Start button, type cmd in the search box, and click on Run as administrator to launch Command Prompt.
  2. Type this command in the prompt’s window and press Enter: ipconfig
ipconfig unable to connect to world minecraft crossplay
  3. Look for the Default Gateway (IP address) number like 192.168.0.1. Note down that IP address number.
  4. Now type your PC’s IP address number in a browser’s URL bar, and press the Enter key. A router firmware login page should open in your browser.
  5. Enter the required login details for your router’s Settings page. If you’re not sure what to enter, select your router’s manufacturer on the Router passwords website and click Find Password.
  6. Then look for a UPnP setting in your router’s firmware options, which might be on an Advanced or Advanced Setup.
  7. Turn on the UPnP setting if it’s disabled.
  8. Make sure you save the new settings by selecting an Apply or Save option.

6. Turn off Windows Defender Firewall

  1. Click the Start icon, type firewall in the search box, and click Windows Defender Firewall to open that Control Panel applet.
  2. Next, click Turn Windows Defender Firewall on or off to bring up Customize Settings.
  3. Select both the Turn off Windows Defender Firewall options there.
  4. Press the OK option to save the settings.
  5. Then try connecting to a Minecraft world with the firewall disabled.

If this solution resolves the issue, the firewall was blocking Minecraft’s server. Click Allow an app or feature through Windows Defender Firewall and select all the bedrock_server checkboxes to allow Minecraft through WDF. Then you can turn the firewall back on.

Also, try disabling any third-party antivirus utility installed on your desktop or laptop before launching Minecraft. To do so, right-click your antivirus utility’s system tray icon to select a turn off or disable shield option of some kind. Choose to turn off the shield for a few hours if you can.

It’s only advised to temporarily disable your antivirus utility. Remember to turn it back on after you’ve finished playing Minecraft. Alternatively, consider adding Minecraft to your antivirus utility’s exclusion list.

7. Allow local network access for Minecraft (iOS fix)

To fix the Unable to connect to world error for Minecraft for Mobile on iOS devices, tap Settings on your tablet or phone. Then tap the Privacy and Local Network to view a list of apps that have requested permission to find local area network devices.

Within the Local Network menu, look for Minecraft and enable its access. This worked for a lot of our readers so try it out.

The Minecraft Help Center page includes the contact form players can fill out. Input all the required details for your Minecraft game issue in that form. Then click the Submit button to send.

Minecraft’s support forum also helps players fix issues with that game. You can sign in to that forum with a Microsoft or Google account. Then click the Minecraft (Bedrock) Support section to add a post about the Unable to connect to World error there.

The resolutions above are some of the more widely confirmed fixes for the Unable to connect to world crossplay error. So, those potential fixes will probably be enough to kick-start crossplay multiplayer Minecraft games for most players.

High CPU Usage on Dropbox: How to Permanently Fix It

Dropbox is a cloud-based file hosting platform that allows you to store and share files, collaborate on projects, etc. Lately, many users report Dropbox’s high CPU usage causing their PCs to be slow and unstable.

Also, you can experience Dropbox frequently crashing on your computer.

Why is Dropbox taking up so much CPU?

Dropbox is a high-process platform because it takes a lot of resources and time f to load its files, sync and update them, and share them. Also, it undergoes a self-monitoring process that helps it check for version updates. So, many activities and requests on Dropbox may cause high CPU usage.

However, some notable factors may cause Dropbox to take so much CPU. Some are:

  • Dropbox syncing process – When the files that Dropbox is syncing are large and consume a lot of space, it can result in high CPU usage. Also, Dropbox syncing many files simultaneously can cause it to use a lot of CPU.
  • Interference from other apps – Dropbox may be interrupted by the activities of other apps on your PC, such as backup programs, antivirus software, and others. They can cause problems with Dropbox downloading files and sync.
  • Size and number of files stored on Dropbox – Having so many files in your Dropbox folder can cause it to use lots of CPU on your computer. So, the higher the number of files in the folder, the higher the system resources needed to take them.
  • Symlink issues – The presence of Symlink and its activities on Dropbox can cause problems. If the Dropbox app isn’t able to access files linked to the Symlink shortcut, it can run into difficulties, resulting in Dropbox causing 100% disk usage.

These causes may vary in different PCs. Nonetheless, you can fix them by troubleshooting Dropbox and your PC.

How do I fix the high CPU usage on Dropbox?

Go through these preliminary checks:

  • Close unnecessary apps on your computer.
  • Restart Windows in Safe Mode and check if Dropbox still uses more CPU.

If the problem persists, go ahead with the fixes below.

1. Use Selective Sync to choose folders to store on your hard drive

  1. Click the Dropbox icon on your desktop to launch it.
  2. Tap on the profile picture icon in the top-right corner and click on Preferences.
  3. Click the Sync tab, go to Selective Sync, then click Select folders.
  4. Check the box for folders to be saved on your hard drive, then uncheck the box for the folders you’d like removed.
  5. Click the Update button.

Selective sync lets you select the folders to store on your computer’s hard drive among the folders stored in your Dropbox account. Read about how to use Selective sync on Dropbox for more information.

2. Disable background apps

  1. Press the Windows + I key to open Windows Settings.
  2. Select Apps and click on Installed apps.
  3. Select an app, click the three dots, and choose Advanced options.
  4. Then tap the drop-down button for Background app permissions and click on Never.

Repeat the same process for all apps you want to restrict background permissions. Check our article for other methods to turn off background apps in Windows 11 if you have issues using the steps above.

3. Reinstall the Dropbox app

  1. Left-click the Start button, type Control Panel, and then press OK to open it.
  2. Click on Programs and Features.
  3. Find Dropbox, right-click on it, and then select Uninstall from the drop-down.
  4. Follow the onscreen prompts to complete the uninstallation.
  5. Download Dropbox and install it on your PC, then sign in to Dropbox.
  6. Restart your PC and check if high CPU usage persists in Dropbox.

It will fix corrupt installation files and other issues that can cause the issue. You can check our guide on what to do if Dropbox fails to uninstall on Windows 11.

4. Add Dropbox as an exception in Firewall settings

  1. Left-click the Start button, type firewall, and open Windows Defender Firewall.
  2. Go to Allow an app or feature through Windows Defender Firewall.
  3. Scroll down and select Dropbox from the list of apps. Check the boxes for both Private and Public.

If you’ve set your mind on Facebook live gaming, then you will require some additional hardware, streaming software a computer to act as the middleman. In this guide, we will explore the setup you will need, so simply follow the steps, and you’ll be good to go.

Do you need a capture card to stream on Facebook?

If you’re planning to livestream Xbox One on Facebook, you need a capture card and a PC that will act as a middleman and stream the output from your capture card.

How can I livestream Xbox One on Facebook?

To achieve that smooth, unified experience for your viewers, you will want to ensure you have the right tools. These include:

  • You will need a strong Internet connection. To give you an idea, you should aim for at least 15 to 20 MB/s download speed, and 6 MB/s upload speed.
  • Your PC should be a decent i5, powered by a GTX 1050 Ti, with 8GB of RAM since most of the heavy lifting will be carried by your console.
  • A good capture card for better picture quality and overall reliability. An option you might consider is Elgato. If you don’t want to invest heavily in this, there are also cheaper alternatives out there.
  • And a third-party app that can record and transmit to Facebook live. OBS is a choice for many, so we’ll use it for this guide.

That’s all in terms of hardware and software. To stream from Xbox to Facebook, we will need to connect all of them for that unified streaming experience. Now it’s time to create that link to Facebook live.

1. Create a Facebook Creator page

  1. Access Facebook’s Gaming page creator.
  2. Type in your page name, select the category as Gaming video creator and click on Continue.

Later, as your stream progresses, you might consider making some adjustments. But for now, it’s essential to ensure that your streaming environment is up and running.

2. Connect your hardware and software components

  1. Download and Install the software of your capture card of choice on your PC (in this case Elgato).
  2. Install your broadcasting software, such as OBS or Wirecast.
  3. Connect the capture card to your Xbox via an HDMI cable.
  4. Use a second HDMI cable and connect the capture card to your monitor or TV. This will ensure that the console will send a video signal directly to your monitor.

You should see the image directly on your monitor. The only thing that remains is to configure our streaming software so that it records the action on the monitor.

Now that you have all the necessary hardware and software, you need a bit more configuration to livestream Xbox One on Facebook.

3. Get your Facebook streaming key

  1. Go to Live Producer Facebook page.

  6. Go to Settings and navigate to Video. Set the resolution to 1280×720.
  7. Go to Stream and set Service to Facebook Live and paste the Stream key that you got from the previous section.

Create a scene

  1. In OBS, right-click the Scenes box and click the plus icon.

  3. If needed, create multiple scenes.

Add a gaming source

  1. Select the scene in OBS.
  2. In the Sources panel click the plus icon.
  3. Select the your capture card stream/window.

After doing that, test if everything works, and you should be able to livestream Xbox One on Facebook.

Is streaming to Facebook worth it?

The first reason is the most obvious one, audience reach. Facebook is an immensely popular app, registering approximately 2.8 billion monthly users.

What is worth noting is that the vast majority of those people use Facebook daily. Regarding exposure, there may not be a better platform to stream on.

Facebook daily usage statistics
Statistics provided by Statista

That statistic alone can be enough if you are thinking about monetization. Video consumption is at an all-time high, streaming making no exception.

In 2020 Facebook Live was the most popular streaming service for concerts, sports games, and press events. Given the fact that the majority of users are between the 18 to 34 age range, it’s safe to assume that Gaming will also jump out of proportion.

To conclude, streaming to Facebook has the potential to help your stream get noticed. So, the answer is yes, it’s worth investing in Facebook as a streaming service.

Most likely than not, Facebook will develop its Gaming app for a more streamlined experience. But until then, these are the necessary steps to take to get your stream up and running.

Elsewhere, you can also add Xbox games to Steam if you wish to add a little more variety to the games you play.

That wraps it up for us. We hope that you found this article both helpful and insightful and until later, feel free to leave us a comment on how your streaming process is going!

5 Great Tips to Make your Steam VR Games Run Better

Steam VR is an app from the Steam gaming platform that allows you to play virtual reality games from your computer on various headsets like the Oculus Rift.

As high-tech as virtual reality platforms may be, games in this space do run into some performance issues. This guide will show you different ways to ensure your game run smoothly on Steam VR.

What Steam games can you play in VR?

Before you download any of these games, you should check if your PC can handle them. The Oculus Rift, for example, requires certain system requirements to run.

Steam has a page on its website listing every single one of its virtual reality titles on its platform. Not every game is made equally as some are better than others. Below are a few highlights:

  • Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes: This game involves defusing a bomb in a pretty intense scenario while another player gives you instructions on how to disarm it safely.
  • Raw Data: You have to survive wave after wave of robots coming after you with various weapons at your disposal. An intense shooter; definitely for the hardcore audience.
  • Tilt Brush: If intense gameplay isn’t your style, Tilt Brush allows you to create gorgeous pieces of art in a variety of styles from sketching pens, oil paintings, and watercolor.

How do I get better performance at Steam VR?

There are some solutions you can do pretty quickly, while the ones detailed below require a bit more extra work:

  • Restart both your computer and VR headset. This is the tried and true method of fixing any software. Rebooting should work the majority of the time.
  • Try changing the refresh rate on your VR headset. You can do this by going into the settings menu of your headset and making the adjustments. There isn’t much you can do from the side of Steam VR.
  • Double-check your wires and cables. Perhaps you’re using a faulty cable on your VR headset that’s malfunctioning. Also, make sure you’re using USB3.0 or higher
  • Close any extra windows or apps you have running in the background. Having too many apps open can take up CPU resources or RAM leading to poor-performing VR games.
  • Reinstall Steam VR. It’s possible something went wrong during the installation process

1. Underclock your GPU

  1. Go to the MSI Afterburner website and download the app.
  2. Go to the downloaded file’s location on your computer and double-click it to run the installation wizard.
  3. Check if MSI Afterburner is detecting the graphics card you want to underclock. If it isn’t, click the arrow under the Clock section and choose the correct GPU.
  4. To underclock, drag the knob in Core Clock to a lower quantity. This will slow down the GPU’s clock speed.
  5. Click the checkmark at the bottom to apply the settings.

Underclocking your GPU will reduce the amount of work it has to do to render Steam VR on your headset allowing them to run better. There are other ways to underclock which we recommend learning about.

You can try undervolting, but that comes with a greater performance cost. Undervolting is best used to reduce internal temperatures.

2. Change the computer refresh rate

  1. Open the Settings menu, stay on the System tab, and select Display.
  2. Scroll down and click Advanced display under Related settings.
  3. Expand the menu next to Choose a refresh rate and select a different rate.
  4. If you want choices, click Display adapter properties for Display 1.
  5. Go to the Monitor tab in this new window.
  6. Expand the menu under Screen refresh rate and choose a different quantity.
  7. Click Apply then OK to finish up.

3. Disable GeForce Experience Overlay

  1. Bring up the GeForce Experience app if you have it on your computer and click the cog icon in the upper right corner.
  2. Scroll down to In Game Overlay and click the toggle switch to turn off the feature.

4. Update GPU drivers

  1. On the Windows Search bar, bring up the Device Manager and expand the Display adapters entry.
  2. Right-click the entry and select Update drivers.
  3. Select Search automatically for drivers and the update will instantly be installed. Do the same for other GPUs if you have them on your computer.
  4. Conversely, you can update manually by going to the website of your GPU’s manufacturer (like NVIDIA or AMD) and downloading the drivers from there.
  5. Enter the information NVIDIA is asking you, click Search, and then download the drivers.
  6. Go to the location of the newly downloaded drivers and double-click it to begin the installation process.

5. Defragment your disk drive

  1. Open the File Explorer and go to This PC.
  2. Right-click your main drive, then select Properties in the context menu.
  3. Select the Tools tab and click the Optimize button under Optimize and defragment drive.
  4. Highlight the drive you want to optimize and click the Optimize button. Give your computer time to finish up.
  5. Next, bring up the Settings menu and select Storage in the System tab.
  6. Select Storage Sense.
  7. Click the box next to Keep Windows running smoothly by automatically cleaning up temporary system and app files.
  8. Then toggle the switch under Automatic User content cleanup.
  9. You can set a time for how often Storage Sense will run. It’s recommended you set it to Every Month.

There are multiple ways to clean up your disk drive, so check out Windows Report’s guide on other hard drive cleaning methods.

Why is Steam VR so laggy?

There are multiple reasons why Steam VR (or any game from the platform, for that matter) would lag. It’s possible your browser cache is full, and you’ll need to clear it out.

Or perhaps the game’s settings are too high for your computer. As a result of being unable to handle the workload, Steam VR subsequently runs terribly.

If this is the reason, we recommend lowering the graphical settings, like the resolution, on whatever title you’re playing via Steam VR.

How to add Steam VR to Oculus Library?

In order to connect Steam VR to your Oculus headset, you have to go into your Oculus account’s settings. From there, you allow third-party apps to connect to your Oculus library and install Steam VR immediately. Be aware there have been reports of Steam VR not working right with the Oculus Quest.

To fix this problem, it’s recommended that you first update Steam to see if that works. If not, add an exception to it on Windows Firewall.

Feel free to comment below if you have questions about other Steam games or apps. Also, leave comments about guides you’d like to see information on other gaming software.
